Getting Ready: Part Three

Been working on some of the fun stuff for Jackson's room...a customized pillow, boppy cover, and stroller quilt from this lady's cute shop!

Getting all of the clothes we have gotten as gifts organized in his closet! These two were from Adam's (very nice!) boss!!

Finding cool decorations for his room...like this five foot tall giraffe and giant lion! I saw them in a store locally, but they were so expensive!! So I was going to pass. But then I got some birthday money, and found them way cheaper online, and well...

I got them both for Jackson's room!

They were totally worth it! I hope he loves playing with them!

I've also been working on gathering my photo props & ideas for his newborn photo shoots!

(Totally kindof a frou-frou type preparation, but fun nonetheless!!)

Been cutting & assembling thank you cards (although it's a little time consuming, it is so fun to mass assemble a bunch of cards at one time!)

Perhaps a little unnecessary, but I made closet dividers for Jackson

(and a friend - the pink set isn't for Jackson, promise!!)

Here they are in action. I find them useful, since as you can see, we already have a few clothes in lots of different sizes!

I've also been working on Jackson's scrapbook & ordering pictures to date of all of our weekly pictures, preparation photos, & ultrasound pictures!

And I made a simple little wreath for his room door!

I still have a massive list of things I want to make/organize/purge...but I keep marking stuff off the list...so that's a good thing!! :)

30th Birthday Card

A super quick and simple 30th birthday card ( I know, I know, do I only make cards now?!) (No, but I can never find the time to take pictures of my layouts anymore! It's either too dark or somethings going on, etc. etc.)

And, in other news, my own birthday has come and gone again. It was a fun day/week/two weeks. :) I got some presents for Jackson with my birthday money (!!!!), ate a lot of cookie cake, got taken out to eat five times, had a doctors appointment and got lots of happy birthday wishes and gifts (all of which I enjoyed immensely).

I think it was the best one yet. :)

These past few months have been very busy - we have worked hard getting mister Jackson's room ready...

And registering & researching for baby stuff!

Ordering, washing, ironing & cutting up fabric for the baby bedding....my mom has done most of this!

Painting! (Yuck! None of us are fans!)

Installing a new door in between our room and the room next door for quicker access to Jackson's room!

Finished assembling the crib (with some help from T1 & T2!)

And we got all the furniture moved in and our growing stash of baby stuff all put in his room!

And, perhaps most fun of all, I've been on the lookout for cute church clothes!

So cute, it just kills me!!

I'm not sure if everything I want to get done will get done, but we're definitely trying hard to make it all happen! :)

Little Sailor Card!

This card was for Adam's cousin's family to welcome their first child! I got the idea for a sailboat by trying to match the baby bedding chosen by the mom-to-be! I added a wave border sticker and inked the edges with light blue ink. I never do any paper piecing because I don't usually have a lot of time but this was a fun card to make! :)

A few weeks ago, I picked up the girls on my half Friday off to hang out and spend the night. We were supposed to go to the park, but we got rained out, so we went to the mall instead. I had $20 cash and told them we could spend it doing whatever they wanted, but then when it was gone, it was gone. So! They chose to share a massage chair...

Get a cookie from the cookie shop and share a drink!

Do the bungee jump (which was expensive, but they loved it!)

Get an all day pass into the balloon pit...which we went back to two or three times! (They also pretended to play arcade games, because we were out of money at that point...but they didn't seem to mind!)

Then we window shopped at Claire's...

And stopped by Dillards to look for baby Jackson some clothes...they wanted to buy him everything, but we ended up getting him two cute little church outfits on a really good sale. On the way in, they found these "beautiful" moo moo dresses, which Taylor emphatically told me she would definitely want if they had that in her size. Haha!

Then we took "photoboth pictures" but with Auntie Amber's phone because, again, we had already spent our $20 limit...but we did it in the photo booth, so they were still thrilled! And hilarious!

Then when we got home, we toured baby Jackson's new room and convinced Uncle Adam to assemble the last piece of furniture - the crib, so they could "help!" Which they tried valiantly to do, by toting and dropping screws and bolts all over the room, which resulted in Uncle Adam having to (repeatedly) help them find them. Their intentions were PURELY helpful though, and Uncle Adam thought it was so sweet, so he was very patient and even let Auntie Amber snap some pictures!

