			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Since I was 16 years old and fell from my horse during a competition, my battle with migraine headaches began. The migraines started their hold over me that would last for several years when I landed on my head and left shoulder. <a href="http://www.chiropractorincostamesa.com" target='_blank'>Costa Mesa Chiropractor</a>  </p>
<p>The next 10 years led me from doctor to doctor, looking for someone who could ease my pain. Healthcare providers who were simply not interested in listening to my medical history or treating the root problem erroneously diagnosed me with many ailments such as sinus infections and depression. They rather prefer prescribing more and more painkillers and having me checked into the hospital for test after test.  </p>
<p>At one point, in my mid-20s, one physician put me on the antibiotic Ceclor for about six months, along with the strong painkiller Percocet. This doctor insisted prescribing these drugs to me to cure my sinus infection. But I did not have a sinus infection. Thinking of all the bad medical advice that I paid for over the years, It just makes me angry.  </p>
<p>Finally , I visited Dr Candice McCowin at Great Life Chiropractic in Costa Mesa, California due to the insistence of a co-worker. My office mate suffered the agony of carpal tunnel syndrome to the extent where her physician advised surgery that would leave scars on her wrists and make her unable to perform her job for a couple of weeks. After several visits to Great Life Chiropractic, my co-worker was no longer in pain and could not believe she was so close to agreeing to such an invasive procedure with her medical doctor.  </p>
<p>What a relief it was to finally find a healthcare provider who listened attentively as she took my health history. Her extra training in this area made me aware that she was serious about achieving results with her patients.  </p>
<p>Dr.McCowin told me that, although many people think of massage as a relaxing experience, it is an effective way to deal with the discomfort of tight muscle spasms. Many migraine sufferers experience such muscle spasms in their necks, which plays as a precursor to the onset of severe migraine most of the time. Spasms taking place during a migraine makes it even more painful for the individual.  </p>
<p>No longer am I awakened in the middle of the night with the severe pain of a migraine, followed by agony for the next three or four days. A typical day of walking exerts a force equal to several hundred tons on your feet. One of the best ways to revive your tired toes is a pedicure &#45; either at home or at the spa. Because when your feet feel good, your whole body feels refreshed and energized. According to a recent American Podiatric Medical Association survey, 25 percent of women perform at-home pedicures, while 34 percent have indulged in salon or spa pedicures. Whichever way you pamper your feet, do it safely. Here are some tips from APMA member podiatrist Dr. Marlene Reid:</p>
<p> 1. Soothe your soles. Smoothing away calluses on the heels, balls and sides of your feet will make them feel better. Use a pumice stone, foot file or foot scrub. You can make your own scrub by combining olive oil and sea salt. Avoid using a foot razor, which can remove too much skin and cause infection and permanent damage if used incorrectly.</p>
<p> 2. Dry up. After soaking feet , make sure to thoroughly rinse off the scrub or other products and pat feet dry. Pay close attention to moisture between the toes, which can can lead to athlete&#8217;s foot or other fungal infections.</p>
<p> 3. Snip the tips. Toenails should be trimmed to just above the top of each toe. Use a straightedged toenail clipper to ensure nails do not become curved or rounded in the corners.</p>
<p> 4. Make a clean sweep. Run a wooden or rubber manicure stick under nails to remove any dirt trapped underneath. Be very gentle and never use a sharp tool to clean under your nail or you may puncture the skin, leaving it vulnerable to infection.</p>
<p> 5. Shape them up. Smooth nail edges by filing toenails with an emery board. File lightly in one direction to smooth the edge of the nail without drastically rounding the corners of the nail; don&#8217;t saw back and forth.</p>
<p> 6. Care for cuticles. Moisturize cuticles with a cuticle cream or hand cream, then gently push them back with a rubber cuticle pusher or manicure stick. Cuticles serve as a protective barrier against bacteria entering the body and should never be cut.</p>
<p> 7. Polish up. Nail polish locks out moisture and doesn&#8217;t allow the nail or the nail bed to &#8220;breathe.&#8221; Paint toes only if you have healthy nails and remove polish regularly with a non-acetone nail polish.</p>

<p> Be sure to keep your elbows in and do as many pushups as you can.</p>
<p> Next, do the single arm dumbbell swing for 30 seconds. This is done by holding a dumbbell in one hand while keeping both knees bent at a small angle.</p>
<p> Lower the weight between your legs and then use your hips to help power it to shoulder height. Repeat these for 30 seconds and then switch hands.</p>
<p> After that, do normal pushups for a half minute and then complete the sequence with 2 arm dumbbell swings.</p>
<p>If you want, I have another  sequence that can be combined with the one I just described or it can be done by itself as a separate 15 minute exercise. You can even mix in <a target="_blank" href="http://www.fatlossfactor.com/exercises">six pack ab exercises</a>.</p>
<p> Start by doing Split Squats. Stand on one foot and put the other foot behind you on the bench.  Lower your body until your trailing knee as near to the floor as possible.</p>
<p>The leg that is rearward will feel a stretch. Next do some leg curls with a stability ball.With the back on the ground, use each leg to squeeze the ball and raise it.</p>
<p> Without taking a break, change to push up position with your elbows on the ball. Stay in this position while bracing your abdominals.</p>
<p> Now you have two sequences that you can do in a short time to keep that fat off your body.</p>

