Living With Psoriasis

In February of this year, whilst out for valentines day, i noticed a small scaly patch of skin on the edge of my scalp. I thought it was nothing and left it for a few weeks, but when more started showing up on my face and scalp i went to see my gp. She diagnosed me with pityriasis rosea, which usually goes away on its own.

I left it alone until after my holiday, as sun usually helps, but when i got home more lesions were on my arms and neck. After seeing a dermatologist he diagnosed me with gutate psoriasis, which is very small patches of scaly skin covering no more than 3% of the body. He gave me a cream for my face and another for my body and scalp.

I have now been using these creams for 6 weeks and the patches on my face have completely cleared up using the protopic 0.1% cream. The lesions on my body have got better, albeit very slowly, using dovobet. My scalp has gotten much much worse, even though i have been using dovobet and t-gel.

I have now started getting more on my hands and chest, and started using hydrocortisone which is a stronger cortisteroid. The next step will be phototherapy for my body, but there isnt anyway that would work on my scalp unless i shaved it, and i refuse to do that! I have been given some different creams to use on my scalp, so its trial and error really.

Smoking and drinking alcohol make psoriasis worse and i do neither of these things, i exercise every day and i eat very healthily so hopefully this will help. Stress makes it much worse and i have been stressed about the appearance of this, so its a viscous circle. This is why i have decided to write about it, to help me de-stress and vent on here instead of scratching at my head.

I am a very high strung, organised (horrifically) person, and if something goes different that i am not prepared for i get very stressed, and my psoriasis will flare up and i scratch at it all day. I am very introverted and have to have everything planned meticulously, which will never change but i can try to keep myself less stressed, and hopefully writing about my psoriasis will help.

Trip To London + Mac Pro Haul!

So this weekend i made a short trip to London, only for one night! We went to see the Harry Potter studio tour in Watford, which was amazing! I will include a few pictures of it at the end.

Whilst there we had some time to kill so went to SoHo and Covent Garden, as i know there is a Mac Pro store there! It was much smaller than i imagined, it had some permanent products inside but not many, as well as the newest collections. Most of the store was pro, with many body painting products and stuff you would use for theatrical or editorial looks for shoots or runway.

I picked up the "fortified skin enhancer" which, as far as i know is, or was, permanent for some time. I got the colour neutralise. It is meant to eradicate any redness on the skin of which i have a lot, and it really does work great. At first its very yellow but then it softens and leaves your skin with a lovely glow!

I also picked up the high-def chromographic colour pots, only available at pro stores. They are a wide selection of brightly coloured body paint products, but they are a cream. They look like paintpots but are creamier and set much faster. The colours are also much more pigmented, and can be used as liners, bases, body art, body paint, etc. I picked up high-def purple.

That was all i picked up from the Pro store as we only had a little time for shopping, but i had a lot of fun and as promised, here are some harry potter pictures!

Giorgio Armani Spring 2012 Eyes To Kill Intense Eyeshadow in 23: Photos, Review & Swatches

A few weeks ago, Giorgio Armani launched their spring collection in the UK, exclusive to selfridges. This collection came with 3 or 4 new shades of their popular eyes to kill shadow. The shade i picked up was number 23, a very frosty white with multi dimensional shimmer in pink, blue, silver, gold.

I was very surprised upon using the product as i expected it to be like a paint pot, and be very creamy. As if i could use it as a base. But it was more of a compact powder, and this specific shade had lots of chunky glitter but surprisingly no fallout, it held together like it was a cream. It appears this product is the best of both worlds! The long lasting and finish of a cream but it applies and has the pigmentation of a powder.

The multidimensional shimmer is very flattering, especially against matte black eyeliner, it makes the eye really pop. You can also use this under colourful eyeshadows, to make the colours pop. Used under a pink, or blue, it can really decide which way the colours lean towards, for example being cool or warm, pink toned or blue toned etc.

