Francesco De Prezzo’s work explores experiential concepts in artistic production, characterized by an approach that subverts the artwork, ranging from its destruction to cancellation or replacement.

This theme is evident in the current exhibit, where the artist uses an artificial intelligence (AI) model, a modified version of GPT-4, from OpenAi.

This model has been trained to recognize, purchase, and ship to the gallery items available on Amazon that are aesthetically based on the artist’s portfolio, providing visual continuity with their previous body of work. The items are delivered to the exhibition space and slowly become part the exhibit. They are later returned using an automated return system managed by the algorithm within a certain period.

This approach represents De Prezzo’s exploration of the ephemeral nature and variability of the exhibition. De Prezzo challenges traditional conventions about artistic ownership, and subverts sculpture as a theme. Rooted in a collective visual logic—the one in the algorithm—this approach to sculpture redefines the essence of the setup.

The male you see above wasn’t around on our first attempt, just some females and juvies. This morning, in the killer saturated light we had two men for about twenty-five minutes. It was just wonderful! I used all my power to get the shot. If it wasn’t for its tail, it would be the smallest hummingbird on the planet. But it has a tail, so it’s the second smallest. It’s the biggest in my mind right now and it only took 4 days!

Disclosure: I may receive a small commission if you click a link in this post and purchase something that I recommend. Purchasing via an affiliate link doesn’t cost you any extra, and I only recommend products and services I trust. All opinions expressed are mine. I appreciate your support!

Photo sharing is more than just sending images to third-parties. It involves safeguarding your business and building trust with potential clients.

A secure system can deter unauthorized access to images by clients who haven’t paid and instill confidence in leads regarding the security of their images should they engage your services.

Secure Photo Sharing

This guide gives a comprehensive overview on the options available in photo-sharing software and shows how to use them for business growth. It’s crucial to assess your current needs and prioritize features that offer future scalability. Let’s begin with client delivery.

No matter what you specialize in Wedding photographyThere are instances where people may try to steal your images, whether it’s for corporate event coverage or product photography. It is important to protect your intellectual property.

Automatic Watermarking

Automatic watermarking is a great way to protect your deliverables. This step is essential for embedding identifying logos or marks onto your images. It serves as a stamp of ownership that is unmistakable and discourages unauthorized use.

When choosing a photo-sharing platform, it’s crucial to ensure that automatic watermarking functionality is available, providing an added layer of security for images accessed by third parties within your galleries.

However, it’s important to recognize that merely placing a logo on your images may not suffice in terms of protection, as logos can be easily removed or altered. In such cases it becomes essential to investigate alternative protective measures.

One such measure is Right-click prevention, which prevents users from right-clicking on images to easily download them. By implementing these proactive measures, you can enhance the security and protection of your digital assets.

Disable right-click

It is important to disable the right-click function on your client galleries in order to prevent unauthorized downloads. Users will often try to bypass protections simply by right-clicking an image and selecting “save image as,”You can allow them to download your work for free.

This is a common practice among people who want to enlarge photos or remove watermarks.

By implementing right-click prevention measures, you’re adding an extra layer of security that dissuades users from easily accessing and downloading your images without permission. This protective measure is embedded deep in the code of your website, making it harder for tech-savvy users.

It’s important to acknowledge that determined individuals may still attempt to access your images through alternative means, such as by examining the page’s source code or using image extractors.

These methods include examining the HTML code in order to identify image names, and searching for watermarks within image URLs. There are several additional strategies to minimize the risk of unauthorized usage and distribution.

Protected files with password

Password-protected digital files are an important layer of protection for your digital assets. Ask your photo-sharing service if they offer features like password-protected albums or encrypted links.

These features ensure that only clients with a specific access code can view or download sensitive content.

Portraiture is no exception. While password protection is usually associated with custom business or fine art shoots, it’s importance extends to other photography genres.

In lucrative markets like boudoir photography, where confidentiality is paramount, a secure photo-sharing system serves as a testament to your commitment to protecting your clients’ intimate images. This not just distinguishes you among competitors but also cultivates confidence among your clientele.

Password protection is important for personal photography and family photos, as well as commercial photography. Parents, in particular, prioritize the safeguarding of their children’s images, emphasizing the need for stringent security measures to prevent unauthorized use or distribution.

Accessibility of your work, in addition to security features is essential for maintaining client satisfaction. It’s imperative to ensure that your chosen photo-sharing service offers user-friendly functionalities, such as mobile apps for on-site display and portals for convenient access to files.

