The 99er extension is necessary. Unemployment is actually 16%-20%. corps are sitting on billions. Congress gives hundreds-of-Billions to Big British Petro, Big Oil, Big Banks, Big Corps – BUT can’t give 1 billion to help Americans who are unemployed due to the Big Banks playing Roulette with the economy? Congress gave 760 BILLION to top 1% wealthiest – BUT can’t help the unemployed? Never in US history has the Congress cut-off unemployment when levels were above 7%. I say Fire Congress – especially Republicans – and remind Republicans their salaries are public tax dollars too! Fire all Republicans – they are awful.

I’m a 56 year old male and willing to work.I’m in construction and finding it very difficult to find work.Even younger people are having a tough time.I need some help.Borrowing money is getting hard to do.A Tier 5 will help out in the time of need.My heart goes out to all that is struggling now.Good luck to you all..

The 99ers seem to be falling into the background as there are much more important issues going on right now like analyzing Charlie Sheen’s brain. Give me a break!!! All of this attention is taking the focus off of the unemployed. We need to continue to unite. Things are starting to happen and protest groups are popping up. Keep it going guys. We can make a difference. We can’t travel to protest because we don’t have the resources, however, we can have protest groups in our own communities if we have enough people. 99ers – CALL TO ACTION NATIONAL MARCH FOR JOBS APRIL 2ND
I saw this a few days ago and it appears one of our fellow 99ers is mobilizing us to ACTION on a particular date. Since most of us can’t trek to DC we are being asked to do what we can in our local hometowns on April 2nd. As we all have different gifts and talents it is up to YOU to do what you can to make this happen!

  Hi Lynne, I just saw your great post.
  You hit it on the head, 99ers are broke and can’t go to DC. But everyone can work together locally and push this all the way to Mars.
  This will truly be a nationwide march if everyone just keeps talking and spreading the word, I and many others including yourself are constancy, posting, tweeting etc and tracking the progress.
  It is growing and getting larger all the time.

Hi,
I am a 99er. I feel as if they are trying to send us (the 99ers) underground as in the movie Judge Dredd. With nowhere to turn and no one to help. As I continuously go without food, I wonder could I steal, will I steal, and from whom will I steal. Is this foreseen in the near future?
Storyline
The Year is 2139. The Planet Earth has changed into a virtually uninhabitable place called the “Cursed Earth”. I still don’t see the end of the tunnel even after more than 2 years of unemployment. I sent hundreds of resumes and I even applied for minial jobs in no avail. I don’t see where all the rehiring is taking place. The other day, a photographer came to take a picture of my house after months of being deliquent in paying the mortgage. I have applied for modification twice, and they turned me down twice. I bought my house two years prior to the housing collapse, and I can’t believe that mortgage company continue to collect the same amount with no regards to the economic havoc that they created and put millions of people in misery. The middle class American is doomed; we have been slowly suffocated with no way to escape this condition.

I am so disgusted with Congress over this. AND, it doesn’t really matter if it’s the Republicans blocking it because they think we are all lazy or want to offset the cost before they sign; or the Deomcrats for not fighting harder to get this included in the bill that was signed in December. They are BOTH POS and are NOT looking out for Americans, oh wait….maybe the very rich, those are taking care of.
You can find hundreds of BILLIONS of dollars to bail out banks, car manufacturers and other big business, BUT you can’t find a few measely dollars to help out the most suffering Americans since the great depression. And, every dollar you give this group WILL be spent to help stimulate the economy. Your recent fights for repealing Health Care all together and repealing abortion is a complete waste of time. Work on the stuff that matters you ignorant callous group of do nothings….
WRITE your Senate and House rep NOW. And get others to write too. That is the only way this gets passed.

  Why can’t congress do something about a tier V extension? Another few weeks of unemployment insurance – call it tier 5, extended benefits or whatever you want – would sure help poeple in my situation.

How the hell can we all go to Washington when our cars wont start because no gas, or we have no cars anymore or a home to take a bath in or a yard to take a shit in? Someone tell me how we are all going to get to Washington to pitch a bitch about the help we need. Maybe a bus from washington – Obamha driving will pick up everyone in the US that is a 99er and take a ride to the big Whitehouse and move into there lawn.

I am a healthy man 72 yrs old. I was laid off from a good job in Oct. 2007. I thought ok well I can live on my retirement ….WRong! cost of living has almost tripled since then yet Obama says NO!!!, My daughter lost her job of 10 yrs and had to move in with us with her little 3 yr boy.We now live on barly enuff to get buy. Cold winters have wiped us out with high utillity bills,Gas rates, grocerys are sky high ,but Obama says nothing has gone up! I am a 99r and I apply daily for work I have over 30 yrs experiance but no one is interested, they now can hire younger men at half to 1/3 rd of my pay exp. Not only are employers taking advantage of the unemployed they get them for near nothing, and profit very well.This government is far more concerned about billions to dicktaters than anything for Americans suffering. I am sorry to say I voted for Obama,never again!! from here on I am Independent…the Rep. and Dem. are all so corrupt and self serving That they are cutting each others throats to pocket more oil money for them selves, there own greed will bring them down, as it did to Rome…….

