Looking to buy a classic car? Classifieds are a good place to start but do not make it your only option. There are many owners of classic cars that do not advertise their cars, they just take them to shows and win awards. These are top of the line cars and very expensive. But depending on your taste and budget a car show could be an option for you.

The best thing about purchasing a classic car from a car show is you that will know what others think about it by how it places and if there are any discrepancies they will be pointed out at the time of their judging. Most good judges thoroughly go through a car and point out where they take points off. This is very handy if after your purchase you wish to improve the car and take it to a show. It can also be a source of headaches since every judge sees each car differently.

Unfortunately I have known some judges that are prejudiced against certain makes and models. Nothing can be done to change their minds but this can be a blessing in disguise. The more critical a judge is the better chances after improvements that the next judge might not be prejudiced and you could win the Best of Show.

So look and be choosy, you will be paying through the nose but what a sweet ride you will have if you buy a classic car at a car show. For a classic car, classifieds are not the only answer.

We also want to encourage all of you car sellers out there to place your ad here on American Classic Car Sale. There is no charge for the ad at the time you place it. The only time you are obligated to pay for the ad is when we sell the car for you. Then it is only a hundred dollars per car. Send in your write ups, description and photos and we will make your car visible to millions of possible buyers.

For an American collector car, insurance on your prize possession is a must. But just not any coverage will do. There are many insurance companies that either have a special policy for collectible cars or they only cover collectible and classic cars and trucks.

As part of an insurance policy, the most important feature will be the agreed value of the classic vehicle. Not including any agreed upon deductible, the value of the collector car should be set high enough to cover the cost of replacing it even if a fire or other accident causes the loss or damage to be a total loss.

The usage and mileage must also be considered. When a person receives a license plate in the classic or collectible car from the state, there is a limitation to the mileage they are allowed to drive. Make sure the insurance plan for your collector car will permit you to drive the car as you wish to. This is the best part of owning a classic car, driving it.

When it comes time for repairs to the classic, make sure all replacement parts are covered under the insurance policy. Make sure the policy allows for not only the parts to be covered but if the overall value of the car increased, this should also be figured into the coverage with an increase in total coverage.

Lastly the cost of inflation should be automatically figured into any policy. Since most classic collectible vehicles will increase on an average of 8% a year, this should be set into your policy.

These suggestions should be followed as a start of setting up any American collector car insurance policy. Before signing any policy make sure you read all of the fine print.

There have been many classic muscle cars made in the past but not many grew so big and still preformed like the Plymouth Barracuda. This was the only pony car that actually beat the Ford Mustang to the market. It was released only 2 weeks prior but it was still there first in 1964.

The very first Barracuda or Cuda as it is better know by today, was Chrysler’s first performance car. This was the performance option on the Valiant a-body car. This first generation of Cuda lasted just three years but had some unique features, one of which was a folding down rear seat to increase the cargo handling capabilities of the car. Unlike the Mustang, this car offered a 273 cu in V-8 the very first year of production.

classic muscle cars 1970 cuda

The second generation Cuda was introduced in 1967 with an all new look and package. This car became into its own this year and was no longer just the performance option of the Valiant. The major difference of this pony car from all the rest up to this point was it did not have the long hood and short rear deck of most pony cars. This was also the year the big block Chryslers were fitted in under the hood. The 383 cu in motor was an option but due to its size these cars could not come equipped with power steering or air conditioning, there simply was not enough room under the hood.

In 1968 a more reasonable motor was an option to fit the car in that a 340 cu in was now available. It fit better and customers could have power steering and air conditioning. But the 383 were still the best choice for the ¼ mile drag strip.

The third generation in 1970 saw major changes including a total redesign to incorporate a long hood and short rear deck to better compete with the Mustang and Camaro. The 1970 Cuda was available with every engine option made by Chrysler including the 426 Hemi and the 440 with a six-pack on top. But this all ended in 1974 when only 15,000 cars were sold. But what a ride it was for the Cuda, one of many classic muscle cars made then faded away.

Speaking of classic muscle cars, we have just added a couple of neat videos to the post about the 1966 charger that is for sale on this website. One of them is an original TV ad for the 66 charger, and the other is a real crazy video of a guy just obliterating a set of rear tires, up in smoke! Check them out.

Hi everyone!

So I have been meaning to change this website design to a more appropriate car collecting theme and I started early this morning to put up a temporary one, and of all things, I accidentally deleted the existing theme that has been up for about two years!

Well my programmer to the rescue, and we have fixed it at least for the time being. I will now install said temporary theme and by next week some time we will have a brand new much prettier website with all the bells and whistles that are available to a WordPress theme.

Please bear with us. It will be nice, promise.

Admin Rich

Oh, and another thing.

The 1940 Ford pickup street rod is “SOLD!”
It is on it’s way to sunny Australia and we will give a full report after the lucky collector receives it!

The days of yesteryear, when signs that said street rods for sale were a common thing are long past. Today it is more common to see muscle car for sale or classic cars for sale, street rods or even hot rods for sale are long past. I think the main reason is because before muscle cars came into being in 1964, there were only street rods.

There were no production muscle cars to be had going into the 1960’s. All of the fast cars were built by their owners. There was plenty of know how and parts to make this a viable industry. I especially liked the old 1930’s Fords that would have their fenders taken off and the engine replaced along with the rest of the drive train to make them go fast. There were many painted black with a wild flame job added to the nose of the car. This made them look like a flaming rocket going down the road.

The best place to see these cars run were the interstate sections that were being built. These closed off straight sections of smooth road were the ideal places for drag races. Plus there were few to no cops watching these unopened roads.

