In less than a week I will be flying to Springfield, Missouri for the incredible Respect Tour at the Gilloz Theater, featuring performances by Jonny Diaz, myself, and others! I’m just one of the performers and speakers — my speech being specifically geared toward respect of the mind, body, and soul. Afterward, there’s an autograph session and a chance to grab your own copy of the ASP DVD and gear! The night will be entertaining and empowering; you’ll be glad you came! In about a month, I will be speaking at iPourLife, a super event held in Springfield, Missouri for girls and young women. It falls on the evening of February 6th, and includes performances by award-winning artist Jonny Diaz (I’ve written about him before) and myself, and messages from the successful and empowering Dr. Juliet Caceres, the creator Ms. Julie Higgins, as well as myself. I’ll be speaking on “Respect” — and more specifically on “Respect of the mind, body, and soul”. The evening will benefit three special causes, including the Care to Learn fund, the Los Angeles refugee camp of Santa Ana, El Salvador, and Kids Against Hunger. Friends, I say this in love…

Hey there,

I have something important to share, and I hope you’ll readily receive this message:

It pains my heart to see my generation lying around, using their teen years as an excusable “transition-phase” so they can avoid taking on responsibilities before it’s necessary. This period is intended to be the launching pad for our futures! Do you think that the less-than-convicted habits you’re forming and apathetic character you’re developing will magically transform into a successful adulthood without any action taken by you? Friends, we’re setting ourselves up for mediocrity. We pride ourselves on being the “do-something” generation, yet most of us are still wasting multiple hours web surfing every night. Did you forget that we have one life here on earth? Please do not get distracted by temporary matters. Who’s dating who does not contribute positive change to society. Worrying over who’s rocking the latest threads will not help you lead a fulfilled life. The glittering, shiny things wear off; they tarnish. So invest your time and money in something purposeful. Everyone has a gift, along with potential to use it. And it’s unfair to the millions of lives you were created to touch if you don’t follow your calling. Please, friends, I encourage you to look at yourself in the mirror and ask, “Who do I really want to be today? tomorrow? in 10 years? What small steps and giant leaps do I need to take to get there?” Friends, dare to dream. We have an imagination for a reason. Write down your wildest dreams and then create an action plan to make it happen. Stay focused on improving your character and skills (instead of nit-packing others’ flaws) so you’ll be prepared to fly when the opportunity arises. You were created to do amazing things, and I’m not going to let you fail. You are strong. You are valued. You are loved, and you are gifted. Do not waste your life.

For inspiration, research 3 past, positive world-changers. For example, read about Martin Luther King, jr.’s life, or Nelson Mandela’s famous speeches. Or, check out these books:

Did you know that the human brain can hold up to 5 times the amount of information as the encyclopedia has? It amazes me how detailed and complex the human mind is.. it was created for an amazing purpose! So next time you use the excuse of “not being able to remember dates” for your history test, forget about it… there’s room in there. Keep studying. Haha!!

Hope all is well! And for the record, I struggle with history dates, too.

My Halloween Story…

A little known fact about me: I haven’t ever really dressed up for Halloween. One year I was the caterpillar from A Bug’s Life while all my other friends were fairies or cool creatures… :-/ Then, I put my basketball team shorts on every other year and claimed my costume was “a basketball player.” Creative, I know. More recently, after I shot “Alice Upside Down,” I attended a small Halloween party with one of the cast members, put on sweatpants, and called myself a “personal trainer.” Lame! I just prefer to stay home and hand out candy. Also, I don’t enjoy scary things–putting that kind of unnecessary fear in my heart? And those freaky images? NO THANKS!

So, I’ll be going to a small gathering with a few close friends, where we’ll be playing improv games, discussing other important events that happened on October 31st, like the 95 Theses that Martin Luther submitted to the Roman Catholic Church or Nevada’s admission as the 36th state! Goooo history!

Hope you all enjoy your Saturday, regardless of whether you celebrate big, small, freaky, pleasantly, or not at all! Talk to you soon!

My friend sent me a link to an amazing music video by Jonny Diaz, pointing out the distortion and falsity of Hollywood’s (so-called) glamorous lifestyle. Typically, someone outside of the business would be Diaz’ target demographic, but I’m living proof that actresses, dancers, singers, and models themselves need to see this, too. It affected me so deeply, for a few reasons. First, I’m a part of this industry, though the illusions of beauty and perfection are never ones I condone. It breaks my heart to see my generation struggling and exhausting themselves to recreate this image that not even the subject upholds. And even stars within the business fall into the vicious cycle of being insecure, altering their look to find comfort, then once again falling short of satisfaction. So, I encourage every reader, guys included, to visit this link and see what Jonny Diaz has to say about this. He, a man of integrity, hit it spot on with his words, “there could never be a more beautiful you.” Enjoy!

I’m listening to “Anything’s Possible” by Jonny Lang, and suddenly I’ve become unusually inspired. For awhile now, my days have ceased to be distinctive; instead, they’ve blended in with the rest. The special moment-to-moment experiences that I used to savor, have now begun blurring together. But at this admission, something in my deepest core is disturbed, unsettled, depressed by this. It’s my undying passion to pursue my dream through thick and thin. Though I may falter, and make countless mistakes (sometimes the same one over and over), I cannot be shaken. If I truly plan to make a difference, I must be a pioneer for my generation, a wise leader willing to plow new ground, be mocked and ridiculed for resisting conformity, and so full of love that it overflows into the lives of those around me. And while I hope I’m not alone, since four hands are more capable than two, I am ready to face the music on my own. So what if I dance to the beat of my own drum? We’re individuals, aren’t we? So, I encourage you to listen to Jonny’s song and see if you’re not inspired like I was! Write down your dream, and get to it! Don’t wait! The world’s greatest leaders didn’t wait until they were adults to handle business. They did it NOW!