Well it is Monday I wonder if congress is going to do anything to help today? Probably not but we can always hope.I put a funny new widget on my website where you can upload a picture of yourself and make it look funny you ought to try it it might make you laugh for a minute. We can all use a good laugh they say it is good for your soul. Well going back to putting in applications and hoping for the best.

we paid our taxes when its due, if we don’t pay taxes we get penalized. now is not the time to argue whether to give the 99ers extended benefits or not, what if its you would you still think or would just sign it and let us get the extension. when the politicians need votes, we are there for them, now where are they to help us.

Great idea let’s give money to Libya! Let’s help someone else raise our gas prices and forget about our fellow Americans struggling to make ends meet! I have been unemployed since December 2008, I send out resumes every single day! I never even get a response. We need help now! Obama where are these jobs you keep talking about? Until then pass the tier 5! I bet if it was an election year you would have passed the tier 5 by now. No where is it written that unemployment stops at 99 weeks. I have worked for over 20 years and have paid into unemployment for over 20 years, now it is time to get that money back! Enough nonsense all ready!

My name is Cathy I have been unemployed since July,2009 I drew unemployment for 74 weeks
I received my last check in December, 2010. I need for the extension for the long term
unemployed to pass before I become homeless. I am already behind on every payment I owe to anybody

What ever they want to call it tier 5 or ext. on to tier 1.We all need help deseratly now to pay utilities,mortgage,rent ,food ,etc.were the the citizens of this great country who have always paid our taxes supported our country in war & peace.Now its our time for help,ask gates.We can no longer afford to get mired in long term wars.That are fought on a credit card called china with no limit.This borders on treason,running our country into bankruptcy & balancing the budget on our backs,flushing us down the toilet.We tried foreing leaders on this.Are some of our gov’t officials excempt.We dont want downtown cairo coming to our cities.So get it straightened out fast.God be with us all.

  I am also a 99er. Here in upper michigan, jobs are scarce and hard to find. It seems everything is closed or is about to be closed. Jobs are still moving out of state and even out of the country!! We need help not only with unemployment extentions, but also a bill that will not let a company move from its original area…thats whats harming the economy.
  I have also noticed that a lot of places that are hiring are only part-time or seasonal, so i need more than just one job just to make ends meet…..where do i find these 2-3 jobs, and when i do find them how do i get them to hire me instead of the younger generation??

  We as sold American’s are in trouble. If 60 or over we are not going to get hired. Can anyone tell me where I need to go for help.
  I am embarrassed to go to the church food bank anymore. They act like I am not trying to get a job. I have lowered my living to this: One meal a day, usually beans or something cheap. I find that one chicken can give me three days of food. Let’s try to help each other on tips for food or anything that will make our lives easier. I have turned off my hot water heater and limited bathing to twice a week.
  Helps the electric bill. Can anyone give us anything meaningful that will help. Thank you very much.

    I am a 58yr old female. work few hours a week, and collected partial unemployment, I am an older worker I to find it difficult to servive this economy.
    While politicians are fighting over umemployment extensions, I am going to be homeless in a few days.. by the time they get off thier asses it maybe to late to help me.
    But I do know so many people need the unemployment benefits to continue.. Please keep posting your thoughts and idas to the Presidents web site.. he needs to hear from us.

I am tired of living day by day.. I know I have alot more than some people.. I am not homeless..   Like so many here, my husband exhausted his unemployment a few months ago. Like so many others here, he can’t find another job. He is 60 years old and a talented mechanic. Hundreds of resumes. Quite a few interviews, but some prospective employers have stated frankly that they expected to find someone younger. I also had lost my job, but was lucky to find another, but with a pay cut. So we live on one salary and nibbled away at all our savings to make up the shortfall. This week I sold the last few shares of stock we owned. Next month we won’t have enough to pay our bills. We never go out or ‘do’ anything. We can’t even afford the gas to just go out for a ride. Soon enough we’ll just be another foreclosure statistic. I don’t mean to be a drama queen, but I cry myself to sleep every night. We both worked hard all our lives being productive and paying bloated New Jersey taxes. For what? We’ve lost our future.

