2. Strip all the bedding (sheets, pillow cases, comforters, blankets, etc) and wash them in HOT water. If possible, set your water heater to about 140? and boil them to death. It is important to wash your bedding once a week to prevent them from coming back.

3. Clean your room thoroughly. Vacuum all surfaces, especially upholstered, and scrub, scrub, scrub. Once you've cleaned, bleached, and what not, simply maintain it. I some sever cases you may need to hire a pest control company but be careful because all sorts of " Bedbug Extermination Experts" are crawling out of the woodwork. Also you really want to be careful where they spray poisons.

With a little elbow grease and some smart bedding, you'll be protected against bed bugs in no time. Just make sure you get those mattress encasings! 6) Do not leave the lights on in the house when they are not in use. If the light is on in the room get into the habit to switch it off as you leave the room.

7) You can reduce your consumption of energy by using energy saving light bulbs. These special bulbs use less than a quarter of the electricity needed by ordinary bulbs. They also have the added benefit that they last much longer.

Have you ever heard of aquatic dead zones? They are areas of water near inhabited coastlines that through natural or human intervention have oxygen levels low enough that no aquatic life can live. Fish and other animals that wander into these areas die and there are no plants on the sea floor. Scientists first discovered dead zones in the 1970s. Since then, a recent study in 2008 confirmed four hundred and five dead zones worldwide. Most of these are around heavily populated areas. Dead zones, while in some cases natural phenomenon, are typically the result of water pollution. Reducing the dead zones is beneficial not only to the environment, but also to the fishing industry which depends on healthy water to produce healthy fish.

The largest dead zone currently is in the Gulf of Mexico. Covering an area about 27,000 miles square it is about the size of New Jersey. This area is a recurring dead zone and is caused by the runoff from the Mississippi River. Dead zones that are caused by pollution are usually created by chemicals rich in nitrogen. Examples include fertilizers and pesticides. When these chemicals are introduced into, for example, the Mississippi, they flow downriver and eventually end up in the Gulf. Once there, "single-celled, plant-like organisms" that live in the ocean began feeding on the nitrogen in tight packs. This is visible to the naked eye as "algae bloom". Algae is notorious for depleting water of oxygen through their process of "cellular respiration" which is the same way the human body changes food into energy. Eventually the oxygen in the area the algae are blooming is used up and all the aquatic life in that area dies. Last year, in 2009, the dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico shrank due to weather conditions. While this ordinarily is a good thing, in this case the shrinking meant that instead of covering a large portion of the ocean floor, the dead zone area extended more vertically toward the surface of the ocean, putting a strain on the 2.8 billion dollar fishing industry.

"Low oxygen levels recorded along the Gulf Coast of North America have led to reproductive problems in fish involving decreased size of reproductive organs, low egg counts and lack of spawning." These changes in the fish will have a large impact not only on the fishing industry, but also on the natural food chain in the Gulf. Combined with the recent problem of the BP oil spill and the Gulf of Mexico's environmental ecosystem is in serious trouble.

A plane has crashed in thenorthern hills of Pakistani capital, Islamabad, killing all 152 people on board. The plane, an Airblue flight from Karachi to Islamabad, came down in the Margalla Hills.
Officials said the plane lost contact with the control tower minutes before landing. It is not known what caused the crash.

Pakistani TV showed images of smoldering wreckage on a foggy hillside, with helicopters overhead.

Airblue is the largest of the private airlines which have sprung up in Pakistan in recent years. The company and civil aviation officials are adamant there were no technical problems with the plane when it left Karachi. They say there was nothing in conversations between the pilot and the Islamabad control tower that suggests anything was wrong.

However, airport officials told the BBC that two flights due to land in the capital had been turned back before the ill-fated Airblue plane crashed, in what the biggest air disaster is seen in Pakistan.

Although the country's air industry has been booming, critics say standards have not always kept pace with the increase in services. Pilots complain they are being forced to fly extra hours which they say leads to fatigue, a claim denied by the airlines.

Imtiaz Elahi, chairman of the Capital Development Authority, which deals with emergencies, said the situation at the site of the crash was "heartbreaking".

"It is a great tragedy, and I confirm it with pain that there are no survivors," he told the Associated Press news agency.

The plane, reported to be an Airbus A321 with 146 passengers and six crew on board, is thought to have left Karachi at 0750 (0350 GMT).Two Americans were among the victims, a US embassy spokesman said, but gave no further details.

Pakistan's Interior Minister Rehman Malik said at least five survivors had been taken to hospital, but local officials later said those reports were wrong.
Local TV footage showed twisted metal wreckage hanging from trees and scattered across the ground. A flight recorder has been found. Officials said rescuers searching for survivors were digging through the rubble with their bare hands. The crash site, on a steep hill, has no roads.

"The plane is totally destroyed, the pieces and parts scattered over a large distance. Some parts of the plane are still burning. Some bushes have been burnt," said Express 24/7 television journalist Sabur Ali Sayed at the scene.

Aamir Ali Ahmed, a senior city government official, told Reuters: "It's a very difficult operation because of the rain. Most of the bodies are charred. We're sending body-bags via helicopters."

