CTWD is on the watch for errant lawn ornaments because Boykins seem to be particularly fond of cameras. While he guards the yard perimeter waiting for his photo-op, Mr Moretti lays in wait and snags a prize.

There are many southern sub-cultures. There are mountain southerners, deep south southerns, urban southerners and there are coastal southerners. I am/was a coastal southerner. We call folks who lived out in the country as "being in the sticks". I grew up in the sticks. This means I did not grow up on the water but in the country side (inland). Also we Eastern North Carolinians did not use the term "redneck". Here is a bit of trivia. Growing up in the sticks, those people who everyone else lumps in the general category as "redneck" we called "grits". Hey it was what we did... we Sticks people.

Susan H has obviously been to the coast. Coastal yard art is different and usually flamboyant.

In celebration of the auspicious occasion upon my recent re-tweetment, I would like to propose a little game.

We are going to have a sub-game running until October-ish. I had the spark of an idea from a comment last night on Facebook. Since my demographic is so small - (yard art and the people who secretly love it) I have decided to expand my topic for one day a week.

Yard Art and Pets

On Mondays or Tuesday... you guys decide. I will post any pictures I receive of your pet and a yard art item. This is perfect for those of you are a little nervous scouting out lawn artists. Any pet, cat, dog, horse, ferret... frog (That's for you Lin) and maybe your favorite piece of your own collection or maybe your Mom's... whatever.

In October we will vote on the perfect 12 for a calendar. Those people whose photos are selected will receive a free calendar. Just in time for Christmas because you know your sister would love a calender featuring Snooky-bo and a flamingo. (yes I am finally doing this Cindy)

This is not as easy as it sounds because it took 15 shots with my camera phone in every one he looked bored. You can tell he is really excited about the idea of me dragging him around to get yard art pictures until I get the ball rolling. Also he is ignoring me but the is normal.

I have been very concerned that I killed the Highway game when I took my extended leave of absence. I still played it in the car. Hubby is fairly numb to having conversations interrupted by: " ooh, did you see that! Wow , did you see that birdbath... where's my camera." and then pick the conversation up like I did not blurt right through the topic at hand.

I stopped on a 2 lane highway and took this crappy shot, then realized there were at least 4 people in the garage staring at me- so I just waved at them and took off giggling to myself.

I believe what may be a Christmas nativity scene having a holiday swim in the local pool AND... AND Joseph is really getting down with a Sombrero. That may be a wiseman in a football helmet or he could be a football player for Jesus. Hard to tell.

And so we begin again. For those of you who are not familiar with The Yard Art Game, we'll take a few minutes to cover the basic concept. The Yard Art Game is a game, a driving game. Driving games are pretty much a lost art with DVD's and game systems in the back seat of most family vehicles. But I love the chase and I love the competition against the opposite side of the car. And most of all, I love a yard artists and the reporters who discover their work.

I am an obsessive person. I go to extremes to be entertained. When I play a video game it is until 3am. 3am where I hear the creak of the bedroom door and hubby is standing there is his little hubby undies giving me "the look".

I obsessed on my blog to the point of burn out AND

I obsess with the other love my my life, Pete (my horse).

My shoulder needs repairing, I get that..but wait HOW LONG BEFORE I CAN RIDE. Therefore, I am investigating the alternative to feed my equine fix while my left arm is immobilized for 6 to 8 weeks.

Finally, the patron saint of blogs has granted me divine blog permission to once again post nonsense upon the unsuspecting public.

I had a nice rest, well not really, I worked my ass off at work, gained a intern...have managed not to kill said intern and seeing a major product come to completion.

News: Rotatory Cuff surgery next week.

Result: upcoming absolute complete boredom.

The Bernie Scandal - Cheaters Suck

Earlier in the week I posted on the Facebook page that the Milwaukee Brewers were launching a marketing promotion using a lawn art version of their mascot Bernie.

Being ever resourceful in the ways of yard art I managed to find a source...(well The Hubby did), a source willing to try to procure for us A BERNIE.

Here’s Lisa's story:

The first I knew of any scavenger hunt for Bernie Brewer lawn ornaments was when you asked if I would try to get one for Cheri. I looked online (maybe a week before the event)….1400 left in parks in southeaster Wisconsin, some with prizes, the hunt starts at 5am. I didn’t hear any other advertisements, none of my friends knew about it. So I put it on my calendar to skip yoga and bike thru BayView Park (across the street from my house) and see if I get lucky. (that is a real friend who will skip yogo to locate a Bernie for you)

4:30 am…and it’s 45 degrees outside. My enthusiasm is significantly diminished. But I get online to see if there’s chatter. Turns out the scavenger hunt is part of a bigger “Where’s Bernie?” promotion. Bernie has been missing from the Brewer’s stadium for a couple weeks and he’s been communicating with his fans via Twitter. So I follow him on Twitter and find he has posted clues to which parks the statues are hidden in. The only one that I think I can figure out is called South Shore Park and that’s just a couple miles away.

So I decide to trade in the bike for the car and head to South Shore Park. There was only one other car in the lot and a couple of people walking. The sun was coming up over Lake Michigan as I walked around the pavilion, checked in the jungle gym equipment, looked by the art installations….nothing. Now there’s a few more people and I think they are looking for Bernie’s too but they are far enough away from me to make it difficult to strike up a conversation.

While I’m looking, I’m wondering what I’m looking for. Are they out in plain sight? Hidden in garbage cans or in trees? In boxes or bags?

I drove around the perimeter of the park looking for anything out of the ordinary and then I headed home. (drat....)

Turns out over-zealous lawn ornament aficionados started before the 5am official start time and took more than one. OH, the shame!

I Am Stacked with Indecision

I knew one day this would happen. One day someone would find an example of a little yard art item that I have been watching develop as a craft for some time. Part of me loves it. What is not to love: it is full of color, it is recycling (or re-purposing). It would be a lovely feature in a small grotto in your perfectly maintain landscaping. (This is not my house but some of my readers have these types of yards so I know they exist).

On the other hand... it is a stack of dishes not unlike the morning after a party where I did not feel like cleaning up the night before.

Two or three nights ago about dark, right before we closed the blinds my husband said "What is that?" pointing across the street to the neighbor's yard. "It a light and it keeps changing colors." I take a gander and recognize it as some sort of solar LED yard art and ID'd it for him. This is not a yard with any "art" in fact I haven't even seen the the little glow thing in daylight it is so unobtrusive.

Tonight we were sitting on the front porch and we hear the neighbor come out with her teenage son and say, " I'll have to get my camera" well didn't think much about it, but then I see camera flashes going off constantly in the yard, you'd think Prince William and Kate were over there. I sit up and take a closer look and I could see the screen of her camera glowing and realized she was taking a picture of the light changing orb everytime it changed colors. HA, so if you get a pictures of a multi-colored orb sent in, that was my across the street neighbor reporting on her own LED crystal ball thingy. I don't really have a good thing to call it - maybe LED hillbilly ball? I'd go take some pictures myself but these people are always home and they have a loud Labrador retriever, not scary just loud.

I have not seen a report of a glowing Hillbilly ball but I would like to refresh your memory of a piece of my collection (and former give-a-away) which has the same effect to help you visualize:
