Trailer for "Bad Lieutenant" Remake Leaves Us Confused/Intrigued/Exhilarated

Have you ever had the thought, "Why do they keep remaking the classics instead of trying to make bad movies better?" And, of course, we all know the answer is bankability. I don't think we should assume that anyone truly had a desire based purely on cinematic passion to remake Invasion of the Body Snatchers for the fourth time.

The only things more annoying than these sequels-of-remakes-of-comic-books-of-spin-offs-of-parodies-of-tv-shows are the people who whine about how Hollywood has run out of ideas. Because, obviously, they haven't!

Is $150 Million Enough To Replicate The Success of "Iron Man" for DC's "Green Lantern"?

There seems to be some mixed feelings in the air surrounding The Green Lantern and whether it can be a success. I definitely have my own doubts on the subject. After all, it is one of the lesser known heroes of the DC universe, with an even lesser known origin story. But weren't we at this same point regarding a comic book adaptation around a year and a half ago in regards to Iron Man? Questioning whether Jon Favreau could actually mold an action movie and origin story into something good using around $140 million or so?

Sex, Lies, and Digital Tape: "The Girlfriend Experience" Trailer Shows An Indie Godfather Getting it Right (Again)

Steven Soderbergh's legacy already seems to be set in stone: the filmmaker who skillfully (some might say deliberately) alternates between mainstream crowd pleasers and small time cerebral fare. In fact, the fluctuation is so balanced, that by this point, it's hard to ignore it for the (possible) gimmick that it is. And I for one have been, and will continue to be, on board for the whole show.

Oh that Tara Reid, always popping up like a blip on the radar every few years. When she's not in rehab she's doing movies you and I will never see. A tragically short and uneventful cinematic life for this one. I first came across her nearly 10 years ago when she was offering to blow Jeff Bridges for a grand in The Big Lebowski. Riding the Coen coattails she was able to land a gig in the teen raunch-com American Pie, again playing the least favorite character of the movie.

But I'm not ready to sit down until I check out the crumpled posters that have been forced into the smudged lightboxes that line the corridors. And why? What do I find but disappointment - not in the movies they're selling, but the art they're trying to pass off as... Well, art.

But is that really what they're trying to do? We all know they have far more spectacular stuff up their sleeves.

"Slumdog Millionaire" and "The Wrestler" Get Raped on DVD

It's no mystery that DVD cover art often tends to butcher everything it is about movies that we hold dear, despite there being perfectly acceptable poster artwork available for use. The latest case of this inhumanity to non-blind moviegoers can unfortunately be seen with the revealed DVD cover art of two of the best films of last year, Slumdog Millionaire and The Wrestler.

Saving the bigger eyesore for last, I'll start with The Wrestler.

Eddie Murphy's New Movie About Imagination Gets the Least Imaginative Poster Ever Made? Imagine That.

I am fully aware that nobody frequenting this site has even the slightest interest in Eddie Murphy's latest cesspool of kiddy-flick suckage that he's getting ready to unleash upon innocent, undeserving families*.

The final trailer for Wolverine has now been released, and for all those hoping the cheese-factor would be toned down some, I've got bad news. And for all those hoping the film wouldn't rape their favorite characters from the comics, I've got worse news.

Interested in writing for Always Watching?

I want writers who are capable of looking at a news item and finding something specific about it that stands out (whether it be humorous, bizarre or simply interesting/worthy of discussion), and then making that the focus of the article.

REVIEW: Friday the 13th

After my first few attempts to properly plumb the depths of producer Michael Bay's latest horror remake failed, I quickly realized that a simple written review was far too restricting. There was only so much I could convey with words when it came to the subtle intricacies of this rather brilliant reinvention of the slasher genre. A video review was the only logical option.

A Plea for Red Band Trailers in Theaters: New "Observe and Report" Trailer Would Be Nothing Without Its F-Bombs

With the recent resurgence of R-rated comedies, it's becoming more and more clear that the only way these films can continue to thrive with their target audience is if they're allowed to be seen as they actually are, with their red band trailers left intact. The newly released red band trailer for Seth Rogen's new film Observe and Report (directed by Jody Hill, of The Foot Fist Way previously) is a prime example of this.

International Poster for "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" Hints at Themes of Pedophilia, Homoeroticism

Having never read all the way through the Harry Potter series, I can only hazard a guess as to how exactly the story ends. Or, you know, I could also spend two minutes looking it up on Wikipedia, or God forbid, actually finish reading the books. But I digress... as of right now, the only information I have regarding the latest Harry Potter film is what's been provided through its marketing campaign.