But with most of the interstates already built across this nation and the old street rods and hot rods so old and rare most owners do not want to take a chance, so they sit in car shows instead of racing. Maybe I am showing my age but this was a time of American history I miss and street rods for sale are far and few between.

You can see a couple of beauties here on American Classic Car Sale that have been lovingly taken apart piece by piece and reassembled using the best of the best in replacement or original parts. 1940 Ford Pick Up Street Rod, and a 1942 Ford Coupe Street Rod. What you end up with is a connection to the past which is a salute to the original car designers, coupled with new technology and go fats treatments that make your head spin.

I know that some of the old time antique car collectors openly scoff at such a travesty but deep down inside they are thinking that they would just love to take a ride in that rocket.

The sign: “Collector Car Sale” is one that gets all of our hearts pumping a little faster. When we see this term in a classified ad in the newspaper or on a website there is always a mad scramble to be the first caller. How many times have you heard the stories about having just missed that 1963 split window coupe that sat in a barn and sold for a few thousand?

I have never really found a classic car that I did not like. Yes I know the Edsel was a bomb but compare it to a new Kia and I would prefer the Edsel.

That is a dramatic statement but I had to drive a Kia for a few days and I felt like I was in an aluminum foil car the sheet metal was so thin. Instead of a thud when the door closed it went twang. The can of beans I ate last night had thicker sides on it. The engine was fuel efficient to the point that it could not get out of its own way. I won’t admit I was scared but there were times when an 18-wheeler was next to me on the highway and I was a little uncomfortable.

When you see a collector car sale advertised and it is a newer Viper or a Shelby Cobra you had better find some way to buy it and hold on to it for several years as these cars will become the classics of tomorrow. There are banks and finance companies that specialize in collector car financing and will give you a good rate. A couple of classic car financing companies that we know of and suggest you look at are hagerty.com and woodsidecredit.com.

When you find these advertisers you will do well to contact them directly as the reason they provide special rates for collector car financing is that they know you will take good care of your baby and that if you are in this field of collecting than you are no doubt a responsible person and a good risk for them.

Along with financing you will need to have special car collector insurance as this is very specialized also. The average automotive insurance will not be sufficient to cover your new ride but these specialty insurance companies have studied the risks and they come up with plans that will be perfect for your needs. Some companies that we can refer you to that have car collector insurance are; hagerty.com, heacockclassic.com, lelandwest.com and americancollectors.com.

Here in the states we are coming into the cold weather season and many of you will be putting your collector cars up for the winter and you will be making plans all winter long about what you will want to do to your car for the coming car shows and events next summer.

You had better keep watching out for the collector car sale ads all winter long because some of the best deals to be found are during the off-season periods that other collectors might not be looking for.

Please let our readers know when you purchase a new classic and we will publish pictures of it and your story if it meets our requirements.

If you have a classic car, muscle car or antique car for sale contact us using the contact form at the top of this page and we will advertise it here on American Classic Car Sale. Our advertising rate is ridiculously low and you do not have to pay anything at all until you sell the car. If we don’t sell it for you, there is no charge.

Enjoy.

American Classic Cars have been seriously collected starting soon after World War II. There is the fascination of putting you back in time to when you were a little kid standing in awe and amazement when you first say the new year models. When you think of the many different kinds of American Classic Cars that there are you have a wide area of choices to select your favorites from. We here at AmericanClassicCarSale.com encourage you to step back in time right here on our website. Please leave any comments that you care to share.

One friend remembers his experiences with these beauties and shares them with us in the following article titled:

American Classic Cars I Have Owned

Some of the Detroit Iron manufactured after WWII until about 1980 can be considered Rolling Art. Several Companies like Packard, Hudson and Studebaker ceased building cars for one reason or another during the early part of this span, but they and the traditional big 3, Ford, GM and Chrysler did turn out some masterpieces.

As a kid just old enough to think about getting a drivers license, I would sit in my tree house and fantasize about the latest crop of finned behemoths pictured in the car magazines of the time. After careful consideration I would rank them according to style and features that I could really relate to and desired to possess. Always decisions. Should I have twin rear antennas and dual spotlights or would one of each do. Wire wheels were really neat as were the two and three tone paint jobs. I ended up choosing the most streamlined and elegant looking as my favorites always deferring to clean rather than clutter. I wasn’t one for fuzzy dice hanging from the rear view mirror, instead preferring power windows and air conditioning. Of course I always opted for the biggest V8 option and always dual exhaust both for easy engine breathing and the sound.

The late 1940’s and early 50s saw the transition from stodgy, subdued and functional to a more sleek and powerful motif which, year after year during the 1950’s, became a size, power and chrome enhancement race.

While some models went overboard with various excesses making their designs overburdened or clumsy, others managed to integrate fins, masses of chrome and color schemes that were a delight. All the manufacturers had their winners and losers but American cars of the period were all individually identifiable and definitely distinct and could roll down a super highway without a care.

The straight 6 and 8 motors of earlier periods soon gave way in the more deluxe models to V8’s, which couldn’t pull stumps like the old high torque low rpm straight eights, but could more lithely move a couple of tons of iron, glass and plastic down the road. By the mid 1950’s all American cars had settled on 12 volt electrical systems, 14 or 15 inch wheels, wrap around windshields, and with the V8 motor now the entrenched favorite.

It was a time in American history when each new car year was greeted with excitement and anticipation as each model sought to capture the limelight with its own distinct identity. Priorities were simple if not naive. Dazzle the customer with great expanses of sheet metal and chrome, brilliant colors and lots of buttons to push. Although mundane items like seat belts were introduced as selling features from time to time, the consumer wanted none of that as it didn’t add any value as a status symbol.

