Kitbashing - Metal Club Red Astray wtih Daban Flight Pack... ...

2020-08-01T10:10:00.000+08:00

The hunt for Metal Build Red Astray that was released in 2016 has led me to search all available sources for it. I thought I hit the jackpot when I saw a bootleg version of Metal Build known as Metal Club and placed my order. To my dismay, the seller decided to pull the product off the shelf and cancelled my order. Then the search went on and I found Metal Club Red Astray but it is without the flight pack.

However, it looks kind of bare without the flight pack and so, I wasn't satisfied and continued the search but to no avail. Even if there are stocks of Metal Club Red Astray with flight pack around, the asking price is close to what I would have paid for a Metal Build and I refuse to do so.

I finally gave in and ordered Daban Red Astray with flight pack as Daban had first started with this copy of the Metal Build version before the 8814 Red Astray with Powered Red & Gerbera Straight.

When the order arrived, I realised the size of the packaging was incorrect and confronted the seller who told me that I had not read the listing properly and the red frame is not included. Even so, it is the wrong flight pack and frankly, I would have 'suck thumb' and accepted the item if the flight pack is the correct one. The Metal Build version is designed by Akatsu Junichi and has a very distinct look.

Good thing, there is a return policy and I ordered another one which was more expensive but at least it's the right one.

Then came the usual process of building the kit and this time, I just needed the flight pack. This is Daban's earlier model kit and so it is a direct copy of what Bandai would offer in terms of packaging and the inclusion of the instruction manual. The picture of the Red Frame on the packaging is Metal Build and definitely looks better.

My suspicion earlier when building 8814 that some runners are reproduction from this set is confirmed when I found most of the flight pack parts on the 8814 runners. To achieve the metallic look of the diecast parts used in Metal Build, the silver paint pen is the solution and I also panel-lined it although the Metal Build one would not have that detail.

After a few hours of work, the flight pack is done.

Generous articulations are provided and the pack could be folded when not in flight mode.

This being the earlier production, Daban did not pay attention to details such as orientation and therefore all 'ORB' pieces seen here are right sided.

Good thing that the previous decal purchased for 8814 included water-slide for the flight pack and the decals are with slightly more details compared to the Metal Build version. The final complete item looks legit enough but keen eyes would spot the differences.

The connector of the flight pack to Red Astray is a tad too small and the use of super glue to thicken the connector solved the issue. I have also replaced the original Gerbera Straight with the one from the kit and of course, Tiger Pierce would be paired too.

I am very impressed with the outcome of the final product. It's now customised with two shields and two blasters and it looks simply awesome!

By the way, Tamashi recently released Gundam Astray Red Frame Kai (Alternative Strike Ver.) and I'm glad I bought it. No need to search for bootleg again.

Daban 8814 Red Astray with Powered Red & Gerbera Straight Kit Build Part 3... ...

2020-06-27T00:35:00.000+08:00

Finale of the build...

Day 7 and Day 8 were spent on panel lining and applying the water slide stickers.

I had purchased the water slide from a third party source. Interestingly all the products and the review of this kit are mostly done in Chinese. I followed as closely to what I find online and realised some mistakes along the way. However, I could rectify them since I had the water slide provided by Daban as back up.

I didn't manage to buy thinner in time for this build to perfect the panel lining and had wanted to give up doing so when I realised I could use Mr Mark Softer. Surprisingly, it works like magic!

After all the labeling and panel lining done, I present you Red Astray with Powered Red & Gerbera Straight. 8 days of work and I think it's worth the effort.

I decided to strengthen the ball joint on the feet and took the risk of pulling everything apart. To make the ball joint tighter, the trick is to apply a layer of super glue around the joints.

Back to the "I present Red Astray ... ..."

This is where the mistake on the label on the knee guard is done wrongly. I will later scrape it away and apply the right ones. Great thing I have spares from the set provided from the kit but it wouldn't have the 'Astray Red Frame' written on it.

Time for Red Astray to hold Gerbera Straight.

Below, beam mode of the Gerbera Straight.

This requires all the panels on Gerbera Straight to be opened and a handle is revealed.

The turbines on the elbows and wrists can be pulled out.

With everything slapped on Red Astray, the display stand is required to hold it up as the legs just buckled under the weight of Powered Red. The missing piece on the arm weapon is put on this time.

There is absolutely no instructions on how to put the stand together and I really took some time to figured that out.

This is really a magnificent piece to be displayed and I really did not regret spending the time and effort on it.

Below, the mistakes on the knee guard labels corrected.

Daban 8814 Red Astray with Powered Red & Gerbera Straight Kit Build Part 2... ...

2020-06-27T00:02:00.000+08:00

Continuing from the earlier post.

More problems with the diagram being inaccurate and I have to put out the parts to correct it. I have broken some parts having to do that a couple of times and glue is my best friend when that happens. Good thing that I have a drill set handy too.

Another example above that the suggested build sequence may not make sense. I had to open up the snapped in parts as the thrusters would not snap in.

Day 5 and it's time to start on the Powered Red and Gerbera Straight.

The part above was already broken when on the runner. Good thing there is glue.

Another issue that the parts would not snap together other than the gate extensions would be simply oversized parts.

So, the trick is to shave off some of the parts and the fitting is better.

Part of the Powered Red completed.

Day 6 and building continues...

The fingers of the Powered Red has individual articulation but the white rubber-like parts are so badly moulded, steady hands are needed to trim off the runoffs.

The hands are finally cleaned and that took a really long time.

Powered Red is finally done and fitting is done on Astray. The original arms can be removed to have Astray using the Powered Red. The arm weapon seen below is part of the Tsuba of Gerbera Straight. There are actually missing parts and I'm amazed that it held on well.

Given that this is a model kit, it is rather impressive that the legs could take the weight of Powered Red.

All right, let's get to the Gerbera Straight. This a huge Tsuka with a broken Shinogi and I do hope some third party would produce the entire Shinogi and it would be great display piece.

The Tsuka is made up of many parts as it has moving parts when Astray use it as a beam weapon or simply as a katana.

The Tsuba and the Habaki completed. Connect the broken Shinogi and it's complete.

The Kashira is made up of many parts and I am really impressed with Daban's effort for details.

So, the Gerbera Straight is one of two katanas Red Astray has. However, only the Kai version sees Red Astray with the Tiger Pierce as a second katana. Above the Tsuba and Tsuka. Below, the Kashira.

Interesting, the names of the katanas are inscribed on the Nakago and the Mei (signature) is engraved (Horimono). The above, Gerbera Straight and below, Tiger Pierce.

Once the Nakago is inserted into the Tsuka, you wouldn't be able to tell which is what unless you pull it out. Good thing is that the Saya has the labels to differentiate the two.