I have found myself using this when i cannot be bothered to do a smokey eye with my winged liner, as this is just one step and looks so good against winged liner. Because its not too much on the eyes, as well, you can do a really dramatic cheek or lip to match.

Pigmentation: Very intense considering there should be fall out from the chunky glitter! I love the icy white look, and didnt expect that much opacity from a powder
Texture: Not at all as expected, its a very creamy powder but it is still a compacted powder. It can become crusty if you try and blend too much or mix different colours within the eye look, but when used alone (and i love this effect) it stays compact and together
Application: I use my 194 concealer brush and a tiny bit of Fix+ and pack it on, rather than sweep or dust. Packing it on means the shimmer stays in place and the colour stays together = less fall out!
Longevity: It lasts very long for a powder product, it lasts just as long as a paint pot and even when worn alone, which cannot be said about some paint pots! It does not crease and doesnt have fall out by the end of the day. These results are taken when worn alone for 6 hours
Final Thoughts: Eye opening! Will have to repurchase in other colours, but i can see other shades being more suited as bases, this is an interesting colour which is why it works alone

Today me and my boyfriend went on a day out / shopping trip to the Cheshire Oaks outlet/retail park. Its a huge outdoor shopping centre with clothing, footwear, cosmetics, food, furniture stores etc with current lines and also past line that you may not be able to get any more, all at a discounted price. Its about 45 minutes away from our town centre of Manchester and its got lots of restaurants as well as bowling, cinema etc so its a lovely day out.

There is a CCO there so i knew i was going to get mac makeup! I bought three mac items, 2 from past LE collections and one pro product, and another Estee Lauder product. While there i went into Michael Kors where they had the new summer line at 50% off so i picked up a paisley print maxi skirt, which i am in love with! They have tonnes of other stores such as Mulberry, Burberry, Pringle, Armani as well as high street like Karen Millen, H&M, M&S, Next, Lipsy and hundreds (seriously) more.

The mac products i picked up were:

Mac & Alice and Olivia Pigment in If It Sparkles

Alice and Olivia is a designer i have heard of and while i knew they collaborated with mac a few seasons ago i never picked anything up. This pigment reminds me of vanilla in the pot but when swatched it has more pink and is very icy, however i wont lie that i only picked it up because my name is Alice and it said alice on the packaging..

Mac Pro Glitter in Crystalized Pink

The mac glitters are a permanent product at Pro stores, but anyone can buy from there if you call up and do a phone order, or if you are lucky enough to have a pro store near you. This is a very very glittery, multi dimensional pink glitter with gold, blue, silver and purple sparkles in. The pink "base" colour doesnt show up as much on bare skin so i reccommend using a pink base, otherwise you just get lots of loose glitter. but that can be very pretty!

Mac 192 Face and Cheek Brush

If i remember correctly this brush came out with the 165 and 226 brushes with the blonde, brunette, redhead collection and maybe as well with some sort of scuplted collection, of which the name leaves me at this moment in time. Its a very flat, thin brush thats not really tapered, it does resemble a larger version of the 194 and smaller than the 190, in effect it is shaped the same. Like a foundation brush. I think it will be great to use with cream foundations as well as cream blushes and highlighters, which is how i plan to use it.

I also picked up an Estee Lauder brush, i wanted the mac fan brush but they were out of stock!

Estee Lauder Fan Brush

I have wanted one for a while now even though i know its not something i would use daily. I would probably use it in winter when i am paler, so when i want to wear dark blushes i can apply then really finely and just get a hint of the colour. The precise tip will also be great for contouring and highlighting specific parts of the face.

The Michael Kors skirt i bought was originally £150 but it got reduced to £70, but 150 is very good to start with considering its a very high end brand and this was the new collection! Im so excited to wear it on my holidays, just not sure what top would go with it!

Mac Hey, Sailor! Suntint in Au Rose: Review and Swatches

The new and limited edition suntints have been released as part of the Hey, Sailor collection by Mac. They are available in three colours. I picked up Au Rose, a coral pink with gold micro shimmer.