Slowly technological improvements did advance along with convenience and power options. Radial tires were a big plus adding smoothness, safety and longevity replacing thumping, rapid tread wear and numerous flats. Disc brakes were a definite safety advantage replacing the inferior drum and shoe method that could fade in emergency situations. Automatic transmissions became the option of choice and then ultimately became standard equipment. And of course, radios evolved.

In the mid fifties, signal seek or ‘wonderbar’ AM radios were introduced, followed soon thereafter by the transistor models which allowed for ‘instant on’ instead of waiting for the tubes to warm up. In the sixties, FM radio appeared, and at first offered ad and DJ free programming. That of course didn’t last long once the bandwidth became entrenched. By the seventies there were 8 track tape players which in fairly short order gave way to cassettes.

1959 marked the pinnacle of the auto as jet sporting gigantic rear fins, the ultimate appearing on the 1959 Cadillac with the 1959-60 Chrysler and DeSoto not far behind. In another year the DeSoto would disappear from showrooms and go the way of the Packard, Hudson and Nash. A sobriety of sorts gripped automakers after the fin and chrome extravaganza passed. Some really classy designs were introduced in the early sixties like the 1960 Pontiac, 1961 Buick, 1962 Cadillac and classic 1964 Ford.

Chrysler Corporation would, from time to time, introduce industry leading stratagems. Their Hemi (hemispherical head) Motor during the fifties was pure muscle and reliability as was their Torqueflight transmission. They introduced the ‘Forward Look’ in the later fifties which lead styling trends for awhile. Then again in 1965 they offered some really sturdy and classy cars that towards the end of that decade lead to the innovative fuselage cars. These were large sleek machines with an air frame sculptured look that I found quite attractive. Unfortunately Chrysler quality control started slipping badly during this period and didn’t recover for many years.

By the late seventies things started going downhill in Detroit. Automakers, paying little attention to quality control and mechanical efficiencies found themselves mandated by legislation to clean up their act, literally. As a result, all manner of schemes were employed to reduce engine emissions, most, in the early days, a maze of vacuum lines and fuel injection designs that were cumbersome and mostly ill conceived, leading to a myriad of problems and customer dissatisfaction.

It wasn’t long thereafter that the Japanese stepped in to fill the void and things have never returned to the days of American auto manufacturing preeminence.

Granted American cars eventually improved dramatically but market share by then was fragmented. I personally lost interest in Detroit around the mid eighties although some really nice cars have been produced since. Now, I am afraid, because of the fickle nature of Americans, demanding SUV’s and consuming a hugely disproportional amount of the worlds resources, the twin failings of overindulgence and lack of foresight in the face of world realignment, has pushed MoTown automakers to the brink of insolvency.

The 1950s through the seventies saw the apex and beginning of decline of the American auto as a distinct form of rolling art. A combination of art deco and modern gave way to downsizing and competition from abroad. Complacent management also failed to embrace, in a timely fashion, new concepts of quality control, preferring to market their vehicles through planned obsolescence.

No doubt, some of the greatest American masterpieces in rolling art were created during the 1920s and 30s, however, the height of Auto Americana, where form and function took on whole new dimensions of vim and verve, the 1950s, seems to have marked the peak of empire as well as one of its most distinctive products.

As we have discussed before here on American Classic Car Sale, an ad that reads Corvettes For Sale is one that every American I have ever known has at some time in their life wanted to answer. To buy a Corvette would mean you have attained a certain level of success in life.

The Corvette is like no other car in the world. This American icon will never be converted to a family car. This is if there are any children in the family. The Corvette will also never be any good as a truck. They do have powerful engines, except for the first years, but we won’t mention that. The engines were made to just go fast. They do have torque but not pulling power, or at least not like a truck of comparable engine displacement.

The Corvette will also never be an off road vehicle or a four by four. I can’t even imagine an off road Corvette. The Corvette with its long sleek road hugging body is at its best when going down the road fast. Even without a fancy paint job when a Corvette goes by heads will turn.

I have been in a few and my favorite was a 1963 C2 version with the split rear window. The 247 under the hood never had a problem breaking the wheels loose and heads turned around every corner.

To date General Motors has stopped production of the Oldsmobile, the makers of the 442, and Pontiac the makers of the Firebird, Trans Am and GTO. If Chevrolet or the Corvette ever goes then I will for sure know that the people in charge of GM have lost their minds. Corvettes For Sale are ads every American must answer at least once in their life time.

“The car is a 427 / 390 HP car
4sp, air, power windows and locks, leather interior.
We have changed the brake master cyl, put new brake lines on car…all new.
New front calipers, I have the originals yet.
I have new chrome big block valve covers, air cleaner and decals, 427 emblems for hood, crossed flags for front and rear of car, and outside door handles.

The stingray emblems are in decent shape yet, the side venting gill chrome is all missing. I have 6 older ones for the car

Need a vacuum pod for the wiper doors.
Needs vacuum work, you can see the headlights are still up.
Side pipes are cracked, they painted them white over the chrome before I bought it.
All new emblems / parts still in boxes.
I found some used cone wheel covers for it last year. It had the chev baby moons with it for some reason.
Bumpers had been rechromed before I bought it, they are back on the car.
BF Goodrich white letter tires, very good shape, like new, look nice on the car.
2 pictures of car below from when I first bought it 5 years ago.
The car has pretty much been sitting for the last 12 years.
Was repainted before I got it.
Has a couple of small nicks in the paint, 3 – 4.
Around 67,000 miles on car.
Chassis is in good solid shape, was undercoated when new, car came from southern Ohio.
Engine compartment looks … dusty dirty.
I figured for around $5000 … for interior, carpet, exhaust, and a few other things the car would be a very nice driver.

