Happy Leap Day!

Yes, I am still alive and breathing even if I haven't written a blog post in almost a year. Wow, Can't believe that but sometimes you just need to step back from things and concentrate on other areas in your life for a while. Okay, that wasn't completely what happen here. More like I just got burnt out from stamping which was why I started blogging in the first place. But I am back now just my posts won't be about stamping unless I stamp something really cute just for fun and decide to blog about it. Don't worry, I have plenty of other things to blog about: cakes/cupcakes I've made and will make this year, items I have/am loom knitting, photoshoots I have done and other pictures that I take and of course can't forget recipes that I make that I want to entice you to make too and who knows what else I'll blog about. (kids are in musicals, sports, 4-H, need I go on?)

So with that being said, I will leave you with one of my favorite pictures I took from a newborn photo shoot I did in Jan. (More from the photo shoot to come as they are just too cute not to share with the world.)

Kindergarten Day

Did you know that “National Kindergarten Day takes place on April 21. The day celebrates the preschool educational institution for children and honors the creator of the concept of the “kindergarten”. The term "kindergarten" was created by Friedrich Fröbel (born on April 21, 1782) for the play and activity institute that he created in 1837 in Bad Blankenburg as a social experience for children for their transition from home to school. His goal was that children should be taken care of and nourished in "children's gardens" like plants in a garden.”

So let’s make a card for a little kid is the challenge I issued my Cornish Heritage Farm friends.

I used this cute little kitty playing with the flowers digi image. Just love this digi and thought it looked like something a little kid would like also. Used some stickles on the kitty’s bell for some shine and some Mudd Puddles dry sand for the dirt. Image is colored with copics.

Strawberry pie and a Promo Code

So last weekend was Super Pi (3.1415blahblah) day, did you make a pie? I always mean to but forget every year. (Well, okay, I really just don’t want to mess with pie crust but…..) This year the kids asked me a week or so before if I would make a pie on Pi day. Instead of cringing like usual, I said yes with a big cheery smile. Why?

Because I have the DoughEZ!! So why not make a pie and keep my counter tops clean too?! So I did. You would have thought my family has never had sweets before as that pie was gone the next day!

So here I go. Pie dough on the DoughEZ all ready for rolling out.

Roll out the pie dough to match one of the circles the best you can that fits your pie pan with some room to spare.

Look at that!! I almost got a perfect circle!! woo hoo

I laid the pie pan on top of the dough, closed up the DoughEZ and flipped it over so the pie dough would fall right into the pie pan.

Look how the DoughEZ just peels right off the pie crust dough! No mess at all!

Flute the edges of the pie crust and then baked it before filling it.

Before baking it. I wasn’t fast enough to get a picture after it was baked and topped with Whipped Cream.

And now for the recipes that had my family asking me to make another Strawberry Pie soon (like the next day!)

I got the Strawberry Pie recipe from With a Grateful Prayer and a Thankful Heart. She has a link to print the recipe.

Strawberry Pie

3 Tablespoons cornstarch
1 1/2 cups sugar (It is a SWEET dessert, you might want to reduce the sugar. We like it sweet)
1 1/2 cups water
3 oz box strawberry Jell-O
2 cups sliced strawberries

Pre-bake a 10" pie shell.

Line bottom with the sliced strawberries
Combine cornstarch, sugar and water in small saucepan. Bring to a boil and simmer, stirring constantly, until thickened. Add the Jell-O and stir until dissolved. Pour over the strawberries and refrigerate until set.
Serve with whipped cream

I used The Gracious Wife recipe for my pie crust.

No Fail Pie Crust

3/4 cup shortening
2 1/14 cups flour
1/2 cup cold water

In a large mixing bowl, cut shortening and flour together. A pastry blender is preferred but a fork works with success too.

Then add water and stir with a fork until it forms a ball. If there’s still flour at the end, add water, a teaspoon at a time. You want the dough to be stiff, not sticky, so be careful not to add too much water.

Divide in half. If you’re only using half, you can freeze the other half now. Let the dough chill* in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before rolling out.

Poke dough with fork to prevent air pockets and bake for 10 mins at 350* or until the crust is golden.

*Oops! I just realized I never let my dough chill but it still rolled out great and tasted awesome!

Wild Birthday

Time for another CCEE challenge! Anne tells us that .... "March comes in like a Lion" So our challenge this week is to create a card with a wild animal theme.

Mine may not be as wild of an animal as you would think of when you hear wild animal. But he called out to me more than the other wild animals did.

I used a stamp from Imaginisce and colored with prismacolor pencils. Sentiment comes from Cornish Heritage Farms birthday set. Added some ribbon and a brown layer and there is my card.

DoughEZ, Baby Girl Cookies and a Promo Code!

Ever want to make cutout cookies but drag your feet because you know there will be a big mess to clean up afterwards? I’m that way at Christmas time but with orders, I’ll make them but still go ugh, what a mess to clean up.

Well enter Facebook and a post from one of my friends talking about this product she had just bought for making her cookies. To say I was intrigued was an understatement. So off to the site I went and 20 minutes later I had ordered the DoughEZ!