  Tier 5 is long overdue. The problem as I see it is that Washington does not have a strategic gameplan to generate real confidence in the market and pro business policies that would generate long term growth and sustainable job gains. In short, they don’t know if and when measurable job gains will occour. As a result, they are at best guessing on the number of weeks to extend Tier 5. If they had a tangible gameplan they would simply say within 3 months we expect reasonable job growth based on the policies we have previously implemented. They don’t have a clue! Without this gameplan, Tier 5 is temporary. Instead they choose to ingnore the millions of Americans who lost thier jobs through no fault of thier own, rather than be “transparent” as promised and admit the real numbers of unemployed.

  I’m into my 2nd year of unemployment. At 58 years old, I had a great paying job in the construction field, only to be laid off in 2009 due to the economy. I don’t want handouts. I don’t want welfare. I want to work, like all of the unemployed people do. I am thankful for the unemployment benefits, as it is better than nothing. I only have 2 more weeks left and that is it. I’ve applied for hundreds of jobs, sent out and handed out hundreds of resumes. I have good skills, qualifications, and work experience. But that hasn’t helped me get a job. I’ve applied at places where they had positions available, only to have younger people get the job, even though I have the skills and experience. I’m sure my age is a big factor. Too young to retire and collect Social Security, and too old to get a job. What are we to do?? I don’t want to lose everything I have worked so hard for all these years! You can’t live on nothing. Thanks to everyone in Washington still fighting for us. We need an extension until we can find jobs! God help us all.

    I am part of the over 55 group of unemployed with a great skill set and yet still unemployed. Many – many resumes have been sent, many telephone interviews but when I get to the one on one interview things go downhill from there. Too young for SS but too old for a “new hire” – hoping and hoping tomorrow brings a brighter day.

  There are a lot of people who would love to donate to 99ers fund if we knew the money was getting to the people. Is there such an organization? If not, how do we go about creating one? People are heart broken to see our fellow citizens suffer like this. I for one, would love to help them, but have no idea how. Are the food banks taking care of you? Who is helping with your mortgage? If you have found a charity that has helped you, let us know who they are and where to donate. Praying for all of you and for this country to get back on it’s feet quickly.

  I AM CONSIDERED A 99ER, UNEMPLOYED FOR 3 PLUS YEARS, EXHAUSTED ALL BENEFITS ON UNEMPLOYMENT, SENT OUT OVER 300 RESUMES WITH VERY FEW RESPONSES. I AM A SENIOR CITIZEN THAT HAD A GOOD JOB, AND MADE A DECENT SALARY, NOW I CAN’T FIND A JOB FLIPPING BURGERS, AND I HAVE A COLLEGE DEGREE. QUESTION; WE NEED ANOTHER TIER EXTENDED, TIER 5 RIGHT NOW, NOT NEXT MONTH, RIGHT NOW. UNTIL THE RECESSION IS OVER AND JOBS ARE OPENING UP AGAIN, WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET ADDITIONAL EXTENSIONS ON UNEMPLOYMENT. IT FEELS TERRIBLE TO WANT TO WORK DESPERATELY AND NOT BE ABLE TO FIND A JOB, BECAUSE THERE ARE NOT JOBS OUT THERE.

  I am so sick of these people fighting. Can’t they just help the tax paying people here! And that’s another thing. They want you to pay taxes on unemployment! How in the heck can we pay taxes? When we don’t have any money. Are you serious? JESUS PLEASE HELP US ALL! We can’t do any thing, because we don’t have any money! Plus! We can’t find a damn JOB! It just freaking makes my head HURT! I am shocked that Obama has yet to address the plight of the 99ers. Let us ask the Lord for these people in Congress to open their hearts. They’re a heartless set of human beings!

  I am a 99 weeker, and I worked on my last job fot 13 years. I applied for a lot of posistions. when you put down your last pay rateand they see that you were making 40,000 plus a year they feel that you won’t be there long at min. wage. They won’t even call you back. I have six kids and I can’t get food stamps because they say that our income is above proverty level. I feel that anyone that is unemployed should be able to get food stamps. if you worked and paid taxes you should be able to get everything you deserve. It a lot of people geeting these services and haven’t workeed anywhere and don’t pay and have never paid any taxes

  Thank you Barbara Lee, we need someone on our side!!! However, we cannot wait another second we need this help now! We can’t wait until next month, we have lost everything. Please push for this bill to pass as soon as possible and for it to be retroactive from a year ago, meaning we get all of our 14 weeks in one whop! That is the only way we would be able to keep our homes and get the things we need after having been without for over a year now! Please, help us now!!!!! Thanks again and god bless you! I do think we should get at least 20 weeks, we have been left out of the last three extensions.

