Kilauea Volcanoe Eruption And The Goddess Pele

Pele, goddess of fire, lightning, wind and Volcanoes. According to Hawaiian mythology, she created the Hawaiian Islands. She must be angry about something, as Kilauea Volcanoe has been erupting since January 3, 1983, to the present day, when the 2018 lower Puna Eruption started on May 3, 2018. On May 4 there was a 6.9 earthquake. More outbreaks of lava from new fissures in the Puna area occurred. People are evacuating. Losing their homes and their lands, as the lava continues to flow down to the Ocean.

The population of the Big Island of Hawaii always knew that this could occur. Property is much cheaper than Oahu, Maui or Kauai, due to the activity of Kilauea, one of the most active volcanoes in the world. This is a major eruption, the first I have seen in the 25 years I have lived here.

What does a volcanoe erupting on the Big Island have to do with old native Hawaiian legends in this day and time? Most of Hawaii is Christian now! Are people praying to Pele for protection? Will this join the stories of Pele, goddess of fire and volacnoes? Part of the Hawaiian culture is the rich history of the goddesses and gods of ancient Hawaii. What stories of Pele are told?

I found Hawaiian legend, tradition and mythology fascinating! Hawaiian religion was polytheistic, the Polynesians who lived here worshiped gods and goddesses, the most famous being Pele. I began my journey by going to hear one of Hawaii's well-known story teller and Professor at UH Manoa, Glen Grant. He was at a local beach one night, everyone sitting on the grass in beach chairs, intently listening to the "chicken skin" (scary, goosebumps) stories that Glen was telling. My husband had him sign a copy of his book I had, the first of what would be my collection. I gained much knowledge from his books.

Pele lives in Halemaʻumaʻu Crater. A pit crater located within the much larger summit caldera of Kilauea in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The circular crater is 2,530 feet by 2,950 feet. Halemaʻumaʻu is home to Pele, goddess of fire and volcanoes, according to the traditions of Hawaiian mythology. Halemaʻumaʻu means "house of the ʻāmaʻu fern".

How many fissures have opened since May 3? Over 20 fissures have opened resulting in the destruction of at least 82 structures in lower Puna, evacuations of approximately 2000 residents.

Outbreaks of lava fountains up to 300 feet high, lava flows and volcanic gas in the Leilani Estates subdivision were preceded by earthquakes and ground deformation that created cracks in the roads. The gas emitted from the lava flows is toxic and cannot be breathed in. One man was injured sustaining a broken hip when he was hit by a lava rock from an eruption, when he was standing outside of the evacuation area. That is a lot of force!

Lava rivers flowing down from Kilauea to the ocean have crossed and closed part of Route 137 continuing on down to the ocean. As of June 4 the number of houses destroyed by the lower Puna eruption was 117, according to Hawaii County Civil Defense. Seeing the lava streams from on aerial view on the news is actually extraordinary! The good hardworking people living on the Big Island are taking things in stride. After all, what can they do, but pray? And the lava continues in streams into the ocean. A spectacular show from the goddess of fire as she covers up farmland and adds new lava rock land to the island of Hawaii.

The lava that is being ejected into the atmosphere forms thin volcanic ash glass streams that is called Pele's hair. The strands are formed by the glass from lava, lava fountains, lava cascades, and vigorous lava flows. Islanders grow an air fern which is called Peles Hair. Hung from tree branches or off of the bottom of the roof, it will dry out and turn grey, but you still need to water it occasionally to keep it alive! Some people like their Peles hair green, and water it daily. It can grow long, two feet long and up! I have even seen it hung on chain link fencing, making it a part of the fence! The reason some people like it grey, is Pele has long white hair according to legend and is often seen with a white dog. Lava is a sacred piece of the fire goddess. It is bad luck to pick up a lava stone if you are a tourist, to take home with you. You will have bad luck, and the Big Island of Hawaii has hundreds of tourists returning lava rock each year, claiming that they were having bad luck. Don't mess with Pele and take a piece of her home with you!

Even as Kilauea is erupting and people are trying to find out if they still have homes to go to, there are those individuals who are collecting the Peles hair when it cools down and are selling it on Ebay. Will these people experience a special kind of bad luck from Pele? What kind of person would want to profit from another persons disaster and misfortune?

