Synopsis

Seventeen year-old Kim is the pride and joy of her father Bryan Mills. Bryan is a retired agent who left the Secret Service to be near Kim in California. Kim lives with her mother Lenore and her wealthy stepfather Stuart. Kim manages to convince her reluctant father to allow her to travel to Paris with her friend Amanda. When the girls arrive in Paris they share a cab with a stranger named Peter, and Amanda lets it slip that they are alone in Paris. Using this information an Albanian gang of human traffickers kidnaps the girls. Kim barely has time to call her father and give him information. Her father gets to speak briefly to one of the kidnappers and he promises to kill the kidnappers if they do not let his daughter go free. The Smiths were an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1982. Based on the songwriting partnership of Morrissey (vocals) and Johnny Marr (guitar), the band also included Andy Rourke (bass) and Mike Joyce (drums). Critics have called them the most important alternative rock band to emerge from the British independent music scene of the 1980s.The group were signed to the independent record label Rough Trade Records, for whom they released four studio albums and several compilations, as well as numerous non-LP singles. Although they had limited commercial success outside the UK while they were still together, and never released a single that charted higher than number 10 in their home country, The Smiths won a growing following, and remain cult and commercial favourites. The band broke up in 1987 amid disagreements between Morrissey and Marr and have turned down several offers to reunite since then.

The Last of the Mohicans: Director’s Definitive Cut (1992) Blu-ray

Director Michael Mann based this lushly romantic version of the James Fenimore Cooper novel more on his memory of the 1936 film version (starring Randolph Scott) than on Cooper’s novel (in fact, Philip Dunne’s 1936 screenplay is cited as source material for this film). Set in the 1750s during the French and Indian War, the story concerns Hawkeye (Daniel Day-Lewis), the European-born adopted son of Mohican scout Chingachgook (Russell Means). Hawkeye and his party, which also includes the Mohican Uncas (Eric Schweig), joins up with a group of Britons who have recently arrived in the Colonies. The group consists of Cora Munro (Madeleine Stowe) and her younger sister, Alice (Jodhi May), who are rescued from a Huron war party by Hawkeye. Hawkeye’s band accompanies them to the British Fort William Henry, which is being besieged by a French and Huron force. The fort falls to the French, and Colonel Munro (Maurice Roeves) surrenders to French General Montcalm (Patrice Chéreau). The terms of the surrender are that the British merely abandon the fort and return to their homes. However, the French’s bloodthirsty ally, the Huron warrior Magua (Wes Studi), has made no such agreement, and, as the British retreat from the fort, he plans to massacre them in a terrible Huron attack.

The film opens with a statement from the filmmakers explaining their approach to the problem of filming Gandhi’s complex life story:
� �� No man’s life can be encompassed in one telling… least of all Gandhi’s, whose passage through life was so entwined with his nation’s struggle for freedom. There is no way to give each event its allotted weight, to recount the deeds and sacrifices of all the great men and women to whom he and India owe such immense debts. What can be done is to be faithful in spirit to the record of his journey, and to try to find one’s way to the heart of the man… ��
The film begins with Gandhi’s assassination on 30 January 1948, and his funeral. After an evening prayer, an elderly Gandhi is helped out for his evening walk to meet a large number of greeters and admirers. One of these visitors – Nathuram Godse – shoots him point blank in the chest. Gandhi exclaims, “Oh, God!” (“H? Ram!” historically), and then falls dead. The film then cuts to a huge procession at his funeral, which is attended by dignitaries from around the world.
The early life of Gandhi is not depicted in the film. Instead, the story flashes back 55 years to a life-changing event: in 1893, Gandhi is thrown off a South African train for being an Indian sitting in a first-class compartment despite having a ticket. Realising the laws are biased against Indians, he then decides to start a non-violent protest campaign for the rights of all Indians in South Africa. After numerous arrests and unwelcome international attention, the government finally relents by recognizing rights for Indians, though not for the native blacks of South Africa.
After this victory, Gandhi is invited back to India, where he is now considered something of a national hero. He is urged to take up the fight for India’s independence (Swaraj, Quit India) from the British Empire. Gandhi agrees, and mounts a non-violent non-cooperation campaign of unprecedented scale, coordinating millions of Indians nationwide. There are some setbacks, such as violence against the protesters and Gandhi’s occasional imprisonment.
Nevertheless, the campaign generates great attention, and Britain faces intense public pressure. Too weak from World War II to continue enforcing its will in India, Britain finally grants Indian independence. Indians celebrate this victory, but their troubles are far from over. Religious tensions between Hindus and Muslims erupt into nation-wide violence. Gandhi declares a hunger strike, saying he will not eat until the fighting stops.
The fighting does stop eventually, but the country is divided by religion. It is decided that the northwest area of India, and eastern part of India (current day Bangladesh), both places where Muslims are in the majority, will become a new country called Pakistan (West and East Pakistan respectively). It is hoped that by encouraging the Muslims to live in a separate country, violence will abate. Gandhi is opposed to the idea, and is even willing to allow Muhammad Ali Jinnah to become the first prime minister of India, but the Partition of India is carried out nevertheless.
Gandhi spends his last days trying to bring about peace between both nations. He thereby angers many dissidents on both sides, one of whom finally gets close enough to assassinate him in a scene at the end of the film that recalls the opening.
As Godse shoots Gandhi, the film fades to black and Gandhi is heard in a voiceover, saying “Oh God”. The audience then sees Gandhi’s cremation; the film ending with a scene of Gandhi’s ashes being scattered on the holy Ganga. As this happens, we hear Gandhi in another voiceover:
� �� When I despair, I remember that all through history the ways of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it–always. ��
As the list of actors is seen at the end, the hymn “Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram” is heard.