It came just in time for an order I had so I took step by step pictures to share with you after I had cut out a few batches as the DoughEz is just too much fun and I was impressed beyond impressed. (keep reading as Promo code is at the end of post)

The DoughEZ pastry mat is made of a silicone fiber mesh and the guide sticks are made of food safe ABS plastic. The six guide sticks come in two different depths of 1/8” (2 sticks) and 1/4” (4 sticks) in thickness. They can be stacked for various thickness and the 4 – 1/4” sticks with notches, snap together to create a 9”x13”x1” pastry frame.

I wanted my cookies to be 1/4” thick so I used the 1/4” sticks. Slide them under the mat and place the dough on the mat in between the guide sticks.

Now bring the other side over and on top of the dough and get ready for some fun.

Using your rolling pin, start rolling your dough. What??!! No sticky dough on the rolling pin?!! Amazing!! Roll dough till it is to thickness of the sticks you are using. (your rolling pin stays right on top of the sticks when rolling and the mat never moved. Loved that!)

Once dough is to thickness, open the DoughEZ and place parchment paper or in my case, wax paper, on to the dough.

Now close the DoughEZ and flip it over so the wax paper and dough end up on the other side.
Start cutting out the cookie shapes!

All the cookies I cut out were all the same thickness!! Finally I can get them the same without eyeballing it or ending up with different thicknesses!

And here are the cookies all decorated and all same thickness! woo-hoo!!

Wait! What about clean up? It is so simple now. For one your counters are still clean and so is your rolling pin! All you have to do is wipe down the DoughEZ mat with a wet washcloth and a little bit of soap, dry it off with a towel and roll it up. So simple!

All components of the DoughEZ are FDA approved food safe materials. Perfect for making biscuits, donuts, or non baked confections like rice krispy treats or molding cake pop dough and so much more. Did you see the rings on the one side? Perfect for shaping your pie crusts and pizzas! I just got a new bread machine that makes pasta dough, can’t wait to cut those out on this!

I wasn’t sure how I’d do this so I just pulled out a die that had multiply layers and went to work. (yes, the sentiment is a little crooked as I worked the entire card backwards! lol)

Kept it simple by just making it two tone. Used new set from Cornish Heritage Farms called Scripture Essentials. Added some bling in the corners.

Hello Friend

Challenge time over at Cornish Heritage Farms! This time around I am the hostess! My challenge to you is to make a snowy card. I love my snow and all too soon it will be over for another year (yes, I know, most are waiting for that day when the snow is gone.). So create a card using a snowman or a snowy scene.

I used Snow Dog digi stamp for my card. Colored him with prismacolor pencils and blended them with odorless mineral spirits. Used some White Flower Soft for the snow and added some bling in behind the image layer. The sentiment is from one of the new sets released at CHF called Friend Expressions.

Kiss the frog

Yes, I am still alive even though my blog would say otherwise. Sorry I have not been posting much, have lost my mojo and am slowly finding it again. I am also down a team and another team is taking a break so I don’t have as many weekly postings as I use to have. But enough about me…..

Time for another CCEE challenge! New month means a new challenge hostess, Sabrina! February 6th 1952 was the day Queen Elizabeth ascended to the throne. So for our challenge this week Sabrina has challenged us to Make a card featuring crowns or "royal" images. Remember that playing cards could work for this too!

I decided to go a complete different route in using a crown/royal image than the same old princess way. I used some fun design paper for my card. Made the hearts all sparkly by outlining and filling in with pink Stickles.

For the inside of the card I stamped the following sentiment from a retired set I have and colored the crown with copics.

There is still time to do the CCEE challenge! This past week’s challenge was Stamp Etching. You can find a tutorial on how to use this technique over on Splitcoast Stampers.

For my card I used Love is in the Air from a company no longer in business, Our Craft Lounge. I did the stamping etching on the balloons, at first I wasn’t to happy about it but the more I looked at the card, the more I did like how it turned out! I positioned each block to make it seem as if the hot air balloon was raising up in the sky. Colored them with copics and did a little masking with for the cloud.

NCC November Release Look back

Today we are taking a look back at North Coast Creations November Release. For more inspiration using the November Release be sure to visit the NCC Blog.

I used the Nutcracker for my card. So I have a confession to make… I can’t stand Nutcrackers! Don’t ask me why, I have no clue but they scare me. So working with this stamp was a challenge for me but in saying that, I LOVE how this card turned out!

I colored him with copics, using white gel pen on his teeth, coat and gloves. I also used NCC Sweet Christmas Wishes for my sentiment. Added a little dew drop bling at the top and a big three loop bow in the middle.

Christmas Tic-Tac-Toe

It’s challenge time again over on the CCEE Stampers blog. Our challenge hostess is Lyn McAultry.

For our challenge this week, Lynn has challenged us to
Create a Christmas card using the tic-tac-toe board below. Use all three items in any row: across, down, or diagonally. You may add additional items to your card if you like, but you must include the 3 in the row you have chosen.

I went with Snow, Embossing, Glitter.