Watch for Pele! She has been seen as an old woman with long white hair and with her is her white dog! You have to respect the old myths and legends that are still being handed down even until this day, by Native Hawaiians. Two boys who had been out drinking one night, were driving home drunk on the south side of Oahu. In the headlights they saw an old woman with white hair, hitchhiking. They pulled over to pick her up. One boy got in the back seat and gave the front seat to the old lady. She pulled out a cigarette, palmed her hand, and flame came up from her hand to light her cigarette. Now the boys were startiing to get nervous! Down the road a way, they saw a traffic accident, around a hairpin curve, involing a truck and a car. If they had not stopped to pick up the hitchhiker, they would have been the car involved. They got home to the Makiki District of Honolulu, and drove up to a cab stand to let out the old woman. The driver said, "This is a far as we go, Aunty, I will get you a cab to take you the rest of the way." He got out of the car and went to the nearest taxi and told the driver would he please take the old woman where she wanted to go. The taxi driver responed, "What old woman? Only another boy in the back seat." Chills ran down the boys spine as he realized that the hitchhiker was Pele, and that she had saved their lives! She had saved them from the accident they had seen on the road!

They say the Internet has made the world smaller as anyone with a computer can put anything online. It may be a smaller world, but online, it is highly competitive to drive visitors (potential customers) to your site, no matter what you are selling!

I pulled up a search engine and put in what are the top 10 ways to drive traffic to my website?
The results were many and varied on how to generate hits to your site. And most of the results were dated 2007 or 2008! What worked then, does it still work now? So, I refined my search specifying the year "best ways to generate traffic in 2014."

1. Starting a blog is a good place to start to generate traffic. It is very easy to do. I use Google's Blogger. What do you blog about? Well, what are you expert at? What is your passion? Do you have a service you want to advertise? Do you have a product you want to sell? What if you have none of the above? You can always market somebody else's products and earn a commission off of each sale.

Everybody has one thing, product or service that they are an expert at. This is what you call your niche. Use your search box and key in your niche, whatever it may be, and see what your search pulls up! You will find all the other sites and blogs that also are in your niche. It never hurts to give credit by linking back to a site where you have researched your niche for content for your blog. Give credit where it is due!

A blog is only about 200 words at the least. Use as many keyword phrases as you can so the Search Engines can find you. Once you are done with your blog, you want to send it to as many people as you can via social media. One way to do this is to just click the share options at the bottom of your blog or even better, put a subscribe link up on the social network and give your readers an option to subscribe to your blog, and now you are building a list.

Whatever the content on your site or blog is, you can't just use one keyword phrase after another in order to get that traffic! You may not get published if you do that and have to rewrite. Especially with articles, or Press Releases. Learned through the school of hard knocks! Been there, tried that!

There are two kinds of traffic, free and paid. What do you have more of, money or time? Set a budget for yourself each month and a goal of how many people do you want to meet a day, or how much do you want to earn off of your investment? If you have time, then you can meet people at Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, Google+ just to name a few. Give good quality content, and I have found that most people do not like to be pressured with an offer a day, or every conversation is about selling them something. Get to know them and find out what they are into, why are they online, and what do you have in common. It is a numbers game, so the more people you "talk" to via your blog or your social networking or mailing your list, you may sell 5 out of 100. Any relationship that you build is worth having, so don't be discouraged.

Be consistent. This is really important! On again, off again, nets you ZERO! Also learned in the school of hard knocks!

Here is a great place to get FREE traffic. https://www.answers.yahoo.com. You can answer questions there on any topic that you are the expert at. It is really unbelievable how many people answer a question without leaving the link to their site or blog, or even their Facebook page. Leave your site info, or again, leave a link to your subscribe page.

Aloha to all my Readers!

It is my dream and my reality to be able to generate income from home by using my computer as a tool. When I first starting online marketing about 10 years ago I created this blog. If I created this blog today, I would not name it Alohalady's blog. Do you know why? If you are searching for information on how to work from home, nobody is going to put Alohalady Blog into the search box from Google, Bing, Yahoo or even Publishers Clearing house! You want to drive traffic (visitors) to your site you need to use keywords, and it is a huge niche! Niche being what you are marketing or promoting online! So if I key in work from home, or legitimate work from home opportunities, you will not find Alohalady blog. So what I do when I blog is I try to use keywords. Keywords are what the search engines are looking for and indexing when put those words you are using into the search engine block.

Earning from home is a great commute! You will make many new connections and friends on sites such as FaceBook, Google+, Twitter and lLinkedIn, just to name a few. I made many ventures when I first started out online and was a newbie. Newbie meaning somebody who is new to working online. Basically, if you can cut and paste, you can work from home. A decade ago we all used Safelists, Traffic Exchanges and e-mail marketing. All can still be used, and can be effective if you do it properly. My first venture became known as the "Club Built on Spam " as one of the ways we got to email people was by going to the online classifieds and "harvesting e-mails" and then e-mailing them without their permission, to promote and get them to join us. I had a huge downline, but it didn't matter because hardly any of them actually upgraded from a free account to a paid account. I made about $50-$75 per month. I found out later that is actually good, as many people never make a dime. I even received a 1099 from a later venture into MLM for $900 for the whole year! I e-mailed them when I cancelled my membership that $900 was nothing for the amount of time I had to spend working on my computer, before work, (I had a full time job then) after work, and all day Saturday and Sunday. I got a reply that I should be grateful to make anything at all online! The sad fact was that this program made promises that they couldn't deliver on.