They are described as liquid lip balms and have SPF 20. The packaging is very nautical, to fit with the sailor theme of the collection. The tube is large but not overly so, it could fit in a handbag.

The colour is nice but not too opaque, it will give the lips a nice tint as well as protecting them. Its not sticky, which means it doesnt really have much staying power and rubs off easily. It will be something i will happily throw in my purse to take out with me on a sunny day not only to protect my lips but also add some colour, and its so small and compact i wont mind touching it up, as the packaging is rather cute.

Pigmentation: Usual for a lip gloss, there is a level of sheerness to it and the gold in the gloss is very very fine, but adds a multi dimensional effect to the colour. It is a slightly warm toned coral pink but can still look translucent on the lips, depending on your own colouring.
Texture: Very creamy yet not so liquid, it disperses well around the lips but leaves no lines or bleeding. It is not sticky at all, which means it wipes off very easily with a makeup wipe, but also easily when constantly rubbing lips together.
Application: Its a very small tube with a precise applicator but its not very sterile and the tip can get sticky if lip gloss is left on there over time and after a number of uses. I prefer to apply a "blob" with the applicator and then disperse around my lips by rubbing them together.
Longevity: In terms of colour it is very translucent anyway, it gives just a hint of colour to the lips but it isnt sticky and is not long wearing so it dries quickly, needing touch ups after 2 hours or so and at that point there isnt much of the colour left, and just a small amount of micro shimmer.
Final Thoughts: Let down by the lasting effect, but if you need to touch up it is compact enough to travel with in nearly every size handbag or purse.

Yesterday i went into town to take my mind off current situations, and the best way to do that is to shop! I had to fill up on biore nose strips and eyes to kill mascara, and while i was there i picked up one of the new eyes to kill intense eyeshadows from the Spring/Summer collection and an ultra shine lipstick.

The intense eyeshadow i picked up was shade 23, its a very shimmery icy white with flecks of gold, blue, pink and silver glitter. I was expecting the consistency to be more of a paint pot, with a cream like consistency but it more like a very compressed, packed, finely milled powder. I would use this over a creamy base or primer because the glitter can be quite chunky and may have fall out. The fact that it looks almost duo chrome with the blue and pink, means it can make different shades of colours pop depending on the eyeshadow/base.

The lipstick i chose was number 21, a dark yet not fully opaque plum colour with some reddish brown undertones. It is a lipstick from the ultra shine lipstick line, which means the texture is very creamy and moisturizing but the colour payoff is not nearly as opaque as a matte, it is more like the colour payoff of a satin (this is down to the dark colour rather than the finish, lighter colours in this line were much, much more seer) but the feel of a lustre. It has alot of sheen but no shimmer.

The mascara and the nose strips were just re purchases of products that i have used for a while! I will try and get these reviews from the lipstick and the eyeshadow up very soon.

Glossybox April 2012: The Spring Edition!

For the foreseeable future this will be my last glossybox, unfortunately. I cancelled my subscription 2 weeks ago, but was still debited for this month and therefore still received this months box. I am glad i did because i am very happy with it! I will reconsider my subscription, but i will be taking a break for a month or two.

Nevertheless, this month really impressed me, from the box design and the products! The box was a lovely champagne colour and inside the card stated that all the products were organic, and i liked the idea of the theme. The first thing i noticed was at least 2 full size samples which was great! The other 2 samples were a generous size and then there was the mini perfume sample which, in all honesty, i just throw away.

So, lets begin with what i got!

Caudalie SOS Thirst Quenching Serum

Caudalie is a brand i have used before, and very much enjoyed. This claims to be extremely natural and plant based, as i beleive most of their products are. It ensurs skin never lacks moisture and should be applied before your normal moisturizer. I will definitely use this as it says it is designed for dehydrated skin, which i most definitely have. It is a nice size and a easy to use tube, and also smells very refreshing.

