Jumping da Point

Jumpimg the Poimt has become a daily thing for Addison. He and a friend hop on the motor scooters and go jump a couple of times just to cool off.

The boys borrowed a kayak from a neighbor, they were soo excited until they realized how much work it actually took to move and steer in the ocean.

Our Bishop is a pretty famous spear fisher man on the island. We happened to be walking by his house one night and were lucky enough to take home a couple of yummy fish. They were good! I was a little nervous:)

Lil B and chocolate milk

Lil B really really liked chocolate milk! One afternoon we had to leave the house for a while because the pest control was coming to spray. So we decided to go get a treat, he chose chocolate milk, and no, there was not a smaller size. Who knew he was going to chug the entire thing!

Needless to say he no longer is a huge fan of chocolate milk.. Poor guy!

Ander Kai Sharp

Our newest addition arrived on November 8, 2012 at 11:21am.

He has the darkest hair of all the kids and we ALL love him to pieces already!

D making up for the missing the birth. Yep he missed the birth! I wasn't progressing and he hadn't eaten so I shooed him away and sure enough he missed the entire thing.

Claremont

CLAREMONT

Ok! this is the finally the last post of our trip! I knew if I didn't do it while we were on our trip it would take me forever, and it did! It kind of has been a thorn in my side to finish!

We went to back to Claremont for a couple of days as our last

stop on our journey . This was the most anticipated stop of the trip! It was soo good to be back "home". It felt like home! It was so good to see everyone! We swam, ate, and talked the night away.

The spa was apparently the place to be.. We are hoping for some marriages some day between these kids!

Grandma and Grandpa Sharps!

On the second to last stop of the trip we hit Poway to see Aunties, Uncles and Gpa and Gmas. I am a horrible picture taker and for some reason only got a couple pictures all in the pool and none of the Gpa and Gmas!

But I did manage to get one with the funnest Auntie ever! Auntie Katy!

Gpa and gma were sooo nice!

They even heated their spa so it would be warm

We play a game called "cootie"

In this game someone puts a small stick at the bottom of a pool and

then when it floats to the top everyone jumps in and the first to grab it

wins!

everyone sees the stick and jumps to get it

The twist to the game is that once someone grabs the stick they must

bring the stick to a wall of the pool and that is when it gets brutal.

It was soo fun to see all our relatives in Poway! We miss them! Come visit us soon!

Sequoia National Park

After driving for 3 days to arrive at The Grand Sequoia's we made a quick stop in Yosemite. It was so crowded that we stayed for 20 minutes, hiked to Bridalveil Falls and then hoped back into the RV to find an RV park for the night.

Aww "B" is almost as tall as "D"..

We met up with The Nolte's at The Grand Sequoia's which was way less crowded than Yosemite!

"T" felt really sick after we climbed up to the top of a site. So we slowly crept down the stairs. It was a half mile hike down a bunch of stairs, which with a sick lil guy felt like 20 miles. If course I thought of the worst possible scenario. He had a really bad pain in his stomach., every few minutes he had to sit and couldn't stand up straight.

So "D" and John gave him a priesthood blessing then took him back to camp and after a good bathroom break he was fine.. Hehe moms are worry worts!

Love this girl ! So good to catch up and hang, just like old times!

If you look closely you can see that the kids are all smoking sticks.. The ash would fall and burn holes in chairs and pants, not a good thing!

Yellowstone day 2 the hike of near death

Yellowstone day 2
We started out on a quick 6 mile hike round trip.
It was flat the whole way , wonderfully cool weather.
Notice D in the picture above..
He had a lot of energy!

Beautiful day, the kids were happy until....

we came upon some middle aged hikers who said that they were just finishing the 17 mile one way trip on the same trail we were on. They were cruising along, like they had just started.

So D gets it in his mind that he is going to do the 17 mile hike, the two older boys agree and want to do it as well., the lil ones and I decided they are CRAZY and decide to head back to the RV. I kept telling them they weren't prepared, food and water wise for that long of a hike. But no one listens to a naggy mom:) Every hike we go on I actually pack way more water and food than we need so I secretly thought they would be ok. We had plans to meet up at 8pm that night at a town close to the end of the trail if they didn't make it back to the campground by then.