We also did a few other things...like make cousin Sophia a little onesie, and play lots and lots of tic tac toe. And we ate at a Chinese restaurant, where Tori fell asleep on Uncle Adam's lap very early in the night! The next morning, we took Auntie Amber's favorite pictures the "good morning" pictures.

Then they asked to do more photobooth pictures, which Auntie Amber agreed to and can't believe she is posting online! This is what true love looks like....hahahaha! Then we finished off the morning with Chick-fil-A for breakfast & sidewalk chalk before heading over to their new house! I'm really glad I got to have a fun weekend with them before I got too pregnant to have the energy!

We've ordered and assembled baby furniture!

(While watching Wimbledon!)

We've picked out and installed new carpet in his room!

And...we're trying to find a truck for Daddy so he can haul Jackson around when he needs to (all he has now is a work truck).

And Mama (me) has been working on finding fabrics for Jackson's room...and prepping with Grandma (my mom!) to make Jackson's bedding and a few other little things.

Preparing for a baby is a lot of work..but it's so fun, I can barely call it work! :) I'm having such a good time researching things and planning crafty projects for our little man! (That's not to say I haven't had my share of pregnancy meltdowns/exhaustion or anything - because I have! Ha?! - but mostly everything so far has gone smoothly and we are very thankful!!)

Gender Reveal Appointment & Party!

So I had teetered on the edge of whether to have a "gender reveal" party or not. The concept (to me, at least!) originally seemed a teensy bit over-the-top. But in the end, Adam and I thought it would be more fun than ridiculous and we kept the guest list to really close friends and family, so, we went with it. In our minds, it was kindof like having the suspense of finding out what it is at the hospital...only a little sooner! However, I was determined to keep it minimal and focus on being together (and eating!) more than crazy decorations and fancy food. (The fact that we found out what the baby was the morning of the party, definitely helped reign in my tendency to over-do, in spite of my best intentions!!) I printed out the invitations using some stashed away Martha Stewart folded cards & patterned paper bows and ties.

Then, we went to our appointment. My mom came with us, but she stayed outside when they told us what it was! She could hardly stand it.

Well, after Adam and I found out what it was, I went home to prepare for the party. The only real "decorations" we had was the guessing board and a blue and pink onesies with our chosen names on them (I used stickers so I could recycle the onesie of the gender we DIDN'T have!)

I had this idea to combine my love of pictures and the guessing board. So I used my handy (thank you, Sis. Mary Ann!!) Instax camera to take everyone's pictures and each person wrote their guess (Boy or Girl) on the bottom with a sharpie and taped it to the board with washi tape. After the party, I glued all the pictures with their guesses into Baby Scurlock's baby scrapbook!

Then I went to pick up my two cute nieces from daycare and got them baths and their new "color appropriate" clothes (we asked everyone who came to wear pink or blue in honor of their guess!) Then they calmly sat on the couch with Uncle Adam (for a few minutes at least!)

We also scheduled to have a cake made and I thought it turned out so, so, so cute!

We were going to wait until after we ate to cut the cake, but no one could stand it, so we cut it before we ate....IT'S A BOY!!

We sent everyone home with a little pack of highlighted hershey bars (an idea which I totally stole from Pinterest.)

It was a night full of fun and laughs and wonderful friends and family. It was a little crowded in our house, but all in all, it was one of the "funnest" nights we've ever had. We are incredibly blessed with a whole lot of people that love us (and who we love!) and are very excited to welcome our baby boy into the world!

It's been a while since I've posted! I've been busy - you know, growing a baby (!!!!) and preparing for him!! Yes, we're having a boy!! :) Here's my weekly pregnancy shots from Week 13-Week 24 to tide you over until I find time to blog about our gender reveal appointment and party, and all the progress/exciting things we're working on for little Jackson's room. Plus some random crafts, cards & layouts I've got stashed away to share...one day! :)

Strawberry Fun!

I took a half day off a few Fridays back and picked up my two favorite neice-ies and headed to my mom's house for some strawberry picking fun.