  Incredible!! They give billions of emergency $$$$ to foreign country for disasters, but don’t give back to the ones whi have worked 40 years plus and paid taxes!!!   Finally someone in politics is picking up the ball for us 99ers!!!! but beware for us in FLorida !!!! there is a representative from naples that is proposing that community service be done to get unemployment benefits or it will be denied…i do not agree because i think if required then it should be for all states receiving benefits not just some in a particular state …thank you barbara for your help, its not easy to apply for jobs (even flipping burgers) and being told your too old or overqualified for the job again and again….my stress level is in an alltime high when its time to buy food or pay rent (cause i already lost house)–i pray that this will go thru….thank you

  in 2008 was managing gm commercial truck lot earning 150k+ annually, after 2 dealerships locked their doors, i came home to wait it out-3 years later gm got the money,but i can’t find a job-even at hourly wage-i can start up a new business, but not without some financial assistance, which tier 5 would accomplish-why won’t the government help or pay back the source of revenue (taxes) that they spent and gave everone else?? AND if all the banks and insurance agencies and all the other recipients of the loans they were given with my tax dollars have paid back their loans including interest why is the deficit at the same amount and the government doesn’t want to spend anymore?? anymore of my money-we know why-there isn’t anymore money-they put it all in their already rich, greedy pockets- ben laden did less harm to the american public- the terroists are in washington-wait till the military finds their parents and grandparents are sick with no health care, homeless and hungry-and we are on foreign soil to show them the correct way to run a country??? give back to the american public or go home.

I have been unemployed for almost 2 years now and losing my benefits. My husband lost his job too in the RV industray we had to relocate for work and he went to college for a new trade aand this causing us to relocate away from family and children. Now i am trying to find a job and looking for work. I have office skills and i have been in the rental business for over 10 years. Think i can find a job??? no and must say we lost our home and alot and now we may lose more. no i dont think our politicians are doing enough. they get there pay and half of them dont do anything but sit and argue. Cut there pay and put them on a fixed income and have them work for less as they say we should and see how they feel… We need to stand together and rally against this and help the middle class before we are no longer here….

Americas Unemployed: Senate passes tax cut extension

The U.S. Senate passed the Middle Class Tax Relief Act of 2010 today by a vote of 81-19. It now goes to the House of representatives, which could take up the matter as early as today.
The bill, for the most part, mirrors the deal President Obama struck earlier last week with Republican leadership for extending the Bush-era tax cuts for all citizens and unemployment insurance for millions of out-of-work Americans.

The $900 billion bill extends the tax cuts for all income brackets for two years and sets the estate tax at 35 percent with a $5 million exemption.
The Democrats had originally planned to extend the tax breaks only for people making under $250,000 a year. But Senate Republicans threatened to use their filibuster power to block all legislation Democrats may attempt in this lame duck session, unless the tax break was extended for America's wealthiest citizens as well.
The bill provides a 13-month extension of unemployment insurance benefits wanted by Democrats, and an extension of the ethanol tax credit, which is supported by both sides. The measure also includes extensions of the American Opportunity Tax Credit for college tuition, the Child Tax Credit and the Earned Income Tax Credit, and a $120 billion payroll tax reduction for workers.

The bill must still pass the House, which last week rejected a similar bill. The House could take up the measure as early as later today.
Some House democrats are talking about amending the bill. Republicans are warning that too much change may lose their support. House Democratic leadership is telling its members that compromise is the only way. President Obama is telling House Democrats that this compromise is the only way to ensure that middle-class Americans don't get walloped with higher taxes, and millions of them don't get stranded without unemployment insurance.

In his speech to the United Nations General Assembly on the 23rd of September, President Obama apologized to the rest of the world for our economic meltdown. Yes, apparently, their economies were very hard-hit, and their dreams are either dashed or postponed because America is a Capitalist nation.
In his speech, Obama said, “Two years ago this month, a financial crisis on Wall Street devastated American families on Main Street. The global economy suffered an enormous blow during the financial crisis, crippling markets and deferring the dreams of millions on every continent.” Really? So, it’s America’s fault that other economies had all their eggs in one basket, counting on the American consumer to keep consuming, even though layoffs were- and still are-rampant.

It’s America’s fault that other countries depend on America to not only settle their military problems, but to keep their economies afloat, while they do little or nothing for themselves? Most of the 192 member Nations of the United Nations can’t stand America. They were laughing amongst themselves with glee when Wall Street fell two years ago.The U.N. has been a blight on America for years. America is the host nation- the UN building is here, in New York City. Some of the people allowed to sit on certain councils should be jailed for Human Rights Violations. Some are just plain psychotic jokes of nations, and all of them want to try to tell America how to run the affairs of Americans and their lives, when they can’t run their own affairs, or make the lives of their own citizens better.

