It is hard to believe it’s that time of year again. The Telstra Ballet Dancer Award announcement is on Friday night and we all find out who the lucky winner is, as well as the winner of the Telstra People’s Choice. Who knows, there may be two winners again this year?

It’s nice to reflect on this time last year when I had no idea what was about to happen, but I was just enjoying the ride. I still actually can’t believe that my name (alongside Ty’s) was eventually read out as a co-winner of the TBDA for 2010. As all the photos suggest, I certainly was in a state of disbelief. I actually went deaf after the award was announced and I can’t really remember knowing what to do next, but I think someone gave me an encouraging shove forward for Ty and myself to make a curtain call. I do remember feeling so privileged to be standing there and trembling with excitement. I also remember feeling so blessed that my parents were in the audience and were able to share such a highlight in my career. Of course they were both crying with joy for me and I am so glad that I asked them to be a part of that night irrespective of the result. The TBDA process was such an enlightening and confidence-boosting one that I will always be grateful for. I hope Karen, Robyn, Rudy, Brett, Chengwu and Luke have enjoyed the process this year and learnt a lot about how they got here, what keeps them going and their exciting futures ahead. Voting has closed so there is nothing to do but wait and see for all of us. I will be on stage on Friday night with the nominees and I can’t wait to see the excitement on the faces of the winners. Of course, we all have to be reminded that to even be a dancer in The Australian Ballet, our national ballet company, is a massive achievement in itself. Everything else is just a cherry on top.

I hope everyone got in early for their Romeo & Juliet tickets because it is a sold out season. Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide fans don’t despair, Romeo & Juliet will journey its way to you next year. This time in 48 hours we will have a new Telstra Ballet Dancer Award winner (or two, or three, four, five or six) – but they are certainly all winners!

Ahhh… Yep, 7 days in the studio involved much of the above title…

I love recording – there is something about being in a studio, with all its glamour… Well, maybe glamour is the wrong word (especially when you are in Kakadu studios in Darwin!), but there is a lot of time and work that goes into the buildup of making a record, a lot of excitement and expectation – the pre-production, the finances, the airfares, the rehearsing… oh, and of course the songwriting… but of course the most important thing is getting it right once you hit that button that says record.

Producer Charles ‘Chuckles’ Jenkins and producer/engineer Justin ‘Bigfooty.com’ Rudge were a dream to work with – hard working and great communicators with a sense of humour at the same time… which proved quite valuable, with cabin fever setting in around day 5, with more silliness than a bus full of excitable teenagers on the way to the school excursion at the bowling alley…

There were a few technical glitches, but we kept a clear head, and even though there is plenty more work to be done before the record sees the light of day, I think that everyone can be pleased with their efforts so far.

Big thanks to Chuck and Jus, Toby Robinson, Dan Davies, Alex Brindell, Glen Forner and the ‘man-choir’ for playing so wonderfully on the album, and big ups to financial supporters Arts NT, Telstra and APRA.

Here is a photo of my hetero-sexual-life-music-partner Toby Robinson with ‘Chuckles’ Jenko in the background enjoying a Darwin Sunset Cruise which we lapped up after our busy week.

Big love,

Well, it’s been a crazy few months for me and its finally great to be back blogging!

Juggling my television hosting role in Discover Downunder with co host Tim Smith along with speaking engagements, appearances, promotions, photo shoots, commercials & continued work for my sponsors and ambassador roles has kept me extremely busy!

The Australian Swimming Championships are on at the moment and although I love cheering on my former team mates, I’m very happy that I’m not competing.

Yes, you have heard the official word from me: there will be No COMEBACK, ha ha!!

Throughout my time on the swim team I learnt about time management and it’s without doubt that I use those skills on a daily basis in my life beyond the pool.

I’m loving the challenges of being a mum and already can’t believe my little baby Cooper is almost one and a half. The skills I learnt throughout my swimming career have definitely given me a headstart when it comes to being super organised.

Staying in touch with family and friends is so important when you’re on the road every week living out of a suitcase and eating whatever healthy airport food you can find.

Being connected with Telstra through my iPhone 4 gives me the comfort I need to help me feel I’m not missing out. The Face Time feature is great so I can still read my son bed time stories and have a chat to my husband whilst seeing both of them after a long day of filming.

Flight mode is fantastic so I can still tap out emails whilst in the air & listen to my favorite tunes at the same time.

Technology is so important to staying connected and it’s great that I’m reconnecting with my blog thanks to Telstra!

Keep Smiling