So, if you don't want to spend every spare minute you have at your computer, you learn to work smarter, not harder! Use the tools available to automate your time online. How much do you have to spend to advertise? Do you have an Autoresponder? How do you build a list of people it is okay to email? If somebody e-mails me and I don't know who they are, I will keep their email address and put it into my contacts, so because I was emailed by that person, I can now e-mail them! Most of the spam get I have to un-subscribe if I am not interested, as it is coming from that person's autoresponder, not from their actual contact email.

I have an "all tools in one place" program which is still rolling out yet more tools for us to use and they are trying to activate all tools by the end of October 2013. That's only two weeks! Right now I have a Facebook marketing tool, my own welcome letter and my own webcast video that I can use to market, whatever I am promoting at the time! I am always looking tor new team leaders to bring their teams on board with me, and in general for anybody who wants to promote their product or service online. I would like to talk about marketing online today. More and more, with living expenses high, unemployment high and job wages not keeping up with the cost of living, people are looking for ways to make more money. If you are married and have kids, there is a great possibility that both Mom and Dad work full time to meet the bills. Then what do you have left over, to put away for your children's education, or for your own retirement? Do you believe that Social Security will still be even here when you are ready to retire?

What you want to do is when somebody does visit your site, ideally, is to get their name and email address so that you can let them know when you are giving a deal, adding a new product or giving a bonus item away. This is what marketers call "list building". When you have a large list of people, Internet marketing is a numbers game, the bigger the number of visitors, the greater your sales and commissions! The best way to grow your list is with an autoresponder, which is software that programs e-mails to go out to your list when you want them to. Fat Free Abs.....Fast! Or, I hate how my stomach looks!

I just hate looking at my stomach! Especially as I had to endure two stomach surgeries within a 4 month period from December 2011 to April 2012. Not only do I have an atrocious scar, but I ended up looking pregnant for months, no baby ever came and my stomach will no longer allow me to wear a bikini!!

I have always been self conscious about my stomach. I would look at pictures of myself and my drop dead gorgeous friends at the beach or where ever, and look at my stomach and just go, OMG! Now, when I look at those pictures I think, wow, I really was in good shape then! Just shows you the perspective that time will give you!

In my never ending quest for health, beauty and fitness, I have found some things that are real easy to do, fun, yes it has to be fun! and most of the time are just good common sense.

I hate sweating and hard physical work! Exercising to tone up. Doing crunches to give my stomach that 6 pack ab look. Going to the gym and using the equipment to tone up and build my strength to me is just plain boring. I have tried many different types of exercise to tone up and slim down. Running, walking, boogie boarding, the gym, the weights to get rid of that "rooster skin" look that hangs from the upper arms. I have discovered that if it is not something I enjoy doing for exercise, I will not stay consistent with it, and being consistent is really the key to ridding your stomach of ugly belly fat and unsightly love handles.

You can tone up your stomach, get rid of the love handles at any age. I am not saying that a 70 year old will suddenly get the body of a 20 year old, but you can look good at any age.

It is what you eat and when as well. If you love to dance and that is your exercise, the best time to do it is in the morning prior to eating breakfast. This raises your body's metabolism for the whole day, so it will burn off fat cells faster for you. Every body's metabolism is different, but the faster your metabolism is, the faster you will burn fat.

Eat your main meal for breakfast or lunch! The earlier you eat your main meal for the day the better as far as burning calories. You may want to consult with a dietitian as to what foods you can eat to help you burn fat. You don't have to eat 3 times a day, in fact, many nutritionists recommend eating as many as 6 small meals a day, with plenty of fruits and veggies. I only eat when I am hungry and always try to cut my self off by 6:00 pm. A steak will lie in your stomach undigested if you are eating that steak at 8:00 pm.

Make sure that you give yourself a cheat day! I never say I am on a diet, it just makes me hungrier. I just do the best I can do everyday eating healthy, not giving in to my sweet tooth and not expecting perfection from myself. Perfection and diet are just two words that don't go together, if you know what I mean!

I highly recommend Mike Geary's Truth About Abs. Mike is a registered dietitian, as well as a personal trainer. Having his book is like having a personal trainer to me! He has educated me on what to eat to burn fat, what foods not to eat as well, how to get a toned flat stomach without doing any crunches, really, NO CRUNCHES! All About Cat Behavior

Aloha to my friends who love cats!

First of all I would like to say Mahalo (thank you) so very much for the comments that were posted on my blog anonymously. I really appreciate the feedback, especially that my blog was useful to you all.