FANTASTIC PLASTIC MACHINE

Tomoyuki Tanaka (田中知之, tanaka tomoyuki) is a J-pop artist/DJ, better known by his stage name of Fantastic Plastic Machine. He is considered to be part of the Shibuya-kei movement, drawing heavily from bossa nova, lounge music, house music, and ’60s movie soundtracks, but he also incorporates many other types of music. Tanaka was born in Kyoto, Japan.

In the late 1980s, Tanaka played as the bassist in a rock band called Margarine Strikes Back. Then in the early 1990s, Tanaka became a regular club DJ in the Kansai area, working as part of a DJ team known as Sound Impossible. While playing with Sound Impossible, fellow artist and friend Towa Tei convinced Tanaka to go back to recording music, and in 1997 Tanaka created his solo project Fantastic Plastic Machine under the Readymade Records label in Japan. His first two albums, The Fantastic Plastic Machine (1997) and Luxury (1998), were critically acclaimed and gained him international recognition. The albums were distributed in the United States under the Emperor Norton label, and in Europe on the Bungalow label. In Japan, he is currently under the cutting edge label.

At one point, Tanaka hosted a pop culture show on national radio, and in 2004 he hosted another radio show called “Sound Concierge.” He also once served as the editor for the Japanese fashion magazine Brutus.

DIMITRI FROM PARIS

Dimitri from Paris (born Dimitri Yerasimos in October 1963) is a French producer and DJ. Contrary to his musical pseudonym, he was born not in Paris but in Istanbul, Turkey.

He started out by DJ’ing at the French station Radio 7, before moving on to Skyrock and finally NRJ, one of the top radio groups in France, in 1986. There, he introduced the first ever house music show to be broadcast in France, while simultaneously producing runway soundtracks for fashion houses such as Chanel, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Hermès and Yves Saint-Laurent. He also released two solo EPs from 1993 to 1994, and contributed to the Yellow Productions compilation La Yellow 357.

In 1996 Dimitri released his first full album, Sacrebleu. Subtly blending a variety of styles ranging from jazz to samba to house, Sacrebleu sold 300,000 copies worldwide and was named Album of the Year by Mixmag magazine. He followed this up with A Night at the Playboy Mansion and Disco Forever in 2000, My Salsoul in 2001, After the Playboy Mansion in 2002 and most recently Cruising Attitude in 2003

thirdiq is the solo project of Japanese guitarist/producer, Yukihiro Atsumi. Yukihiro mainly works in the field of JAZZ, FUNK, R＆B, SOUL,HIPHOP, HOUSE, AMBIENT. Before starting thirdiq, he has worked with various big names such as ANANDA PROJECT, Shuya Okino, TEI TOWA, Yu Sakai, DJ Yutaka,DJ KAWASAKI,Hanah,Hiroki Kashiwagi as producer,guitarist. He also belongs to the band called JAMNUTS which is a project of Top 30 professional players in Tokyo.They released 1st album “Nu JAM” in 2007.Yokihiro produced 3 songs in this album. DJ Kawasaki is a somewhat of a newcomer, a rookie if you will. However shortly after he released his debut album “Beautiful” in fall of 2006, he became a staple and a new ambassador for Japanese club and dance music.

He usually makes his own original compositions in music in addition to remixing other people’s songs. The reason why I call him Mr. MPC 3000 is that he is known for using an Akai MPC 3000 drum machine for making his fabulous beats.

The album is made up of 10 original tracks and it starts off with a short introduction track. The intro is a slow solo piano melody of the second track “Beautiful” which sounds very sophisticated, smooth, and mellow. The second track Beautiful is probably DJ Kawasaki’s show piece and main single off the album (hence the title of the album), but for myself I like track 3 “Save Your Love” best of all! Save Your Love is real hard hitting house complete with synths, horns, a heavy beat, and strong bass. It is so easy to dance to Save Your Love, and when you do, you will shake your butt… Hard! The song just sends chills through my body, it sounds so good.

In 2007 DJ Kawasaki released a sophomore album of more of his productions & remixes called “Beautiful Too”. I highly recommend this album as well.