The instructions for all the weapon parts are probably based on an older set and what is in the manual does not tally with the runner numbers.

I mentioned the use of a drill and below is what I used it for to reinforce the thigh by lengthening it with a nail inserted.

I had also drilled a hole in the thigh so the nail could be inserted.

Daban 8814 Red Astray with Powered Red & Gerbera Straight Kit Build Part 1... ...

2020-06-26T23:15:00.001+08:00

I was introduced to this only recently when Youtube surfing. This is a bootleg product of the 2017 Metal Build version which I did not know of at all. I would have purchased it and not go through the torture of building this kit. This is at 1/100 scale and it's equivalent to Bandai's Master Grade.

Daban supposedly had been sued by Bandai in 2018 and had an injunction to stop it from producing any more Gundam kits. However, Daban products are still widely available online. Prices varied and you need to be discerning about where and what you buy. This model's first run had wrong colour issue with the parts on the Powered Red arms and I had to make sure I get the right ones before making the purchase.

Then when the box arrived, the next thing is to make sure is all the runners are there before opening them. Once opened, no refunds would be entertained and I had to keep my fingers crossed.

The packaging as seen above is an unassuming huge box and there is no instruction manual which you need to source for it online. A water slide sticker sheet is provided but it's not complete if you like the kit to look authentic.

First is to print and get the instruction manual ready and it's time to start work. I took about 2 to 3 hours each day and I completed the kit in 8 days. Daban kits are not as well-made as Bandai and lots of skills, patience and tools are needed to get this done well. There are also issues with the accuracy of the instructions and also some parts have no instructions and you will just have to figure your way out.

However, I have to say that Daban is more generous in the use of multiple colours in a single runner and that would drive up the production cost.

It's been a while since I last build a MG and couldn't remember if there are so many small parts. When I say small, they are really tiny. I think Daban took the effort to produce separate colour pieces which I appreciated but fixing them can take a toll on the eye and fingers. Have the right tools for this kit is my advice.

The finished Head which looks pretty good.

I mentioned for this kit, skills, patience and tools are needed as there seems to be more work needed. Notice the part above (on the right) that there is an extension of the gate which needs to be cut. I have cut the one on the left (with the nub mark).

Another issue I mentioned is inaccurate instruction which is seen above, It's mentioned 9 while on the runner is 6.

Day 2 and the upper torso is completed.

An example that the gate extension will give problem is seen above. Unless that is cut, the pieces would not snap together seamlessly.

An example of detailed small coloured parts as seen above. The right front skirt is made up of 4 moulded parts put together.

Above, the number of gate extensions I need to cut and this is just for one part of the kit.

Day 4 and I have completed the Red Astray.

I have coloured the hands but realised the fingers are not entirely white. Will have to do something about it later.

BSL Toys KO Version of Peru Kill aka Lockdown ... ...

2020-05-30T23:07:00.001+08:00

Lockdown, a rouge mercenary transformer wowed the audience with a huge sniper rifle on his head in the Age of Extinction. Hasbro released a couple of Lockdown but nothing can compare with Unique Toys's Peru Kill. The name given by Unique Toys had me to believe Lockdown killed Ratchet in Peru. No, that was Mexico City.

Anyway, let's move on to today's star, Lockdown with Steeljaws. However, this is not from Unique Toys (UT) as they are completely out of stock. However, there are 2 other knock-off versions from two other toy companies; namely BSL and Visual Toys (VT). Did a bit of research online and BSL's version is closer to UT while VT's version is the cheapest.

The packaging came badly bashed up and to my surprise, there is no packaging. The other box contains two Steeljaws.

Slide out the tray and there is one more Steeljaw packed with Lockdown.

Everything you see in the packaging as above.

I remembered Steeljaws in Lockdown's ship but really, do I need them? Hmm...

Steeljaws came with a couple of articulation which makes them quite unique and poseable but not transformable.

Vehicle mode, Lockdown is a Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 which looks pretty good.

The reason why I had to look for this is how amazing it looks in robo mode. He is very movie accurate. However, I had not complete the transformation with some parts not positioned properly.

Articulation is all right but there is no waist joint.

The head sculpt is very nicely made and you can even see the pupil.

Chest piece is also movie accurate.

The shoulder transformed properly and the wing mirror can be kept here. Definitely looks better than having them on the feet.

Check out the spine details on the back. Wow!

One of the accessories is the blade cum hook weapon.

There are many storage locations on the figure to holster the weapon when not in use. However, I think the weapons just 'transform' out of Lockdown in the movie.

The alternate face plate is provided when Lockdown snipes his prey.

The head rifle completes Lockdown.

The attention to details is just amazing and with space, I really want to keep Lockdown displayed.

He can hold the rifle too but on the head is more movie accurate.

There are also pegs to holster the rifle which wasn't in the movie.

Some more close up shots in vehicle mode.

The disc brakes and rubber tyres are simply a joy to look at.

Well-made it may be, there are some details being overlooked. One is the crack on the windows which could have been smoother. Next is the missing 'mirror' on the wing mirror.

Well, a silver marker will solve the problem. But the moulding gate mark is quite an eyesore.

Maketoys MTCD-01P Striker Manus and MTCD-05SP Buster Stealthwing ... ...

2020-05-24T23:25:00.001+08:00

My patience paid out when Maketoys launched Striker Manus in metallic colour coating and Buster Wing in black. The combined mode is the main reason why I bought them and the review needs to be done together naturally.

This would be my third Maketoys purchase and I have enjoyed the previous releases. However, today, I was a tad disappointed with Striker Manus as it feels very cheapo despite it being a premium figure.

It's paint job isn't exactly breathtaking and it has an issue standing upright. the shoulder joints are also pathetic which limited the poses possible. However, with it's numerous articulation points, it redeemed itself.

The regular weapons that came with Striker Manus are a pair of axe that was part of the smoke stacks and a blaster that was the top in vehicle mode. However, a variety of weapons are provided and based on the instruction manuals to put them together, the weapons seem to be meant for the black version aka Striker Noir. Some assemblies required to put the pieces together.

I attempted to load Striker Manus with as many weapons as possible but not all that are provided can be carried.

The black blaster and the power axe pay homage to Optimus Prime's original weapons.

Above, all the weapons provided and below, let's start to combine Striker Manus and Stealthwing. Steathwing is stripped of its parts that would be used in the combination.

The combined mode is fantastic and with the great selection of weapons coupled with multiple articulation points, this is a figure to be displayed.

Let's take a look at Stealthwing and this is definitely a much better made figure with solid articulation and joints.

Homage to Jetfire, the is the normal face and the masked face.

The katana blades from Striker Manus make excellent weapons for Stealthwing.

Lastly, let's take a look at the vehicle mode.