Way back when in 1997 when we brought home our first rescue, Scampers, she fit in our palm. She was the sole surviving member of the litter of cats at the boat yard where my husband worked. Every cat is very unique and the way we played with her, slept with her, and what we fed her as treats....well, it gave her some strange cat behavior!

Cats are naturally curious. They get into everything especially when they are kittens. Thus the saying, curiosity killed the cat. Good thing they have nine lives! We were renting a room in a large home, shared bathroom and kitchen while we established ourselves and saved enough money for our own place. The house manager told us we had to keep Scampers in our room, she couldn't roam the home freely. Our double bed took up most of the room so naturally Scampers slept with us. She ate, slept, played and did her "business" in that room and wasn't socialized with other cats, she was the "one!" So she thinks of herself as a person, not a cat. She will be 16 years old in September.

We gave her Hagen Das ice cream when we ate it. She would just stick her whole head into the pint sized carton and lick out every last drop. So today whenever we eat ice cream, or yogurt, she wants her share. She will sit at my feet and keep tapping me with her front paw, until she gets her due. Since she wasn't brought up with multiple cats, she never took much of a part in any of the other cats that were rescued after her. She stays aloof. Our second rescue, from a feral litter at my place of employment, was a tiny little guy with HUGE ears. We named him Rusty. He was a nasty little customer! Now he is a huge orange tabby, who takes care of the rest of the cats, except of course, Scampers, and is the Alpha male. She would hiss at him, but when you bring in a kitten, the older cat will let the kitten eat first. Eventually, the hissing stopped and they would play together and everyone was happy. This is true of all cats, the kittens will stand in the food bowl and eat their share, the older cats will allow them to finish before they eat.

Kittens should be handled at a young age, in order to gain your trust. Both Rusty and Scampers are used to grooming, having flea meds or collars applied, and are easy to handle. The younger kitties that after that, Rusty "mothered" them, and they are much harder to put on the flea collars, although they do love the grooming. Cats are social and my cats actually hug each other. Except, of course, Scampers because she is human! LOL!

Cats purr for many reasons. Pleasure is one. I had a friend who had never had a cat, and she got a kitten. She wanted to know what that strange sound was when her kitty purred! She thought something was wrong and was all worried. I reassured her that everything was fine and her cat was purring because it was happy. Cats do not like their bellies scratched as dogs do, and if you do this, you may get some claw in response. They like to have their throats rubbed, behind their ears, on the side of their face, and petting from head down the spine to the tail.

Kneading is common to all domestic cats. When in a state of ease they alternately push out and pull in their front paws, often alternating between right and left limbs. Some cats actually appear to "nurse" or suck on clothing or bedding during kneading. Some people believe "kneading" (other than being hell on your comforter, chair or pillows,) stimulate your cat and make it feel good, in the same manner as humans stretching. I learn a lot from my cats, I always stretch out after taking a cat nap.

I can't go into all cat behavior in one blog (obviously!) I will talk more on the subject to be sure. I know for a fact that cats communicate with each other or none of the strays would have ever made it past my American Pit Bull Terrier to the back yard, where I would feed the feral cats of the neighbor hood, and where kittens would pop out from under my house. Cats rub the side of their heads on the corner of an object to "mark" it as their turf. They are territorial and there is a social structure for each colony or pride of cats. Remember I said Rusty was our Alpha Male?

And Scampers is human, my husband and I are her Alpha's!

Puppy Proofing Your Home

So now you have everything you need for the newest member of your family! I can only say "Congratulations!" You have just entered into one of the most rewarding relationships that you will have in your life. Every dog has his own unique character and much of it is formed while he is a puppy and growing (really fast, by the way!), so I want to do everything I can to help you do things right.

You already got all your supplies. Until your new friend is housebroken and stopped teething you will want to confine him to one room that is easily cleaned. Dogs are social animals so the closer this room is to where the family is the better. A kitchen or bathroom that is not carpeted is ideal! A wire mesh baby gate across the doorway(s) works best, it cannot be chewed as a plastic or wooden gate can be. Puppies love to chew! It is actually good for dogs to chew for their dental health, it helps clean tartar from the teeth and keeps the gums healthy. You just want to train your puppy what is OK to chew. I once had an American Pit Bull Terrier who chewed up our weed eater! Absolutely true story!

You will want to remove any hazardous and poisonous items in your home that your puppy can get into when unsupervised. Put all cleaning agents, antifreeze, pesticides, drugs and other household garage or garden chemicals away from puppy's reach. If you cannot eliminate electrical wires that he may chew, you can coat them with Bitter Apple, a safe, but nasty tasting substance created to prevent chewing. Many houseplants are poisonous and should be placed out of his reach. If you have non poisonous plants, place them out of reach, because no puppy can resist playing with a plant!