Then they were off. It was 11 am at this time.

After a couple of hours of hiking they see this in the distance, blocking the trail.....

Yep its a huge Bison.. They wait for a while to see if it would move. No its not going anywhere, so they decide to go around it keep their distance so the thing didn't come and charge them!

While keeping there distance they get lost for a good hour and had to go up and over logs.

They finally find the trail again and are off and going. " A" has not had anything to drink at this point. Thinking he wanted to conserve the water they had, he also had no hat on or sunblock.

They came upon the one and only trail marker about 11 miles in, that said the TRAIL CLOSED TURN BACK NOW..At the beginning of the hike we saw NO indication that the trail was closed, and we also met those men at the beginning of the hike who had said they came from that same direction. Being low on water and sunlight at this time they determined it to late to turn and hike the 11 miles back to the beginning of the trail, so they decided it was a better idea to continue to the 6 miles to the end of the trail. "B" came across this skull above and thought nothing of it until later they found out this trail went through a wolf pack territory that was why the trail was closed.

Then they saw this foot print...

And then saw this... D kept saying throughout all our hikes in bear country that if he whistled he was sure a bear it would get scared and leave..Nope, it just looked and looked some more. We tried to buy some bear spray before we left on this hike but we couldn't find any.

The bear was very interested in these hikers. He watched them very closely , so they decided to do what they did before was to go around the bear. Get off the trail and circle around... Yep they got lost again!
Finally finding the trail again by going back to wear they had seen the bear the first time they found the trail but no bear! They said this was scarier then seeing the bear. They knew he was close by but where?

They lost the trail again, they thought they were following the correct trail but it ended up being a bison trail. They saw this moose though, it was not on their trail. Thank heavens!
So they were lost again, this time for a long time! "A" was feeling worse, They were out of water at this point, the last can of water they had was filled with soap for some reason. So they are lost no water and its getting dark. "D" decides to call 911 at this point but couldn't get any service. They said a little prayer and were finally able to get service . Once he was able to contact the rangers, the rangers said they had been looking for them, I guess someone saw them hiking and saw the bear close to them so they called the rangers as well. So the ranger said he would send another ranger to direct them out and a couple minutes later he showed up and saw that "A" was not doing well so they called in a stretcher and 6 more rangers to wheel "A" out.

"A" with his ranger friend Chris. He was fine just dehydrated and exhausted having hiked close to 20 miles with getting lost and all. I on the other hand was freaking out. It was 8pm no one was back at camp. So the lil boys and I drove to our meeting spot, it took 45 mins to get there. No one is at the meeting spot., We start to get really worried that something has happened. So I stop the first ranger I can find and she is radioing to find out whats going on, when I finally get a text from "D" saying where they are. I show up to an ambulance and 10 or more rangers questioning my family. All ended up fine in the end. I know for sure they were being watched out for from above!

Yellowstone day 1

After a really long drive we finally made it to the much anticipated Yellowstone! We headed out on our first hike to Mystic Falls. We hiked the longer route which I think is a must do, it was breathtaking!

At the beginning of the trail we were able to see these colorful boiling pools.

Mystic Falls!

We then drove up a to a cute town where there are Elk just sitting around everywhere and had dinner at a yummy restaurant. We made the kids try horseradish..not their favorite, but it was super funny!

D always says if our kids can find anything in the gift shops with their name on it he would buy it for them, thinking no store has our crazy names on them. Well "A" found a ton of items, including this bumper sticker, and girls lunch box which we made him get. Every once in a while it shows up in his backpack for school. hehe

Some more Elk. This picture was taking while we were have sitting in the RV waiting for the restaurant to open for dinner. The Elk was running towards our open window. WE quickly shut it, scared of what he was planning on doing!

Happy Birthday POPS!

Instead of sending out a Birthday card for just my DAD to see I thought I would write a post for the entire world wide web to see....and it is not because SOMEONE forgot to put his card in the mail

Things I have learned from Dad

1.Collared shirts are required for dinner--and apparently other dressing tips

2. Patience. If you don't get it, you were not there.

3. How to be a deep thinker--this is not lounging on the couch--this is deep thinking. we are not watching a football game--we are reflecting on Plato's allegory of the cave.

