There are 60 stalls selling everything from locally-produced crafts and foodstuffs to jewellery to vintage clothing, homewares and collectables so you’re sure to find something to suit everyone.

Says organiser Gail Titchener, ‘Money’s always tight in January but a trip to the market is a great way for the whole family to spend Sunday together. Browsers are always welcome, and there will be lots of New Year bargains to be had!’

To add to the atmosphere, there will be great music from resident DJ Twisted Vinyl and a great selection of delicious homemade cakes, muffins and sandwiches in Silver Apples’ pop-up tearoom to treat yourself to.

Says Gail: ‘The market did so well in 2011. I’ve such positive feedback from people, all of whom have said how nice it is to see the market really busy again. We’ve lots of great things planned for the coming months so let’s hope that 2012 is another great year for us.’

This month’s market takes place in the historic covered market on Greenwood Street and admission, as always, is free.

The Trafford Partnership has launched a 100 day campaign to encourage and support community activity across the borough.

The aim of the 100 day campaign, which started on Friday 16th December 2011, is to reinforce the high standards of respect, decency and responsibility demonstrated in Trafford and encourages people both young and old to get involved in their local areas.

A calendar of 100 days of activity has been established including community groups, the Council, voluntary groups, Housing Associations, Police, Fire Service, Leisure Trust, Probation Service and Trafford College.

Over the course of the campaign, which runs from 16th December 2011 until 24th March 2012, the activities already lined up include community litter picks, awareness patrols, environmental works, allotment open days, activity sessions and sporting activities.

What are you doing this weekend?

Anything interesting or fun planned?

At Go SOUP eighteen of our members will be enjoying socialising at a local wine bar, six others are trying out some off-terrain mountain-biking, fully geared and trained up with specialists. Others are meeting up to walk their dogs or go for a jog and twelve of our members are heading off to a theme park.

Go SOUP was founded by Julie Hadall and a group of friends that have all found themselves in a situation where their immediate social circle was a bit scattered and not all in one place, making organising “going out” a bit limited.

They have formed Go SOUP for like-minded people trying to SOUP up their social life and enjoy an exciting mix of entertaining, challenging, sociable or fun things to do in their spare time

For further information visit their website at http://www.go-soup.co.uk or contact a member of the Go SOUP team on 08450348067.

Get unique Christmas presents at Altrincham’s Vintage and Craft Market this Sunday – 4th December 2011

In addition to the popular regular monthly market, this Sunday sees Altrincham hosting a one-off Christmas market in its main covered market on Greenwood Street market, and the lower market on the corner of Shaw Road (opposite the side entrance of Marks & Spencer’s).

Altrincham's Vintage Market on Sunday 4th December

There will be 70 stalls selling everything from locally-produced crafts and jewellery to vintage clothing, homewares and collectables, plus a pop-up tearoom with delicious homemade cakes and, now the weather’s getting chillier, mulled wine, plus live music from Twisted Vinyl and buskers.

Says organiser Gail Titchener: ‘It’s a great opportunity to shop locally for unique presents and instead of queuing for hours in packed shopping malls you’ll really enjoy yourself while you’re doing it.’

There will also be pedal-powered sleigh rides for the kids and afterwards they can visit Santa in his log cabin. The market takes place from 11–3.30pm and admission is free. Come down, find a great gift and give the socks a miss this year!

We received a huge response and collected more than 70 boxes from residents which were full of items including gloves, scarves, hats and socks which will help keep those most vulnerable warm over the festive period.

Our staff were keen to support Computers for Charities which has been running the appeal for the last seven years and whose work is vital to the survival of hundreds of vulnerable children and the elderly across the UK and beyond.