Don't make your garage your new best friends area. It is too isolated for your puppy to be able to socialize and feel like a part of the family. If your puppy is in the garage, with you, make sure the anti freeze is out of his reach.

You can child proof the cupboards and keep them closed while your puppy is in his area. Puppies have been known to chew anything! If he is in the bathroom, you can throw the shower curtain over the rod and out of reach.

Make sure you provide chewable toys. Sate toys are a necessity! Rawhide chew toys are a favorite, however, there have been incidents when a torn chunk from a rawhide toy got caught in a dogs throat and choked him. Our American Pit Bull Terrier, Kala, swallowed a whole rawhide bone, and I actually used the Heimlich Method on him and it came flying out of his mouth! Unfortunately, that was only part of the problem, he had eaten a poisonous toad and ended up at the Vet's overnight, and thank God, he lived. So give your puppy the rawhide while you are home, and don't choose it for his crate toy. Chew toys made of hard nylon are safe, even when you are not at home.

What You Need For Your New Puppy

Congratulations! you have just selected and brought home a new puppy! They are so cute, aren’t they? All the little dog wants to do is wiggle in your arms and lick your face! So, you have just committed to dog ownership, which is like having a child that you need to train and teach. It is said there are no bad dogs, just bad owners.

Before you bring home your puppy, you need to have the supplies and an area in your home where your puppy will live while he is learning what you expect of him. That is just a tiny little dog you have, and training starts immediately in the way you do things with your puppy. This little dog wants to please you more than anything! You just need to show him how.

You will need supplies for your new puppy prior to bringing him/her home. You will need:
food bowl
water bowl
collar
leash
ID tag
bed
crate/portable dog kennel (large enough for the full grown dog)
toys
grooming supplies

Dogs are social animals. Usually, puppies are available when they are only six weeks old and have been weaned from the mother, which means they are eating food and not nursing on Mom anymore. You will be taking your puppy away from his littermates, usually anywhere from 2 and sometimes as many as 12 puppies!
You just removed his social network, so now you will provide that for him. I can remember putting an alarm clock with a new puppy when I was a kid, warm blankets and newspaper covering the whole floor, where the puppy would be put down to bed at night, and then being kept awake every time the little guy woke up by his crying and yelping! This is totally normal as they are waking up alone, no littermates and no Mom.

A dog’s natural instinct is to build a den for himself. This is where the crate comes in. Puppies need a lot of sleep and will sleep several times each day. The crate is a tremendous help with housebreaking. Dogs do not want to soil their dens. When your puppy is ready to sleep put him in his crate, gently saying “crate.” The crate itself should be snug, comfortable and soft inside. The bedding should be easy to change. Nothing dangerous for your puppy to chew should be in the crate. Every time you put your puppy in his crate, put a favorite toy or special treat in front of him, saying “crate” as you put him in.

Pet Safety For the Holidays

Aloha and Happy Holidays! We enjoy the holiday season along with our four legged children, our cats and our dogs. I would like to give you some tips on making sure your holidays stay happy by bringing to your attention some facts about the season!

Poinsettias, mistletoe, and holly are among the most dangerous and your pet could experience kidney failure if he or she eats any part of a lily. Keep the out of reach! Taking care of our pets is pretty much like having a toddler in the home. You need to “child proof” your environment, in this case for your pets! If you do have an emergency you can call the animal Poison Control Center at 1-888-426-4435.

When you are hosting party, many pets are not used to a lot of people coming and going on their turf! Especially young children, between the ages of 5 and 9. Hold your dog’s collar, as they sniff the palms of your guests. If your dog growls or seems agitated, move him to a room all his own. Or don’t invite those people back! Dogs are very good at judging a person’s character. If my dog doesn‘t like somebody, I generally do not invite them in.

Don’t feed turkey or chicken bones to your dog. They can splinter and choke your pet or cause other internal damage. Onions, garlic, grapes, raisin and candy, especially sugar free candy are all toxic to your best friend. Get them special dog and cat treats for the occasion. Chocolate is also very bad for your pet. The caffeine and other ingredients in chocolate is toxic to pets and can last for more than 24 hours.

Here in Hawaii, a lot of fireworks are set off for New Year’s Eve. Make sure you call your vet and get some sedatives for your dog. Cats, I have never had a problem with, they don’t like the noise, but they will go find a hiding spot and stay there. The general rule is to give your dog 1mg per body weight of your dog. Of course, ask your vet! However, sedatives effect each animal differently. My 45 pound Bob dog would be saggy eyed and staggering on one 25 mg sedative from the vet. Be careful with sick or elderly animals. If you haven’t had a recent check up for your dog, and you can’t pick up a sedative from your vet, you can use over the counter, Benadryl. They come in 25 mg tablets and I found them to be less effective, so I would give more. You need to tranquilize your dog at least an hour before all the noise and bomb blasts start. Bring them inside and avoid the danger of them chasing after the fireworks, or getting lost. I hope you can take advantage of this advice! If you know of any other dangers to your animals, please leave a comment, especially if you have cats that have reactions to fireworks, since I have never experienced that.