4. A deep love for games--and winning. See how he cleverly chooses his opponents? It is the master at work!

5. How to host a party!

6. Most importantly-- If something breaks, blame a kid.

I hope to pass these truths onto future generations of Sharps, and I suppose I can guess where he got these things from

Last Day with the Bodhaines:(

Our first stop that day was Mammoth Caves, which are pretty cool caves, they are kind of short ,I think there are a total of 4 different caves that are known for the bats that live in them.

Then we drove about 20 minutes to a place called Cedar Breaks which give you the chance to stand above 10,000 feet on a cliff edge surrounded by lush forests and flower-covered meadows looking into a desert amphitheater 2,500 feet deep, covered with incredible, multi-colored hoodoos. (yes I copied this from their website:) hehe

For some reason this was the place for piggy back rides...

and shoulder rides..

Lake Powell

Our next stop was Lake Powell, we thought we would stop on play in the water... Which in lori's mind meant renting toys.. The funnest day of the trip! The kids had a blast! Thanks LORI!

She was a crazy boat driver. Her main goal was to throw everyone off the tube. She succeeded most of the time..Except in the picture below. VICTORY! What a stud:)

North Rim Grand Canyon with the Bodhaines!!

North Rim of the Grand Canyon!

Yes someone was being really grumpy.... I bet you can't guess who it was..

The DO's

Meet up with the Bodhaines,even though there craziness scares me to death, they make everything ten times more fun! We LOVE this family! They were so nice to drive all the way from Cali to The North Rim of the Grand Canyon to hang with us for a few days.

DO go to the North Rim its beauty is spectacular. Very green and not very many tourists. We stayed about 40 minutes outside due to the fact that that was the only place that had RV hookups. The drive to North Rim was gorgeous. The park it self once you get inside is probably only worth a day out of your vacation fyi.

The Dont's

Don't go with the Bodhaines to the Grand Canyon!:)! They are crazy! Every time I turned around, I thought for sure they would fall! They are not afraid of heights!. I think they got sick of my nagging voice.. Actually maybe that's why they did it to hear my pleas to back away from the edge:)

Don't plan to meet up with someone in the middle of nowhere where cell service and internet is nowhere to be found. The only pay phone was a mile walk to the phone and a mile back. We got a lot of exercise going to that stinkin phone to make sure we found them. It was of no use in the end. We thought we were staying at the same place, but when midnight rolled around and the Bodhaines were nowhere to be found we realized they were not staying where we were. We tried to call the next morning but no luck they were out of cell service as well. Luckily they have the biggest bluest truck, as we were driving to the Grand Canyon we happened to see their truck at an INN about 25 miles south of where we stayed. So we were able to meet up:)

Zions

Zions was our first stop
on our National Park month long adventure.
We were in awe at how beautiful it was.
Definitely a site to see.

The Bucherts, who have been our friends since we were first married and my brother Jay and his family met us here.
We were so happy my brother surprised us, he was headed home from Lake Powell and decided to stop for a couple of nights.
We were so glad they did, it was so fun to see them!

My brother had a great idea, he said I should do
the do's and don'ts of our travels..
So here's an attempt to make this interesting!

DO's at Zions...

The Narrows.
( a hike in a river between narrow, very high rock walls)
We were kind of worried about how the little kids would do on this hike.
We worried for nothing.
They all loved it.

Below is my sister in law and cute nephew.

A lot of the hike was about shin deep.

Other parts of the hike were over our heads.
If you navigated well you could avoid those parts.

Do's

Hidden canyon hike
which was straight up the side of a mountain/cliff.
It was super hard, well at least it was for a pregnant, altitude challenged woman.
I thought I might die:)
The kids flew up the trail, yes I felt like a wimp.

Towards the top of the mountian/cliff there were chains you had to hold onto so you didn't fall off the side of the cliff to this... below..

"B" is not holding onto the chain!

I am afraid of heights so the entire time, I was the annoying mom freaking out and yelling," hold onto that chain! Get away from the edge, etc etc!"

I'm sure they ONLY survived because I screamed at them the entire time, haha...

( I left this on the DO's because I will do it again I'm sure, even when they are grown men with children of their own.)

