10th Kerala Pay Revision Commission Report

The 10th Kerala Pay Revision Commission has submitted its report today by the commissioner retired high court judge C N Ramachandran Nair, and it is available in the official site(http://prc2014.kerala.gov.in/). The pay revision commission has recommended a minimum basic pay of Rs. 17,000/- which was earlier Rs. 8,500/-. The new master scale would be 17,000-1,20,000 from the earlier 8,500-59,840. The commission has recommended that the revised pay should be implemented with retrospective effect from July, 2014 by merging 80% DA. There will be a fitment benefit of 12%. Service weightage will be .5% for every completed year of service. The HRA will be between 1,000-3,000 based on the pay scale and the place of residence. Daily allowance which is Rs. 250/- at present will be raised to Rs. 400/-. The commission also recommended that the minimum age limit for full pension be reduced to 25 years and the age for pension be increased to 58 years. The report on implementing medical insurance to government employees and other such matters will be submitted by the commission in the next report since the period of the kerala pay revision commission has been extended.

2 Wheelers are the biggest accident causers? HELL NO!!!

It is a misconception that 2 wheelers are the biggest accident causers. Yes, they make up a fair share of the total number of accidents taking place in Kerala, but that is because larger number of 2 wheelers ply on road compared to other vehicles. I have prepared a comparison chart from data available from government websites. Look at the accident causer index which gives an idea of how much a particular category of vehicle is the causer of accidents.

32% of accidents are caused by 2 wheelers but that is because more than 60% of vehicles plying on roads are 2 wheelers...whereas the rest of the 70% of the accidents are caused by the remaining 40% of which a major share of accidents are caused by vehicles running for commercial purposes driven by paid professional drivers...these drivers have to be educated, trained and counselled in order to reduce accidents...
2 wheeler riders are more prone injuries compared to other vehicles, and hence the riders should wear protective gear to avoid fatal injuries. Wearing helmet is important because most of the deaths during accidents are caused due to head injuries.

The Poor Petrol Tax Payer...

Petrol prices are being raised like never before after the UPA government deregulated the Petrol price and gave the power of deciding petrol prices to the Oil Companies. The justification is that Petrol is a rich man's fuel. But this is not at all true. If that is what the govt. wants then why don't they put the burden of Diesel, Kerosene and LPG on AVIATION FUEL? We would all agree that even a sweeper NRI working in the "Gulf " is rich compared to others in India. But since the consumers of aviation fuels are private sector companies, the govt wouldn't do that, since the UPA govt. gets "funds and Donations" from these private sector companies.

We all hear that the oil companies are raising the fuel prices because the crude oil prices are rising and the value of rupee is diminishing. The price of crude oil on Jun 2010 was $75/bbl and the price of petrol was Rs.52, Now the price of crude oil is $100/bbl (33%) and the price of petrol is Rs, 70/-(40% increase). This is not justified. The oil companies have never reduced the price even though the crude oil price has reduced after April 2011.

The taxation on petrol prices are unjustified. The central and state taxes contributes to almost 50% of the total price. And this taxation induces more pressure on the poor rather than the rich citizens. See the table below.

POOR FAMILY

Average income of a middle class family : 60,000/-

Money spent on petrol every week (TVS 50) : 200/-

Money spent on petrol everty year : 200 X 54 = 10,800/-

Money given to govt as tax (almost 50% ) : 5400/-

Ratio of petrol tax on income : ~ 9%

LOWER MIDDLE CLASS FAMILY

Average income of a middle class family : 2,40,000/-

Money spent on petrol every week (HH CD 100) : 500/-

Money spent on petrol everty year : 500 X 54 = 27,000/-

Money given to govt as tax (almost 50% ) : 13,500/-

Ratio of petrol tax on income : ~ 6%

MIDDLE MIDDLE CLASS FAMILY

Average income of a middle class family : 6,00,000/-

Money spent on petrol every week (Bajaj Pulser

Money spent on petrol everty year : 1000 X 54 = 54,000/-

Money given to govt as tax (almost 50% ) : 27,000/-

Money spent on petrol every week (Honda City) : 1500/-

Money spent on petrol everty year : 1500 X 54 = 81,000/-

Money given to govt as tax (almost 50% ) : 40,500/-

Ratio of petrol tax on income : ~ 3%

UPPER CLASS FAMILY

Average income of an upper class family : 1,00,00,000/- and above

Money spent on petrol every week (Skoda fabia,
toyota corolla, BMW 5, Audi A8,
Mitsubishi Pajero Etc) : 5000/-

Money spent on petrol everty year : 5000 X 54 = 2,70,000/-

Money given to govt as tax (almost 50% ) : 1,35,000/-

Ratio of petrol tax on income : ~ 1%

This classification is imaginary...the actual condition is much worse. Half of India's population earns less than Rs. 50,000/- an year. Only 25% of the population can be considered as middle class and above.