Ensure that you are prepared for any contingencies. For example, if your system locks out while on the road or when editing on location, ensure that you have taken adequate measures to prevent disruptions in workflow. You can protect your digital assets and maintain seamless client interactions by prioritizing security and accessibility.

Easy of access

When considering the ease of access for your photo galleries, it’s crucial to go beyond just ensuring they’re accessible and take into account the speed at which clients can retrieve their images. Slow loading times may cause frustration and dissatisfaction. This can potentially damage your professional reputation.

To avoid such issues, it’s essential to conduct thorough testing across various connection types, including mobile data plans. This ensures that regardless of your client’s location or the quality of their internet connection, they can effortlessly access their galleries without any hindrance.

Furthermore, it’s important to recognize that photo sharing transcends simply delivering images—it’s about safeguarding your business interests as well. By prioritizing the highest standards of privacy and security available, you not only protect your clients’ images but also convey a strong commitment to their well-being and satisfaction.

These proactive measures serve not only as a deterrent to theft but also significantly contribute to enhancing trust and loyalty of clients. Ultimately, by prioritizing security and accessibility, you’re not just delivering a service—you’re building long-term relationships and transforming potential leads into loyal, paying clients.

Conclusion

Last Tuesday Hong KongArticle 23 is the name of the new national security legislation passed by lawmakers in a unanimous vote. It was passed despite the intense protests at home, the pandemic and the travel restrictions that followed. The new law’s provisions, which critics have labeled as “incredibly vague,”Anyone found to be in possession of a firearm can be detained and punished by the authorities “intent”To endanger the national security is punishable by a maximum of life in prison.

Nonetheless, ahead of the opening of Art Basel Hong Kong this coming week, the city’s art market and its increasingly mature web of art infrastructure seem undeterred thus far, with a renewed frenetic pace of expansions, programming, and international engagement, since last year, even amid Signs of China’s economic slowdown.

“Despite reports of China’s economic woes, the art market in Hong Kong appears resilient and even thriving,”ABHK Director Angelle Siyang Le will be helming this year’s fair in her first edition. ARTnews. “Hong Kong as a city has a long-established and reliable infrastructure, a strategic location in the relative center of Asia, tax-free benefits, and still holds its status as the leading international arts hub in the region.”

For the very first time in four years, Art Basel Hong Kong, which runs from March 26–30, is back to its pre-pandemic size, with 243 galleries from 40 countries, increasing the exhibitor count by 37 percent compared to last year. Marian Goodman, Sean Kelly and other leading galleries who exhibited in 2019, will not be returning to this edition. The fair, however, has welcomed 25 first-time exhibitors, including those from Denmark, Ghana New Zealand Portugal and Saudi Arabia.

The mega art fair also seems to be banking on the city’s positioning as the gateway to mainland China, with an increase in off-site programming to include conversations in Shanghai and Guangzhou.

“These discussions cover topics such as the digital art market in China, the evolution of the Greater Bay Area’s arts ecosystem, and efforts to create alternative art sites and structures in Hong Kong,” Siyang-Le said. “We hope these conversations continue to cement Art Basel Hong Kong as a leader in the space, further deepening the show’s strong dialogue with its host city and region, as is seen across all Art Basel shows.”

Other key art industry players and institutions are also gearing up for this year’s Hong Kong Art Week.

West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) is hosting the first-ever Hong Kong International Cultural Summit, from March 24–26. Titled “Connecting Culture, Bridging Times,” the Summit aims to be the largest international cultural conference staged in Hong Kong in recent years, supporting the city’s development into “the East-meets-West center for international cultural exchange,” according to WKCDA’s chief executive Betty Fung.

In an email interview ARTnewsFung connected to “flourishing art scene”Hong Kong with the “successive openings of the flagship arts and cultural facilities in the past years, particularly the two world-class museums, M+ and Hong Kong Palace Museum, in WKCD in 2021 and 2022, respectively, as well as other cultural institutions such as Tai Kwun and the renovated Hong Kong Museum of Art.”

According to WKCDA, the Artist Square Towers will have nearly 700,000 sq. ft. of office, retail, dining and entertainment space when it is completed in 2026. However, Fung You can tell them by clicking on the linkLocal media outlets reported earlier this year that WKCDA’s funding would run out in March next year if the Government did not approve its new financial plan.