Stealthwing's vehicle mode looks like the Quinjet from the Avengers. Transformation isn't easy but the vehicle mode really makes this another toy by itself.

The Matrix of Leadership is included in Stealthwing and is placed in the chest of the combined mode.

Wei Jiang Hide Shadow aka Blackout ... ...

2020-05-17T17:20:00.002+08:00

Other than Black Mamba, I have been acquainted to Wei Jiang, another 3rd party making very detailed Transformers figures. I was greatly impressed with what I saw and I had to purchase this upscale Studio Series Blackout.

This is an amazing figure and I really wish I had space to display it instead of going back to the packaging and this is so far the only packaging I am keeping from all the 3rd party purchases so far.

There is a B after product number as this what is termed as Set Meal B. Set Meal B includes the cover below the fuselage.

Wei Jiang's packaging is sturdy and that's the reason why I am keeping it for the time being.

Out of the packaging, Blackout looks magnificently intimidating. It's heavy and it's huge. Really feels like a Masterpiece in my hand.

Loads and loads of details and this is really a great display piece.

Interestingly, Wei Jiang wanted to make Set Meal B more worthwhile and when it's not a fuselage cover, it's a diorama which I find rather redundant. Everything you see is included in the set.

I have to attempt to accomplish the promotional pose on the box. Looks like toys company now likes to pit their skills in achieving toys with good articulation and this pose is a definitive pose to determine that.

The vehicle mode of the MH-53J Pave Low III helicopter is so huge I have to relocate the photo shoot.

Some more details and the tempo prints are in horrible spelling and I don't know how they would be avoiding infringement of copyrights by simply misspelling.

The undercarriage covered up with the Set Meal B cum diorama plate.

The cargo bay opens up but Scorponok isn't deployed this way. It's tucked inside and requires the release of another panel.

Size comparison with the other purchases earlier. Scale wise, they are not to scale but close.

So, if you are to purchase Set Meal A, the internals will be exposed.

While packing up, I realised I had not transformed it correctly and below are some retakes.

Starscream joins in for some height comparison.

I really am enjoying this piece but transforming it can be tedious. Hope to see more of what Wei Jiang has to offer.

Black Mamba Star Adjutant and Corvette Assassin aka Starscream and Sideswipe ... ...

2020-05-17T16:55:00.000+08:00

Following on the previous post, my other Black Mamba purchases arrived.

I was initially just interested in Sideswipe but then the search brought me to see other Decepticons and led to the multiple purchases.

Let's look at Corvette Assassin aka Sideswipe. He transformed into a Corvette Sting Ray Concept.

Interestingly, this is packed differently from Barricade and has a flip out flap.

Robo mode looks great but can't say the same to the articulation.

Loads of details on the legs but too bad, they have very limited range of movements making posing not as fun.

Sometimes, too much details could be an issue and above is an example of how splitting the legs too much would result is severe pain.

The blade on the arms are simply just a peg plugged into the hands. A set of guns are provided too but after inserting the guns, the gap enlarged and the blades starts to rotates rather freely.

Best pose possible is a scene from the movie. Getting it to balance is a chore though.

Black Mamba really puts in efforts and have details that are not exactly needed but greatly appreciated.

Vehicle mode is truly stunning and I really like how the panels just fit into place.

The under carriage with every parts in place.

And now, Starscream which is a upscaled ~~Masterpiece~~ Voyager Class knock off. I thought I don't own any movie Starscream as I do not like the robo mode and was not impressed with how bottom busy it is in vehicle mode. Then I realised I actually reviewed a Leader Class version in 2011.

Articulation in robo mode is generous and many poses are possible.

It comes with all the accessories seen above and the each arm has seven articulation points.

The face sculpt is well made and the vehicle mode of the Raptor F22 is great too.

Black Mamba Bottleneck and Dino-Troops ... ...

2020-05-14T21:38:00.000+08:00

During the circuit breaker period, I have been lured to the dark side and this time it's Black Mamba mayhem!

I was just youtubing and saw reviews on very well made 3rd party transformers and then learned that there's indeed more than meets the eye with what's available out there. Although I have been initiated to this breed 1 or 2 years too late, I was able to find abundance of ready stocks on Taobao.

Today, the package came to the door and I had to open them to ensure they are as legit as what I saw.

Above, we have Bottleneck and below, Dino-troops in combiner mode!

First up, Let's take a look at Bottleneck.

I am very impressed with what I saw when I first opened up Bottleneck aka Barricade. This may be a revised version as the packaging I saw on Youtube has the name Barricade on the packaging.

I have seen what Hasbro and Takaratomy has previously produced and were not impressed. Then I saw the Masterpiece version and wasn't interested. However, this one, based on the price I paid for it, I like!

The mouth opens and closes like the Masterpiece version.

Articulation is very good on this piece and there is quite a fair bit of diecast used. the phrase 合金版 was printed on the box and indeed, it lives up to its claim. 合金版 translated as Alloy Edition.

The vehicle mode is good as well. This is the Ford Mustang Saleen featured in The Last Knight. Everything is similar except for the missing Decepticons emblem like all 3rd party Transformers.

Everything is good until... sigh, Black Mamba did not do as good a job in quality control. The POLICE on the spoiler isn't flushed and so is the registration plate on the back. Well, you win some, you lose some.

Next, let's take a look at Dino-troops aka Volcanicus, a Dinobot combiner.

Although it's stated to be Alloy Edition like Bottleneck above, somehow, I don't quite feel the diecast anywhere. Black Mamba uses actual dinosaur names:

Brachiosaurus - Sludge

T-Rex - Grimlock

Pterosauria - Swoop

Triceratops - Slug

Stegosaurus - Snarl

Frankly at this point, I was rather disappointed with the product and they look and feel cheapo, though I did really pay for very little so I thought I might have gotten a knock-off of knock-offs.

Well, I went ahead to combine Volcanicus first. The process was mainly self discovery as there are no instructions on how to get it done.

The final product changed my opinion of the figure and it looks pretty good. From what I saw on Youtube, Black Mamba's version is bigger than Hasbro's.

The arm articulation gives an illusion of muscle movements as the limbs of Swoop and Slug moved independently.

The front of the figure looks better than the rear of course.

With the photo below, I want to say again:

I finally have all the Dinobots ... ...

This time these are really very G1 lookalike compared to the Michael Bay's version.

Below, let's take a look at all the Dinobots in dino mode.

Then, let's have them in robo mode.

There are hits and misses in terms of the Dinobots. Grimlock looks good in robo mode but dino mode is really bad. Swoop suffers the same fate. Snarl and Sludge are the best in both modes. The worst would be Slug which is bad in both modes.

Ending off with a parting photo of Grimlock and Barricade. This would not be the last of Black Mamba as I await the arrival of the others...

