What is our own Brain's Knowledge Model?

What are our inner cognitive illusions ?

Could our brain, like your eyes, focus on uninterested points of Knowledge ?

Could we detect ourself our own internal pitfalls ?

Think about it by watching all these videos done by "The invisible Gorilla".

Here is a new example of how changing representation can help and bring better comprehension of all problems. All ! See this example on traffic Jam. Provided by FlowingData. Take a look at the examples and imagine what could be the traffic representation of Lisbon with the Madrid model?

A piano interface

Have you ever dreamed to get a Jellyfish rather than a Mouse on your desktop ?

If yes, you have now the chance to do so. Or almost. At least, not yet !

Congratulations to Erik CAMPBELL !

He came with the idea of replacing the mouse and/or (?) the keyboard with a new concepf of interface.

Inspired by Mother Nature, and her girly Jellyfish, he developed a concept of new device.

Erik CAMPBELL imagined this interface in the purpose of using the chord theory which is that if you press a certain digit with a certain digit together, it forms one word. This is clearly a model of communication and interface.

If we use a Piano Model, we notice the differences between the two models. In the chord theory you need two buttons to make a word, let's say a signal. In the piano, you only need one button on the keyboard to make a signal, a souind, a note. But if you use in the same time several buttons, you can make a (bad or nice) chord. If we apply this to Computer interface, it means that we could use the Jellysfish for other things than typing letters of words.

Now, if we develop the use of the piano interface, let's suppose we assign to each of the five buttons a specific function like :

streching : touch number 1

shrinking : touch number 2

rotating : touch number 3

inversing : touc number 4

cutting : touch number 5

and that combinations of several touches give new functions like : 1+2 = zoom in; 1+3 = zoom out. etc, we could get an interface, adpatative to any kind of softwares like in the field of Imaging (Blender, Photoshop, Gimp etc ...) which would push far way the productivity and ........... the pleasure of creation. We could mix several springs of informations like eyes, hand, ears (following actions done on screen) with a better and/or new sense of control and feeling.

Specific softwares or specific interfaces would be done on the base of the Jellyfish potential. By expanding controls over softwares, we will push the conception of these softwares further. Then, this will give birth to new tools with new abilities wich in return will give new softwares/interfaces which again etc...

And why not give 2 (Two) Jellyfishes to the same person. Like for piano, right hand for the "melody", left hand for "rhythmics" ?

I am not saying that these interfaces will be used every hour by "Jo-in-the-street" (I am one of them) but they could be use in "professional" context on specific softwares like CAD softwares or statistic softwares (Like SAS' products). These tools could mark the difference between house use and work use. On a social point of view, these differences have disappear in terms of equipment and use. PC equipment is even better in most houses than in some companies. But the arrival of such tool could recreate a difference which existed between "House " and "Factories". This is not the point of this article but such event could happen. Only if the price of the device is place in upper-class targeting.

So now back to the main purpose of this article. Developing and imagining the use of the Jellyfish in the Logosphere.

On device would be great. Two interesting for that piano model. But even better, we can now imagine to get several persons using 1 or 2 devices in the same time, in the same software and upon the same "object" or file. This could be done in local network with ghosted icons or shapes symbolizing on screen the use of other Jellyfishes devices. These people would work in real time on a CAD Shape or an Excel ® Budget. Or on a video, an animation, a map, a Knowledge "object", many things we can not name as that we are dealing with computers is not only limited by calculating power but by interface relations.

And with the power of Internet, we could make all over the world a gigantic collaboration of several persons, dozens, hundreds, thousands, working in the same time on the same "material" with instant collaboration and communication. We would have unleashed the amazing power of Collective Knowledge through the whole world at any time of the day.

This is why we are just at the dawn of global and new evolution. The Human touch is back ! It was dramatically limited to keyboards and mouses, forgetting all the potential of "painters" and "sculptors". In the near future, all of these "touches" are going to be present in our softwares and devices, opening a new use of our hardwares.

Welcome in this new era !

So we will make a presentation by the example of a spatial illusion and then we'll see the link with the concept of cognitive models.

Which geometric figure:
- Pink lines are the largest and shortest ?
- Ditto for the blue lines ?

Take time to think before they see the answer below.

The answer is:

If you're familiar with such tests so if you have in mind the model answers and questions, you can guess the correct answer merely by structuring questions

However this is not the obectif of the year is devoted to spatial illusions.

The correct answer is that in all the figures, I say and write well, in all the figures, the pink lines are the same length and also the black lines. Admit that if you play the game you tend to say spontaneously: The C lines for the largest Roses and A for the blue lines. And yet all the same.

Who is guilty? Yourself! Or rather your brain that visually represents these figures with lines with lengths apparraissant as unequal. The brain is not able to stretch in its visual representation, in 2D, the horizontal as it does for the diagonals. Why?There is no answer at this time . But it will come one day. In the meantime we did with it.

2 Other examples of this problem:

The first is directly linked what we have seen. The brain, according to certain lines of views, is represented poorly, the lengths. Here the paper is not uniformly the same height. At least it seems ....

The second, even more impressive, is based on the perception of color.

The perceived color of a room ..... after changing the colors that surround this form!

So if we maintain the assumption that our brain works on the basis of models for spatial representations for X or Y reasons to be confirmed (economy of means, time, complexity ...), it's a safe bet that it does the same for "intellectual" representations ie the model reflected the life and the environment that surrounds him.

It may therefore use the same types of errors. So the spatial illusions, or colors, allowing if the hypothesis is validated, or if you accept it simply as labor agreement, saying that in the representations of "models" in the broad sense used by our brain "How to recognize a good product? "," what should we do in this situation? ", etc. etc. errors representation exist. There is also the equivalent of spatial distortions, cognitive lesdistorsions.

The equivalent would be to see the representation of a cognitive model the importance of an increased or decreased compared to its "true" position. Example: if my cognitive model considers that proper nutrition is the presence of the piece, I will focaiser on its presence by increasing its virtues and ignoring negative points contained in other parts of the product sold.We do not see the model without filter distortion. It is on the creation of these filters or cognitive illusions that certain steps of propaganda or disinformation, advertising or marketing play!

To recall, the models are not explanatory. They are predictive and representative of the situation observed. It is found that it works like this and one suspects that everything is organized so and so with this or that element linked by such and such type of relationship. Elements and relations with each of the properties with features. Thus, when the explanatory model of spatial illusions said after finding that there is a problem of proportionality of representation in the brain between the horizontal and diagonal lines, it does not explain the problem but he uses it, the marker and integrates into the cognitive model.

Thus the existence of spatial illusions and practice leads, or should lead us to consider with more attention, our cognitive models. As you know a model can have different type of representation of several geometry types. And the existence of geometric illusion leads us to consider both the problems of representation of a model but also its construction. Do I give the good characteristics of this component of this model? Is what I see with the right "size," good "measure" in my model?Exactly the same problem that s ejoue in the "reconstruction" in the brain of these parallelograms. The red and blue lines are present. They are actually the same size in the 3 geometric but my brain does not perceive them as they should.

And because this error is possible at any moment in the creation or use of a model approach that we need a colective creation of Connaiussance. And it is this approach, among others, that we offer Alpharis. Without it, the "illusions" are still present ....

Illustrations:

In this Powerpoint presentation, in French for the moment,

{edocs}content/Modelisation-Modeles.ppt,640,480{/edocs}

the main principles of modeling of models are brushed and described.

How SAS is conducting its Management style ?

What are its good practices ?
Could we build a representation of its Management Model ?

Here is a simplified modelisation conducted with a mind mapping tool.