I saw a funny picture the other day of a cat looking at a Christmas tree with the caption saying, “Oh Christmas Tree, oh Cfhristmas Tree, your ornaments are history!” This is so true! I always use my cheap decorations lower on the tree or you can tie you tree to the ceiling. I noticed when they were young they really went for the tree, but now, I have less broken ornaments. I alswyas have a squirt bottle full of water and just give your baby a spritz with the water, that will keep kitty away from the tree, at least for when you are not looking! You can also use string instead of the little metal hooks to hang your ornaments.

This blog is in memory of my best friend and beloved Bob, who was with me for 15 and a half years. Thank you, Bob, for all the wonderful memories. I wish we had another Christmas together. Be happy at Rainbow Bridge and I will see you again!

Okay, back to our subject! What ever pet you choose a cat or a dog, they both have very specific needs. What does a cat need? Kitten or an adult cat have different needs. What you need to remember is that when you get your cat you are committing to a lifetime of care. Cats are indoor animals, a recommendation of the ASPCA. This is to keep your cat safe from all the outside dangers of cars, dogs, other cats and especially humans! Your cat is like a child that will never grow up! Kittens will run around like crazy and their natural curiosity will get them into everything in your home! Put child proof latches on cupboards and closets where you don't want kitty to go. Kittens eat 3 times a day, an adult cat only once. What you need to provide is love, love, love! Also get a cat scratcher, one per cat. Cats sharpen and shed their claws naturally. A litter box also one per cat, ideally. I have 5 cats and 4 litter boxes, so I am a box short! Your kitty will naturally gravitate to the cat box to take care of biz, if you get my drift! They also love to eat greens, you can buy kittie greens at just about any Longs, Walmart, Kmart or Pet Store. Of course, online is always an excellent spot to purchase and you can save a lot if you have multiple pets, as I do!

Many people say cats can't be trained and are not as affectionate as dogs. I have both cats and dogs as a result of my animal rescue efforts, and cats can be trained and are very affectionate! It is all in the way you treat them. What you put in you get back. Call your cat by it's name frequently. Praise and pet your cat when it is being good and for discipline, I just use a squirt bottle full of water! It has range and you can become quite a good shooter, like me! You can add a third white vinegar to the mix, it will sting your pets eyes for a short time and not do damage, while providing a very strong deterrent to the behavior. Water works just as well for me, though. I don't even want them to sting! Such a sap!

Speed Up Your Weight Loss

I really do try to blog daily, but I have been so busy trying to speed up my weight loss with constant and painful exercise that it takes me 22 hours out of 24. I lost 8 ounces last week!

But if you made your New Years Resolution, as about 75% of the rest of the population in the U.S. to be losing weight, actually probably more like 99.9% of our population did, sometimes it just feels that way. Like that is all you do is think about not eating and exercising!

I actually have cut off some pounds but I am not sure how much, I can tell by the way my clothes fit. I finally had to give in and go purchase some new threads, then the pounds start to shed! Typical, yeah?

One tip that I always remember is that everything you do is exercise. I think I told you in an earlier blog, or may have been one of my articles, that a test done on hotel maids, half of who were told their work was exercise and half who were not told, the half that was told did lose weight, while the other half did not.

The absolute best stomach exercise is the world is to hold it in as tight as you can, picture your belly button hitting your spine. Please don't stop breathing when you do this. Breathing as you exercise allows oxygen to flow to the muscle group that you are targeting. Anything you are doing that is physical, just focus on your muscle groups you want exercised and tighten them up as you clean, go up stairs, walk into the store, walking through the mall (phew, that I can feel the next day!), especially when with my hubby who is merciless and walks quite quickly!

I highly recommend Mike Geary's Truth About Abs for being a highly educational and enlightening book for all of us who want to rid ourselves of that ugly belly fat and those wonderful love handles. This book has given me a shock at times, when things I think were healthy to eat turn out to be quite the opposite. You don't need to spend the extra to get Soy Milk for instance! Mike is a certified nutritionist as well as a personal trainer, and this book has been wildly successful for him, because he teaches us how to eat food that actually burns fat, so basically it is just a re-educating of how and what you eat.

It has been a month since I have blogged. I am so sorry! My computer got sick and had to go home to get fixed under warranty and now it is back and I am back online.

Make sure if you are starting out online that you educate yourself on advertising and how it works. There are so many ways that you can advertise online. This puts me at a great disadvantage for advertising because I would be making much more income online if I took the time to actually read how each different type of advertising works!