Threezero's Honor of Kings 王者荣耀 1/12 Action FIgures - Zhang Fei 張飛, Zhao Yun 趙雲 and Guan Yu 關羽 ... ...

2020-04-25T19:47:00.007+08:00

王者荣耀 (Wang Zhe Rong Yao) is a multiplayer online battle arena developed by TiMi Studios and published by Tencent Games for the iOS and Android mobile platforms, exclusively for the Chinese market. I don't play the game but am intrigue by the characters in the original 'Romance of the Three Kingdoms, 三國演義' literature. My favorite character is Guan Yu and Zhao Yun which I have 1/6 scale of both figures.

Today, we look at game versions of the characters.

Let's start with my very first Zhang Fei 張飛, figure and for the uninitiated, this is the most handsome and toned looking Zhang Fei. The original character looks less refined than this one here and his predominant color scheme is green. I wouldn't have gotten this if it's modeled after the original version.

It's rare to see a warranty card for a toy and in fact, these from Threezero's has a limited warranty of one year! Amazing!

The 'fur' is great on effect but bad for humid country like Singapore. It's already deteriorating with bits of it flying off every time I brushed them away from Zhang Fei's face.

Now I know how the warranty comes useful and I already encountered a problem with the wires sticking out. Will I claim my warranty and go through the hassle? I think getting the glue is a faster alternative.

Done! Looks all right to me.

As in the game, Zhang Fei has a shield-like weapon that hovers behind him with two dragon heads on both sides. I don't play the game so I don't exactly know the real purpose of this thingy.

A closer look at the floating shield.

Next is Zhao Yun 趙雲 and it is quite the same as the original character.

Lastly is Guan Yu 關羽 and I think this character has been kept to as original as possible and still my favorite.

Guan Yu's figure has to be the most authoritative with warrior-like features; thick brows and huge beard. The attention to details of his costume is also exceptional.

Reliving a fight scene where Guan Yu and Zhao Yun paired up.

Zhang Fei joins in the battle.

On the left side of each figure's box has a four word phrase describing the character. It is rather challenging to translate them as they are not idioms nor are they Chinese sayings. Simply explained:

- Zhang Fei (red) - Insane beast with forbidden blood

- Zhao Yun (blue) - Soaring dragon in desolate sky

- Guan Yu (green) - Lone rider with strengths of millenary

There is also Liu Bei and Zu Ge Liang which I can't quite appreciate. Probably it's the lack of the spears as you can see the Spear brothers above.

Gundam Universe RX-0 Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee ... ...

2020-04-25T16:14:00.001+08:00

It's been a while since I purchased action figure types toys and I gave Bandai's new line, Gundam Universe a try. This line focused on popular Gundams and the Banshee is one such figure missing from my Unicorn collection.

The Banshee is a mobile suit that appears in Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn. It is built alongside the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam, under the Earth Federation's UC Project.

Both the Armed Armor Beam Smart Gun (right arm) and Vibration Nails (left arm) cannot be removed or retracted. Well, couldn't ask for too much for a toy of this price point.

Articulation is generous on this fella and it would work well with any Bandai display stand with the adapter provided (not used in this entry).

Alert! The peg to hold the beam sable's hilt is a tad too thick for the hole in the hilt. I had a bad feeling while inserting it but pushed in as deep as possible regardless. The outcome is a broken peg when I pulled the hilt out of the peg.

No problem to that as I used my usual repair method to rectify the issue. Heat up needle on an open flame and then pierce it through into the severed peg. Remove the needle and applied glue to the needle and plug it back it. Pulled out the needle once the glue cured.

Next is to connect the severed peg back to the backpack. Method is relatively similar to removing the stuck peg.

File down the cut portion and then create a hole. Cut the needle that was used earlier to pull the peg out and apply glue to its end. Push the needle into the hole on the backpack.

Not perfect but it will do as long as I can insert the hilt in and continue with the photo shoot.

The instruction manual should inform about the peg being delicate too. On the contrary the fin on the head is much sturdier.

I should have added both the beams into the hilt above to display the Beam Tonfa.

This is quite a nice display piece and if I hadn't have so many Gundams already, I may collect the whole series.

Hot Toys Neo from The Matrix ... ...

2020-04-21T12:30:00.006+08:00

'He is the One'

1999, the year The Matrix wowed the audience with its intriguing story line and out of this world cinematography. The then Wachowski brothers (sisters now) introduced Bullet Time to the world.

Box art is like a movie poster with a plastic outer shell.

Removing the plastic cover, the box has the matrix raining code design on it. This is the flap type design packaging seen below.

Neo's head and yes, the likeness of Keanu Reeves (pre John Wick days) definitely there. Noticed that Hot Toys want to make sure this is their product seen below. However, it's a little disappointing to see the lack of a neck joint since this is one piece.

Put on the shades and we are back in 1999.

Comparison with and without the sunglasses above and below.

The display base is the tiles seen in the lobby scene during the rescue of Morpheus.

Since Neo is packed with his coat on, I did the dodging bullet pose first and created the bullet time gif seen earlier.

Let's add a little cinematic hue to the following shots.

While taking the photos, I realised that the faux leather has already started to crack and after posing Neo for the shoot, there were more cracks. So, one piece of advice is not to buy a preowned Neo.

Hot Toys packed only two Baretta 92FS when Neo is supposed to have four. Two in the holsters as seen and two slotted into the pants as in the instruction manual.

Let's start the showdown at the Lobby Scene. The props needed would be the bag ~~load of guns which I don't recall Neo or Trinity going to the bag to pick up weapons from there~~ which contains an explosive device which Trinity armed below dropping the lift to the lobby setting off a massive explosion..

Enters Neo into the lobby and puts the bag through a metal scanner and he walks through a metal detector.

The metal detector beeps and the guards asked Neo to empty any keys or coins. Neo shows him what is under his coat.

The guard exclaimed at the sight of the guns and Neo gave him a push before drawing his pair of Heckler & Koch MP5K.

Out of ammo and he threw away the MP5K and reaches for his pair of Barettas.

Overwhelmed by the intense firepower, he discards the Barrettas and out of nowhere, he took out a pair of Yugoslav Model 61 Skorpion.

Then a group of military forces entered the lobby with M16s and Neo discard the Skorpions for greater firepower.

Neo spotted a M16 on the ground and he somersaults to pick it up and started firing at the soldiers.

Most of the enemies killed, he draws his final set of weapons; Micro Uzi and sprayed.

Finally, Neo subdued the final soldier with a flying kick and ~~punch~~ kicked him down. The lobby scene then draws to a close with Neo and Trinity entering the lift; a wall tile falls...

This is a great figure to have but only if you enjoyed Matrix that much and would like to own a piece of Hollywood magic. My first unofficial Neo was reviewed in 2014.