I used Snow Angel Murphy from North Coast Creations for my card. Colored Murphy with copics and cut him out completely. Attached him with dimensions. Used some fun papers for the background and a scallop die for the checked paper.

As for my snow, embossing, glitter….. I embossed the snow with Iridescent ice embossing powder so it looks like glitter when embossed. Hard to tell in the picture but it looks like Murphy is making a glitter snow angel.

Well it is time for another challenge over on the CCEE Stampers challenge blog. This week Maryann Einam continues as our challenge hostess for the month.

Well I don’t have any photo stamps and my printer is out of ink so I can’t print any photos. What to do? I decided to share a Christmas card I made back in 1996! Since I have 4 kids, I decided to take a picture of them each holding a letter that would then spell out Noel.

Easy you say? Sure, if you didn’t have a 9 month old holding the letter L wanting to eat it! lol

Only took a handful of shots of her to get the one I used on the card!

Stamped snowflakes in the background and used matching ribbon and cardstock to finish off my card.

Movember Gnome

Time for another CCEE challenge!! This being a brand new month, it is time to introduce Maryann Einam as our challenge hostess for the month.

Maryann has asked us to celebrate Movember by created a card that features a moustache.

I racked my brain for the longest time trying to think of what image I had with a moustache. I thought I was going to have to sit this one out as I didn’t have a single thing and then it hit me. I have the Gnome What? set from North Coast Creations! duh! The Gnome has a moustache!! So that is what I used.

Colored image with copics and used a white gel pen for his moustache and beard. Did a little out of the box cutting with the mushroom stamp.

Looking back at Oct. NCC Release

I made two cards for today using both sets that I have. Tommy Turkey and Snowman Family.

For Tommy Turkey, I colored him with copics. Layered his beak and hat 3 times and his face twice. (Forgot to take a side picture! duh!)

For Snowman Family, I embossed them in silver and cut it out completely. Adhered it to the vellum with pop dots.

North Coast Creations Release in October

Welcome to the North Coast Creations October release! This month features some really cute sets and I have two of them to show you today.

For my Snowman Family card, I colored the image with copics, used white gel pen for the balls on the ends of their hats and also on the tree as ‘snow’. Sprinkled some “snow” Flower Soft on and did a little faux stitching around the image.

Tommy Turkey is looking all proud colored with copics and cut out completely. White gel pen was used on his collar and a Spica pen on the buckle of his hat. He is also attached with dimensions.

Happy Anniversary

This time round the challenge is to Create a card using the rich, wonderful colors of autumn.

I used an image from Paper Pretties for my card. Now you may say well that doesn’t look like an autumn card. Well let me explain. Today, 21 yrs. ago I was waking up for one of the most important days of my life…. my wedding. So this card of course represents that crisp fall day using fall colors. The clothes are paper pieced.

Of course the above looks nothing like my husband and I so I thought I would share a picture from that happy day oh so many years ago. (and really we were happy, this was just one of those serious shots)

A harvest of memories

Happy Halloween

Create a card using your favorite ghoul, ghost, monster, or witch to scare up some Halloween fun.

I don’t do Halloween so I have no ghoul, ghost or monster images so I went with a Jack ‘o Lantern cupcake using Paper Pretties Holiday Sweets I instead. Colored the image with copics. Added yellow stickles to the stars. Pulled out some “Halloween” design paper that I have and made my card. The sentiment also comes from the Holiday Sweets I set.

Clean and simple Christmas

Time for a Paper Pretties challenge! This week's challenge is:

Clean and Simple, huh? Sometimes I can do them and other times they don’t stay to clean and simple. But I have to say I am in love with my card and am thinking Christmas cards for this year! The only time consuming part is the complete cutout.

I used Tis the Season Sophia and colored her with copics. Used some sparkly pens for the ribbons and cut her out completely. Ran some vellum through the cuttlebug with a Christmas folder. Attached it with brads and attached Sophia with dimensionals.

LOVE!!!

The plane

There is still plenty of time to play in the CHF challenge over on the Cornish Heritage Farms Blog. This week the challenge is hosted by Kelly.

This time round our challenge is to Create a card based on a favorite storybook character.

I used Toy Airplane Digital Stamp for my card. Colored it with copics and popped it up. Don’t ask me what favorite storybook character as I have no clue but there has to be some storybook out there that has a plane in it… right?? Shoot, it could be Jay Jay the Jet Plane… that is in storybook form too, right? Anyways here is my card.

If you would like to play along with us of course we would love to have you!
To play create a card using CHF images. You can use either CHF digi or rubber stamps to create a card or project.... anything you like as long as the stamps are Cornish Heritage Farms. (Yes, they can be older stamps.)
Once you have created your card/project come back here and place a comment with a link to your card/project to this post so that we can see what you created. If you upload your card/project to SCS don't forget to include the keyword CHF63. We can't wait to see what you create!

A NCC look back

Today we are taking a look back at North Coast Creations September Release. For more inspiration using the September Release be sure to visit the NCC Blog.

I used Sweet Christmas Wishes for my card. Colored with prismacolored pencils and blended with odorless mineral spirits. Used some spica gel pens for the bow and peppermint candies.