From the above calculation we can understand that the burden of tax is more on the poor than the rich.

The justification that petrol is rich peoples fuel is UNTRUE. Taxing poor people at higher rates should be stopped immediately. We should all protest to this draconian cruelty of the UPA govt. to the Citizens of India...

9th Pay Revision Commission submitted report to CM...

The 9th Pay Revision Commission headed by the Chairman Justice Rajendra Babu(Rtd.) submitted the report to CM today. The commission has recommended a minimum pay of `8500/- and a maximum pay of `59840/-. Minimum annual increment will be `230/- and maximum is `1200/-. 67% DA will be merged with the existing pay.Thus the minimum hike in pay would be `1104/- and maximum will be `4490/-.

GCRD(Gratuity) limit will be raised from `3.3 lakhs to `7 lakhs. Leave Travel Concession(LTC) will be introduced for the first time to employees with service more than 15 years. Service benefit of .5% per year will be given, ie. maximum of 15% for 30 years of service. Paternity leave of 10 days will be granted for the first two children born.

The pay rise would be implemented from April 1st 2011 w.e.f July 2009. Pensioners would get a rise of 12% in their pension.

Minimum pension would be `4500/-. Pensioners aged above 70, 80, 100 would be considered as separate category and they would have greater pension benefits. The commission has recommended a new department for pension. The commission has also recommended that the employees should be given training for improving their behaviour with the general public.

The part time contingent employees will have a separate pay scale for the first time in Kerala. The commission has also recommended rise in daily wages. It has been recommended to make +2 with computer knowledge as the minimum qualification for LD Clerks and Typists. HRA, CCA and TA will also be raised.

The finance minister Dr. Thomas Issac said that the necessary funds would be included in the budget for the year 2011-12.

2010 has been good even though I had lots of bad experiences, All's Well That Ends Well... December has been so good to me, like the last year. Christmas Bash was celebrated like last year but it was not as joyful as last year, maybe due to lack of Tequila...; bought an Android phone, Met schoolmates after a long time when I went to attend a friends wedding(Arun Kumar's).

Last year I had planned new year resolutions that lasted just for a week. So this year I am not planning any plans... Dont know why plans never work. Anyways, Happy new year to all...May this year bring lots of joy to your life...

As far as I can remember ... In the first discussion of "decision of my career" happened when I was 3 or 4 yrs old. My aunt(mother's sister) who used to stay at Katni, MP, India told me - "you become a "PILOT""!!!

I said "OK I am going to be a pilot...from what they said ....what I thought was that PILOT was the biggest job!!! They are above (fly over) even the President of USA!!! Hmm... That thought ended then and there...

As far as I can remember ... In the second thought of what I would become - I decided - "I want to become a computer professional" ...This was when I first started using computers; when I was studying in KV1, Naval Base, Kochi. in 5th standard...The computers configuration was - 66Mhz (My phone is more than twice faster ( N73 )), It had 512 RAM!!! 512KB...hehhehe ie. 1/1000th space of the PC that I am typing on! and it had a 5 1/4" floppy disk drive ( I dont know if I am exaggerating )!!! Hey I just searched on google, to make sure that I was not Exaggerating but dood(dude) ...there was an 8" FDD!!! OMG!!! Hmm... I thought what I used the first computer on earth...I forgot that Charles Babbage was the first person to make ( and use ) a computer...Hmm...

As far as I can remember... the third discussion I remember about deciding my career ... - took place when I was studying in 7th. My friend Vikas made a water cooler with tape recorder motor...WOW... I thought... A fan that rotates when u connect 2 wires to a 9v battery??? Yeah I know, Yeah I know! The ceiling fan rotates with much less difficulty...hehehe...but I was so amazed and so jealous of Vikas... He is rich, I thought...He managed to get a motor ( which he might have got free from a tape recorder technician ), He has a 9v battery ( the motor would run even from a exhausted dry cell picked up from garbage... which I saw for the first time in my life in Vikas's hand If i remember right...Then I decided that I would do something in Electronics...When indulging in my hobby...I was damn happy if I get something related to Elex...like a broken radio or dry cell...or green coloured PCBs. I found out that they make the things (components) stick to the PCB using Lead (Solder). I bought Solder wire and dint know how to use it...( I never knew that a thing called soldering iron existed!). I knew that they melt it and use it as a glue to make the things get stuck to the PCB (green coloured). I lit up the candle and melted the solder wire but in vain...I gained some burns and knowledge... sorry enlightenment that there must be some tool to stick the thing to PCB... My father who somehow saw me melting the lead on candle and getting myself burned, bought me a soldering iron...costing Rs. 18 ( if I remember right ). I was so happy...Happiness to the peak. An then started my electronics hobby... - open elex gadgets dis-assemble the components from PCB...(WOW What a great job! - I said to myself!!!).