Overall, this figure is definitely a collector's item and I may probably just stop at this One.

Hot Toys War Machine Mark IV from Infinity War ... ...

2020-04-19T22:15:00.001+08:00

Ten years of War Machine and today we have the Mark IV from the Infinity War.

My collection of Mark I, Mark II and Mark III. This is probably my final War Machine and will skip Mark VI but I do own the Marvel Legends but since it stays in the packaging, it will not find its way here.

Mark V did not make it to the cinematic universe and I look forward to Iron Patriot II.

It's amazing to think that it has been 10 years and I was definitely still wowed by what I see and feel. I am extremely impressed by Mark IV and let me share with you why.

The Infinity Theme packaging has grown on me and I have Iron Man Mark L, Thor and Iron Spider Man of the Infinity line.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the digi-camo which I didn't notice in the movie. The heft is also very noticeable and it really feels like a tank in my hands.

Above, the standard issue of batteries and tools. Below, the battery compartments and switches.

There are fewer panels to be removed for War Machine compared to Iron Man.

Turn on the switch and the red LED sure makes War Machine a mean killing machine.

The back missiles packs and the back-mounted machine gun are nicely concealed when not deployed.

An alternative head for the unmasking of Rhodey.

One thing which I didn't like about this is the drooping shoulder which is not realistic and it is rather strange for this to happen.

War Machine as its name implies other than its payload of fire power, is the armour that protects Rhodey. There are also joints armour plates and they opens up when the elbows or knees are moved. There are also armour segments on the waist areas and this allows for greater articulations. You have to own a diecast Hot Toys Iron Man line of toys to appreciate why they cost so much.

The forearm armaments are quite intense and sure to annihilate anything in front of it.

The additional shoulder missiles bullets are nice touches and Hot Toys came a long way for such details.

With all guns blazing, total obliteration is imminent. Since I have inserted the batteries in the forearm. I have to feature the repulsor palm below though it's more of a flight stabiliser.

A pity it came with such a shady stand and no wonder Rhodey wants to blast it to kingdom come.

More pictures and closed up shots paying attention to some of details on this impressive figure.

Another grouse I have is the screw that holds the back missiles. Hot Toys, this is not a Kmart toy!

Final dramatic shots to end the post.

Mark IV looks good in every angle and even when it stands down.

Hot Toys Darth Maul with Sith Speeder from The Phantom Menace ... ...

2020-04-19T20:01:00.001+08:00

I like Darth Maul and had been waiting for Hot Toys to make a fanboy happy. They did that and included the Sith Speeder; woohoo!

The Darth Maul theme box art is superbly done and the texture gives you the very dark sense of what lures inside the box.

A metallic Darth Maul card sits on the lid and there is a red hue depending on the angle of view. I did not bother with removing it from the plastic bag.

I was in shock when I removed the lid as I have Darth Mould instead as the figure is infested with moulds! For a moment, I was wondering if it came in camo outfit.

I have to strip him to almost the bare essentials to get rid of the moulds. Left it in the sun for 30 minutes before I carried on.

Welcome back, Darth Maul. Let's get down to business.

Those rolling eyeballs are quite scary as Hot Toys really did a good job in creating very lifelike figures. Good thing this is only 12" tall.

If you had noticed above the hilt of the light saber was awkwardly latched on as I couldn't find the attachment. Then I realised there was one on the battery operated light saber and subsequently found more wrapped in a tiny bag when the extra wrist connectors are stored. The attachment and the holster reminds of Peak Design's Capture. Perhaps, Peter got his inspiration from the Jedi.

Provided are swinging blade effects but why only one arm with the battery operated light saber? I want them to light up when Maul wields two of them.

The Sith Cloak adds a bit more menace to Maul.

One last roll before we go look at the Sith Speeder.

Yes! Battery operated means bling bling!

The probe droid (there should be six) comes with the set and I would appreciate a stiffer display stick.

The light features are minimal and can be easily missed.

A scene from the movie and then I realised, NG! Something's wrong with wardrobe!

We will rectify the error later and let's focus on some speeder action. I tried two different locations in my house to see if the light saber could be any brighter but alas, that's the best it can do.

Comparison of the brightness switched off above and on below. Negligible difference.

Closer look at the probe droid.

A couple more shots of Maul on the speeder and this would be probably how I would have displayed him.

Let's do a little 'Joker poses'.

Finally, ending off with some cinematic poses seen in The Phantom Menace.

The error earlier mentioned is I forgotten about the Wrist-link when Maul uses his electrobinoculars.

The story line goes like this...

EXT. TATOOINE - DESERT MESA - NIGHT

The sinister looking Sith spacecraft lands on top of a desert mesa at dus,
scattering a herd of banthas. DARTH MAUL walks to the edge of the mesa and
studies the landscape with a pair of electrobinoculars. He picks out the
lights of three different cities in the distance, then pushes buttons on
his electronic armband.

Six football-sized PROBE DROIDS float out of the ship and head off in three
different directions toward the cities.

DARTH MAUL stands on the mesa and watches them through his
electrobinoculars.

This is a must have deluxe set for all Star Wars fan and of all the Darth Maul that I have seen in this scale, Hot Toys really knows how to make toys hot!

Hot Toys Black Panther from Black Panter ... ...

2020-04-19T16:57:00.001+08:00

Not exactly a Black Panther fan but Hot Toy's creative idea to relive the cinematic marvel had me sold. The gimmicks are ultraviolet lights and paint applications to allow the below display effect which is exactly how the new Panther Habit suit behaves when it charges up with kinetic energy.

Packaging is shoe box type and the usual treatment done for the box art with varied print texture.

This is the irritating plastic wrappers which are very difficult to remove if you like to repack everything once you are done. The reason is the tapes ends are jagged making removal a chore. Hot Toys, if you could, please cut your tapes cleanly and this would make removing the tapes so much easier.

Figure is very clean and it's basically a rubber suit over an improved Hot Toys True Type male body. Articulation is solid with clicks and once posed, the joints hold in place well.

On close inspection and you will notice the additional 'print' that would illuminate under the ultraviolet light.

The lighting tower and no where in the promotional picture that I would expect this to be made of styrofoam and papers being stuck together. However, the inclusion of a DC point is a redeeming factor.

Put everything together and turn on the lights and what a sight it is. Makes the perfect table conversation piece.

Do take note that the suit is somewhat sticky when contact with certain materials and best not to attach the fists back when repacking. The left fist above was stuck to the wrist like superglue.

Wakanda Forever salute can only be achieved as above and never leave this figure posed with the suit creased or stretched if you intend to own it for a couple of more years.

Above, I have switched out the visor and replaced with T'Challa's eyes.

Another two towers at the back would ensure the back of the figure being lit as well. And Hot Toys did think of that with additional plug points for that possibility. Perhaps I should make my own...

