Incredible Crash in the British GT Oulton Park

The British GT4 Championship driver Hunter Abbott not only emerged alive from the tangled wreckage after crashing at 100mph but did not even break a single bone. 10 minutes into the first race of the season when he left the track at 100 miles per hour trying to negotiate The Cascades, an S-bend on the Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire.

The crash happened in dry conditions, shortly after the start of the hour-long race, the first of the British GT Championship season.

His Ginetta G50 smashed through a crash barrier, went airborne, thudded into the ground, rolled about three times, landed on its roof and burst into flames. Then the driver walked out alive and well enough to assist the stewards in putting out the flames around his racing suit.

The race was temporarily halted as Abbott, in his mid-twenties, was helped into an ambulance. His car, thought to be brand new and worth more than £50,000, was destroyed.

Chimp Mom For Two White Tiger Cubs

When two white tiger cubs were born during a hurricane they had to be separated from their mother after their sanctuary flooded.
However they have since found an unlikely surrogate mother in chimpanzee Anjana, who has taken on the role of caring for the cubs.
These adorable images will melt even the most cynical of hearts.

The two-year-old chimp has been helping keeper China York care for the 21-day-old cubs at The Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species (TIGERS) in South Carolina.

'Mitra and Shiva, were born during Hurricane Hannah,' said Dr Bhagavan, founder of TIGERS. "During that time everything flooded in the sanctuary and they had to be moved into the house as their mother became stressed.

'It was important for their safety that they were separated.'

Placed into the care of infant animal care giver China and her chimpanzee companion, Anjna, the cubs have become almost inseparable from their new motherly figures.

This has also resulted in Anjana copying China's caring behaviour.

'She has raised leopards, lions, orangutans,' said Dr Bhagavan. 'Monkey see as monkey do, and she has taken on this copycat personality and helps China raise the animals.

'She has just finished raising four lions and they were inseparable. She is a great assistant.'

The Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species is a wildlife education organisation, dedicated to promoting global conservation with informative, educational and entertaining interactive programs.

While there's certainly no shortage of folks working on sending robots to Mars, there's also thankfully a few researchers focusing on making the trip a bit more bearable (and survivable) for us humans, and a group from a consortium of different institutions now say they've made some real progress on that front. Their idea is to use a portable "mini-magnetosphere," which would protect a spacecraft from harmful solar storms and cosmic rays in much the same way the Earth's magnetosphere naturally protects the planet. That is actually an idea that has been around for decades, and was shown last year to be at least theoretically possible, but it has only now been taken beyond the realm of computer simulations. That was apparently possible thanks to the use of an unspecified "apparatus originally built to work on fusion," which allowed researchers to recreate "a tiny piece of the Solar Wind" and confirm that a small "hole" in the wind would indeed be all that would d be necessary to keep astronauts safe. Of course, the leap from the lab to an actual spacecraft is another matter entirely, but the researchers seem to think that there's quite a bit of promise in the idea.

the San Alfonso del Mar resort at Algarrobo, on Chile's southern coast, since it opened last month.
It is more than 1,000 yards long, covers 20 acres, had a 115ft deep end and holds 66 million gallons of water.

Yesterday the Guinness Book of Records named the vast pool beside the sea in Chile as the biggest in the world.

This one took five years to build, cost nearly £ 1billion and the annual maintenance bill will be £ 2million.

The man-made saltwater lagoon has been attracting huge crowds to the San Alfonso del Mar resort at Algarrobo, on Chile 's southern coast, since it opened last month.

Its turquoise waters are so crystal clear that you can see the bottom even in the deep end.

It dwarfs the world's second biggest pool, the Orthlieb - nicknamed the Big Splash - in Morocco , which is a mere 150 yards long and 100 yards wide. An Olympicsize pool measures some 50 yards by 25 yards.

This dinosaur pool uses a computer- controlled suction and filtration system to keep fresh seawater in permanent circulation, drawing it in from the ocean at one end and pumping it out at the other.

The sun warms the water to 26 degree Centigrade, nine degrees warmer than the adjoining sea.

Chilean biochemist Fernando Fischmann, whose Crystal Lagoons Corporation designed the pool, said advanced engineering meant his company could build 'an impressive artificial paradise' even in inhospitable areas.

As long as we have access to unlimited seawater, we can make it work, and it causes no damage to the ocean.'