I think it is a nice looking car as is, but with the finishing touches it would be nice enough to show a bit.
Not a Barret Jackson car by any means.”

Good classic car dealers are hard to find. There are many classic cars for sale and many classic car dealers but a good quality car from a reputable dealer is rarer and rarer in the market place today. Some of the establishments I have visited have just reminded me of used car dealers. They just tell the prospective buyer what he wants to hear so he will make a purchase.

I have been told to leave some establishments when making inquires about whether the VIN numbers match the engine and transmission. Some of them even acted insulted because I wanted to check the numbers personally. When I have tried is when I have been asked to leave.
These are places that sell Camaros such as Z28 models or Tempo’s and Hemi’s or GTO’s. To buy an original production muscle car is getting harder and harder. This is due to the time lapse since they were made. The last real production muscle car was produced in 1974. Since this year is 2009, that makes the newest one over 35 years old. That is a lot of time for an engine to give out and the owner to replace it with an economical choice or a rear-end to sheer a pin and need to be replaced. All of this needs to be considered.

Just keep it in mind when you go looking. Ask questions, lots of questions and if you see hesitation or irritation in the face of the salesman, then beware a scam might be protruded on you. You all know that a completely original car with all matching numbers increases the value of a classic car. The seller should point out any known differences and if they do not then perhaps they are the type of person that would try to hide other details from you.

Not all classic car dealers are just used car dealers just a lot of them so buy with caution.

Most people and mustang enthusiasts love the little pony car especially the early years. As an old mechanic I preferred the older ones. It was basic to me, I am a big guy and those early ones were so small and the engine so large they were hard to work on.

From the year 1971 thru 1973 there was enough room to turn a wrench and not bust a knuckle. This was the first time the mustang’s wheelbase was extended to 109”. In addition only big engines were placed into the engine compartment. Gone was the mild 200 cu in six-cylinder. For 1971 the Boss 351 with 330 horsepower was the most widely produced stang that year. But also available were 2 versions of the 429. The standard and the Ram Air both with 370 horsepower.

The hood was longer and sleek looking while from the rear the large bold triple lenses could be seen as you pulled away from all that were behind you.

In 1971 was also the first year with the high bucket seats and power windows were an option. The Mach I trim option was still available along with the Boss trim option that came standard with the 351 Cleveland with the 4 bolt mains. The completion of the Boss package was the suspension combined with a 4 speed transmission and a Hurst shifter along with the 3.91:1 traction lock rear end made this car a dream to drive.

If you can find one of these classic mustangs for sale and they are still in good shape you have a true selection of muscle cars..

A Muscle car sale, how could that be true? Who would put a muscle car for sale at a discounted price? This is close to being a sin. With the demand so high a discount price is unheard of. For most places I have found that sell muscle cars the price is far from a sale price.

I did find a 1968 Chevy big block Camaro for only $24,500 and another Camaro for $23,500 with the RS option, but that is about as cheap as I could find for a car that ran and was nicely restored. I kept looking and noticed that the lower range of prices for muscle cars were mostly Camaro’s. I loved that car. It was fast and slick with all the power one would want. But then I remembered how many were made.

68 Camarro - courtesy flickr

I know supply and demand drive the market place of everything that is sold including muscle cars. I was disappointed in 2002 when Chevrolet discontinued production of this iconic pony car. There were four different generations of this car until it was discontinued. The first two generations were my favorites. The only draw back to owning one was the frame or lack there of one. They were unibody with only a subframe.

Yes do you remember like me seeing all those Camaro’s going down the street with a twisted frame and the front and rear tires not aligned. Most car lovers that I knew back then had the frame extensions put in to prevent this, but not everybody did so.

I was so glad when Chevrolet brought the Camaro back and for the first time I am grateful for the transformer cartoon. Yes when it was made into a movie and the car named Bumble Bee was such a hit, the management at GM took noticed and the Camaro was reborn.

So I kinda see muscle car sale now but not really.

There are many classic car auctions around our nation. Some are every week and some are once a year events. These can be tricky events if you are not prepared. There is time before each auction to inspect all of the cars. Make a complete inspection of all the cars you may want to bid on.

If you are the type of person that gets tunnel vision, then maybe you should avoid the auctions or have a friend accompany you. It is best to find at least three cars, if not more that you are interested in. Inspect each one and take notes. Test every component you can. Turn on every accessory just to make sure it works. Look at each light and ensure that they are all one. If possible stick a rod on the engine and listen for noise. Remember a deep thump is a main bearing while a light tap is in the valve train.

Before going to the auction see if you can find the same type of car you are looking for and ask the owner if you can inspect it. This will help give you a better idea of what to look for, especially the engine noises. If you do not know what noises to listen for in the engine then listening to one at the auction is meaningless. Be prepared.

As the cars you have looked at go past make sure you stick to your limit. There are times an outside bidder will want it no matter what. If you get stuck in one of those bidding wars, it will cost you dearly. Every once in a while the bidding wars are a plant by a shill to increase the price. Never look too eager and always act as if the car is just a car. This is the hardest thing to do. But at a classic car auction it is a must, if you can.

There are millions of used cars being sold every single day and at these American classic car auctions if you miss this one dream of a lifetime, just remember there is another one right around the corner that will get your juices flowing. Never go over your bid limit no matter how cute the auctioneer tries to be when coaxing out just one more bid increment. Remember the auctioneer could give a crap about the car. He just wants a little more commission money.

