When I started this blog back in 2007, there was no such thing as the fashion world using twitter, using instagram, using Tumblr.

That's all changed for me and it's all changed for the modeling world too. Previous to the internet, models received their booking value through Runway, Campaigns, and Editorials. Now, models get their booking value through Social Media, which combines their street style presence via Social Media with their own social media channels like twitter, instagram, and Tumblr.

Even Supermodel Karolina Kurkova recently exhorted models, "It is no longer enough to just look beautiful and be in great shape. You need to be interesting." The fact of the matter is, as bloggers can now create their own booking value via developing online presence, so models can create their own booking value too. This translates into more money.

Trey Laird, Creative Director for Laird & Partners, the advertising agency which represents Juicy Couture (cha-ching, Steven Meisel shoots for them for a reason) confirms Kurkova's exhortation in financial terms “It’s not just enough to cast such-and-such a girl that opened Prada or Vuitton or whatever,” . “It’s a huge help if a girl already has a platform and followers, and Kate Upton is a great example of that.”

Recently Cara Delevingne (pronounced Dela-veen) won the British Fashion Awards Model of the Year for 2012. According to the Daily Mail quote, "Cara’s unique sense of style and flair in front of the camera has made her one of the most prominent names in fashion" Given what I know of Cara's Off Duty charisma (as even seen in these pictures) I have a hard time believing they were minimizing "unique sense of style and flair" to just her On Duty personae. Go Cara!

Andie Arthur (Ford, NY) should definitely walk the 2013 Victoria's Secret show. Here's why:

1. No one from FORD models walked the 2012 show.

2. Andie will be 18

3. Andie knows how to "sell the sizzle". By that I mean, just look at all her street style pictures. She always projects an amazing energy and charisma, which would translate to the runway and catalog, just the kind of personae Victoria's Secret needs representing it's legacy of entertaining Top Models. If she knows how to be "on stage" while Off Duty, she'll definitely know how to be "on stage" while On Duty (on the runway or TV interviews etc).

4. Andie is Social Media savvy. Not only do her Twitter and Instagram handles match, but interacts with her followers, connecting with them and giving them something to relate to.

One of the highlights of being a professional model who achieves public prominence is the ability to build your brand beyond the limits of the modeling industry, something the former supermodels of Old where experts at. Not only will Jourdan presumably make more money as a result of her show, she will also establish her name beyond the confinces of the fashion bubble and thus increase her booking value even more because her name will extend beyond into other industries as well. Jourdan's show is a classic example to the up and coming model who wants to use her modeling profession to achieve more than what the limited world of modeling can accomplish. Kudos Jourdan! Edie Campbell (DNA, NY) proves she is a force to be reckoned with and a spirited survivor of any test this world can throw at her. If you hadn't already known, Edie was succumbed to death threats delivered to her via her twitter account which you can read about HERE in the Telegraph UK arcticle. Apparently, after a shoot with Harry Styles, fanatical fans issued death threats via twitter threatening Edie's life if she were to ever go near Harry again. Granted, these threats were text words and could've have been just empty threats. Nevertheless, when it comes to one who is a public figure, death threats shouldn't be treated lightly. Yet despite these death threats, she has since reinstated her twitter account. She is forging ahead bravely and courageously, a real role model to the entire world that when death comes knocking at your door, you don't have to run, just face it squarely in the eye.

Last night at the W Hotel Union Square, the American Foundation For Aids Research--better known as amfAR--held a gala in support of Aids Research leading up to the World AIDS Day on December 1st.

Fashion's A list showed up in droves, not only to enjoy festivities that W Hotel charitably contributed to, but to participate in presenting and judging the performance events of the evening. Lead by the Hostess with the Mostess, Kelly Osbourne, performers gyrated and moved in ways that would make Olympic Atheletes drool.

There were 5 seperate contests on the runway, from which the judge panel consisting of Fergie, Mickey Boardman, and Edward Enninful to name a few voted for their favorites on a 10 point scale system.

When winners were selected, presenters from fashion's A-list gave a W-plaque to the winner. Jason Wu, Zac Posen, and even Bryan Boy presented winners with their awards.

After the contest was over, visitors headed to W's basement bar to finish the night with an amazing after party. However, the most important message of the evening was not so much about having fun for the sake of fun, but having fun for the sake of AIDS research, fueled by amfAR.
