I'm not deaf, but I'm a big reddit fan. I used to not be able to catch reddit videos at work because of sound. This is a neat concept: http://www.22frames.com/community.aspx?s=2

I think Google will use it's news service rather than the user generate content to develop it's realtime search abilities.
Here is an article about realtime search that underlines a link between the click rate and real time search results.

Great comment Frank. Totally agree. We are always evolving the customer experience at Roost to try to make it more intuitive and compelling. I would love to hear any specific ideas you have to help us get there. And while I think we do a pretty good job - that work is never done. Feel free to contact me via help@roost.com - I'd love to pick your brain!

Hey Larry,
I liked your article. I was wondering if you could help me out since you know so much about ESL/EFL.
I want to start my own website to connect ESL teachers with ESL students. I’m trying to research who the typical profile is of someone who wants to learn ESL online through software like Skype. What countries are these types of ESL students typically from? Are they usually students or are they hobbyists or business people? Why would they choose to learn on the web through Skype instead of going and learning in a classroom?
Keep writing your informative blogs! I’m a big fan.
Best regards,
Nat-

Larry,

I'm surprised you didn't include video sites in your list. Captioned/subtitled videos offer a very multimedia approach to learning English. I have found that Youtube translations, for example, is good advice to give English learners. They can see the words in English and a relatively decent translation to numerous languages. Further, you get to pick a field of topics on which to watch videos. Even going further (yet lesser known) is 22frames ( http://www.22frames.com/ ). You can read about how they are trying to index all captioned/subtitles on the Internet regardless of the host. That's how I even found out about the site yappr, which is also good ( http://en.yappr.com/welcome/Welcome.action ).

Anyhow, just my thoughts for next year I guess.