The switch and the DC point. Note that 'On 1' is for battery operation while 'On 2' is when DC is plugged in. Hot Toys should and must have this new option for all light base please!

The mask offers visor eyes or actual eyes and the switch is easily achieved with the tool supplied.

Space given, this would be permanently displayed. One Up to Hot Toys!

Hot Toys Iron Man Mark L and Accessories Set ... ...

2020-04-15T14:08:00.003+08:00

Infinity War Iron Man Mark L and its weapons set has been sitting in my toy store for a long time. Time to do a review on it.

It's been quite a while since I was wowed by a Hot Toys product and with Iron Man, there is little Hot Toys can do wrong with it.

Everything is great about the product from the box art to the figure and the accessories that comes with it.

I find the paint finish of Mark L exceptionally well done compared to my previous collection. The figure comes well-protected and gone are the irritating plastic bags being taped down on the arms and legs.

Batteries galore for the head, arms, body and legs. For the first time, I have taken photos of where the batteries compartments and switches are.

The panels that need to be removed as above.

Batteries inserted and all lights working. This time Hot Toys included the screw driver and tweezers.

I was always fond of using the articulated fingers but this time, I stuck to the posed hands.

In the set, there are three accessories featured in Infinity War. The Nano Boosters as shown below. The Hand Cannon and Nano Repulsor Cannon next.

The fins on the booster can swivel and the flaps on the back of the figure can open too.

The chest panel removed revealing the inner parts and a clearer picture of the arc reactor.

The forearm cannon for the left arm.

And on the right arm is the Nano Repulsor Cannon. This requires the removal of the right forearm.

Be careful with the plates rubbing against other parts of the armour as edges are sharp and result in scratches such as those below. Good thing that all Iron Man figures are somewhat battle-damaged painted.

Tony's head sculpt is provided and we have seen so many variations of Tony already.

Let's move on to the accessories...

Well, everything is great about the accessories but there is no light effects to any of them even when they are plugged in to the forearm connector. Hot Toys use the paint to mimicked the light effects.

First up, the Katar and the Elliptical Shield.

The top portion of the Katar is broken as it is an accessory for Thanos figure to enact the fight scene where he ripped off the weapon.

Next, is the Energy Blade which can be wielded on both hands. The hands are provided to hold the weapon.

Then, we have the Hand Blade which is attached to only the right arm.

Let's move on to the Power Mallet for only the left arm.

Follow by the Battering Rams for both arms.

Above showing the arm connector and below all the limbs removed.

The Foot Thruster put on and if his arms can be positioned to hold a sword downwards, it would make a nice Iron Oscar statue!

Finally, the Foot Clamps which were quite a challenge to pose as there are limitations to their movements.

The last piece is the Gauntlet Constraint which was used when the Avengers attempted to remove the Infinity Gauntlet from him.

So, that's it and it's farewell to Iron Man Mark L as it goes into permanent storage.

Metal Build Evangelion Test Type EVA 01 and Production Model EVA 02

2020-04-13T14:10:00.004+08:00

Bandai collaborated with Kanetake Ebikawa and produced the reimagined Eva 01 and 02 under the Metal Build toy line. Eva 01 was snapped up within minutes on the first day of online pre-order. I have to say I am lucky to get my hands on them.

By the time I get to know about the existence of Metal Build Eva 01, it was already way after the pre-order. However, I did not go on a hunt for it and in fact, I did not pick up the item even when I spotted it on the shelves when in Japan.

I managed to get these two through my regular toy shop and glad that they were in stock. Last check, Eva 02 is still in stock.

Box art for both are simply fantastic and it is tough to throw away such well-made packaging.

Evangelion figures makes up quite a fair bit of my toy collection and I have told myself countless times to stop buying Evangelion figures but these Metal Build ones are hard to resist.

Let's start with Eva 01 and I have to bring out Bandai's Soul Spec Eva 01 to come inspect the new comer.

The Soul Spec Evas are based on the original design of Evangelion while the Metal Build one is more stylistic with angular corners. A huge significant feature missing from the Metal Build Eva is the shoulder pylon. In it's replacement, the pylon is attached to the back paying homage to its origin. The pylon in the original series contains melee weapons such as the progressive knife. I have five Soul Spec Evas and realised that I have only featured one. For those who are interested, you can see it here.

Pictures above and below shows the Metal Build version without the Pylon attached stands taller than the Sou Spec version. The differences are subtle yet noticeable. Personally, I really dig the improvements.

Another feature missing in the Metal Build version is the plug entry point (seen above) which I have never inserted into any of my Evas put on display.

The beauty of this product is the display that is modeled after the Launch Pad. Evangelions are deployed within the attacked area and raised to the ground through launch pad such as the one below.

Bandai took the effort to conceal the inserts when not in use and they even included storage possibility below the base.

The cable material is well-chosen to give a realism effect and I would say they have succeeded as this is the first time I have inserted the power cable into Eva 01. This are not charging cable and the Eva relies on live power feed to stay powered up for the pilot to control it.

Once, the plug is in with the pilot, Eva 01 is deployed. This is piloted by the only male pilot in the series; Shinji Ikari.

The pylon still serves the functions of the holstering the weapons with the holes on them. Below, the progressive knife.

Included in the set is the display stand enabling some flight or jump poses.

Below, the Magoroku Exterminate Swords which were never featured in the movie but this is paying homage again to Ikuto Yamashita's orginal design.

Next, the hand pistol which has limited effects on the Angels.

Below are features of what Kanetake Ebikawa has added for his rendition of Eva 01. First is the horn replacement piece which includes some kind of a goggle to enhance the Eva's capabilities.

Below, right and left thigh drop leg holster for more armament attachments. Above, the slot is concealed and can be flipped open to reveal it.

Shin and ankle guard on the left leg while the original ankle guard is on the right.

Definitely a winner here when it comes to an overpowered Eva.

Let's start with some sword play.

Next, the Pallet rifle which also has very little effects on Angels.

There are attachments to the pallet rifle and here is some form of a compression weapon.

The other attachments include the grenade launcher and bayonet.

The berserk mode when the Eva takes over the control.

The display like Bandai's Soul of Chogokin series allows for all the weapons to be displayed alongside the mech. Very grand way of displaying.

Now, Eva 02, the Production Model enters and she is piloted by Asuka Langley Soryu.

The display launch base before putting on the Eva and the sleuth of weapons and accessories.

Eva 02 out of the box and looking as good.

Borrowed the grenade launcher from Eva 01 to be attached to the Pallet Gun.

The Thunder Spear is a dedicated weapon for Eva 02 in the Rebuild of Evangelion. However, the pilot in that movie is Mari Makinami Illustrious.

The PK2 Progressive Knife that resembles a pen-knife is unique to Eva 02.