I come from the Mainland, where it would actually be cold enough to have snow on the mountain, and even on the beach back in 1976! No, I will not tell you my age! We would go to the mountains and cut our own tree. It was so much fun! Here, Island Style, it is Mele Kelikimaka and Santa is on a surfboard! Over the years I have lived here I have gotten used to it and it actually does feel Christmasy with 75 degree weather. The trees have to be shipped in and one year a week before Christmas, they ran out of trees, and those who had them left were charging up to $150 per tree! That was about 5 years ago, so that may be normal now, as far as pricing goes!

The economy and having money to spend at this season leaves a lot to be desired. You can no longer count on showing up to work everyday on time and do a good job for job security. As you know, many Companies that were always American icons, have closed down. People don't have jobs. The Unemployment rate is up and that is a known fact as many of the unemployed ran out of unemployment and are now on Welfare. There is no middle class. I don't understand what middle class is! You either have or you are struggling financially. -->

More and more Americans are turning to the Internet to make an Income, either part time or full time from home. For that extra $500 per month to supplement your income to full time workers who have more than one income stream. If one stream dries up, you still have income streams that are making money for you.

Because everything is tied together at Google, you can also sign up for a Google Ad Words account to advertise and Google Ad Sense, which will monetize your blog.

How to Get More Traffic to Your Site

Yes, it's me with the traffic again! Sometimes on our morning news show they have a "viral video" that is usually something really funny. It has gotten something like 750,000 page views! Wow! If only you can make go site go viral with visitors.

I was telling you last blog about keywords and keyword phrases. Whatever it is you are marketing online, if it is a service, a product or your page for your offline business, Traffic is the most important thing you need to get. After all, if you don't have customers (traffic) you can't make any sales!

--> I have been online for awhile and there are plenty of ways to waste your time working endless hours with little or no results to attract traffic to your page. I have tried them all! The best thing to do is decide what your keyword phrase will be.

Go to Google Keyword tool and put your phrase in. This will show you how often your phrase is used, daily, weekly and monthly. Use your keyword phrase in your title and through out you article or blog. I like to save my keyword phrase on a note pad document along with other keyword phrases that would point to my site.

Another great way to generate traffic to your site is Article Writing!

There are many sites online that you can submit articles to. What is your area of expertise?
What is your niche? You can research online about your product or whatever you are writing an article about, by doing a search and reading other sites and taking from them what you need, NO! I did not say copy somebody elses article! Just educate yourself so when you write your article you can write some real content that would help the person who is reading it. Make your articles rich in keyword and your keyword phrase in both the title and the body.

Most ezines want from 400 words or more for the articles they accept. The first article I published I had to wait about a week to get it approved, but that's okay! You cannot use your article for promotion for your site. Most ezines do not allow links in your article. But at the bottom of the article there is a resource box where you may advertise your site and product. Also in the about me bio box, tell your readers about you and let them get to know you. You can also advertise there.

I would like to share with you some of the methods I have used for generating traffic to my sites. You need to know what keywords will drive traffic to your niche, and to your page.

Keywords are simply words or phrases that you type into the search engine box when you are trying to find something online. A product, a service any thing at all! Some keywords you use will bring up hundreds of thousands of addresses. You want to narrow down the keyword search so you are not competing with such high numbers!

Remember, when you are writing an article or blogging, the first thing you need to have keyword rich content in is the title.

Google has a handy tool called keyword tool. Once you have decided on what niche you are going to write an article about, you should have some ideas for what keywords you would like to select. Go to Google Keyword Tool and type in your keywords.Pick out some keyword phrases that maybe have about 5000 sites pulled up, or even less. I paste the keywords on a word pad document for easy access! Use your keyword phrase as much as possible, but not to the point of being redundant.

Search with keyword: how to drive traffic to my Click Here! site. Do some research on your niche and make sure that you are giving out some good, solid information, enough for your reader to want more information. Most articles should be anywhere from 400-500 words.

You want to generate traffic to your landing page, this would be your site, or if you are an affiliate of a program, most of them give you their site to market. Having your own site, though, you can drive traffic to it and it can have an email subscription box on it for your prospects to receive more information, as well as links to your programs. Generate massive traffic to your site by working at it as much as you can.

As long as I can remember, I was never comfortable in my own skin. I was very self-conscious about the way I looked and was constantly comparing myself to others, and wishing how I looked like them. I was very skinny all the way through high school and definitely was not cheer leader material.

People always said “Oh, she is beautiful!”, but then beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I didn’t behold myself well!

Everywhere you look today there are smiling models on magazine covers, on television ads, in the shows and movies you watch. Why do we compare ourselves with them? Is that the way we are supposed to look? Here in Hawaii, go to any beach I don’t care if you are in Waikiki or at Makaha Surfing Beach, you WILL NOT see a beach full of lean and toned bodies!