Every year, there is a new referendum at the UN to try to get Americans’ gun rights taken away or severely restricted. Every year, Millions, even Billions, of dollars are spent on lavish food and drink for these so-called diplomats. Every year, the same, or nearly the same amount is spent on security to protect the very diplomats who believe America should not be a free and sovereign nation, able to decide her own affairs.
Our own diplomat, Susan Rice, cannot even be bothered to be at the UN half the time, even though she is “stationed” in New York. Libya was appointed to the Human Rights Council, and Iran was appointed to the UN Women’s Committee. Iran appointed to the Women’s Committee? The same Iran that kills female government protesters first, pays the Taliban $1000 for every dead American soldier, and still stones women to death on a stupid suspicion that should be no one’s business but her own in the first place?
The Iran that said America and Israel conspired to have the World Trade Center bombed? Yep. That’s the one.

Anyone who wonders why there are no jobs, why there is no Tier 5, where the Stimulus and Stimulus II money is truly being spent needs to know that there are no jobs because our government is busy fixing the economy of 192 other countries. There is no Tier 5, because we paid for lavish meals and security for 192 other countries’ delegations.
Stimulus I and Stimulus II are really being spent to keep afloat all the other nations of the world, to teach them to wash their genitals and thus save the world from the health problem of raw bottoms and smelly feet, and to buy cookstoves for people who have no use for electric or gas cookstoves because they have no electric or gas.

The real Stimulus is being wasted on the UN, who deserves to be kicked out of the US. The real Stimulus is being spent to fix every place but home. I guess when we all live in tent cities, maybe Libya and Iran will send us some left over camel meat in cans to feed our kids with. Right.

The U.S. Birth rate is at and all time low. In fact it's the lowest birth rate in 100 years. The culprit: The current economic crisis.The situation is a striking turnabout from 2007, when more babies were born in the United States than any other year in the nation's history. The recession began that fall, dragging stocks, jobs and births down. “When the economy is bad and people are uncomfortable about their financial future, they tend to postpone having children,” Andrew Cherlin, a sociology professor at Johns Hopkins University, told AP.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 4,136,000 children were born in 2009, which was down 2.6 percent from the 2008 estimate. That followed a similar decline in 2008, which was the beginning of the economic downturn. The CDC said the 2009 numbers are preliminary and could change. There have not been any details disclosed on the characteristics of women who gave birth in 2009.

The National Center for Health Statistics said that births fell 2.7 percent last year even as the population grew. "It's a good-sized decline for one year. Every month is showing a decline from the year before,"StephanieVentura, the demographer who oversaw the report, told The Associated Press (AP). "It could take a few years to turn this around," he added, noting that the birth rate stayed low throughout the 1930s.

As you search for jobs everyday praying that today is the day you find work, there is actually evil lurking waiting to take advantage of you. The BBB is now warning job seekers to beware of scam artist preying on the unemployed. Schemers are posing as employers who are hiring. The goal of most employment scams is to get the victim to pay up front fees or give away personal information. Many have fallen victim to these scams believing they have landed an exciting new career opportunity. Craigslist, Career builder and Monster.com have been flooded with false jobs adds.

Here is an example of how you could be scammed: You are offered a position as a remote assistant. Your Boss will need you to make some payments to a few of his clients. He will send you a check in the mail and you will cash this check at your bank. The check is in the amount of $5,000.00. You are instructed to pay out $4,500.00 and keep $500.00 as a sign on bonus. Just when you thought you landed the job of your dreams, your bank lets you know that the check was fraudulent, your account is $5,000.00 in the negative, and you are the one responsible for paying the bank.

Sadly hundreds of scam artist have been successful are cheating the unemployed out of thousands of dollars they did not have to begin with. In conclusion here is a list of precautions to beware of from the Better Business Bereau:

Exercise caution. When using social networking sites and online employment sites, be sure to check the Web site of the company posting the advertisement. Many scams use names that are similar to reputable companies to trick job seekers.

Start with trust. Check the BBB Reliability Report™ of a company at www.bbb.org to see if it has been associated with a prior employment scam.

Never pay upfront fees. No legitimate job offer will require out of pocket expenses from a potential employee for background checks, credit reports or administrative fees before an interview. Additionally, job seekers should never provide bank account information for direct deposit setup until they have officially been hired.

Be careful of the “perfect offer.” Job seekers should be cautious of any posting advertising extremely high pay for short hours or minimal required experience. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

A Tier Five has not been passed. Tier 1- 4 will expire on November 30th,2010. As the deadlines are vastly approaching, many worry that there will be no further Extensions for the unemployed. This is a very hard time for America's Unemployed. The only thing that can be done at this point is to contact the White house line, Rep. McDermott, Rep. Pelosi, Senator Harry Reid, Senator Schumer, Senator Shaheen, etc (and your local legislators) and demand that they add a Tier V now! We need to put forth a great effort so that the voice of America's Unemployed will be heard.