At this point, I had to take Soul Spec Eva 02 out. Here she is equipped with Positron Rifle (Prototype 20 with toroidal accelerator).

Back to Metal Build Eva 02.

Asuka decided to unplug Eva 02 for better mobility. When that happens, the Eva will function for 5 minutes to deliver maximum damage.

The two other progressive knives can be mounted on the shoulder pylon or the leg holsters. On the shoulders are also the spike missiles which were in the original series.

The PK2 extended out and this is a rather effective melee weapon.

The google attachments comes with undeployed version above and the goggles deployed below.

If space allows, I would very much like to display the two in their full splendor. I just noticed that Bandai is reissuing 01 with a different paint finish and the inclusion of the Spear or Lance of Longinus. Will I get it? I don't think so. Will await how Eva 00 would look like and probably it will stop there. Let's see.

Update: The Eva 01 opened for pre-order today and it's snapped up within minutes again!

Star Ace Ninja Batman Deluxe Edition ... ...

2020-04-13T13:49:00.000+08:00

Ninja Batman is a 2018 animation film which sees Batman and whole host of Arkham Asylum folks being teleported to feudal Japan. It was quite an entertaining animation and for Batman fans, getting the Ninja Batman figure is necessary.

I chose the Deluxe Edition for the Samurai Batman which was featured at the final scene where Batman fought Joker to the bitter end.

Two ways to ensure you are getting the Deluxe Edition is the 'War Version' sticker in front of the box...

and the barcode at the back of the box that has (DX) on it. Interesting to note that this figure is made in Bangladesh.

Figure out of the box stands well on its own. sculpting is on point capturing the look from the animation.

Paintwork is also nicely executed.

Minus the cape and batman is rather fat with the rubber suit which feels like a fat suit. Articulation is horrible and definitely no ninja poses here.

I wonder if the suit will give way after some time if I maintain this pose for display.

Let's just put the cape back on to hide the fats.

Some nice details would be the bat logo being applied to all his weapons, from the shuriken, kunai and the katana blade.

Putting on the Samurai or War Version is a painless process as all the armour plates attach via magnets. The only piece that is held by velcro is the thigh plate. The additional head is a war cry expression and I wish there is one that he closes his mouth for a more neutral look.

An additional Katana blade is included for the Deluxe Edition.

There is a specific hand to hold the kunai and shuriken.

Overall feel is rather mixed. On one hand, this figure looks good but suffers at poseability. I would have been happier with a smaller scale S.H.Figuarts version.

Joy Toy 1/18 Scale U.S Special Forces Group... ...

2020-04-13T13:02:00.002+08:00

Joy Toy, another Mainland entrant into the action figures market. They have released a whole line of different military outfits at 1/25 and 1/18 scale. They have all types of soldiers and Titanfall types Mechs. Today, we look at the 1/18 scale U.S Special Forces Group.

This comes as a set of 5 and within the set, there are additional hands (not enough for all the guys) for different gestures and a set of joints which in my case I had to replace a broken left knee joint.

The box art of each figure features individual soldier and the extra hands and joints is in the last box.

Let's get started with Figure A and you will notice it does not come kitted. I guess that's the idea of fun and I had thought the container is a smart idea which can double as a display case but that's not the intention of the manufacturer. Therefore, the case is rather useless and I suggest discarding it keeping only the cover which could be used as a display stand.

Figure offers multiple articulation points with double-joints at the elbow and knees. There is even front foot joints but it is rather stiff and requires some force.

The figure needs to be taken apart with some strength so you can fit all the necessary accessories on him.

Each soldier comes with a primary weapon, a secondary weapon, side arm and a knife. Primary weapon, side arm, tactical vest, belt, drop leg holsters, guards and helmet are identical for all figures.

So, all soldiers will look exactly like this if they all use their primary weapon only.

I prefer to display them without their helmet and using the container cover as a display stand.

The rest of the squad below and process of putting them together is the same.

Above, a picture of the figure taken apart ready for kitting.

All went well until our sniper who suffered a broken left knee joint when I pulled it out of the socket. Good thing, Joy Toy included replacement parts and that is really a toy that brings joy.

Band of brothers ready for special ops.

Below are the heavy weapons specialists; Gattling Will, Bazooka Sam and Sniper Joe.

Jet Set Go... ...

2020-04-13T00:21:00.001+08:00

It's been close to a year since my last post and I have been really caught up with work again until recently. Was out and about before the commencement of the Circuit Breaker and I'm glad I managed to pick up these 2 jet related items.

Above, the Takara Tomy Transformers Studio Series KSI Boss aka Nitro Zeus and below Jet Trooper from The Last Jedi from Hasbro.

This is Hasbro's new toy line: Galaxy of Adventures. Surprisingly the figure has more articulation than its 3.75" counterpart. This 5" figure is slightly larger and it's meant to be more cartoonish-like based on the new cartoon targeted for kids.

Since this is for kids, the need for a playable gimmick is needed as seen above.

Figure comes with just a blaster but the mould and paint job is really decent enough for a kid's first stormtrooper toy.

Articulation is fantastic and the quick draw mechanism could be easily countered with some force, no pun intended.

There is the Sith version as well but I also bought the 3.75" vintage collection on the same day. However, that shall stay in the card.

Next up is the Studio Series KSI Boss. This would be my first piece and I got it because of the huge discount.

Within the packaging is this display stand which is a nice touch. My son has the Nitro Zeus while I like this metallic paint finish.

To me, it reminds me of War Machine. Articulation wise is pretty decent and nice poses could be achieved.

The alter mode is a jet which I am finding hard to identify what is it referenced to. With the turbines under the wing, it suggest vertical takeoff and landing capability so I would guess the Harrier but it's too ancient for a recent movie like The Last Knight. Anyway, the jet in the movie looks nothing like these below.

Cockpit can fit a figure and that's a nice touch to something this size.

Below, just some alternative looks the figure can offer with some imaginations.

Macross 35th Anniversary VF-31J Build... ...

2019-04-22T00:08:00.001+08:00

Macross, an anime that I have enjoyed since 1982 reached its 35th year in 2017 and in 2016, the anime Macross Delta was aired. Prices of Macross toys have also skyrocketed over the years which made me stop buying anything released from the series.

Fate has always a twist to how I would land myself a VF-31J, a 35th Anniversary limited edition piloted by Hayate Immelman, the lead character.

This was picked up at a sale at Takashimaya and it went for $60 and I believe the original price should be $90. Arcadia released the 35th Anniversary valkarie (VF-1J) with the same colour scheme. On its 30th Anniversary, I bought the VF-1J already so I gave this release a miss.

The VF-31 Siegfried grew on me and when I saw this on sale, I'm sold!