<p>This article covers your day in and day out marathon training diet. <p> Your source of energy is the food you eat. All food is made up of carbohydrates, proteins, fat and fiber. Carbohydrates are tied to <strong>energy production</strong>, complete proteins are tied to <strong>tissue repair and building</strong>, fat provides <strong>body fuel</strong> and fiber is roughage. Most foods will have trace amounts of all these macronutrients, but each is typically rich in one. ALL are needed in your diet.</p>
<h2>Carbohydrates and Marathon Training<br /></h2>
<p>Your body burns carbohydrates more efficiently than fat or protein.Try to get your carbohydrate intake up to 60-70% of your daily food intake.</p>
<p> Carbohydrates stored in the body benefit runners much more than other micronutrients. That is because you get more energy &#8211; per unit of oxygen consumed &#8211; from carbohydrates than you do from fat. What this means is that you get more energy for running when your body burns carbohydrates than you do when your body burns fat or protein. Because oxygen often is the limiting factor in long duration events, your body will find it easier to use the energy source that requires the least amount of oxygen per kilocalorie of energy produced. (you measure energy in kilocalories)</p>
<p> Your body produces energy by converting carbohydrates into glucose. When you are exercising at a moderate pace, carbohydrates provide 40 to 50 percent of your energy requirement. As you start running harder, carbohydrates provide a greater percentage of your energy requirements.Your body has to work hard to break down protein and fat into glucose to provide energy. So your body burns carbohydrates first. When you are working out intensely, your body uses it&#8217;s energy for the workout and doesn&#8217;t have much to spare to break down protain and fat.During a marathon, you had much rather that energy be used for running faster.</p>
<h2>Best Carbohydrate Foods for your Marathon Training</h2>
<p>A runner&#8217;s carbohydrate needs are commonly based on your activity level (how much you are running) and your body size. Runners engaged in moderate-duration, low-intensity exercise require 5-7 g of carbohydrates per kilogram of body weight. Runners engaged in long-duration and high-intensity exercise need 7-12 g of carbohydrates per kilogram of body weight.</p>

<h2>Fat</h2>
<p>After carbohydrates, your body burns fat for energy during exercise.</p>
<p> Contrary to popular opinion, fat is not your enemy.Fat that comes from eating too many cheetos is. (Remember that excess of any macro-nutrient &#8211; carbs, protein, fat &#8211; is turned into fat.) Free fatty acid metabolism accounts for about half of the total energy expended during moderate exercise. For events lasting more than an hour, your body may use mostly fats for energy. Whether the runner&#8217;s body uses fat for fuel for not depends on the event&#8217;s duration and the runner&#8217;s condition. A trained athlete will begin using fat for energy quicker than an untrained athlete. (This is one of the adaption mechanisms of the long run in marathon training.)</p>

<h2>Protein For The Runner&#8217;s Diet<br /></h2>
<p>After carbohydrates and fats, protein provides energy for the body. Protein also repairs muscle tissue damaged by exercise. While it is true that exercise MAY increase an athlete&#8217;s protein requirements, most Americans get more than the recommended amounts of protein.</p>
<p> A good rule of thumb is to get 10-12 percent of your total calories from protein. A general rule is for endurance athletes to eat between 1.2-1.4 grams protein every day for every kilogram of body weight. Remember, extra protein is stored as fat.</p>
<p> You probably don&#8217;t need extra protein, what you do need is to eat protein from quality sources.</p>
<p> Many runners (especially women) who are trying to lose weight cut calories by cutting out protein. However a better place to cut out calories is your daily bagel.Bagels are on my &#8220;do not eat&#8221;list (see White Flour = Empty Calories). Don&#8217;t cut out protein-rich foods such as &#8211; lean pork and beef, poultry, fish, eggs, beans, tofu, and low-fat dairy products &#8211; in favour of bagels. Include lean sources of protein in your marathon training diet.</p>

<p>Fiber helps the body stay healthy and may prevent heart disease. It might be easier than you expect to get enough.</p>
<p> Soluble fiber may help prevent heart disease by lowering LDL, or &#8220;bad&#8221; cholesterol levels. Good sources of soluble fiber are oats, barley, beans, apples, oranges and other fruits and vegetables. Try to eat 20 to 35 grams of fiber every day. The best way to do this is to consume a wide variety of whole grains, nuts, seeds, beans, fruits and vegetables.</p>
<p> Fiber helps your digestive system keep your bowels &#8220;regular&#8221;.Eating enough fiber is key to avoiding discomfort on your long training runs. However, fiber should not be eaten as a pre-run food due to it&#8217;s water absorbing qualities.</p>

<p>You can sneak fiber into your diet by adding vegetables to stews and casseroles. You can add oatmeal to meatloaf, bread and cookies. Fruit is a great source of fiber. Have fruit as a snack, on cereal and in salads.</p>

Overweight people seek nutritionists&#8217; help more and more often, because when all diets seem to fail, they must really be in the wrong somewhere.</p>
<p> Nutritionists do not diagnose, they only recommend the best diet possible taking into consideration a number of factors such as: age, occupation, health condition, body structure, individual needs and preferences. You may need to constantly see your nutritionist for support, evaluation of results and diet adjustments. Once you learn the basic concepts you can continue on your own and with great success.</p>