A good used muscle car is hard to find. Remember these cars were built to run fast and look bad. Most are over 30 yeas old and have a lot of miles on them So if you are in the market for a used muscle car whether it is a Mustang, Barracuda, Camaro, Firebird, GTO or Corvette, take your time and know the weak points of that particular model.

A perfect example is the Camaro and Firebird weaknesses. With large engines their bodies had a tendency to twist. This was because the designers built them on a unibody. Yes, it was not a complete frame just one that goes back about mid way where the transmission ends. The rest is just sheet metal. I have seen many of the Camaro’s with the 396 engines that would side step down the road.

The same goes for the Firebirds and Trans Am’s, a twisted body because of so much torque from the large engines. This can be corrected in a properly equipped body shop but that costs a lot of money. This should only be done if you are restoring a muscle car. If you just want to build a muscle car then buy a model with a smaller engine. You can still buy frame extensions to prevent the twisting. Have them in place before the large engine is installed. This is one way to be assured of ending up with a fine American classic car. If you are like me once the engine goes in I am out on a test run. Just to make sure it is running properly of course. Even a test run can twist the body or at least I can do it.

Just be careful with used muscle cars. Know the model and its weaknesses so you will get what you think you bought.

The all time American classic car for most is the 1957 Chevy Bel-Air. This classic car is better known as just 57 Chevy. This is one of the most loved and best recognized car in American automobile history. It was the last of a 3-year series that introduced the Chevy small block V-8 to the world.

Not too many people know this but the 57 Chevy was the car that almost wasn’t. General Motor’s executives wanted a whole new car for 1957 but they had production delays and were forced to continue the shoebox design of the 1955-6 for another year. Some redesigning was done which increased the length and made fuel injection an option. The ad for the car stated “The road isn’t built that can make it breathe hard”. The V-8 was combined with the all-new Turboglide transmission that gave this a quick smooth ride. Chevy officials were said to describe the car as “Sweet, Smooth and Sassy”.

An unusual point that I do not understand is that the 1957 Ford outsold this American Icon. But the 60’s is where this car made it big hit, as a used car. The car was cheap, light and fast that made it perfect for the younger crowd.

Today there is the Danchuk Manufacturing Inc and Classic Chevy International that makes and sells parts to keep the 57 Chevy’s running as long as you keep buying the new parts that are needed.

This car has been used as an icon for toys, graphics, music movies and television. This is the all time American Classic Car.

Just the words “Corvette for sale” bring back so many memories. It is hard to decide which Corvette is my favorite. But undoubtedly, one of the earliest is of a banana yellow one. A draftsman that worked for my father owned it. A beautiful 1969 stingray that had the mako modification kit added on it. I could never forget what looked like a menacing grin on from the front grill. It just looked mean. Along with the front modifications were the wheel-well flaring and the spoiler on the back. This was the baddest ride this pre-teen had ever seen. To top off the looks, it had my favorite wheels, mags.

Back then I just listened to him when he described what he had done to make it go faster while my eyes just enjoyed that great piece of eye candy. He emphasized the engine and certain components that helped the performance. I remember thinking why do those things? It doesn’t make it look any better. No one can see inside an engine. Yes, sooo naive was I!

I decided to learn more about why a high-rise cam with roller lifters meant so much to him. I also found out that the great-looking side pipes had an actual performance function. In time, I learned to really appreciate his car and all he had done.

There are a lot of great looking cars out there but if the performance package is not there or not adjusted and tuned right, it will be like most show Harleys I know of. They look great but need a truck to move because they are all show no go.

But that Corvette for sale was both show and go.

The need for the grease jockey to have a project classic car is great. But from time to time they get stuck on where to go and what is next. Sure there is the internet today with listings and listing of old cars for sale. These also have had added to their prices the finder’s fees and storage of the facilities that house them.

If one thinks back just a decade or so ago, before the internet there were still project classic cars being restored. Most of the older generation had a project car just to get to work. Not all of them were fancy but most of us had to work and the price of a new car was out of reach so we built one. You might end up with a great American Classic Car.

Do what was done in the past for a bargain project classic car; look in the rural gas stations. Old farmers that have passed on but left their cars in these small garages to be repaired and then forgotten about by the family is a great source, I know I found an old truck that way.

Other places to look are those old farms. With today’s farms being run by large corporations, a large number of family farms are no longer occupied. I know of a family friend that found a 1958 MGA in one. For a future car enthusiast, it will still be there. Yes it was purchased and has been worked on for 30 years but the engine still does not run nor is there any interior, including no seats. The last time I saw it was 10 years ago and I know nothing has been done to it. It is just waiting to be restored.

The internet is great for finding all the parts but the body to start your project classic car will be easier and cheaper if you rely on the best source of knowledge in the world, your elders.

Antique autos for sale is a sign that always gets my attention every time. Not only do I love old cars but also this sign is plural so I know there is more than one near each other. But the word antique is so vague one will never know what models and makes are there until you stop and look. The quest for American classic cars is never ending around here.

I am not usually disappointed but at times I am, but that happens in everything. I remember some years back traveling from St. Louis to Peoria to visit my mother on I55. I would see along the highway numerous signs reading just that antique cars for sale. Most of the time they were just old muscle cars for sale that have seen better days. My favorite place to visit was Country Classic Cars. This place was located just outside Staunton Illinois. They are on the east side of the highway up on the hill. There are about 100 cars in view of the drivers on the highway, which has caused a few close calls. I have had a few close calls there myself. I am not the only one looking at all the old cars.