The US is stuck in an economic quagmire featuring near ten percent unemployment. As politicians argue about the solution -- massive tax cuts or increases in Federal spending -- what's missing is a succinct analysis of the problem. Why has America lost 8 million jobs?
The roots of the jobs crisis stretch back to the Ronald Reagan presidency when conservative economic ideology began to dominate American political discourse. At the forefront of this philosophy were three malignant notions: helping the rich get richer will inevitably help everyone else, "a rising tide lifts all boats;" markets are inherently self correcting and therefore there's no need for government regulation; and the US does not need an economic strategy because that's a natural consequence of the free market.
What followed was a thirty-year period where America's working families were abandoned in favor of the rich. Inequality rose as middle class income and wealth declined. As corporate power increased, unions were systematically undermined. As CEO salaries soared, fewer families earned living wages.
Conservative ideology produced a warped and brittle US economy, where more than two-thirds of our GDP was housing related: building, buying, and furnishing new homes or borrowing against existing homes in order to maintain a decent standard of living. When the credit bubble burst, the debt-based consumption model failed, taking down first the housing sector and then the entire economy, resulting in catastrophic job losses.
In order to be sustainable, the US economy has to generate 125,000 jobs each month. (To bring unemployment down to acceptable levels -- below 7 percent -- the US economy needs to generate 300,000 jobs each month for the next three years.) For this to happen, there have to be three positive conditions.
First, consumers have to be willing to spend money. Regardless of the conservative ideology, the US economy depends upon steady consumption by working Americans. The Reagan Republican theory incorrectly assumes that rich folks buying yachts and vacation homes catalyzes the consumer economy. Nonetheless, wealthy Americans have as much income as they have ever had but their purchases of Ferraris or diamonds has not been sufficient to boost the economy. Average Americans aren't consuming because they either don't have the money or are saving it because they are fearful.
Second, businesses have to be willing to hire. At the moment, many businesses -- outside of construction and commercial real estate -- have the funds available to hire but they either aren't hiring or are filling what should be full-time permanent positions with part-time temporary workers.
Third, the new jobs have to be decent jobs paying a living wage. Unfortunately, the Associated Press reported that of the 630,000 jobs created in 2010, 81 percent are low-paying service-sector positions. That's the sad backdrop to terrible unemployment data.
Since the Reagan presidency the number of decent jobs has steadily eroded. When a worker retires from a GM assembly line, and a job that pays good wages, he isn't replaced by his son or daughter; they go to work at McDonalds. There was an under-acknowledged "structural adjustment" that meant the US consumer economy could not function unless average Americans went deeply in debt: borrowed up to the limit on their credit cards or used up their home equity.
It's necessary to understand what went wrong with the US economy because fundamental changes are required to deal with the jobs crisis. So far the political rhetoric has been underwhelming. Republicans blame unemployment on the policies of the Obama Administration and argue the solution is to cut taxes, particularly for the wealthy. Democrats blame unemployment on the policies of the Bush Administration and argue the solution is to increase Federal spending. The New York Times correctly condemned both approaches noting that Republican policies produced the current economic decline and the "cut taxes to solve all problems" clearly does not work. The Times also described the Democratic approach as timid, failing to attack the systemic nature of the problem.
America has economic cancer and radical surgery is required. First, there has to be a massive redistribution of income by increasing taxes on both the wealthy and financial institutions (particularly those that were at the heart of 2008's economic meltdown).
Second, there has to be a second stimulus package that not only supports America's teachers and public safety workers but also strengthens the US infrastructure, in general. It's not logical to propose that American businesses provide better jobs without also ensuring that our schools produce workers who can meet employers' needs.
Third, the Federal government has to be involved in economic policy. The last thirty years has demonstrated that it's insane to assume the free market will do this. What we've learned is that the market follows the path of least resistance and dictates economic policy solely based on greed. Creating wealth for a handful of CEOs isn't consistent with the national interest. What are needed now are economic policies that produce decent jobs for average Americans.
The Federal government has to intervene and create the jobs that the greedy, shortsighted private sector hasn't provided.

Unemployment Extension 2010: Anger At Slowness Of Gov Checks

On July 22nd, President Barack Obama signed legislation affecting over 2 million unemployed Americans. Although not providing the additional $25 for COBRA, the legislation extended unemployment benefits through November and provided for benefits to be paid retroactively. Despite passing into law two weeks ago, many unemployed Americans who qualify for this extension has not received their checks and are angry

What Caused The Problem

Many workers who have found themselves unemployed through no fault of their own qualify have exhausted their unemployment benefits. Regular unemployment benefits last for 26 weeks. Benefits are then extended in Tiers as needed. Tier 1 lasts up to 20 weeks. Tier 2 lasts up to 14 weeks. Benefits at tier 3 last 13 weeks provided the state has an unemployment rate of at least 6%. Benefits for Tier 4 last 6 weeks in states with at least 8.5% unemployment rate.
Many Americans who used up their benefits at all tier levels have still found themselves without work. Despite the approval of tier 4 many unemployed Americans are still waiting for their checks. The reasons for this vary from state to state.

