Protecting Religious Liberty

The uproar over President Obama’s proposal to require nearly all employer-sponsored health insurance plans to include contraception, sterilization and abortion-inducing drugs free-of-charge is not about whether women should have access to these services.
The question at hand is whether the government should be able to mandate religious institutions to violate their faith in order to comply with the law. It is a question of the reach of government and the protections provided by the First Amendment to the Constitution.
As originally proposed, the rule would only provide conscience protection for select religious entities such as churches, synagogues, and mosques. Despite pleas for expanded protection, the Obama Administration refused to extend that protection to religious entities such as schools, hospitals, and charities.
As a result, these institutions would be forced to pay in full for services that violate the faith on which they are founded. If they refused, they would face hundreds of millions of dollars in fines.
The separation of church and state is too often interpreted by some to mean that we must “sanitize” public institutions of any reference to faith. Groups spend millions on lawsuits trying to remove displays of the Ten Commandments in public buildings or to prevent prayer in public schools.
What concerns me more is the notion that the government could interfere in the free practice of religion. The notion that the government could require a religious institution to pay for a procedure that violates the basic tenets of the faith on which it was created is absurd.
While I am encouraged that the Administration is beginning to back off its hard line approach, I still have grave concerns with the rule going forward and believe it should be repealed in full.
As announced, the new rule would require the insurance companies to provide these services rather than employers. While the religious institution may no longer be required to directly provide products to which they have moral objections, they will still be required to facilitate, directly or indirectly, their provision.
By not fully repealing the rule, this mandate will remain in place for employers with religious objections to these services. It still creates a situation in which the federal government is forcing a decision between either violating one’s religious beliefs or violating the law.
That’s why I have cosponsored the “Respect for Rights of Conscience Act” which explicitly revokes the government’s ability to require employers to pay in full for services that are contrary to their religious beliefs. If enacted, the bill would also provide legal protection to those who refuse to provide services that violate their faith.
Speaker Boehner announced this week that the House will take action on this issue. Whether it is the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act or another legislative vehicle, I intend to join him in seeing this rule repealed.

No, we didn't all come together and make it right. In fact, many went head to head, going against everything American. Many sat in silence when we should have been screaming at the top of our lungs. Many sided with the enemy. Many, became the enemy. Many...created the enemy.

Michigan is fighting back all right, it's just that the warriors may not be so American. Car bomb kills at least seven in Afghanistan

A car bomb exploded near a busy shopping area in Kandahar, southern Afghanistan, on Sunday, which officials said killed at least seven people.

The blast went off at a parking lot outside the main police building, said Saisal Ahmad, a spokesman for the provincial government. Five police officers and two civilians were killed, and least 19 people were wounded, he added.

NBC reported that children were among the dead and wounded.

The blast was large enough that it shattered windows in nearby buildings. It appeared the bomb was in a parked vehicle and was remotely detonated, said Zalmai Ayubi, another government spokesman.

No one immediately claimed responsibility.

Although the international military coalition in Afghanistan has poured resources into Kandahar city and surrounding areas in recent years as part of a push to take back insurgent strongholds, the area has remained dangerous and there have been repeated attacks against government installations.

The U.N. reported on Saturday that 2011 was the deadliest on record for civilians in the Afghan war, with 3,021 killed as insurgents ratcheted up violence with suicide attacks and roadside bombs. Civilian deaths from military or other pro-government forces decreased slightly.

Afghanistan's largest insurgent movement, the Taliban, said on Sunday the report was "biased."

In an emailed statement, Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid accused the U.N. — as a Western organization — of falsifying the figures.

The commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan, Gen. John Allen, for his part said the report reflected the effort the international coalition has put into decreasing civilian casualties.

He added that international forces "will continue to do all we can to reduce casualties that affect the Afghan civilian population."

In the north, meanwhile, Afghan police said that an American soldier shot and killed an Afghan guard at a U.S. base, apparently because the American thought the guard was about to attack him.

There have been a growing number of attacks by Afghan soldiers against international forces in Afghanistan in recent years, some the result of arguments and others by insurgent infiltrators. Last month, an Afghan soldier shot and killed four unarmed French troops last month at a base in eastern Afghanistan.

Friday's shooting in Sari Pul province in northern Afghanistan resulted from an unfortunate misunderstanding, said Sayed Jahangir, the deputy police chief for the province.

Afghans guard the outside perimeter of the base and Americans guard inside. Jahangir said that the Afghan guard — a man named Abdul Rahim — wanted to go into the base and started arguing with the American at the door. Rahim did not raise his weapon, but the American thought he was about to do so and fired, Jahangir said.

"Our initial reports show that the American thought he was acting in self defense," Jahangir said. Rahim was a private guard, not an Afghan soldier or policeman, Jahangir said.

U.S. forces were "aware of an incident in northern Afghanistan" and were investigating, said U.S. military spokesman Lt. Col. Jimmie Cummings. He declined to provide further details.

The New York Times attacked the New York City Police Department’s decision to show our critically acclaimed film, The Third Jihad: Radical Islam’s Vision for America, on the front page of its Jan. 26, 2012 edition. The film was shown during training to close to 1,500 of its lieutenants, detectives and patrol officers.
The Third Jihad takes an in-depth look at the process of radicalization and indoctrination of American Muslims taking place on American soil and is a powerful educational tool that has been used by law enforcement across the country.
While the NYT made no concrete attempt to deal with the facts presented in the film, the Times story was riddled with inaccuracies that they later made no attempt to correct. The story was picked up by major media outlets across the globe.

Why Is HAMAS Inside Tampa Schools?

Kelly Miliziano, who teaches history classes at Steinbrenner High School in the Tampa, Florida area apparently thinks it’s perfectly OK to invite a senior official of a HAMAS-affiliated organization into her classroom to discuss Islam with her students. According to local media reports, not only has this been going on for years, but in spite of the civil and criminal proceedings that could result from such reckless negligence, the Hillsborough County school superintendent, Mary Ellen Elia, and the chairman of the school board, Candy Olson, also expressed approval for students under their responsibility to be exposed repeatedly to guest speaker, Hassan Shibly, who is the Executive Director for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in the Tampa area.

At press time, doctors say that Kirk, 52, was alert and responding to questions. The doctors expect Kirk, who was in good health at the time of the stroke, to recovery all his mental faculties. Kirk started the Dissident Awareness program to fight for the persecuted, the dissidents and the political prisoners, saying, “We cannot turn a blind eye to their struggle.”

How terrorists are exploiting our porous southern border, often working with drug cartels.
The increasingly militant—and successful—effort by Islamists worldwide to suppress free speech and criminalize any criticism of Islam.
The growing Muslim Brotherhood threat and how Islamic sharia law is creeping into America.
How the history and doctrines of Islam are being misrepresented in public school textbooks and classrooms.

But even more important than this, Brigitte will spell out the strategies and tactics ACT! for America is employing to effectively fight back against these threats.
