too far?

2013-04-04T20:48:00.001-04:00

Im REALLY over this trend. Also, I like to paste kitty faces in inappropraite places. So here you go.

more kitty collages on the way

2013-04-03T23:32:00.002-04:00

So, you know how normal people can just watch TV? Not me. I need to be doing something while I sit down to watch a specific show. So, tonight, I grabbed an old Kitten Calendar, some prints of vintage photos I have, and "gentleman's" magazines.

I particularly enjoy showing how absurd these lady pictures are, but when I found the wolf with the eyepatch... JACKPOT.

Anyways, expect to see these femme fatales in future collages. They are just so ridiculous and sorta creepy, too.

Collage for Claire

2013-03-31T13:37:00.002-04:00

Collage made with cut outs from mostly magazines, but I also used cut outs from maps, a 70's nature book (tiger and Russian buildings), unsolicited advertising (bottom left yellow bird), the tag on a tea bag, a wedding invitation (brown flower), and a recent birthday card (top left bird), and 2 canceled US postage stamps. I also used paint, glue, and Sharpies.

Still in Progress....

In Progress: critters, bones, and flowers

Im still trying to find my signature style, which is why these paintings might look like they are painted by 2 or more artists.

Lincoln / Doodle Paint

2013-03-02T23:02:00.001-05:00

I'm home sick again today, but at least I have enough energy to paint.

So, I listened to an audiobook called: 1861 by Adam Goodheart,

and I tried to salvage my another one of my Lincoln pieces.

I made the rather large mistake of starting this large painting without having any idea of where I wanted it to go. I have already sanded this down and put a few thin layers of gray on top a failing painting underneath. I'm not totally sure where its going. I just know it needs to go somewhere.

I feel like I spent an awful long time putting in a ton of detail work, and I feel like it barely makes a difference. Oh well. At least its still a mystery and something to discover.

Painting Class

2013-02-20T20:53:00.000-05:00

So, I am taking a few painting classes at Radford Universtity. I feel that the deeper into these class I go- the more I have no idea what I am doing.

Seriously.

Here are 2 works in progress for class- and they are awful.

" One Should Either Wear a Work of Art or Be a Work of Art" ~ Oscar WIlde

While I was finding just the perfect (purr-fect?) cat face for the collage I just finished I couldnt help but start a few more. The pieces below are in progress and probably a ways from finishing.

Vermont Doodles.

2013-01-03T09:04:00.001-05:00

Occasionally I get set on a theme. Seems like today the theme is Vermont.

I am lucky enough to have a life partner from Vermont. So, I gets to spend lots and lots of time in that frozen place. Despite all my best efforts, Vermont has really grown on me, despite its cold weather.

2012 Collages

2013-01-01T21:26:00.000-05:00

When I cant make myself paint, I try to make myself doodle or collage.

2012 Collage Art.

True Story: people are much more likely to buy a $16 dollar collage print than a $500 painting. So, I have put a fair bit of effort into creating collage work this year. All the sales basically fund my supply of painting materials.

Here are most, but not all of my collage work this year.

2012 PAINTING REVIEW

2012-12-31T11:35:00.000-05:00

I gotta say, its always tough to look back on my year of paintings. I always have the feeling that I still havent done the work I wanted to do. Here are several of the 2012 paintings. I couldn't quite find pictures of them all. Most are oil on canvas and then there are the occasional watercolor.