This is towards the top of the hike.

"Lil B" did awesome, he really didn't want to go after the first hike but once we got him going he didn't complain once, well maybe he did complain on the way down when we were almost done, but he made it through the worst of it. He was a trooper.

WE finally made it to the Hidden Canyon..

It was pretty darn cool that at the top of this mountain/cliff there was a very quiet beautiful canyon.

The canyon went on for about another mile. The kids and dads went on, while I took a little nap waking up every so often thinking a snake was crawling on me. It sounds terrible but it was really peaceful.

In the canyon the kids were able to rock climb all over the place.

Fun times in Zions!

Don'ts at Zions...

Buy cheap water shoes for 5$ at Walmart,
they do not have enough support on the bottom, you are walking on big rocks the entire time. Feeling every rock was not fun not to mention they were falling apart after the hike
.

Bring anything in your pack that you don't want to get wet.

Leave any little kids with "D" because he forgets they need water,

and you end up with a dehydrated little girl who threw up all over the rv bed in the middle of the night, poor thing!

(we actually are not sure this was why she threw up, its just something to tease "D" about it)

Thanks honey for cleaning it all up and doing the laundry in the middle of the night!

You are the best!

Honestly he does make lil kids forget they are hiking and and turns it into a fun adventure.

Emerald pools, it was a lame hike on a paved path.
The kids were bored. It is a short half mile hike there but with lots of people on the trail it took away from the beauty at least for me it did and the emerald pools aren't very emerald:)

RV trip

D has 5 weeks off from work in the summer, and since we are having another baby, we decided we had better get off island this summer. I still can't believe how blessed we are to have this job. We decided to rent an RV for a month! I was a little bit nervous, 6 people in a small RV for that long sounded like a disaster. Which from this post you might agree, but it actually ended up being a lot of fun!

WE rented from Cruise America. It was so, so. The RV was pretty basic with no awnings and nothing to plug in the back bedroom. Which really wasn't the problem. The problem we had with it, was their customer service when something went wrong.
We weren't expecting anything to go wrong especially not in the first 45 minutes of the drive.

Until.... a lady in another car right next to us told us our tire was flat. So we pulled over put some air in the tire.Then started the RV. It would not start. Dead battery, luckily D watched a video on how to emergency start it. Then we were off.

While driving on the freeway another man waved us down and told us our tire was flat. Not feeling anything inside the car we called the emergency call center for Cruise America to find out what we should do. We were told someone would call us back soon. So we pulled off the next exit as we did the tire had had it and blown. We waited for a call back, finally got one. WE were told that someone would come in 90 minutes to help us.

All was fun and games for the first couple of hours...

We could wait 90 minutes. The AC should start working soon...

The AC still wasn't working 2 hours later in the blistering heat, but T was still smiling. We had to call Cruise America to find out what the hold up was, then wait for a call back which took about an hour. Finally we figured out that they sent the repair guy to the wrong location. :( It would be another 90 minutes...

. Can you see B? He looked like I felt! It was long and hot..

Here's the tire..

Finally 4 hours later a nice man showed up and changed our tire. He had us on our way in 15 minutes. Yippeeeee!!!

We go to start the RV again and the battery that didn't start again. Crud we had to call Cruise America and wait for their call back..

We decided to emergency start it again and drive until we received their call, which was 3 hours later after we had gone and got the battery fixed ourselves...

We were finally on our way to ZIONS!!!

May Day 2012, Laie Elementary School

For those of you like myself who had never heard of a Mayday celebration, I am about to enlighten you:) Here in Laie it is a BIG deal!! The elementary school puts on a big show or should I say production. The kids practice for months and months on their dances.. Parents and teachers work for hours sewing costumes. When it is all said and done I think my kids probably have earned a degree in performing arts. They get to perform on the stage at the Polynesian and Cultural Center.
I was able to help with the Ts 3rd grade performance. Let me tell you, I had no idea what I was getting into, when I said yes. It was so time consuming but it was so worth it when the time to perform finally came.

This was the special VIP ticket I got for helping, the seats weren't very great, oh well..

