Goodbye 2010!

What an incredible year. It's so difficult to look back and not think negatively. BUT from all the disappointments, heartaches, let-downs, and traumatic events - I feel so much stronger and ready to conquer the world! Life is moving forward and overall I am happy. In 2011 my main focus will be on my career changes.

Back in the Studio

So I'm back to work in my studio and I've started with some wax rings. Some are rings back from my metalsmithing classes that needed repairs and quite a few new ones. This picture below shows what is being worked on, just need to polish and refine. Then onto casting! I now have my own casting system and plan to cast once a month. Please contact me if you're would like a custom cast piece of jewelry!

I've also working on these blank-white-nameless people for a necklace.

House Fire

My house was destroyed in a fire this week, I am displaced but got out along with my pets and for that I am most thankful. I lost everything. So this blog will have to be placed on hold until I have time to update. I really just want to get everything back to normal but there are so many things to sort out before that can happen. I will start updating soon and thank you to all of my family and friends for there support. Simple words cannot express how much it is appreciated.

RA No Longer Attached to Charlie

Argh!!! I said I wouldn't post anymore about Richard Armitage but I just can't keep quiet.

I just sat in on the chat director Mike O. had for the announcement/explanation of Richard's departure from the project. First of all, being in a chat room is annoying for so many reasons and doubly so with ALL women. Gah... common pleasantries should be eliminated in chat rooms. Every person that comes in the room there are "Hello _____" from every person that was already in the room. Grrr. Then the questions started firing off after Mike had said "I'll start..." There is a TIME and a PLACE to shut your mouth.

Mike stayed for 25 minutes and basically said that Richard doesn't have the 10 weeks available to film as he has other commitments in "TV land." It was Mike's decision to no longer cast Richard as Charlie.

Initially I'm thinking, RA is doomed to TV. He's in a good place with the TV shows/specials and the voice-overs and likes to keep busy (and voice-over move is sa-weet) BUT BUT BUT ... as an artist... ugh. There are so many actors that take every offer that comes there way and I'm afraid he's turning out to do just that (hope I'm wrong). I just wish he'd push himself more as an artist, I wanna see bare bones. The closest to squirming I've seen was in George Gently as Rickey Deeming when he had to smoke, I could see how put off he was with the smoking - I don't believe he ever took a drag, just held the cigarette, but that's the character - a shit-liar-motorcycle-riding-smoker, embrace it. Ahh but he looked good though, right. Right?

So, in summary, I'm a bit disappointed that we won't see him star in a feature length film. I do hope that more film offers come his way that really push him as an actor, cause I want to hate him. If you know what I mean. I certainly don't want him to one day offer his sperm or escort service on a website in desperation to make some money (cough cough click the link for Vincent Gallo sperm).

One last thought on the subject, I *really* hope that RA was not used to get this project off the ground. I am a skeptic and think the worst of people, mostly. SO I really hope it was just a matter of not being able to work around RA's schedule BUT it does make me wonder. RA's fan base is quite large (forums/websites/blogs) which is easy to get this project around the interwebs well before it's even been funded. Makes me sick to think of it, but sometimes Der Teufel steckt im Detail.

Downloading Nancy

So I love my Roku for Netflix, but the updating is getting about ridiculous. Netflix, if you are listening please update with older movies, and update more frequently and perhaps personalize just a little by offering what is in my queue. Obviously the stream is geared toward a certain audience but I'm a paying customer too. I've watched movies I never would have watched just because the updating is so slow. As suspected, they were awful. Still love you Netflix, but come on.

I did, however get to see a streaming movie I wanted to see: "Downloading Nancy." Could I love Jason Patric anymore or Rufus Sewell? I absolutely love the score which is unfortunately not available ANYWHERE. It's a tragic little tale and apparently based on true events. I have to say that in the middle of all of that sadness and despair there is a beautiful love scene. I found it online and I hesitate to post it as you have to see it in order but - maybe it will make you want to see it!

Also worked on some pendants. I've not really been inspired since my studio rehab. I feel a bit out of sorts all organized. So this is the most I've accomplished. I'm still messing with them and will pour resin for shiny-clear-dome-goodness.

The Last Station, V-Day, Captain Phil Harris

I was really excited when I saw a still from Festen (The Celebration) in the culture section of The Guardian today in a list of the top five worst Dad's in film. The film isn't even on the list (boohoo) but it's a good list, worth mentioning. You can find it here.

