Recently finished paintings. I was holding them for the upcoming Art A Fair in Laguna Beach this summer, but just sold them. One can not resist, and I am most pleased they are going to wonderful homes. All of my images are having to be uploaded through Chrome Browser these days. They come up looking odd and florescent! Not sure why, it's dreadful. Sorry about this oddity. They look normal on my website though!

My new painting just completed. I took my time on this one, worked on it off and on over two months. With gentle brush strokes, I slowly applied thin coats of paint. I often used Old Masters Maroger Painting Medium throughout the development of the painting. I really enjoyed incorporating lilacs in the painting. First time I've painted them. Hope you like it! Having some fun at the end of the year painting little oil studies. I'll need to begin larger complex still life paintings soon. It's been a few years since I have entered an Oil Painters of America juried show. Thinking it's time...so I've got my creative thinking cap on, working through some ideas and sketches. But these little paintings are a nice diversion (procrastination) for now!

In between painting for the three Small Works Holiday Art Exhibits I am in this year, I worked on a few larger paintings. Here is one of my most recent pieces. I brought together my rust-orange colored shawl with a piece of tapestry for added texture and interest. I had just gathered fresh eucalyptus leaves from my neighborhood and wanted to paint them. Keeping with a warm palette I added the golden delicious apple and lemons. A few lovely treasured objects, a silver vase and my grandmother's Bavarian tea cup, complete my still life composition. I greatly enjoyed painting this and the challenges it presented me. I hope the autumn feeling draws you in....pour the hot tea!

I wanted to pack a lot into this little one. I loved adding all the little details and small brush strokes into the copper. Painting my favorite colors (combinations) helps to make this a happy piece for me!

Silver and Lace

I have been enjoying painting the complexities of silver over the past year. For this new painting, I pared an unusual creamer with an old lace table cloth and added the leaves with berries on it. I thought the setup had a nice tonal quality about it. In order to capture that, and paint it, I filled the still life with overall natural soft light and had only one direct spot coming from the top. It was interesting to experiment with different light sources. In the end, the drama is still on silver, but maybe in a more natural softer way? Painting Workshop

A couple of weeks ago I gave a one day still life painting workshop at Segil Fine Art Gallery. Here are some pictures from our fun day.

Here is the painting I did during the demonstration. I painted it from a photograph of a still life I created. The other artists ("students") painted from the same picture.