I won't make you sit through every grades dance, but if you have nothing else to look them up on You Tube, the costumes alone are worth it, but the dances take the cake.. I think the entire show was 3 hours long. First they have to crown the king and queen, their entire court does about 5 dances. I LOVE that performing here is considered a cool thing to do, and that the coolest kids embrace it and do it with pleasure.

Easter

Of course we painted some eggs then we were off to the community egg hunt at Gun Stock Ranch..

The little boys were ready for some fun!

It was really quite the event,a petting zoo and free pony rides.

The Easter Bunny made a grand entrance on his horse at the top of the hill and zigzagged his way down to the kids.

Even when the bunny is on a horse, he does not look any less scary, its almost scarier!

The Easter egg hunt! The area they had to hunt in was huge, probably two acres and there was horse poop everywhere! YUCK! I made sure my kids wore their tennis shoes and didn't eat any of the eggs, but only in Hawaii do you see this...I just kept thinking how dirty this boys feet were getting!

"T" found the silver egg which got you $3.00. Yippeee!!

Living the easy going life on the Island

Living the easy going life wasn't easy to get used to..

Especially for me, now that we have been here for a while I can admit it to all of you . I kind of had a hard time with it. We came from California where the kids were in sports year round (all four of them on different teams),church etc..

we were really, really busy.
and I liked being busy!

I had a hard time getting used to not always having to be somewhere or having to do something. It was really kind of hard to adjust to. I had to come to terms with the fact that it actually was ok to just "be", without having to go and do something.
It was kind of soul searching time for me.

That being said, I have adjusted quite well, the kids have to. It took only about a month or two. I think we have adjusted almost to well. I am so used to not having to be anywhere at night or do anything that I savor it. You see what I mean, I think I have adjusted to well.. I am becoming a home body who loves to be home with the family. . Going to the beach whenever we please, taking hikes with the family, playing board games, watching movies. And I am totally ok with it!

It really has been a fabulous year. Yesterday I was laying in my bed, on a lazy Sunday afternoon as the kids all piled in at different times during the day to snuggle and laugh and talk, it got me to think about how important this move was for our family. I think I have gotten to know each of my kids much better and grown closer to them, especially the older ones than ever before and I love it! I LOVE that they want to be with us, that they talk to both D and I. I know it won't last much longer but I hope we can continue to keep the closeness we have built this year forever. I vow never to be as busy as before! hahah, It's probably going to get busier isn't it??

Visit from Uncle Chris!

Uncle Chris and Ashley came to visit! We brought out the tight rope and had Chris show us his yoga moves on the thing. Usually the kids are floating in the air when he comes due to his amazing skills at acro-yoga this time they were floating due to the tight rope. What he is doing in the picture above is quite hard. We were all very impressed.

The Flood!

On the first day of Spring Break early in the morning, we woke up to pouring rain, well not just pouring it was raining BUCKETS! I took Dan to work at about 7am. Our street is known for flooding so I was relieved when I saw that it looked pretty clear. But BYUH was a mess. I've never driven in rain puddles that deep. I was going to go to the gym but was afraid to drive any further so I drove home went into my room to workout and a half hour later I get a phone call from neighbor asking if our house was flooding??! Sure enough we looked outside and the water was almost into our front door!. PANIC! Dan was stuck at work, so it was the kids and I. We ran to the room in our house that was ground level and sure enough water was coming in through the garage. So we had to hurry move everything up to higher ground, luckily some sweet boys from the neighborhood came and helped with dressers and heavy items. I was seriously blow away by the generosity of the whole community. People I didn't even know where walking around seeing what they could do to help. Dinner was brought to us. Sand bags delivered.

Front of our house. We keep our slippers (flip flops) out on the front porch and sadly we lost a couple pair:( That was our only loss, thank heavens!)

We were told two more storms were expected that same day and the water on our street was not draining due to clogged drains and it was beginning to rain again. Three years ago our street had so much damage from a flood that everyone had a foot a water throughout the house, they lost their cars and had to move out for 6 months while the repairs were being done. So needless to say every one was in panic mode. The picture below is our Stake Presidency and others from the neighborhood in knee length water offering prayer. After the prayer it was quite powerful how the rain stopped and drains opened, the street was drained within the hour.