Do you know which is the most sure-fire place to have uninterrupted sex? Well, you might say personal bedroom, a hotel or an abandoned beach. But an unfortunate couple has been caught red-handed having sexual intercourse in a mosque in Gilgil near Nairobi and that too in the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Do I need to tell the consequence? Well, Peter Kimani and Jennifer Wairimu have been found guilty by the court and sentenced to imprisonment for 18 months. And you know what! The couple is not Muslim.

The couple beseeched for mercy by saying that they did it unknowingly as they were drunk. But the judge said that “Having sex in a mosque is a most abominable thing to religion and only a custodial sentence can add justice to this”.

You can’t help but laugh after reading this story. The Police authorities in Berlin wouldn’t have thought that one day they will be handed an atypical “wanted” poster depicting enlarged naked breasts.

Well, the story goes like this. A German plastic surgeon who has been cheated out of payments by a number of women, has given the photos of their engorged breasts to the police. He thinks that the pictures may help the police to trace out those defaulter women.
He said that a lady named Tanja went outside after her $10,000 breast enlargement surgery and never came back. The cautious fellow now takes the amount in advance.

If you think that this man in the picture has a pot belly due to all that junk what he ate then you are mistaken. Sanju Bhagat, a 36 year old farmer's stomach was so swollen at one point that it seemed he was pregnant . He felt self-conscious and embarrassed his entire life since he was teased of being pregnant. But his swollen tummy resulted into severe pain one fine night of June 1999 and he was rushed to the hospital. And what doctors found was not less than a shock to him as well all those who witnessed the operation.

Doctors thought that Bhagat had a large tumor inside his stomach but were amazed when they found lots of bones, limbs, part of genitalia, some part of hair, jaws etc. This was just not what they were expecting. Inside his stomach was a half-formed creature which had developed feet and hands and had long fingernails.

It was then the doctors realized that creature found in Bhagat's stomach was no one but his own twin. He had one of the world's most bizarre medical conditions- fetus in fetu. This abnormality is extremely rare and occurs when a fetus gets trapped in its own twin and survives as a parasite and leaches its twin's blood supply.

As for now Bhagat is very relieved after the operation and is happy that he would be able to lead a normal life without those nasty comments. And doctors still wonder about this medical miracle.

ABSTRACT

Fetus in fetu is a rare condition in which a fetiform calcified mass often is present in the abdomen of its host, a newborn or an infant. We report on a case of a 19-month-old girl whose plain abdominal radiograph, ultrasonography, and computed tomography scan revealed a mass in which the contents favor a fetus in fetu rather than a teratoma. The noncalcified vertebral column invisible on the radiographs was identified by the pathologist; therefore, the nonvisualization of the vertebral axis on radiography or on computed tomography scan does not exclude the diagnosis of fetus in fetu.

The term fetus in fetu is used to point out an unequal division of totipotential cells of a blastocyst where the result is the inclusion of a small cellular mass in the more mature embryo. This is a form of monozygotic diamniotic twin pregnancy where the parasitic twin installs and grows in the body of its partner.1 This is a rare malformation that has some similarities with the retroperitoneal teratoma, but it is different from the latter by its fetiform aspect and the metameric segmentation of its spinal axis. The presence of a capsule covering this formation and a vascular pedicle is frequently encountered.2

In reality, one may find cases whose vertebral column is insufficiently calcified and therefore invisible on the plain radiograph. It may also be nonexistent but, because of the organogenetic differentiation, one may link this fetiform mass to the diagnosis of fetus in fetu.

CASE REPORT

A 19-month-old girl was hospitalized because of an abdominal mass of some months' duration. She was the only child in her family where there was neither twin pregnancy nor fetal malformation. Her body weight was 10 kg. Except for the presence of a mass in the upper right abdomen, the clinical examination and laboratory findings were normal. The plain film of the abdomen showed left-sided calcifications adjacent to the spine at the fourth and fifth lumbar vertebrae and the first sacral vertebra (Fig 1). These calcifications had the appearance of limb bones rather than vertebral bodies. Abdominal ultrasonography showed a hypoechoic mass with hyperechoic structures inside that extended from the lower border of the liver to the hypogastric region. An abdominal computed tomography (CT) scan (Figs 2, 3, and 4) showed a thick-walled mass that measured approximately 90 × 65 mm including solid, cystic, and calcified components. The calcifications resembled cranial bones and long bones, but a vertebral axis was not visualized. The mass was displacing the transverse colon downward and the small bowel downward and posteriorly.

Based on these imaging findings, a diagnosis of fetus in fetu was thus made preoperatively.