It has all four of the studio albums released by the Lou Reed-led lineup, and a wealth of previously unreleased goodies. Is it an essential purchase? That depends on your level of fanaticism. Most serious Velvet fans have all four of the core studio albums already (although the third, self-titled LP is presented in its muffled, so-called "closet" mix), and will be most interested in the previously unavailable recordings, which do hold considerable fascination. The entire first disc is devoted to a drummer-less 1965 rehearsal tape in John Cale's loft, with radically different, almost folky run-throughs of most of the important songs from their classic debut, as well as a song that only made it onto Nico's first LP ("Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams"), and one which makes its first appearance anywhere (the Dylanesque "Prominent Men"). Other big bonuses include no less than seven outtakes from Loaded and other songs re-done by Reed on his early solo albums. And there are sundry other unreleased live and studio items, highlighted by a scorching live 1967 "Guess I'm Falling in Love" and the 1969 demo "Countess From Hong Kong." There are also highlights from VU and Another View, longer versions of Loaded's "Sweet Jane" and "New Age," and an 80-page booklet. The thing is, though, that virtually everyone who's interested in this material has already bought the four studio albums, sometimes several times over.

Winterplay is a group consisting of 4 jazz members. Juhan Lee on the trumpet, Enkyu So on Bass, Woojoon Choi on Guitar & Vocal and Haewon on Vocal. It is unique in the way, that each individual by themselves have already been recognized as accomplished musicians and soloists in their own rights, but have gathered for this project to have created a sound that does not highlight the individuals, but a solid musical repertoire that has grabbed the attention of many non-jazz fans and the press as well, who see them as a pop-jazz group.

The Duckworth Lewis Method are an Irish pop group formed by Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy and Thomas Walsh of Pugwash. The Duckworth Lewis Method is also the title of the group's only album, which was released on 3 July 2009, a few days before the start of the 2009 Ashes series. A concept album about cricket, the album has 12 tracks one of which is instrumental. The album was mixed and recorded in Dublin Abbey Road Studios. and was mastered at

Hannon and Walsh have described their album as "a kaleidoscopic musical adventure through the beautiful and rather silly world of cricket."

The track 'Jiggery Pokery' features guest cameo performances from Phill Jupitus, Alexander Armstrong, Matt Berry and more. Berry also features on the track 'Mason on the Boundary'.

On 9 September 2009 the band were put on hiatus

Charles Edward Anderson "Chuck" Berry (born October 18, 1926) is an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter, and one of the pioneers of rock and roll music. With songs such as "Maybellene" (1955), "Roll Over Beethoven" (1956), "Rock and Roll Music" (1957) and "Johnny B. Goode" (1958), Chuck Berry refined and developed rhythm and blues into the major elements that made rock and roll distinctive, with lyrics focusing on teen life and concerns and utilizing guitar solos and showmanship that would be a major influence on subsequent rock music.[1]
Born into a middle class family in St. Louis, Missouri, Berry had an interest in music from an early age and gave his first public performance at Sumner High School. While still a high school student he served a prison sentence for armed robbery between 1944 and 1947. On his release, Berry settled into married life and worked at an automobile assembly plant. By early 1953, influenced by the guitar riffs and showmanship techniques of blues player T-Bone Walker, he was performing in the evenings with the Johnnie Johnson Trio.[2] His break came when he traveled to Chicago in May 1955, and met Muddy Waters, who suggested he contact Leonard Chess of Chess Records. With Chess he recorded "Maybellene"—Berry%27s adaptation of the country song "Ida Red"—which sold over a million copies, reaching #1 on Billboard%27s Rhythm and Blues chart. By the end of the 1950s, Berry was an established star with several hit records and film appearances to his name, as well as a lucrative touring career. He had also established his own St. Louis-based nightclub, called Berry%27s Club Bandstand. But in January 1962 Berry was sentenced to three years in prison for offenses under the Mann Act—he had transported a 14-year-old girl across state lines.
After his release in 1963 Berry had several more hits, including "No Particular Place To Go", "You Never Can Tell", and "Nadine", but these did not achieve the same success, or lasting impact, of his 1950s songs, and by the 1970s he was more in demand as a nostalgic live performer, playing his past hits with local backup bands of variable quality.[2] His insistence on being paid cash led to a jail sentence in 1979—four months and community service for tax evasion.
Berry was among the first musicians to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on its opening in 1986, with the comment that he "laid the groundwork for not only a rock and roll sound but a rock and roll stance."[5] Berry is included in several Rolling Stone "Greatest of All Time" lists, including being ranked fifth on their 2004 list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.[6] The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame%27s 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll included three of Chuck Berry%27s songs: "Johnny B. Goode", "Maybellene", and "Rock and Roll Music".[7] Now in his eighties, Berry continues to play live.

As a Nina lover, I liked this CD. It makes a good effort at bringing together a varied combination of tunes to give an overview of her musical versatility and possibly a great way to introduce her work to someone who may not know much about it (and believe it or not, there are quite a few people out there!). The choice of songs is interesting because there%27s a bit of everything... love, despair, hope, anger...
I disagree with other reviews that question the choice of recordings because of her voice. I think you can appreciate the maturity of her voice in some of the songs and of course, she was not going to sound like in the 60s forever, but I think that until her last performance she made songs her own and the strength of her character and performance came across every time.