No matter what your age, you can be in your twenties, thirties, forties all the way up to your seventies and you can still look good, be in good health and have a toned body. Just look at Jane Fonda or Susan Lucci! They are older than me and look better than me. Of course I am sure that they have the means to keep their looks as well. So is it a matter of money that is keeping you from being happy with what you see in the mirror? Money has nothing to do with it, it is about knowing how.

Most of my twenties I spent at the gym toning up. I thought I was overweight at 115 and 5 foot 6 inches! LOL! But your muscles do have memory, so you can easily get yourself back into shape, and without all the hours spent at the gym.

It may surprise you that many of the foods recommended that we eat to be healthy and the exercises that we do will actually not flatten your tummy or give you 6 pack abdominal muscles. How you lose weight and tone up can simply be a matter of re-educating yourself and have an open mind on losing that fat that you find so unsightly. It is a matter of fact that after the age of 40 you start to lose muscle tone. How can you tone up and lose weight?

When you gain weight your fat cells swell up like balloons until they can’t get any bigger. Then they divide and create new fat cells. I sat down about 4 hours ago to work on my website. I went to my email first. That's okay you have to know what is going on, check your sales, email from family and friends. But there is all that email that comes to you from the sites you advertise from, ezines, social sites. Is all that really necessary? I mostly unsubscribe but to a few. This is why. When I post a classified ad, that site sends me an email, that a solo ad will generate tons of traffic to my site! So of course, we all want traffic to our sites, right? Next thing I know I am signing up for yet another site. The page wouldn't come up, so I definitely take that as a sign, and said, Wake up Linda! Your are losing your focus! You need to get your web page up and running before your 3 pm webinar. Get to work and make some money online, instead of joining more sites, which means more emails and on and on!

Working from home and earning income to replace your job is very challenging. Most people just give up after their first several months. The truth is that online earning is hard, you need to build relationships with people, have products that they want, have your own page or landing page to advertise. All of this takes time. It will be awhile before you can spend more time with your family, or be financially independent or go online 4 hours a day and be done!

I copy and paste them to a wordpad document and use the ones that don't bring up 60,000 sites! Too much competition! With keywords that bring up 5000 or under usually will get you better results.

Weird title, yes I know, but I have a good reason for it!

Last December 7, 2011 I was taken to the Emergency Room by my husband because I thought I was having a stroke. I have this weird thing called "pre cursor warnings to stroke" due to a crinkled vein in the back of my skull. That is what my ex-neurologist told me and put me on aspirin. So I was having symptoms and also lower belly pain. CT scan of head and abdomen were done.

Imagine my surprise when I found out my head was still the same, I was not having a pre cursor warning for stroke but I did have a perforated colon.(Come on now, get your minds out of the gutter, I was NOT having strange sex!) Lucky for me the best surgeon was there and explained to my husband and myself that I needed immediate surgery or I would die. I'm like, What? My husband is like totally stunned and freaked. I ask what are my chances without surgery, Doc said "You Will Die" straight up guy, yeah? I said what are my chances with surgery and he says 99.9% that you will live.

The cut they made was started around my piko (belly button) and all the way down to my bikini line, if I could still wear one! lol! This is on top of two other surgery's I had over the years, one was like a C-Section cut and the other was an appendectomy. So I had always exercised hard on my stomach, but this cut was too much! I was in the hospital for 10 days, Eric visited me daily and smuggled in my favorite yogurt, French Vanilla Yoplait Original! I had to get up and start walking from day 1. Oweeee! I won't go into the gory details any further.

Come April 2012 I had a second surgery to reverse the first! They wanted all my colon back inside my body, sounds good to me, put it where it belongs. But they cut the same cut again! I cannot stand to look in the mirror any more and exercising is really hard with the back problems I have from years of horses, Harley's and car wrecks! That would take up a whole other blog!

I got me a Pilate's flex able tube from Publishers Clearing House, yes, I will someday win! I haven't really been able to use it, I have that really tough to lose lower belly fat. I found an awesome way of taking it down! This method really works! And it doesn't cost a lot, doesn't take a lot of exercise, and I learned what foods to avoid. Best money I ever spent!

As I always mention our cats and dogs, Nohea, my Ridgeback, Pittbull, and yes, Basenji, barkless dogs is not doing well at all. She had taken a fall down the stairs and as she is an older dog, poor thing couldn't stand long enough to eat her food. I don't want to put her down, I believe that God decides when it is our time to go, but I don't want to see her suffer, either.We are fund raising for her Vet visit, and hopefully we can rid her of some of her pain until she heals from her fall. We love her so much, she is the sweetest non barking dog I have ever rescued or kept.