The surgeon discovered a well-encapsulated retroperitoneal mass behind the transverse mesocolon. This mass had a pedicle that was connected to the superior mesenteric artery. Excision of the capsule revealed a yellowish fluid and an incompletely developed fetus covered by vernix caseosa.

The postoperative course was uneventful and the patient was discharged on the eighth postoperative day.

A radiograph of the specimen showed cranial bones and long bones but no vertebral column. On the macroscopic pathologic examination, the mass measured 20 × 8 × 5 cm and was composed of a head with hair, a trunk, and rudimentary limbs corresponding to an incompletely developed fetus. A soft vertebral axis was found behind the intestinal loops, colon, and liver. (Figs 5 and 6). Microscopically, there were hepatic cells, biliary tract cells, splenic tissue, and pulmonary tissue. Most of these cells were in blastic stage and not well-differentiated. The bony tissue was essentially composed of osteoblasts with little bone marrow. The nervous tissue was mostly formed by glial cells and not well-differentiated neurons.

The Glass Bridge Construction of the Skywalk began March of 2004 and is estimated

What do u think about this guy wearing a helmet and sitting before a computer, can u guess about this picture....This is a mental type writer, no need to use ur hands, just have to think what u want to do, by sitting before the computer, it will be automatically done by this mental type writer, so do u need keyboard or mouse anymore,,
yesterday in Germany IT exhibition ( Hanover) they have exhibited this one.

A computer controlled by the power of thought alone has been demonstrated at a major trade fair in Germany.
The device could provide a way for paralysed patients to operate computers, or for amputees to operate electronically controlled artificial limbs. But it also has non-medical applications, such as in the computer games and entertainment industries.
The Berlin Brain-Computer Interface (BBCI) – dubbed the "mental typewriter" – was created by researchers from the Fraunhofer Institute in Berlin and Charité, the medical school of Berlin Humboldt University in Germany. It was shown off at the CeBit electronics fair in Hanover, Germany.
The machine makes it possible to type messages onto a computer screen by mentally controlling the movement of a cursor. A user must wear a cap containing electrodes that measure electrical activity inside the brain, known as an electroencephalogram (EEG) signal, and imagine moving their left or right arm in order to manoeuvre the cursor around.
"It's a very strange sensation," says Gabriel Curio at Charité. "And you can understand from the crowds watching that the potential is huge."
Learning algorithms
Curio says users can operate the device just 20 minutes after going through 150 cursor moves in their minds. This is because the device rapidly learns to recognise activity in the area of a person's motor cortex, the area of the brain associated with movement. "The trick is the machine-learning algorithms developed at the Fraunhofer Institute," Curio says.
John Chapin, an expert in using implanted electrodes to control computers, agrees EEG sensing technology is advancing rapidly. "There's been a lot of progress on the non-invasive side in recent years," he told New Scientist.
The German researchers hope to develop a commercial version of the device as an aid for paralysed patients and amputees.
Chapin adds that brain-computer interfaces could have a range of uses beyond the medical. "Signals from the brain give you a fraction of a second advantage," he says. The device could make a novel game controller and be used in other ways. The researchers have even begun testing the machine as a driving aid, as it can sense a sudden reaction and control a vehicle's brakes before even the driver can.
The next stage is to develop a cap that does not have to be attached directly to the scalp. This should make the device easier to use and cause less skin irritation for the wearer.

'F1' is not only just 'F1'

à F1 car is made up of 80,000 components, if it were assembled 99.9% correctly, it would still start the race with 80 things wrong!

à When an F1 driver hits the brakes on his car he experiences retardation or deceleration comparable to a regular car driving through a BRICK wall at 300kmph!!!

BREAKING THE SOUND BARRIER

Don't know how many of you have seen photos of aircraft "breaking the sound barrier" but it is a strange phenomenon, and interesting how it clings to the aircraft until you can increase your speed to go thru that zone. These pictures do a good job of showing how the "barrier" flows around the plane, although it does not show how the front of the aircraft, typically the nose, or on some fighters, the engine nacelle, hits the front of the "barrier", then slowly leaves the aircraft, and when it does, there is a large "boom", known as "breaking the sound barrier", which some of you have obviously heard.
The Boom happens because the plane catches up to and passes the sound it already has produced. At that point there is a collision between the vibrating air (sound) it has produced and the current sound it is making. Faster than this point, the plane arrives to strike before the warning of it's sound does.