I knew what I'm in for when it's a model kit and it always starts with the colourless pilots. With all my markers on hand, I begun painting to the best of what I have and could achieve.

There is a choice of cockpit with single-seater with only Hayate or two-seater with Freyja Wion at the back. Hayate is an interesting character who refused to put the helmet as he dislikes the AI assistance.

Another pain to building a model kit other than painting is the application of stickers. There are 174 stickers to apply and some needs to be done when certain sections are completed. Bandai provided 2 sets of stickers; the water slide and the membrane type. I chose the membrane after reading reviews that the water slide ones do not last long and tears easily when dried.

At this point, I have already made a mistake.

The stickers on the wings with the 35th Anniversary are one of the largest ones to be applied.

The mistake I mentioned earlier is the 'chest piece' just above the cockpit. It should have been black and not white. Some interesting facts about Bandai's model kit is it is more economical to reuse moulds than to produce new ones, so it is common to have parts that are not meant to be used.

The real problem is removing the stickers and applying it onto the new piece. I mentioned that the stickers are membrane type and once applied, it is very difficult to be removed. I overstretched one of the stickers and am left with the one on the left.

Then I realised on page 32, there is a parts list which tells builders what parts are not be used. Why not on page 1 or 2 or even 3!

Anyway, back to building and you would have noticed the change of work area. I had spent the entire day building and had to continue at night.

The next day, building carries on and it was finally done and I bravely transformed it. Bravely as transforming it risk the stickers being torn.

I have also attempted to colour the part with the torn sticker. Not exactly well done but it will do for now.

After 2 days of work, it is done and I am very pleased with the overall craftsmanship.

These are the sticker sheets. The only ones not used are those stickers below meant for the cockpit which I painted it instead.

The most intricate part of the stickers are the ones that made up the word 'Anniversary'.

For the purpose of this entry, I shall take the risk to transform it again.

There are many other parts which I had painted. The daggers hidden in the forearm are painted else it would be just plain black.

Breaking is but part of this hobby and repairing is a needed skill. In my rush, I had also cut the pegs of the open palms.

Articulation is limited but enough for good poses. After this, I had to scour the open market for Chogokin DX versions of the VF-31.

Hot Toys Avenger Infinity War Iron Spider Man (Mr Stark, it smells like a new car in here) ... ...

2019-03-16T00:35:00.000+08:00

and I must say the figure do smell rather like a new car. It's clear now why I would have bought this for the reasons stated in the previous post.

Tom Holland portrayed Peter Parker's character very well and he probably is one of the best Spider Man to date in my books. As for the likeness of the actor by Hot Toys; hey, this is Hot Toys!

Packaging for this follows the Avenger series so there's is much to brat about.

The standard inclusion of a stand and a flex-display is a standard now for all 1/6 scale figures.

I am rather disappointed with how the spider arms slot aren't made more inconspicuous. Hello Hot Toys, magnets would be a good idea!

Posability is slightly better than Iron Man figures but not as good as Deadpool.

Web slinging gimmicks are definitively included for a Spider Man figure.

Coming back to the unmasked Peter Parker and I thought the mask is some collapsible helmet rather than the piece of trash in his hands.

Fitted with the spider arms and hmm...they looked kinda small. I should have opened this before the Re-Edit version. Getting it to half kneel also took me several minutes to achieve.

The landing pose isn't as well executed compared to the Re:Edit counterpart.

LED lights on below versus lights off above. I guess I could have taken the pictures in lower light condition to fully appreciate the LED function.

Stark provided the suit with repulsors but too bad batteries compartments not included.

I had to give Re:Edit a run for its money with this pose. But hey, Re:Edit Iron Spider Man cost more than Hot Toys!

Here are the 4 sets of different aperture-liked eyes. Hmm, reminds me of Deadpool. Maybe corny characters need these type of eyes to show off their cheekiness.

Size comparison between the two and Hot Toys figure looks bulkier.

So, officially, this is my first Hot Toys Spider Man and what is the verdict? I am very impressed and love this figure!!

Sen-Ti-Nel RE:EDIT Iron Spider Man ... ...

2019-03-16T00:00:00.001+08:00

This is my second purchase from the Sen-Ti-Nel Re-Edit Line. The first purchase was the War Machine. This is my first ever purchase of a Spider Man figure as I am not quite a Spidy fan.

This is also the the first 1/6 scale figure by Sen-Ti-Nel and I was sold immediately I saw it on pre-order. The other main reason for getting it is I'm only interested in the Iron Spider version of the Spider Man. It's like a hybrid between Doctor Octavius and Spider Man.

The packaging is rather simplistic while some attention was put into the box art .

Figure out of the box feels very solid as it comprises of a number of diecast parts. CG of the figure is fantastic too to achieve many very dynamic poses.

The Iron Man color scheme of this figure makes this truly a comic book Iron Spider Man.

To show off how posable this is, the landing pose is the definitive benchmark.

A flexi-display stand is provided which Hot Toys has sort of set the standard for.

To install the waldoes or spider arms, the cover need to be removed.

The running pose is one of my favorite pose for this figure but to maintain the pose, a little help is needed to keep the figure in 'motion'.

The squat pose is also a very nice one and it took me several minutes to get the knees off the stand.

I truly enjoyed this figure but it is time to bring in the main event for this shoot. The next photo will give an obvious hint to what is the next post.

Toynami Max and Miriya Sterling's VF-1J ... ...

2019-03-15T23:18:00.002+08:00

These are 1/100scale VF-1J veritech fighters of Max and Miriya of a classic cartoon series which I really enjoyed. The American calls the series Robotech while the Japanese origin is Macross.

I have been collecting many variants of Macross valkyrie fighters and mostly are from the Yamato toyline which is 1/42 scale and they can be seen here.

The Toynami line has always paid attention to the packaging and box art. The all sides view of the packaging as follows.

Both veritech fighters come with stickers to be applied to add on details. It really does make a difference and I chose to apply them which is something I hardly do as I am a stickler not to use stickers. We shall start off with Miriya's veritech fighter.

The provided display stand is always an appreciated addition. It also adds loads of dynamism to the toy.

I'm impressed with the details Toynami paid into such as having the pilot being visible through the cockpit.

Other than the cockpit pilot, there is another micro standing figure of the pilot.

Max's veritech fighter is next.

King Arts Captain America Civil War War Machine Mark III ... ...

2019-03-14T21:57:00.002+08:00

I opted for the smaller scaled War Machine over Hot Toys' offering for obvious reason.

Experiencing a few of King Arts' offering, I am quite please with their version of War Machine.

Articulation is rather limited and the salute post above is all about camera angle.

The useless baton which was destroyed within minutes into the battle is also made available.

Though articulation is limited, the CG of the figure is rather impressive and is able to strike quite dynamic battle poses.