What Can Be Done

There is a possibility that a new tier 5 level of benefits will be approved. Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow has introduced the Americans Want to Work Act. The bill was cosponsored by nine other democratic senators. Unemployed Americans in states with an unemployment rate of at least 7.5% would qualify. This bill takes aim at a group of Americans called the 99ers who have exhausted all benefits and are still unemployed. In the meantime, states are working overtime to process claims and send out benefit checks.

In America's Society it is extremely common for people to be defined by the jobs they have.When getting to know someone, inquiring what they do for a living is first priority. So after you lose a job, it is not eccentric to feel embarrassed, worthless, or a decline in your over all self confidence.

It is okay! Almost everyone goes through those emotions. You don't want to stay in this place of emotional anguish to long. You need to be in the right state of mind mentally if you plan on getting back to work soon.

You must keep a positive state of mind to make it through your unemployment. Once you have stopped linking your unemployment to your self worth you can start mapping out your destiny. Make a list of all your professional capabilities. Be proud of yourself for all the things you have accomplished and take a moment to let it sink in.

A job is just a place where you put yours skills to work. Whether you have a job or not, you skills still belongs to you. Your job does not define you. Your abilities define you. One of the latest problems to effect the unemployed community is Companies refusing to hire individuals who are currently out of work. Many companies are only willing to employ people who are currently working for another company. This Controversial issue has been discussed on CNN and other websites like the huffinton Post. What is the intent behind the preference to exclude the unemployed community? One recruiter boldly posted an add on a job board stating ," The Unemployed Will Not Be Considered. When confronted by the huffington Post, The Recruiter said,"It's our preference that they currently be employed,We typically go after people that are happy where they are and then tell them about the opportunities here. We do get a lot of applications blindly from people who are currently unemployed -- with the economy being what it is, we've had a lot of people contact us that don't have the skill sets we want, so we try to minimize the amount of time we spent on that and try to rifle-shoot the folks we're interested in."

With our current economic situation, this will definitely prolong the unemployment crisis. When you look further into the issue, one might even say it's a conspiracy as many companies are getting millions of dollars in tax breaks to hire new employees. However they choose to recycle the workforce instead of growing it to reduce our nations unemployment rate. The government should make it a requirement for these companies to hire unemployed workers before qualifying for these million dollar tax breaks. America, if this isn't a wake up call for us to be self employed or to start our own business, I don't know what is. I also feel companies like Sony Ericsson should be boycotted due to there efforts of further destruction to the unemployed community. People do not ask to be laid off nor do they deserve it. Unemployment is not a disease, it's a circumstance. I truly believe that these companies are the ones losing out on people who would work extremely hard because they know what it feels like to be without work. They would appreciate a job more than a individual who has never faced unemployment.

Bad Friends, (The Company You Keep)

A bad friend can be like a cigarette something to do but very bad for your health. Join me in an overview of how bad friends can drain the life out of you and interrupt your dreams and goals. Many of you who have reached a certain maturity in life already know this valuable lesson. Friends are the most influential people in our lives other than our parents. Good Friends will be a shoulder to cry on, give you unbiased constructive criticism, and have a genuine concern about your life and well being. I know plenty of people with bad friends in their lives and they have no clue. If you have never evaluated your friendships or close relationships. Here is your opportunity to do so. You may especially want to do this if you are in your time of hardships.

1.You Have to fit in: You feel insecure about being yourself around your friends so you dress, behave or talk like them. You may find that you have to lose yourself and be another character around them. You may also find yourself engaging in negative activities like gossiping about people, instigating situations, or behaving irresponsibly overall.

2. Misery loves company: The people that are miserable and can only relate to you if your are as equally miserable about your life as they are. The friend that is envious because you may be doing better in a particular areas of your life then them. Ever wonder why nobody is has happy for you as you are for yourself? Chances are you have a envious miserable friend.

3. A One-way friendship: ah behold the friend who is self centered and the sun rises and sets and themselves. This kind of friendship is all about them. They will only want to talk about themselves. Have you ever noticed that a friend will call you just to talk about themselves, never once asking how your day was or what is new with you? Have you always been a shoulder for them to cry on but could never count on them in your time of need? If they do something that seems thoughtful, nine times out of ten it really benefits them. For example, They might pay your way only because they need companionship our because there other friends were not available. This friend show interest in matters that either benefit or concern themselves.You are the last option as there boyfriend/girlfriend or best-friend is not available. Surprisingly they will get very envious when you chose to hangout with other friends, feeling like they have the first rights to your friendship.

