Amazon founder Jeff Bezos sent an email to online retail behemoth's employees announcing that after 27 Years, he will step down as CEO.

Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, on Tuesday announced that he would step down from his chief executive officer(CEO) position later this year. The online retail major said he will be succeeded as CEO by Andy Jassy, the billionaire's closest lieutenant and the head of Amazon's booming cloud-computing business.

Since its founding in 1995,Bezos has been Amazon's CEO. He managed its growth from an online bookseller into a $1.7 trillion global retail giant. At present, he is the second-richest person in the world, tailing only electric automaker Tesla Inc.'s Elon Musk. Bezos is worth $197 billion, as per the Bloomberg Billionaires index, the highest his net worth has been this year.

Top CEOs congratulated Bezos and Jassy on the coming transition, with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in a tweet.

Alphabet CEO Sunder Pichai conveyed his best wishes to Bezos for Earth fund and Day 1.

Bezos sent the following email announcing the transition to its Employees.

PayPal Holdings Inc will wind down its domestic payments business in India from April 1,the company said in a statements on Friday.

PayPal was a payments option on many Indian apps such as travel and ticketing service like MakeMy Trip, Online film booking app BookMyShow and food delivery app.

San jose, California-based PayPal will instead focus on its cross-border payments business, which means global customers will still be able to pay Indian merchants using the service.

the company said:

"From 1 April 2021,we will focus all our attention on enabling more international sales for Indian businesses, and shift focus away from our domestics products in India."

"This means we will no longer offer domestic payment service within India from 1 April."

India's average mobile download speed is 12.07 Mbps, much lower than the global average of 35.26 Mbps, according to Speedtest Global Index by Ookla for September 2020.

India's surging market for mobile phones and 4G data users has not helped in taking the country up in terms of data speed. The recent Speedtest Global Index by Ookla has ranked India's mobile internet speeds at 131 for mobile internet speeds, much behind its neighbouring nations like South Korea, Sri Lanka, and even Nepal and Pakistan. India's average mobile download speed is 12.07 Mbps, much lower than the global average of 35.26 Mbps, according to the index for September 2020.

The index puts India at the 70th position in terms of fixed broadband speed, a surge of two spots from the last time. Singapore claimed the first spot out of the 175 countries with the fastest fixed broadband speed of 226.60 Mbps.

According to Ookla's Global Index, South Korea ranks number one with an average mobile data speed of 121 Mbps. Neighbouring countries like Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and China have all fared better than India in mobile data speed. The global average of mobile upload speed is 11.22Mbps and average latency is 42ms while India's average upload speed is 4.31 Mbps and latency is 52ms.

The Speedtest Global Index compares internet speed data from around the world on a monthly basis. The data for the index comes from the hundreds of millions of tests taken by real people using Speedtest every month.

Know the India's Stand in 5G

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has sought inputs from telcos and other industry experts on the sale and use of radio frequency spectrum over the next 10 years, including the 5G bands.

What is 5G technology and how is it different?

5G or fifth generation is the latest upgrade in the long-term evolution (LTE) mobile broadband networks. 5G mainly works in 3 bands, namely low, mid and high frequency spectrum — all of which have their own uses as well as limitations.

While the low band spectrum has shown great promise in terms of coverage and speed of internet and data exchange, the maximum speed is limited to 100 Mbps (Megabits per second). This means that while telcos can use and install it for commercial cellphone users who may not have specific demands for very high speed internet, the low band spectrum may not be optimal for specialised needs of the industry.

The mid-band spectrum, on the other hand, offers higher speeds compared to the low band, but has limitations in terms of coverage area and penetration of signals. Telcos and companies, which have taken the lead on 5G, have indicated that this band may be used by industries and specialised factory units for building captive networks that can be moulded into the needs of that particular industry.

The high-band spectrum offers the highest speed of all the three bands, but has extremely limited coverage and signal penetration strength. Internet speeds in the high-band spectrum of 5G has been tested to be as high as 20 Gbps (giga bits per second), while, in most cases, the maximum internet data speed in 4G has been recorded at 1 Gbps.

Where does India stand in the 5G technology race?

On par with the global players, India had, in 2018, planned to start 5G services as soon as possible, with an aim to capitalise on the better network speeds and strength that the technology promised.

All the three private telecom players, Reliance Jio Infocomm, Bharti Airtel and Vi, have been urging the DoT to lay out a clear road map of spectrum allocation and 5G frequency bands, so that they would be able to plan the roll out of their services accordingly. One big hurdle, however, is the lack of flow of cash and adequate capital with at least two of the three players, namely Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea.

On the other hand, Reliance Jio plans to launch an indigenously built 5G network for the country as early as the second half of this year. The company is said to have a complete end-to-end 5G solution prepared by the company itself that is ready for deployment once the networks are in place. This solution can also be deployed by other telecom operators as a complete managed service.

What is the global progress on 5G?

More than governments, global telecom companies have started building 5G networks and rolling it out to their customers on a trial basis. In countries like the US, companies such as AT&T, T-mobile, and Verizon have taken the lead when it comes to rolling out commercial 5G for their users.

While some such as AT&T had started testing and deploying the technology as early as 2018, other companies such as Verizon have followed suit, expanding their 5G ultra-wide broadband services to as many as 60 cities by the end of 2020. In other countries such as China, some of the telcos such as China Unicom had started 5G trials as early as 2018, and have since rolled out the commercial services for users.

South Korean company Samsung, which had started researching on 5G technology way back in 2011, has, on the other hand, taken the lead when it comes to building the hardware for 5G networks for several companies.

Will I need a new phone to use 5G?

Yes. Smartphone makers like Samsung and Motorola are already rolling out 5G-compatible phones, and Apple is expected to follow suit soon. You can still use your current smartphone on 4G networks until you are ready to upgrade.