Also looking forward to the upcoming film The Last Station a love story set during the last year of the life of the great Russian writer Leo Tolstoy. Watch the trailer below.

Oh dreaded V-Day is quickly approaching, I have so many hearts incorporated into my jewelry but with a studio rehab I can't get it all listed in time. My studio has for over a year now been completely disorganized due to lack of time and [partly] laziness. I couldn't stand it anymore so I went out and bought storage containers and shelving. The shelving is assembled the storage containers are now ALL full and now I'm just waiting to move a gigantic butcher table (that was a gift from my great aunt) out of there. It seemed like a good idea at the time to have a table the length of the wall in the studio but it's ended up to just take up way too much room so it's going. Once that's gone I can put in the shelving and really get things sorted. I can't wait! It's the little things in life, you see.

I have a lot of projects coming up that I will share with you very soon. Until then I will annoy you all with my random ramblings.

And sadly today Captain Phil Harris died. He's from Discovery Channels "Deadliest Catch" about the dangerous job as an Alaskan fisherman. Just last week I watched Season's 1-4 because I love the show so much. I am really sad, he was only 53. I hope his family and friends are coping with this tragic time in their lives, especially his sons' that worked beside him on the Cornelia Marie.

W-a-y back on October 12th, 2009 I made a silly post about RA which generated a lot of hits from all over the world, more hits than when I uploaded the Colbert/Martin video (those have FINALLY tapered off). But still, 3 months later I get daily hits from curious souls about RA's personal life as it's always his name and then the word "girlfriend." I'm going to great lengths here to NOT type in the actual words because that will just generate even more hits. Bing Bing Bing.

If all these fleeting people would clickity-click on the adverts I'd be more than grateful (I'm a poor artist, gimme a break) but alas! they do not. Which only leaves me feeling used. Is it my layout, my frank approach to the subject, overzealous "fans," or just flat out stupidity? Does it even really matter? Just exit my page on the google ad and we'll just ignore your wham-bam-thank-you-mam attitude and call it even. Deal? If that doesn't work at least leave a comment!

Ah, but those over-stimulated beings will not get this message and I will be posting this in vain, but I have .00009% faith in the human race. Now onto the subject at hand...

RA and the commotion he stirs online.

I get it, he's H-O-T. His voice purrs in your head long after he stops talking. He is aesthetically perfect. He's charming. He's positive. He's single. He's modest. I get it.

Is he holding back as an artist? Absolutely! But no one cares to hear my opinion on the matter.

When I go through my keyword activity on this blog I try to imagine the person typing in those words. I guess they are just curious too, about him. He should use that to his benefit IMO. He could be making some serious money instead of wasting time sending bi-yearly letters to forums. I just get really annoyed with other people cashing in on the hard work of someone else. Which is why I'm so torn about even posting about this subject matter. I haven't made more than $2.00 on Google ads so don't look at me on my two posts about RA. This isn't an RA blog, but this is the 3rd time I've posted about him. Sigh.

Haiti and One Mango Tree

So sad about the devastion in Haiti right now, I wish I could do more but AT&T has setup an easy way to send $10 for the relief effort. This is from their website:

In response to the horrific earthquake in Haiti, the AT&T Foundation is providing a $50,000 donation to Télécoms Sans Frontières (TSF) the leading international humanitarian organization specializing in emergency telecommunications.

Wireless customers of AT&T can send $10 donations to the Red Cross International Relief Fund by sending a text message from their mobile device. Standard text messaging rates may apply.

A customer simply types the word HAITI and sends it to 90999. A confirmation message will arrive within a few minutes, to which the customer replies “yes” to finalize the donation.

100 percent of all money donated will be passed on to the Red Cross.

I just checked on their twitter page and it looks like this morning there has been $35 million donated. That is AMAZING!!! The pictures floating around the web made me quite sad.

In other news I found this lovely website called One Mango Tree.

It is quite shocking the prices they are charging for the handmade items. Sometimes these organizations IMO take advantage of the situation and charge outrageous prices. And this is why I love this organization so much. I ordered the Savannah Strands Necklace ($16) and the redish coin purse ($9). SO reasonable and affordable!!! I got them both yesterday and was so exited to see them both. It was SO hard picking just one necklace as I love them all, when my funds allow I will order a couple more of the necklaces. I really love them all and it's helping the community and women creating these pieces. I might have to get one of the bags too, just my style.