There was a quick lunch and then pictures...

Then we got our shoes on and loaded up...

When we got to the strawberry farm, we checked out the animals first...

Then we headed to the fields...sadly, there had been terribly picked over due to the farm scheduling all of the school field trips on the same week (approx. 400 kids!)...so we laboriously went down almost four rows and found...almost nothing!

This was our ENTIRE haul...haha! My mom wanted to make strawberry jelly, but...it wasn't happening this time! So we sat down and ate every one of them right there on the spot.

And I took a picture of a picture! (I am such a big fan of my instant camera!)

Then we went home where Grandma had all the fixings for pedicures...Auntie Amber also got a pedicure from Grandma...it was very fun!

Tori wanted to sit still and get her nails painted too!

Somebody was having a good time...

Then, we played with sidewalk chalk!

Tori colored in all the letters....

And Taylor got chalk all over her nose!

Then, after a visit to see Nanny's dog Annie, they headed off. But I think we packed quite a bit of fun in half of a day! :) All the credit goes to Grandma, who had quite and adventure planned out (and good snacks to go with it!)

One Wednesday when I picked up the girls (earlier this year...I think in February), I let them play on their ipods while we waited (for a loooong time!) in the drive through at Burger King (because Auntie Amber didn't have any edible food in her house). Tori asked me how I spelled "auntie" then "Amber" then "uncle" then "Adam" (but she got confused on "m" and put "n" instead). She knew that was wrong and said, "Oh no, it is messed up, I will just erase it," but I told her I would fix it and I did...and then took pictures! It was a cake she made for AuntieAmberTaylorUncleAdam. :)

Exciting News Part Two: I'm Pregnant! :) Adam and I are very excited to welcome our first little bundle of joy into the world later this year!

We told our parents in fun ways, which deserves its own blog post (coming soon?!!) but here is a little sneak of part of the announcement fun!

And furthermore, we discovered that our home is a baby-making haven...a mama bird has decided to hatch FOUR (bless her heart!) little birdies in our fern...it's pretty fun to keep an eye on them!

Monogram Paintings

A few weeks ago (well, over a month ago, now!) I made this matching monogram wall hangings/door signs for two friends of my from high school who were having a double wedding Christmas themed shower. I saw these cute door signs in a local boutique store but they were TOO MUCH money, so I decided to adapt the idea and make my own.

I bought oval canvases and wooden initials from Hobby Lobby, gathered some Martha Stewart all-purpose paint, foam brushes and circle cut-outs (made with my Cricut) and went to town.

First, I roughly used the circles to get a general circle outline, then freehanded the large polka dots. For the smaller polkas, I used a lip balm cap (seriously!) and a pencil eraser (which, btw, if you wash right away, the paint comes completely off each item).

Then I painted the outer edges red.

I painted the initials red, then added a coat of glitter (which was so cute in real life, but hard to photograph!)

Then I added cute ribbons (red polka dot ribbon for the edge of the canvas & green striped for the hanging part) and made bows out of glittery tulle rolls (also from Hobby Lobby).

Voila! This project cost me about $10 apiece + time. And they seemed to really like them.

Taking Up Painting

I've been on a variety craft kick lately...painting on canvases, making door signs and onesie making....and surprisingly, I even have a stack of scrapbook pages & projects to photograph but never any daylight to do it in (*especially* since I'm leaving before daylight and coming home after dark most days!) But at Thanksgiving, I remembered to take a photo of this painting I made for my mama for her birthday (back in July!)....she had asked me to make her a painting of flowers, and I found several pictures online and she picked this one for me to make.

It certainly isn't perfect, but it was really fun to make...the red flowers even have beads on them...

Craft Fair Fun

This past Saturday I went to a craft fair at the local fairgrounds...there were some cute booths...this one was all handpainted signs...

And this one had the cutest little (FSU) baby beanie...

But this booth by Crafty Expressions (see their blog here!) was my favorite. They make all sorts of cute stuff...beaded rings, note holders, picture frames, crocheted hairbows, and crocheted plush! I think it's so cool when someone has a business making crafty goods....

Isn't this little boy with the snowman the cutest??