Where can I use 5G today?

The four major wireless carriers are introducing 5G coverage in dozens of cities in 2019 and 2020, including Atlanta, Denver and Washington. 5G coverage within cities may be limited at first, however, with only certain neighborhoods getting access.

Who else will benefit from 5G?

The technology could revolutionize businesses from agriculture to manufacturing. Factory owners could use it to control their robots. Farmers could use it to keep tabs on autonomous smart tractors. Carmakers see it as a key technology for self-driving cars, helping such vehicles “talk” to one another about road conditions, hazards and more. And like other groundbreaking technologies before it, 5G promises to unleash a wave of innovative new startups and services we can’t foresee.

Are there any downsides to 5G?

Privacy advocates worry that 5G could make it easier for law enforcement and others to track a person’s whereabouts with pinpoint precision as their phone connects to multiple cells. They also have concerns about its potential to greatly improve facial-recognition software. However, conspiracy theories circulating online claiming that 5G signals have been linked to cancer have no basis in science.

What is Programmable Logic Controller(PLCs)?

PLC stands for “Programmable Logic Controller”. A PLC is a computer specially designed to operate reliably under harsh industrial environments – such as extreme temperatures, wet, dry, and/or dusty conditions. PLCs are used to automate industrial processes such as a manufacturing plant’s assembly line, an ore processing plant, or a wastewater treatment plant.

PLCs share many features of the personal computer you have at home. They both have a power supply, a CPU (Central Processing Unit), inputs and outputs (I/O), memory, and operating software (although it’s a different operating software).

The biggest differences are that a PLC can perform discrete and continuous functions that a PC cannot do, and a PLC is much better suited to rough industrial environments. A PLC can be thought of as a ‘ruggedized’ digital computer that manages the electromechanical processes of an industrial environment.

PLCs play a crucial role in the field of automation, using forming part of a larger SCADA system. A PLC can be programmed according to the operational requirement of the process. In the manufacturing industry, there will be a need for reprogramming due to the change in the nature of production. To overcome this difficulty, PLC-based control system were introduced. We’ll first discuss PLC basics before looking at various applications of PLCs.

PLC Basics and History

PLCs were invented by Dick Morley in 1964. Since then PLC has revolutionized the industrial and manufacturing sectors. There is a wide range of PLC functions like timing, counting, calculating, comparing, and processing various analog signals.

The main advantage of PLC over a “hard-wired” control system is that you can go back and change a PLC after you’ve programmed it, at little cost (just the cost of the programmer’s time). In a hard-wired control system, you’re essentially having to rip out wires and start from scratch (which is more expensive and takes longer).

PLC Block Diagram

Programmable Logic Controllers continuously monitors the input values from various input sensing devices (e.g. accelerometer, weight scale, hardwired signals, etc.) and produces corresponding output depending on the nature of production and industry. A typical block diagram of PLC consists of five parts namely:

Rack or chassis
Power Supply Module
Central Processing Unit (CPU)
Input & Output Module
Communication Interface Module

Rack or Chassis

In all PLC systems, the PLC rack or chassis forms the most important module and acts as a backbone to the system. PLCs are available in different shapes and sizes. When more complex control systems are involved, it requires larger PLC racks.

Small-sized PLC is equipped with a fixed I/O pin configuration. So, they have gone for modular type rack PLC, which accepts different types of I/O modules with sliding and fit in concept. All I/O modules will be residing inside this rack/chassis.

Power Supply Module

This module is used to provide the required power to the whole PLC system. It converts the available AC power to DC power which is required by the CPU and I/O module. PLC generally works on a 24V DC supply. Few PLC uses an isolated power supply.

CPU Module and Memory

CPU module has a central processor, ROM & RAM memory. ROM memory includes an operating system, drivers, and application programs. RAM memory is used to store programs and data. CPU is the brain of PLC with an octal or hexagonal microprocessor.

What is Input Module?

The module which interacts with the input signal is called as Input Module. It is required to connect input devices like different types of switches.

What is the Output Module?

The module which interacts with the output signal is called as Output Module. The output module is required to connect output devices like electric applications.

The input device provides a signal to an input module. This input module is connected with the CPU for the initial automated processes. CPU processes all the input data.

After processing by CPU, it gives output data to the output module. The output module provides a signal to the output device. The singles can be anything like activating or deactivating output devices.

Types of PLCs

The two main types of PLC are fixed / compact PLC and modular PLC.

Compact PLC

Within a single case, there would be many modules. It has a fixed number of I/O modules and external I/O cards. So, it does not have the capability to expand the modules. Every input and output would be decided by the manufacturer.

Modular PLC

This type of PLC permits multiple expansion through “modules”, hence referred to as Modular PLC. I/O components can be increased. It is easier to use because each component is independent of each other.

PLC are divided into three types based on output namely Relay output, Transistor output, and Triac Output PLC. The relay output type is best suited for both AC and DC output devices. Transistor output type PLC uses switching operations and used inside microprocessors.

According to the physical size, a PLC is divided into Mini, Micro, and Nano PLC.

When India imposed a nationwide lockdown a week ago, it was designed to stop the imminent spread of the novel coronavirus.

But, the India who consist of 1.3 billion population is also suffering from an another health issue is pollution before the coronavirus comes.

The world's largest lockdown means all the factorys, markets, shops are closed and most transportation suspended and also a construction work as india asks for people to stay at home and maintain a social distancing.

A data shows that main cities a recording a much lower levels of harmful microscopic particulate matter known as a PM 2.5 and of nitrogen dioxide, which is released from vehicles and power plant.

PM 2.5 is considered dangerous as it can lodge deep into the lungs and pass to the other organs and causing a serious health risks.
