The new version includes the following changes:

  • A new option to turn on Amazon Context Links - this is an Amazon script that automatically turns keywords in your posts into Amazon Product links.
  • A new option to turn on Amazon Product Preview - this is an Amazon script that provides a product preview pop-up when users mouse over a product link.
  • A confirmation message has been added to the Option screen that allows you to verify changes to your Amazonify installation settings.
  • Various code optimizations.

I highly recommend you update to this newest version. The new options will remain off by default. To turn on Context Links and Product Previews, please visit the Amazonify Options screen in your WordPress Admin area.

Use the new options page to globally set your default Amazon Tracking ID. This eliminates the need to insert the Tracking ID in every Amazonify tag set. If you work with multiple Tracking ID’s you can insert different ones to override the default.

Like Googmonify, I think that Amazonify is just about ready for prime time. However, before I make the leap to version 1.0 I would like to get some feedback from some Amazonify users. If you have any problems with the plugin I would like to hear about them.

Of course it’s still in pre-release at this point. But the latest version, 0.3, includes support for Amazon Omakase links. Omakase links are those that target the specific visitor based on what Amazon knows about them.

I am currently in the process of making some improvements to the plugin. Once I am complete with this round of changes I will submit the code to the WordPress SVN repository. At that time it will become visible to the entire WordPress community. Until then feel free to download the latest version from the Amazonify page here at GARA Systems.

Please note that Amazonify is still in it’s pre-release stage so you may want to limit it’s use to testing.

I was attempting to do this in my previous post on the WD Passport. But whenever I embedded the iframe code directly into the post something went awry. So to simplify the process I created Amazonify. Once the plugin is activated you only need to add a simple tag set into your post. The tag set includes the product’s ASN, the alignment and type of the ad and your Amazon associated id.

I’ve been a software engineer for 20 years but this is my first WordPress plugin. I’m very excited about that. It’s still in its early life - version 0.2 - but I am already finding it very functional. I’ve included an ad for a WordPress book in this post so you can check out the effect.

I hope to add many more features to it in the coming months. I am currently working on getting it included in the WordPress Plugin Directory so that it can be more available to everyone.