INIKA Cosmetics Organic Eyeliner in Black

This is one of the full size (i think) items i got this month. It states it has a rich and creamy consistenct unparalled in the world of natural liners. I do beleive that this lives up to its claims because the consistency is amazing, especially given that it has no artificial chemicals in. I presume what makes UD eyeliners stay put so long is artificial, so the fact that this doesnt smudge even when rubbed under water is amazing, and the colour is totally opaque black in 1 hard or 2 light strokes.

Ayuuri Natural Body Wash

This skincare range is based on fruit, plant and flower extracts to enhance the skins natural beauty. This is also a very large, or full, size product that smells very fresh and has a lovely natural yet spring colour to it. I used this in the shower today and my skin felt soft and supple after using. Im not a huge body wash person, i usually just stick to water and soap, so im trying to get into this habit and hopefully this will help!

Figs and Rouge Lip Balm

This is a brand i have heard of and i recognised the cute and quirky packaging. It claims to be 100% pure, natural and organic, and to naturally hydrate skin and lips. This is a gorgeous product, the packaging really did blow me away and the lip balm seems almost grainy, like an exfoliator. It felt very clean on the skin and my lips felt breathable. I will be adding this to my handbag with my already overflowing stash of lip balms! but this is the cutest, yet!

All in all i am very happy with each and every product i have recieved! I will see what next months box brings and then will reconsider becoming a subscriber again! I hope you all recieved lovely products this month! Enjoy :-) xx

Inglot o2m Nail Enamel in 616 and 604: Review and Swatches

Inglot is very famous for its Nail Enamel, branded the o2M Breathable Nail Enamel. They are famous for both the colour selection and diversity and the high quality. On my recent trip to inglot i spent over the threshold to get me a free gift worth 25% of how much i spent. I spent around $200 which gave me a gift value of $50, so i got 2 nail enamels and 2 eyeshadows.

The colours i got was 616, a pinky coral colour with warm orange undertones, with micro shimmer, and 604, a cool toned baby pastel pink with micro shimmer.

I cannot do bulletpoints saying the overall pigmentation, texture etc because each colour was different. 616 was completely opaque in 1 coat whereas 604 needed 2 coats to be opaque and even then could have done with a third.

As for everything else, the textures were amazing and totally even. It was not too thin that it left streak marks and it was not too thick that it collected towards the end of the nail, it was perfectly in the middle and dried extremely fast.

As for the longwearing, i wore each for 5-6 days and noticed absolutely no chipping with 604, which may be because i had 2 coats, and noticed only slight wear on the tips of the nail with 616. I finished with a top coat each time and they kept their glossy, sheen fnish and were very hard wearing. I use my hands instantly after painting my nails which sometimes causes chips and nicks but i noticed none with this, even after going to the gym and driving.

Overall i am so, so satisfied with these nail polishes, not least because i recieved them for free! I do not notice how they are 'breathable' but my nails are not my own so maybe if someone wore them on their real nails they would notice a lightness about them, and maybe their own nails would not be as affected.

Surrealism has found its way to the forefront of fashion yet again this Fall, with the upcoming Prada Costume Exhibit approaching, as well as designer collaborations with the likes of Salvador Dali, it seemed inevitable. Not since 2012 has it sprung onto the catwalks with such force, a la Victor and Rolk and the famous cut out dress of 2010, now over 2 years ago.

Costume jewelry was given the nod by Alber Elbaz as he worked with artists like Man Ray and Joan Miro, Diane von Furtensburg, Rodarte and Moschino preferred body parts like hands, interlocking and translucent, as well as lips and even the odd moustache adorning a jumper.

No Surreal state would be complete without the mind boggling, seemingly impossible intricate designs and prints from Mary Katrantzou, which would more than likely be more wearable than some of the Giles peices that seem destined to the runway forever, or in some instances the museum!
