There seems to be some mixed feelings in the air surrounding The Green Lantern and whether it can be a success. I definitely have my own doubts on the subject. After all, it is one of the lesser known heroes of the DC universe, with an even lesser known origin story. But weren't we at this same point regarding a comic book adaptation around a year and a half ago in regards to Iron Man? Questioning whether Jon Favreau could actually mold an action movie and origin story into something good using around $140 million or so?

Steven Soderbergh's legacy already seems to be set in stone: the filmmaker who skillfully (some might say deliberately) alternates between mainstream crowd pleasers and small time cerebral fare. In fact, the fluctuation is so balanced, that by this point, it's hard to ignore it for the (possible) gimmick that it is. Oh that Tara Reid, always popping up like a blip on the radar every few years. When she's not in rehab she's doing movies you and I will never see. A tragically short and uneventful cinematic life for this one. I first came across her nearly 10 years ago when she was offering to blow Jeff Bridges for a grand in The Big Lebowski. Riding the Coen coattails she was able to land a gig in the teen raunch-com American Pie, again playing the least favorite character of the movie.

But I'm not ready to sit down until I check out the crumpled posters that have been forced into the smudged lightboxes that line the corridors. And why? What do I find but disappointment - not in the movies they're selling, but the art they're trying to pass off as... Well, art.

But is that really what they're trying to do? We all know they have far more spectacular stuff up their sleeves.

It's no mystery that DVD cover art often tends to butcher everything it is about movies that we hold dear, despite there being perfectly acceptable poster artwork available for use. The latest case of this inhumanity to non-blind moviegoers can unfortunately be seen with the revealed DVD cover art of two of the best films of last year, Slumdog Millionaire and The Wrestler.