They literally have hundreds of antique and classic cars, trucks and other items for sale. Inside one of their buildings are the finest selections they have that are protected from the weather. But unless one would stop they would never see them. The ones out in view of the highway are mostly in need of some type of repair.

The years of antique cars for sale are a wide range from 1929 to 2006. I do not consider the 2006 a classic car or an antique car but it is there but most of the vehicles are over 20 years old from almost every make and model. It is almost like stepping back in time. They have a Kaiser, a few old Willys not to mention the Packard but no Hudson’s.

To go back in time just follow the signs that read antique autos for sale and enjoy.

There is nothing like taking a ride in your classic car on Sunday and going to one of the Classic Car Shows. Spring is coming and all the gear heads are getting ready. If you are like me, my garage is heated and I have worked on my car all winter long. Some repairs were just to make sure it was still right and other parts did need fixing.

Yes this is one mechanical device that gets torn up even if it is not working. I know the old saying “if it’s not broken don’t fix it” but that does not apply to a classic car. Most are 20 or more years old and the metal will have some fatigue to it. This must be checked. I know some car collectors build their cars for the show and an occasional Sunday drive, but not me. I bought and built my classic car to drive and enjoy.

When I get in my other car it just seems wrong. The doors are so light and the noise and comfort level is just not there. I do get better gas mileage but it won’t get out of its own way. I guess it is just what one gets used to.

The kids nowadays are amazed at the old cars and the difference between them and the new ones. You can always tell when a kid has never been in an old car and they have trouble closing the door. I always tell them ”that is made out of real metal”.

I am so glad the classic car shows are still go on. Spring is in the air and I am ready to place my baby in the show.

During times like the present recession or depression, investments are not always stable. But classic car values are holding steady. These investments are more than just a thing of value but loved and admired by all that see them.

It is well known fact that a car nut will pay anything for that special, one of a kind car he has always dreamed of. This is a constant. For most of us though this is a labor of love. When restoring a classic car the value usually does not even come to mind. The price of that hard to find part is never too high; the thought is “I finally got it.” This is the same with the overall value of your pride and joy.

The market might not be large at this time but there is always a market for classic cars and the value of classic cars are always on the rise do to their scarcity. I found an old Mach 1 from 1969. It looks like it has not run in years and has three different color body panels on it but they still want over $6000 for it. Back as a teenager in the late 70’s my neighbor bought one in better shape and it ran balls to the walls for only $700. That’s almost a thousand percent increase.

Classic car values will always rise; just make sure you know what you have or what you are looking at. Pontiac enthusiasts know this for sure. A Tempo is not a Lemans, which is not a GTO. I have seen many disguised in the past. Do your homework and help keep those classic car values up. They are more than just an investment.

Notice: We are starting an honor system advertising program for those of you that have American Classic Cars for sale. Send us you ad copy, with your name address and phone number, a full description of the vehicle (particularly any faults,) and most importantly the actual price that you are asking for the vehicle.

You may submit up to six good quality digital images of the vehicle and we will run your advetisement at no cost to you at the time you place the ad.

When you sell the vehicle, you are on your honor to send us a payment of $50.00 $100.00 USD for helping you make the sale. That’s all there is to it. The ad will stay up until it is sold. You can’t beat that deal and we will reach the proper targeted audience of potential buyers.

There are many trucks being advertised as antique trucks for sale, but is it truly an antique? The going norm is 20 years old is a classic and 25 years old is an antique so do not be fooled. These ages were set by the government as the dates that they will allow you to license your vehicle under these classifications.

The easiest place to find an antique truck already restored is either the Internet, local newspaper or like in so many larger towns the local antique and classic car dealerships. I have been into a few of these dealerships and they truly are a place to visit. Most do the restoring themselves. This is done with painstaking detail, but you pay for it upon purchase but oh what a nice job most do.

It is amazing the condition that some trucks are in when they arrive. Until a few years ago trucks were for men and performed work for their whole life span. Most were modified to fit the need of the owner to suit a specific need on the job site or farm.

The antique truck parts are still possible to find and even sometimes in good condition. But while looking at a restored antique truck that is for sale, ask the appropriate questions like who was the previous owner? What did he do for a living? When was the truck restored? For the really old trucks one thing that is usually not thought of is in using old wood where appropriate. In the past truck beds were made of wood. Finding the right type and age of wood might be difficult but would increase the value of your antique truck.

There are many antique trucks for sale just do your research before getting all googoo eyed on one in front of the owner. That will only increase the price to you.

Notice: We are starting an honor system advertising program for those of you that have American Classic Cars for sale. Send us you ad copy, with your name address and phone number, a full description of the vehicle (particularly any faults,) and most importantly the actual price that you are asking for the vehicle.

The automotive industry is flooded with new and different car models and hot rods for sale. This happens because manufacturers would like to give car owners and enthusiasts the type of car that can satisfy their ultimate dreams. They want to create and provide the dream cars that each one of us have always wanted.

The efforts that the manufacturers exert just to provide us the car that we want is really great. But sometimes, what we want to have in our car is not perfectly made by them. Most of the time we don’t like their generic color finishes on the car.

We don’t want to own a car similar to the one that our neighbors have. Most of the time, we want to be unique to stand out in the crowd. Instead of having a fresh vehicle from manufacturer’s warehouse, we should think about getting hot rods. These types of cars are much better than the factory released ones.

With hot rods, you can enjoy better exterior and interior looks. You can find the hot rods that are perfectly designed according to your personality and preferences.

Hot rod vehicle are physically “hot”, but the modification can extend to other parts and components. Some hotrods are made with better engine, great suspensions and other vital parts that can make it extra special.

