Home Window Tinting

I hear this everyday from customers in my showroom “You mean I can tint my house”. It is amazing to me how many people do not realize they can have their home tinted, just like they do their cars.

We have actually been tinting homes for the last five years, and now have a separate division called SmartView Window Solutions. SmartView specializes in home and business window film applications, and we will soon be offering roller shades for some solutions.

Home window tint is different from automotive film, and has a totally different color, and look. Home window film is more natural, matches brick and window frame colors, and will not take away from the “curb appeal” of any home. You can actually drive by most of the houses we have done, and not even tell they have been tinted.

Here is a list of the most common reasons we hear why people tint their homes.

Reduce how much heat is actually coming in, especially for east, west , and south facing windows.
Reduce glare and reflection on TV’s, computer monitors, and pictures.
Reduce UV rays that damage drapes, furniture, wood work, and flooring.
Improve the view looking out by filtering the amount of light that is coming in.

Some customers just have one window that needs done, some have a whole room, and some even want to do the entire house. We are willing do whatever you need.

The material and installation are priced by the square foot. Prices range from $5.00 – $9.00. Small windows are done on a flat rate system. If not, just call with your window measurements and we will give you a “rough” estimate over the phone.

Keep the Heat of Summer Out of Your Car

Heat buildup in a car occurs when the heat rays get “trapped” inside the car, and cannot escape.

During the summer months, your car will heat up very quickly when parked. Heat rays coming in through the windows is absorbed by the interior, and the glass acts as an insulator. The temperature inside your car can get up to 200 degrees, depending on the temperature outside, the kind of vehicle you have, and how long it has been in the sun.

Here are a few ways to drastically help keep your car cooler.

Have your windows professionally tinted, whether you use a dark non metallic, or a light ceramic material depending on your preference, either way you can reduce the amount of heat coming in by 60%, and lower the interior temperature by 30 or more degrees.
Install a sunshade on the front windshield. We recommend a sunshade that covers the entire windshield. These devices will decrease the amount of heat coming in your front window by almost 80%.
Weather permitting, crack your windows, or your sunroof one inch for ventilation. As the heat travels up, this will allow it to “escape” on it’s own.
Try to park somewhere that your car can be shaded for the majority of the afternoon. Since outside temperatures rise drastically after noon, make sure you can find shade for the last half of the day.
Have a remote start professionally installed. These devices are thought of more in the winter, but are just as beneficial in the summer. When you park, set your a/c controls to max / cold, and start your vehicle a few minutes before you leave. Getting just five minutes of conditioned air moving inside your interior will make a big difference when you arrive at your car.

Why would I choose ceramic window tint?

I want to answer a question I am asked all the time… Why would I choose ceramic window tint?

As many of you know, I have been in the window tinting business for over 25 years, and there has always been that one stigma – TINT WILL MAKE MY WINDOWS TO DARK.

With the introduction of Ceramic window films it has allowed my customers who normally would not tint their windows due to the fear of vision problems, and the one’s who say “I just don’t like the look of tinted windows” to now get their car tinted, and recieve all the benefits of tint without darkening the glass.

I would not say, it outperforms metallic and non metallic films, but it does allow all the benefits while maintaining a clearer view.

Keep in mind, ceramic is not for everyone. If you like darker windows for privacy, & looks, this material is just not for you.

What the ceramic material really does, is gives you as much heat reduction as ultra dark or “limo” tint, without really changing the look or shade of your windows. This can make your vehicle safer for kids and pets.

It’s a little bit more expensive, but if you need it, it’s worth it.

One Hour Installation Time

I know its been awhile since my last topic, but with this heat, business has been crazy. Ok, I would like to spend a minute answering the second most popular question we hear regarding window tint which is “how long does it take”. Most window tinting shops will tell you they want your car for a few hours, if not all day. This can create a real problem with today’s hectic schedules. Here at our Alta Mere we have customized the installation process to where most window tint installations are done in under one hour.

Years ago the biggest complaint we use to get regarding window tint was how long it took to do. We even talked to customers who said they would love to tint their car, the price was fine, they just could not find the time to drop it off, get a ride, and then have to come back and pick it up. So, I decided something needed to be done to get customers in & out quickly, and one hour seemed to be the ticket. Seems like everyone can find one hour in their day to get their tint done.

I know it’s hard to believe that it can be done so quickly, and still be a great job. Keep in mind we have been doing this for over 25 years and have perfected the art of the installation.

Why use a GPS?

Ok let’s talk about Tracking Units (GPS). Most people ask me when I mention tracking devices “why do I need one, I don’t have a fleet of vehicles”. My answer is always the same. “do you have people you care about” if so, you could use a GPS.

With todays devices you can track a vehicles exact location & current speed, you can be notified the minute a vehicle is moved, reaches a certain speed (and know where it is), and also be notified if it gets near a certain location. It can even notify you if the car goes outside a pre-determined area. All this right from your SmartPhone, no computer needed.

Think about that teen driver who just started driving and as worried parents its a great piece of mind knowing where the car is, and how fast it’s going. How about an elderly parent who sometimes just takes off in their car, and everyone is worried until they arrive at their destination. There was a silver alert put out just last night, and the gentleman left in his car, never arriving where he was suppose to go. Last but not least, what about that spouse that maybe you just aren’t sure if they are where they are suppose to be. Whatever the reason, every family can use a device. They can also be moved between cars easily.

With today’s pricing, tracking units are very affordable. Hardware & installation starts out at about $299.00, and annual subscriptions start at $69.00 per year. Call or come by and we can discuss these units in more detail.
