Clay was a positive energy unto himself.  He saw goodness in every person and had a gift for bringing out every persons best.  With a passion for helping others succeed, he defined the word mentor.

He was hopelessly in love with his wife Lisa, and two sons Tucker and Parker.  He talked of them always , and with such joy.

Clay’s love for his family knew no boundaries.  His family was his heart and soul, and we offer our hearts, deepest sympathy, and love.  We are so sorry for your devastating loss.

We are all so very lucky for having know Clay, and are better people for it.  We will miss his passion for skiing; persuit of adventure; and ever present happiness.  Most of all, we will miss our friend.

Alpine hosted many great events this season, and we look forward to having you all participate next winter.  The Lil’ Air Festival was a huge hit by all who attended.  And the best part, all of the young up-and-coming athletes were winners! 

  

 

 

And my favorite event, and if you attended, I bet it was yours, too!  I’m talking about the Moonrise & Sunset Passholder Celebration.  Hundreds of our dedicated passholders from Alpine and Homewood attended this first ever, moonrise celebration at the top of Roundhouse chair.  Our skiers and riders were greeted with hot chocolate and marshmallows with a raging ‘warming’ fire.  If you were not lucky enough to attend, just check out the video.

These were just some of the fun events hosted this season at Alpine.  There were many great events; however, these events really made an impression on me, and if you were here, even for one of them, I guarantee your anticipating next season’s line-up.  From me and the entire staff at Alpine, thank you for a great season and we look forward to seeing you in the winter 08|09 season.  And, as always, check our website SkiAlpine.com for the latest and greatest offerings for this summer and next ski season.

From now through the end of the season, May 4, Summit 6 is the main transport offering access to over 2000 acres of amazing terrain.  From hike to bowls, fast groomers, and a Sun Deck to enjoy that apres beverage of your choice.

The Tigel Terrain Park was ROCKING Saturday for the Sick & Twisted Lil’ Air Festival. Jonas, our Terrain Park Manager, built up a special kicker just for the kids. The first annual Lil’ Air Mountain Festival was made possible thanks to Toyota, Under Armour Performance, SnowBomb, Alpine Meadows, Roxy Snow, Huck Doll and Zola Acai. Kids 10 years old and younger had their own day on the park. Competition was stiff and everyone has a blast!

The event kicked off @ 11:30 and the kids were flying everywhere! These little guys and girls are amazing! We saw all the tricks: 180s, 360’s, some spread eagles and a few yard sales. Those kids are made of rubber. They all bounced back and had a great time.
After sessioning the kicker for about an hour, the kids took two runs for the crowds. Then we had to drag them into the lodge so we could give them their awards. Everyone was a winner at this year’s Lil’ Air, with all 52 contestants awarded a Huck Doll and Alpine Meadows Hooded Sweatshirt. In addition, a random drawing was held to award more than $1,000 worth of gear from Roxy Snow and Huck Doll.

Thanks to all the families who came out! We can’t wait to see you @ Big Air next year!!!

Without a doubt, Alpine’s pass holders are some of the coolest people on the planet. Multi-decade friends and new faces alike were out for the Sunset/Moonrise Mountaintop Celebration this past Saturday evening, April 19. And party we did; first atop the Roundhouse chair, complete with a warming fire big enough to build the world’s largest ball of marshmallow goo.

Gale-force winds? No matter. Snow flurries honing in? Perfect. Just the type of weather to summon hardy folks to a twilight ski party.

Tony the Alpenhorn player belted out tunes while kids flung marshmallows aflame; adults did the I’m-chilly-but-this-is fun jig while sipping various elixirs from eclectic containers of every size and shape; and Alpine patrollers Karl and Pete discussed and justified making the fire bigger every 10 minutes.

And then it happened: the moon rose over Lake Tahoe. And we howled.

The ski run down to dinner in the lodge took on the feel of a living, breathing, moving party (it takes some talent to balance the King of Beers while snowboarding), indicative of the evening’s festive camaraderie.

From everyone at Alpine to the all of Saturday’s (and every day’s) guests-of-honor, our hats are off and our glasses are raised. Thank you all for your support, your style, and your never-ending love of skiing, snowboarding, and this great mountain we all consider our second home.

Looking out the office window today, I started thinking to myself, where are all the skiers/riders today? I mean, we have 10 feet of snow! Yes, that’s right, I said 10 feet of snow!!

I know what you are thinking, it has not snowed in days and the snow is melting; rocks rearing their ugly heads to the surface; burned out runs and the fear of trashing your ski gear. But, did you read the second sentence…10 feet of snow!

And the corn snow! Don’t get me going on the corn snow. Have you ever skied corn? I mean really good corn snow! Especially the corn which grows at Alpine Meadows. Let me tell you, it doesn’t get any better than this. Look, I’m a powder hound and love dippin’ the knee on a fat pow day. But, corn snow can be just as good if not better than a pow day. You hit the corn just right, after it has been harvested and…wow!

How is said corn found and harvested you ask…well, that’s easy! At Alpine Meadows all one has to do is just follow the sun. yeah, it’s that easy, follow the slopes that are radiated by the sun first and you will see a transformation like no other. After you have attacked the slopes, the quads burning and found all of the corn on the hill, now it’s time to relax on Alpine’s famous Sun Deck and re-charge with an apres beer.

The event was a “big air” format in which competitors hucked a custom-built step-down jump at the bottom of Alpine’s terrain park while performing some of the sports’ latest tricks. Local and regional pros and amateurs of all ages of men’s and women’s ski and snowboard classes were included. The event’s venue was the Kangaroo lift, adjacent to the base lodge.

Each competitor received an hour of practice; competitors were scored on the best of two runs by official judges. Winners determined by amount of air achieved, style, trick difficulty, and, of course, whether or not the competitor sticks the trick!