With the recent BP Deepwater disaster still spilling out in to the Gulf of Mexico, tarnishing such vital tourism spots as Florida and New Orleans, European destinations are beginning to take note of the risk of offshore drilling, and the danger it can pose to bustling tourist destinations. Florida Governor Charlie Crist is already proposing a constitutional ban of drilling offshore Florida, to prevent a similar disaster losing the billions of dollars lost in this spill, now many hope the Costa Del Sol may do similar by preventing Repsol's proposed drill on their shores.

Repsol-YPF have proposed drilling a site just nine miles away from the busy tourist spots of Mijos, Cabopino and Fuengirola. The spot is a 16 square kilometre spread of oil, identified by a 2005 seismic survey, and Repsol hope to start test drilling by the beginning of January next year.

Yet the plans have fallen under fire from Ecological groups such as Ecologistas en Accion, who believe that the drill could cause no end of detriment to the Costa Del Sol's tourist industry, and expressing concern for the area's wildlife and nature. "It is completely incompatible with with both tourism and environmental interests of the Costa Del Sol," a spokesman for Ecologistas en Accion, commented.

Tourism represents the Costa Del Sol's largest source of income, accounting for over a billion Euros a year as it brings in over 10 million visitors. Earlier this year we have seen American Tourism take a considerable blow as hot spots such as Destin have remained relatively empty over the summer period. Green Groups are forecasting a similar problem here, the affect on nature and all those involved in the tourist trade, from hotels to privately owned Costa Del Sol villas, could be catastrophic, as it has proved to be for Destin vacation rental owners.

Ecologistas en Accion have already submitted their concerns in reports to the Environment Ministry prior to public consultation deadline.

Meanwhile Repsol are insistent its plans to drill will not affect the Costa Del Sol coastline. The construction is said to be designed for low visibility, using an underwater well head rather than floating platform. The oil is then to be transported by a submarine conduit to a base being built on the shore.

Repsol are planning their test drill for the beginning of next year so as not to interfere with the migration of Whales, who will have completed their travels by then. This test drill will determine whether there is enough gas to make the endeavor economically viable. Yet before this procedure can go ahead the company must first receive clearance from Spain's Environment Ministry.

The Environment Ministry have already started procedure in to whether this may be an environmentally friendly pursuit and are set to make their decision by the end of September.

Spain's Industry Ministry has already cleared plans for the drill.

Though there are a variety of possible designs for new energy efficient public transit systems currently being contemplated; a Michigan based designer, Dave Owsen, has come up with a design for an energy efficient solar powered public transit system. Mr. Owen's Eco-friendly design is considerably detailed; outlining everything from how the Green system would be powered to the designs of the individual carts that are attached to the rail system.

Mr. Owen's energy efficient powering designs call for the harnessing of natural sunlight in a way that is similar to how plant's absorb energy through Eco-friendly photosynthesis. Each rail cart would be equipped with photovoltaic panels, or solar panels; which would be the primary source of powering for the Green rail system. In addition to the solar panels; the windows in this Eco-friendly design are ones that were specially designed by MIT to harness sun light aimed at the window; redirecting the power into the rail cart itself.

Dave Owen's solar powered public transit system design calls for private individual Green "rail carts" that would consist of two seats facing each other; similar to a railroad passenger compartment design; each being able to accommodate either two adults and a small amount of cargo or one adult and two children with a very small amount of cargo. The individual energy efficient rail carts would travel along a duel rail system; essentially; one side being for departures and the other being for arrivals.

On one side of the Eco-friendly rail cart there would be a futuristic sliding door for exiting and entering the unit; while the other side would consist of a touch screen navigation system where the occupant could input their desired destination and route.

In addition to the Eco-friendly design being specifically structured to accommodate the general public; the solar powered public transit system could also serve as a new method of energy efficient shipping. Again; very similar to a traditional locomotive system; there are Green designs for cargo rail carts in addition to the passenger rail carts; of which would expand the energy efficient possibilities into the commercial market as well. The Eco-friendly shipping rail carts would be designed a little differently than the passenger rail carts in that they would call for larger openings in the doorway and additional space for the cargo (without seats). Other than the clear energy efficient benefits that come along with a solar powered public transit system; local and small business would be more inclined to order their goods from local manufactures; as the shipping costs would be nominal compared to using traditional shipping alternatives powered by fossil fuels.

Dave Owsen had this to say about his Eco-friendly solar powered public transit system design:

"Public transportation will feature diverse options depending on the needs of people and businesses. This design replaces bus systems with a more efficient and private "Cells" that also provide incentive for small business shipping and service industry distribution."

According to the American Public Transportation Association (APTA); an estimated 30% of all carbon dioxide emissions contributed from the United States comes from transportation. This includes both personal transit units; cars, trucks, bikes etc; as well as public transit systems. It is estimated that about 14 million Americans currently use public transportation and that the other 88% of the country uses some form of their own personal mode of transportation. The United States is said to save approximately 1.4 billion gallons of gasoline each year as well as about 1.5 million tons of carbon dioxide with the current public transit systems that are in place.

With larger cities such as Los Angeles and New York; implementing such an innovative Eco-friendly solar powered public transit system would cost a considerable amount of money and time to construct. While it is no secret that implementing such a large scale remodeling of public transportation within large cities of the like would be costly; one must weigh the possible Eco-friendly benefits that could arise from embarking upon such a Green endeavor.