If you are interested in finding your very own hot rod vehicle, the net can provide you the answer. There are various online stores where you can pick the one that you need. They are offering great varieties of hot rods for sale so take a glance on the selection that they have today.

If you have a hot rod for sale you may advertise it here on this website on the honor system. There is no charge at the time you place the ad, just pay us $50 when you sell it. Contact us for more details.

Vehicle owners are usually worried about depreciation and dropping down of classic car values. They are concerned because they think five or ten years from now their vehicles will totally lose its worth.

This is half true and half not, because there’s always a way to prevent the possibility of depreciation. If you will just take good care of your car and provide it its needed regular maintenance check, there’s no way for that possibility to ever happen.

Actually, if you will keep on customizing and improving your vehicle, you can make its value go higher. In general, your car needs proper and constant maintenance to stay in good shape.

Car restoration as well as customization can be done effectively if you have the right parts. This does not mean that you have to get the most expensive car parts offer today. What you have to look for is quality and suitability to your vehicles application.

If you consider these two when choosing parts, you can make your vehicle look better and exceptionally perform on the road. Keep your vehicle in utmost functionality and running condition. Always check if some parts are defective or malfunctioning. Problems especially in its mechanical parts should always be given immediate attention and solution.

If you don’t have an old valuable car but you have plans on getting one, decide today. Don’t make it end as a plan, start looking for the vehicle model that you want. Don’t think negatively, get your dream car and start your modification.

Your classic car values will never suffer any depreciation as long as you do your part. It will even become an investment that you can boast to your friends and pals about.

There are some differences in a modern car auction and a Classic Car Auction. Most car auctions are not specific to any make or model of the cars that they will offer. These cars come from overstocked lots or from fleet vehicles that are being sold from a business or the government. You will want to arm yourself with any of the current Classic Car Trader publications that are available to be prepared to spot a real bargain.

There are specialized car auctions that will devote itself to one make of car and there are a few that devote the entire auction to make and model, as well as for Classic American Cars. The buyer needs to know exactly what they want to buy before attempting to participate.

The more determined a buyer is to find a specific make or model will dictate which car auction they need to attend and when. There is a Classic American Car auction out there for the discerning buyer, but it takes time and effort to find the right one.

The most popular car auction is the traditional lot type auction. Here there are no constraints of the types of vehicles that you buy and sell. The cars are showcased in a lot outside the auction house for about an hour or two before the auction starts. Here the buyer can walk through rows of cars to find the car that will fit both the buyers taste and finances. The auction is open to all buyers though car dealers represent the majority of the crowd. The action is fast and furious and the novice car buyer may be lost in the confusion of the rapid fashion in which the auctioneer presents the bids. The traditional car auction may diversify into other vehicles such as boats, tractors, or motorcycles.

Another narrower type of car auction is the make car auction. Here only a specified makes of vehicles we be offered. The cars usually come from a franchised lot. The cars are often new or slightly pre-owned and are being sold to make room for the New Year’s inventory. This car auction is populated mostly by car dealers with a high spending power and years of experience in the profession. Some of the make car auctions are only offered to other dealers that sell that make of car. Before attending this type of car auction make sure that you are authorized to attend.

A more focused car auction is a large lot auction that specifies in the specific make and model of the automobile. For example, a car auction might only present Ford Mustangs for sale. This would draw car enthusiasts and body shops to the auction instead of the plethora of car dealers. The car enthusiast crowd would probably be more financially secure than a novice buyer and no specifically what to look for in a Mustang. With such as centered audience, the bidding could get very high, very fast.

The pre-viewing times in the lot will probably be a little longer than the traditional car auctions. This will allow the experts to go over the cars and find the best value for their money. The description of the vehicle by the auctioneer may be more detailed to get a higher interest in the vehicle and thus raise the price.

Generally speaking you can follow all of the above information for an American Classic Car Sale, as well as current or recent year makes and models. The information about the auctions is relatively the same. Don’t forget to take your Classic Car Trader list of Classic Car Values with you.

When the 1957 Bel Air went on sale, nobody – not even Chevrolet – expected to make history. Instead, it became one of the landmark images in American pop culture; one of the most recognizable cars the world has ever known. Today, automakers still hail the 57 Chevy as a perfect example of good design and great timing coming together.

What we call the 57 Chevy was actually 19 distinct models. All 19 models were based on a single frame or platform, the basic structure of the car. The 1957 models were the final year in that frame’s life. It had been the backbone for Chevrolet’s model line for the 55, 56 and 57 model years. The only other car Chevrolet sold then was the Corvette.

Ford and Chrysler had all new frames and styling for their 57 models. They should have mopped the floor with the aged GM model, but Chevrolet outsold Ford by 126 cars in 1957. It sold 1,522,536 units of the various 57 Chevy models and 6,339 Corvettes.

The best-selling 1957 model was the Two-Ten four-door sedan, with a base price of $2,174.00. The least expensive was the $1,885.00 One-Fifty Utility two-door sedan. The most expensive 1957 model was the Bel Air Nomad two-door station wagon with a $2,757.00 base price. It was Chevrolet’s lowest-selling model. Chevrolet sold just 6,103 Nomads that year, trailing the Corvette by 236 sales.

Some of the options for that year included, seat belts and a racing-style over-the-shoulder security harness. Other options included a tissue dispenser, electric razor, wheel spinners, backup lights and a gas filter. The cars came in 16 solid colors and 15 two-tone combinations.

Many 57 Chevy’s featured a prism on the dashboard. It was intended to refract light from traffic signals so the driver could tell when the light changed without learning forward under the nearly vertical windshield.