BYUH was at our house one hour after the back room drained and had the wet carpet pulled out and cleaned up. They decided to put tile in the back bedroom that flooded. Probably a good idea!
So all in all it was kind of a crazy exciting day.. But it ended up being not to big of a pain. Thankfully!! Oh yea I got on the news too! Laie families work together after rains flood their homes

Frogs and frogs and more frogs

The boys were on a frog catching mission.. They caught 17 in all one day and then their mean mom made them go and let them go where they caught them:)

My mother in law is a SAINT.. in all aspects of the word.

saint

[seynt] a person of great holiness, virtue, or benevolence.

She is there for anyone and everyone.. and no, she's not excepting applications:)

SHE has gone out of her way to come and help me with all my babies.

Grandpa is a saint for always making it possible for her to come.

My father in law surprised her with a trip for her birthday to see the grand kids and

the pouring rain of Hawaii.

It has not rained this much since we moved here.

On her actual birthday we went to a Laua at the Polynesian Cultural Center in the pouring rain..

Notice we are all in sweatshirts with the leis.

The BEST part of the meal! The pineapple drinks!

man that thing is so small, but pretty amazing..

One of the workers on the Bowfin was pushing and pulling (yes literally pushing) T and B into photo poses.

If they look a little frightened its because they were!

SO of course I had to push and pull B and Grandpa into the correct photo poses as well!

Laie Boyz

He is my friend,
he came to hawaii to visit.

he got sick

We went to the PCC.

We went to the beach,
we ate food.

Shannon and my mom and jalynn were loud

Shannon kept doing a creepy laugh.
It was loud and annoying!
They thought it was funny..

We went snorkling,
boogie boarding
and surfing
it was fun.

We slept in a tent in our garage.
My mom kissed Gavin,
it was creepy.
Gavin is scarred for life.
Cool story Brah..

Grandpa Poopoo and Grandma Nancy's visit

We had so much fun with Grandpa Poopoo (long story) and Grandma Nancy!

Went surfing with them,

then hung out at the pool at their condo.

We can't wait for them to come again!

I have been working on a couple projects over the past few months.. The picture below is an extension of our living room. It was taken when we first moved in. I thought I had more recent "before" pictures but all of my pictures were deleted:( Luckily I had this one on the blog and did some serious cut and paste work. Not the clearest picture but you can kind of figure out how it looked.

The following two pictures are "afters"..

I painted the built in cream and the walls a light greyish taupe color.. I like color! I added the pillows on the window seat and some window ties..

The eating area is pictured below. I really wanted something to distract away from the cinder block walls.

So I painted my curtains.

Yes I know, who in the world paints their curtains? Actually lots of people do.

At least that's what they tell me on pinterest, where I found the idea.

They were orginally black so I why not add a couple stripes.

I wish I could say I did it because I couldn't find any black and white striped curtains,

but that would be a lie..

I am just cheap!

I redid the light below.

It was the most hideous light I had ever seen!

Dirty brass was the color of this baby with glass panels that had waves running across each panel.

I wish I had before pictures!!

I am quite happy with my red hanging lamp.

SO excited! The whole redo cost me 3.49$. The cost of spray paint!

I couldn't stop with the lamp I had to do the kitchen table below.

I took pictures as I was doing it but guess what?

They are lost as well:(

When I say I redid it, I really mean it, I sanded the oak top,sanded it till it was raw wood,

then re-stained it and then lacquered!

It was a BIG pain!

Lots of mess ups! In the end I really liked it, would I do it again? Probably!!

The chairs and base of the table were primed and painted black.

Which I LOVE because the chairs were different styles and colors, so it kind of brings it all together.

In the picture below I painted the hanging lamp shade. Yes PAINTED...

( I know I have issues)

It was white so I stenciled and painted.

Don't look to closely...hehe

Below is B and T's bunk bed, which needed a little pick me up...

Primer and paint was needed!

D thinks maybe I have a little too much time on my hands..

shh don't tell him, but he may be right!

The after..

Not much of a difference, but I dyed the bed skirts,

added the head boards

and guess what?

You guessed it, primed and painted the bed side table and the dressers.:)

and painted one wall.

Man, I am sick of paint!!