As far as I can remember...The next thought came when some teacher was asking everybody - "What is ur ambition ?" I had the answer in 2 mins... Computer engineer... I knew that computer guys make lots of money. But dint know that EC guys do the software jobs ... Hmm ... My hobby was elex but I wanted to become computer engineer to make more money ... How greedy I was then... Shame on me...

In 7th standard we had BASIC programming. We used to make addition , subtraction, division and multiplication programs. We had made graphics program also- circle, circle like target board, rectangle, triangle etc. We used to hate it but we had to do that for 3/4th the time so that we cold play "Prince of Persia" on the only colour computer for 10 mins. 7 of us (Saju C Rajan was the leader- He was the best player and his dad had a computer in his office and Saju used to go to his father's office to "learn" computer... Hmm... My only chance was the school bus girl's ( girl with steel kind of a thing to support her legs, I don't remember her name ) father's office. who used to show me how to use the computer...

Today I got a message from mytoday.com (in which i have signed up to get regular news updates) saying "twitter traffic up 700%". Now I thought- What is twitter? This made me instantly log on to google and find out what twitter was?( I could have typed twitter and ctrl enter but it has become a habit to search google).
The link showed up and i clicked on it...And here it was twitter.com that answerd my questions What? why? and How? before i could ask...And to top it up there was this video which explained it all...which tempted me to sign up( but i already have lots of user ids and passwords which make me think if i should add one more to the list(anyways all the usernames and passwords are the same which makes me think one website would use that to enter into my other account and use all the confidential patent pending information...(what a paranoid am i?)) so i didnt). But i tell u this one is going to be a sure winner and has started making news.

One whole month at Pathanamthitta

This one can be said as the first "on site" work we got. The work started on 23 Jan and has officially been completed on 28 Feb. We went to provide project guidance for 64 students of 3rd yr B.Tech E&C and 55 students of 4th yr B.Tech E&C. The place was boring at first because only two of us were there but to the end we didn't get much bored when others joined. We had a great time with the 3rd yr students who were very shy at first but later due to our "programmes" they all mingled with us. But later the situation went out of control and the lecturers over there asked us to stop all kinds of extra curricular activities. So due to this when the training for the senior students started we were more conservative in our approach and behaved like strict trainers. The project development of senior students were more easier even though the projects were more complicated, but the mini projects were lagging due to hardware and circuit problems. Anyways the stay at pathanamthitta is over and we are back in our office ready for the next venture.

At last we went for the tour but as usual we changed the plan at the last moment and decided to go for Mysore. But unlike other tours we went, this was a planned tour and hence, nothing worked out according to plan. We had booked the car weeks ago but at the last moment we found out that there is no car. And then 'I' was into action and arranged a car with much difficulty. But it was a qualis and it had a cassette player. We wanted a car with a CD player as we had already planned the songs that we're gonna play. Fortunately there was this other car a TOYOTA INNOVA with a CD player. We started the tour at 2 O clock midnight. Meanwhile some of us had boozed out because of the depression that we wont be able to go for the trip. They found out details of house boat in alapuzha as we had already taken leave and going to the office was "out of the question". We put the boozers into the car who were unconcious and later everything went according to plan and as usual we enjoyed a lot as all the male members of our office were present. This is gonna be the last tour I guess as all of us are searching for better jobs and we'll all be far apart within a couple of months.

Dont know why we all wanna tour every now and then. It hasn't been a fortnight we went to kodai, now another trip has been planned and that too to PONDY. Those F*****S(my collegues) are crazy about driving especially Mr. Sanoon who bloody lost his license. Last time we 'lost' 300 bucks cause of the 'lost' licence. I have no 'VOICE' before him cause I lost my bikes RC book last year in B'lore(thanks to Arun) and I am still going through the process of getting a duplicate. I think a tour on bike would have been a far better and enjoyable option- maybe because i am a bike freak and i dont know driving(cars). But if people without license drive then I am also going to drive. People, wish me luck and long life.........

So i finally started writing. Dont know how long it will last? I can't remember a single resolution that lasted for more than a week. But i thought one should write a book, when i read ' God of small things' by Arundhathi Roy - one book that i could complete reading, ever, in my whole life. Simple it may seem but i know i would take a lifetime to write a book 1/1000 th the qulality of 'God of small things'. But i am a very stubborn guy- i never give up. Making a decision is very simple, but how to stick to it is the question? One other thing i can never do is saying 'NO' to someone. Its easy to say NO to your mom but if a friend asks for a favour which you dont wanna do, then there is problem. What am i writing? "Chinthakal kaadu kayarukayaanu"- 'thoughts are climbing forests'. This is enough for a start. Let me see if i can continue this...