The cars came with a choice of seven engines; a standard 235.5 cubic-inch 140-hp straight-six; 162-hp 265 cubic-inch V8, and eight versions of the 283 cubic-inch V8 with power ranging from 185 to 283 horsepower. The 57 Chevy was the first American car with fuel injection. The optional 283 cubic-inch fuel-injected V8 produced 283 horsepower. It was the second American engine to develop one horsepower per cubic inch of displacement, coming a year after the 355-hp 354 cubic-inch Chrysler Hemi.

Ten assembly plants built the 57 Chevy Family: Atlanta, Baltimore; Flint; Janesville, Wis.; Kansas City, Mo.; Los Angeles; Norwood, Ohio; Oakland, Calif., St. Louis, and Tarrytown, N.Y.

Many designers and car enthusiasts say they believe the 1955 Chevy was the best looking model, but the 57 model year brought more defined tailfins, bullet-shaped bumper protectors, bombsight hood ornaments and other elements that gave the bargain-priced Chevrolet just enough zing to grab buyers’ fancy.

The 57 Chevy had style, the buzz born of racing success and demographics on their side. They hit the used-car market just as early baby boomers got driver’s licenses and went looking for affordable wheels.

The 57 Chevy embodied the spirit of Chevrolet, great looking, groundbreaking and affordable.

Joyce Boulan is the owner of a website pertaining to the 57 Chevy, where you can find deals on all models of this classic car or find parts or accessories for the one you own. Visit http://www.57chevy-auction.com

A common question among buyers of classic cars is what to do after they have acquired that vintage gem: restore it, or customize it? Both options have their own advantages and disadvantages. Here we will tackle the different aspects of restoration and customization to help you decide which route to take for your car.

A common question among buyers of classic cars is what to do after they have acquired that vintage gem: restore it, or customize it? Both options have their own advantages and disadvantages. Here we will tackle the different aspects of restoration and customization to help you decide which route to take for your car.

Restoration: Authentic is Beautiful

Restoring a classic car means finding the original parts and options for a particular model. This means that if you own a Cuda with a broken Hemi engine, you need to find a stock Hemi in order to restore it. Paint is a different matter. While the authentic paint of a certain make may not be existent today, there are several car services that offer the color of that make, thus making it still look original.

The Advantages of Restoring a Classic

1. Restoring poses a bigger challenge, thus there’s much more love between you and your car. It might be a bit easy to find a stock engine, but looking for the small parts like the starter will be a bit of an adventure. Once you finish restoring, you’ll certainly find a greater attachment between you and your car.

2. Fully restored classic cars spike up in value. Because there’s much more effort and money put into restoring, you can easily raise the price of the car once you decide to sell it. A perfectly restored vintage car can be valued at over a hundred grand in pro auctions.

3. You get to have an authentic car. There’s nothing more advantageous than that.

The Disadvantages of Restoring a Classic

1. The parts are hard to find, and are therefore expensive. Unless you engage in a treasure hunt and search for parts cars in junkyards and auctions, stock parts may be a little expensive. The reason for this is simple: car companies don’t produce those parts anymore, so it would be considered rare by most people, much like a classic car.

2. Safety, efficiency, and comfort are sometimes compromised. A ’50s era car may have no proper airbags and seatbelts yet. The engine is probably not fuel efficient, and the suspension may be a bit shaky. And if you decide to go cheap and recycle a used engine from a parts car, expect it to break down at least once due to stress.

Customization: Convenience Along With Funkiness

Customizing a classic car means adding or changing some parts and details that are not originally included in that make. This might include a better engine, suspensions, and more comfortable seats. The paint might also be customized. Perhaps you have seen a Mustang with blazetrails on the side. That’s customization.

The Advantages of Customizing a Classic

1. Safety and convenience is the primary advantage of customization. Updating your car with more fuel-efficient engines and better seatbelts and airbags will make your ride much smoother and safer.

2. Parts are easier to find, and are sometimes much cheaper. Engines are much easier to find, but nonetheless still poses a challenge. You will have to find an alternative engine that fits into your classic car. Still, you can find smaller parts in an easier manner.

3. You get to have cool additions to your liking. Hydraulics, superchargers, and funky lights are among the many options you can add if you customize. Cool blazetrails too.

The Disadvantages of Customizing a Classic

1. The value of your classic car will go down. A heavily modified car will have its value become lower than those who are simply restored. If you are planning to sell your car in a few years time, the better option would be to restore.

2. If you plan to sell the car, you might have a difficult time finding a buyer. Most buyers of classic cars are looking for one that would be easily restored. A dusty and rusting vehicle is therefore much more preferred because some original parts included in the car may still be used.

The best gauge to determine whether you should customize or restore a classic car is to know what your dream car is like. What’s good about this is that you could easily combine customization and restoration. Restore everything that’s under the hood, and get cool blazes on the hood itself. Your preference is king.

We are working on installing just the right photo editor and management utilities to bring a very nice collection of American Classic Cars to the Internet.

The first collection available is a private accumulation of Ninety One vehicles that are sitting in our barns just waiting to see the light of day. You will not be disappointed. This collection has been built up very quietly and without any public knowledge by a father and son team that are now going to start offering them for sale.

Absolutely no private sales or offers will be considered or accepted. Do not rush us and do not ask for a list of what we will be offering. This whole collection will be displayed through this website only as we feel is best for the owners, and as we can do the photos and descriptions justice.

These vehicles are all guaranteed to be new to market, and never offered anywhere else before.

Check back soon and watch our progress.