4. Beware of users: They only call you when they want a favor or to borrow money. They will not pay you back. They will expect you to pay for dinner, movies, and even gifts. They will play the victim role to get what they want. They will never offer to pay for anything. God forbid you co-sign on a car or get an apt with them. These friends will use you and leave you high and dry. This friend has the same characteristics as the one way friend. Beware.

5.Self-Righteous: This friend smiles in your face and slanders you name when you are not around. They will often criticize you to hurt your feelings. They do this to make themselves feel like the superior. Never listens to your opinion because they are the smarter one. They will feed off people with low self -esteem. Often a good looking guy/girl will hang out with less attractive group of people because they have the need to have all the attention.They will often play the leadership role in a friendship and desperately needs the friend to follow or hang on to there every word. This friend will want to steal your boyfriend/girlfriend because they feel they are better looking therefore they deserve them more then you. Beware of this friend with back stabbing tendencies.

In conclusion, there are tons of other traits to look out for. Those would take a year and a day to discuss, But to leave you with one last thought bad friends are dream killers. They will often put down your ideals and dreams with negative criticism. In your time of need, Good Friends will be a blessing, uplifting, and selfless. Courage Under Fire!

I read an article about a 44 year old gentleman named Marc Heffner. He has been unemployed since October, 2008 and has since ran out his unemployment benefits. After loosing his job as a six figure sales man, he had no choice but to sell his house for less than market value, his marriage of 20 years fell apart, and he is now living with his mother. As if he doesn't have enough to worry about, he is also diabetic and pays $430.00 a month for the insurance he must have. His daughter's Car broke down and he will dig in to his 401k plan to to pay for her transmission to get fixed. Here is a man that has owned his own business, made six figures as a salesman and when you ask him if he is okay, he replies "Doesn't do any good to keep grinding on it. "God will get me a job when he gets me a job." He keeps a positive attitude and still supports his kids with their needs.

I posted this article to let you know that during these trying times, all you can do is be strong! I know it seems like one bad thing happens, then here comes another one, and another one. Taking Credit for the Work You Gave and Stealing Your Raise.

I remember when I started working from my previous employer like it was yesterday. I started at the bottom of the chain and worked my way to the top. I used my creativity to increase productivity, create new training modules for the new employees and also covered for my slacking boss. While I was recognized for my hard work, my most creative and innovative ideals were stolen and I did not receive credit for them. This is very common in the corporate world. Often a business consultant will come in to help a company get organized and perhaps even downside. They often pick the brains of the employees for ideals or feedback and get paid good money to do. This also happen to one of my colleagues. She created a new plan to change the way a particular process worked. The consultant took the plan and wrote her name on it as if she had created it. The disappointment from my colleagues was so intense that she resigned. This is one of the many things that has inspired me to use my abilities to work for myself. When you are creative and someone try to take that away from you, you realize that your hourly pay isn't quite worth it! This might be a good time to start your own business or go back to school there are plenty of tax benefits offered to business owners, especially during their first year of business, where it is not uncommon to report a loss in revenues. We all have talents, find your niche, offer your severs for free to gain experience and confidence. Many businesses were born out of job loss. This might be your time.

Some states offer Self-Employment Assistance for dislocated workers and offers the opportunity for early re-employment. The program is designed to encourage and enable unemployed workers to create their own jobs by starting their own small businesses. Under these programs, States may pay a self-employed allowance, instead of regular unemployment insurance benefits, to help unemployed workers while they are establishing businesses and becoming self-employed. Participants receive weekly allowances while they are getting their businesses off the ground.

Sometimes I am so exhausted from helping people with their problems. I have family and friends that literally just suck the life out of me. Everyone wants or needs something. Don't get me wrong I love to give good advice and counsel people. I believe it's a gift that God has blessed me with. I deal with people from all walks, not just the unemployed community. I can give you all the advice in the world and help you solve a few problems but if you don't change the way you think, you will never tap into your inner strength or survival that God has given all of us to make it through those trails and hardships. You will always need someone to help you make it through.
So I'm asking everyone to sit and meditate on your life. Sometimes you need help from others but you should never depend on help from others all the time. I take on so many burdens that when situations arise in my own life, I have to tell my issues to "go away right now I don't have time for you". I have this website, My own business, and a few other projects. Can you imagine how much time I need to do these things? If I decided to sleep late, I have to turn my phone on silent. I feel so guilty for trying to put myself first sometimes. It's really not in my nature to be selfish. Can anybody relate?
