Our newest theme release today is Splash!  a fun and colorful theme for WordPress with a color scheme of SO many colors, it’s hard to list them all!  The concept is paint – and LOTS of it, with splatters all over the place and fun design accents to go with it.  Primarily, you’ll find a nice presentation of plenty of white space with accents of blue, purple, red, green and yellow to name just a few.  It’s like someone filled up their paintbrush with every color of the rainbow and splattered it on your screen.

Splash! WordPress Theme by Allure:

I have updated all of the theme documentation, as well as upgrade instructions, which members will find in their Members Area here on the Allure Themes site.   The documentation takes you through how to install the Allure Foundation and Accessory Themes, how to use the Allure Theme Options, help you discover and learn to use each of the 7 widgets packaged within our themes and how to customize areas like your WordPress login screen and create a custom Gravatar for your site, and more!  Be sure to visit your Member’s Area to load up the documentation pages so you know you’re taking full advantage of the features provided within the Allure Foundation.

Here is a quick list of the features available with The Allure Foundation v. 1.2 and ALL FOURTEEN Allure Accessory themes (version 1.1), be sure you download the latest versions of the themes to get these great features on your own site:

1. New Widgets - these new widgets join the other 5 widgets found within our themes (our other widgets include: Email Subscription, Author Profile, Latest Tweets, YouTube and Social Icons)
1. RSS/Twitter Count – easily display your Feedburner subscriber count and your Twitter follower count on your site with this widget.  Custom styling is provided for each of our themes to make sure it coordinates well with each of the theme designs.
2. Flickr Photos – display a collection of your favorite Flickr photos from your Flickr account on your site.  This widget is configurable with several settings you can choose for the display of your photos.

Superfish Menu Navigation – using jQuery and the Superfish.js library, I’ve revamped the menu navigation for each of our themes.  I liked the menus prior to this, but I’m partial to using jQuery/Superfish in navigation because it creates a graceful navigation with great features (such as sub-navigation arrow indicators, animated navigation transition, etc).
3. Browser Identification – new functions have been added to allow the theme to detect your readers browser and adds the browser to the WordPress body class.  If you’re not doing your own theme development, you may not notice or use this feature – but it allows myself, and any developers, to provide easy cross-browser compatibility quickly by taking advantage of the new browser class in the body tag. (ie:  < body class=”home logged-in chrome” > , for someone using the Google Chrome browser)
4. XHTML Closing Tags – added a new function that auto-closes any open XHTML tags within the body of your site.  So often, members come to us for support because the layout of their site is messed up and they cannot figure out why.  9 out of 10 times, it’s because they have an open XHTML tag somewhere in the body of their content (ie: an unclosed < div > tag).  This feature recognizes unclosed XHTML elements and closes them for you!
5. Custom WordPress login screen – it’s easier than ever to customize your WordPress login screen with your own logo for branding.
6. Custom Gravatar – when people comment on your site, but don’t have a Gravatar set up, WordPress gives you a few default Gravatar’s to choose from. Tired of the “Mystery Man”?  Using our Custom Gravatar feature, easily add your own Custom Gravatar – you can brand it to match your site and get rid of the Mystery Man!

All theme demo sites here at Allure have been updated to display the latest version of our themes, and all of the features above are included – - so head over to the Allure Collection to choose a theme to view and check out the latest features.  Members can grab the latest version of The Allure Foundation v 1.2 and the latest versions of our Allure Accessories (each version 1.1) and upgrade the themes on their sites – - full upgrade instructions can be found within the theme documentation in your Member’s Area.

Note to members who have altered or modified any of the Allure themes you are using:  if you’ve made changes to any of the core files (template files or stylesheet) – your changes will be overwritten with this upgrade, so backup your changes first and consider creating your own child theme so you don’t lose your changes during the next upgrade!

Also note to members who are using our Genesis Child Themes (for the Genesis Framework by StudioPress) and/or our Builder Child Themes (for the Builder framework by iThemes) – this upgrade does NOT apply and you can continue using your themes without upgrading.  This upgrade ONLY applies to Members using the Allure Foundation and any of our 14 Allure Accessory themes.

October - We’ve named it “October” because of the amount of pink that you see in the theme. The upcoming month of October is Breast Cancer Awareness month – you can even see pink on the uniforms at professional football games, so you know it’s a big deal. Our Khaki theme will work very well for a woman’s craft, photography or arts web site with its soft and subtle scheme, it really let’s your content shine.  Give it a try for a food or gardening web site, as well – - for the demo site, I’ve used some beautiful photos of flowers and plants that work real well with the color scheme, layout and design.

Khaki has nice treatments to fonts, using two different Google Fonts: “Delius Swash Caps” and “Sunshiney” that give the over all look of theme nice character and presentation. Images got some special treatment, as well, with attention paid to placement, dimension and presentation.

In case you missed it with my Varied Theme release on September 16th, I added a Social Icons widget to the Foundation, which is available with all of our child themes if you upgrade to the latest version of The Allure Foundation (v. 1.0.3).

Social Icons Widget

This widget allows you to easily add icons for your different social media profiles. Have a look at the interface to the left.

It’s simple to use. Like any widget, give it a title and then enter a bit of text in the textbox, if you want to. Then add the full URLs (web address) of your various social media profiles. Then click SAVE.

This widget allows you to add links from the following networks:

  – Facebook
- Google +
- Twitter
- LinkedIn
- Feedburner
- RSS
- Flickr
- Email

Social Sharing with Twitter, Facebook and Google+

The second exciting social feature added on to The Allure Foundation, and subsequent child themes in our collection, is the ability to toggle social sharing on your individual posts.  Without the use of a plugin – add a simple and clean way for your readers to share your content on Facebook, Google+ and/or Twitter.  You activate it in your Dashboard, within your Allure Theme options:

As a matter of fact, if you want to see it in use, you need not look any further than this page you’re looking at.  At the top of this post, near the post title, you’ll notice the social sharing links displayed there.  Go ahead, test it out

As mentioned, the Allure Foundation (v1.0.3 <- changelog) has these upgrades – and all Allure Accessories have been updated, as well.  All you need to do is upgrade your Allure Foundation and whichever Accessory you’re using (mainly CSS updates on these themes for display purposes) by downloading the theme package from your Member’s area.

Daytime is a beautiful, watercolor theme for WordPress done in a feminine color scheme of blues, greys, pinks and white.  Subtle and whimsical design elements include a watercolor paint effect, flowers and supports a fun & beautiful Google font called “Love Ya Like a Sister” in the header, menus, widgets and various headings (H1, H2, etc) throughout the site pages.

Our Daytime theme is well suited for any type of blog, or web site, with it’s feminine color scheme and design elements and would especially work well for an arts and crafts blog, beauty or entertainment blog and even as a blog for a teenaged budding blogger.