Hong Kong’s influential real estate conglomerates have also amped up their presence in the art scene. Henderson Land Development Company Limited will present an exhibition featuring diverse regional artists called “Collected Light: From Legacy to Future”Vera Lam is the curator of this show. She is the former curator of M+ and the director at the Hong Kong nonprofit arts organisation HART. The show is inspired by the company’s latest development, the Henderson, that is designed by Zara Hadid Architects and slated to open later this year. The company has also commissioned two local artists, Elaine Chiu & Zoie Lau, to create a 721 foot-long mural entitled, Realising Central Cityscapes, at the New Central Harbourfront Site 3 Project.

Hong Kong, despite its dire state, has seen a concerted increase in the auction and gallery sectors over the last few years.

In 2021, Christie’s announced plans to take over four floors—and 50,000 square feet—at the Henderson this fall. Phillips moved into a new, expanded building in the West Kowloon Cultural District next to M+ last year. The auction house even launched a new café this month. And, Sotheby’s will also be moving to its brand-new headquarters at the upcoming Six Pacific Place in Hong Kong, a stone’s throw away from its year-round exhibition space, both set to open later this year.

Mega gallerys were a hit in January. Hauser & Wirth moving to a new street-level, 10,000-square-foot space in Hong Kong’s central business district, down the road from their original premises on two uppers of the high-rise H-Queen’s, one of the city’s famed art gallery clusters. “It was incredible to experience the enthusiastic response to our new space in Hong Kong from the art community and beyond,” Hauser & Wirth president Marc Payot told ARTnews. “Hong Kong has an undeniable dynamism and a highly engaged and enlightened audience for art.”

Payot said the gallery’s enthusiasm was what led it to increase its presence in Hong Kong. “Hong Kong is a long-established and vibrant art and cultural hub, with undeniable advantages, from its geographical location that connects to wider Asia to the language advantage of English being widely spoken. Even during pandemic, the city didn’t stop moving forward,”He said.

In 2021 and 22 there will be a proliferation of new art spaces in Hong Kong, including Double Q Gallery, a local gallery run by Queenie Rosita law; Property Holdings Development Group, a group led by Willem Molesworth, former director of De Sarthe, and his wife Ysabelle, former managing editor at ArtAsiaPacificOdds and Ends, by Natalie Ng and Fiona Ho. Both were previously with David Zwirner and Gallery HZ.

Odds and Ends, the gallery itself, is expanding and moving into a new space this month in Sheung Wan. Its inaugural exhibit will feature women artists who have recently graduated from Baptist University Hong Kong.

“We wish to inject freshness and introduce new talents to respective markets—young Hong Kong artists who just graduated to an international crowd which flocks to the city during March,”Odds and Ends cofounder Ho spoke about the company.

Then again, the Guardian reportedThis week, there were a few artists who performed. “no longer feel safe working in Hong Kong”The city has been evacuated amid fears that the state and cultural institutions are censoring the works. Artist duo Lumlong & Kacey Wong are among them. These concerns may be heightened by the new provisions of the security law.

Even still, one of the most talked about exhibitions during last year’s edition of ABHK was “Myth Makers–Spectrosynthesis III”Sun told Sunpride Foundation that he was at Tai Kwun to promote the Sunpride Foundation and collector Patrick Sun. Sun told ARTnewsThe exhibition, which featured LGBTQ artists from Asia and the diaspora, attracted a large number of visitors. “pleasantly surprised to see such a ‘daring’ exhibition with a queer theme being presented at a major public institution here.”

He added. “I’m glad that in some small ways our exhibition seemed to have helped assure visitors that Hong Kong remains a city that celebrates diversity and equality.”

Ho agreed “The spirit and eagerness of the people here are what keep us going strong. This also contributes to the open-mindedness of Hong Kong residents, who are always excited and supportive about new ventures and ideas, making us an ideal place in Asia to have a presence.”

If you are interested in learning how to edit photos, then this is the place to go. Lightroom, you’re in the right place.

Here, I’ll talk about all the options you have for editing photos using Lightroom. I’ll run you through how to use each tool and the recommended order.

Please note that this is an Adobe Lightroom Classic step-by-step tutorial. If you’re interested in learning about Lightroom CC and the Lightroom mobile app, you can check This guide is a good place to start..

Here, I’ll show you how to edit photos in Lightroom in the Develop module. I won’t cover how to import or organize your pictures. Check out this article if you want to learn more about the process. Adobe Lightroom: An introduction.

Well, now that everything is clear – let’s get started!

How to Use the Develop Module of Lightroom

The Develop module allows you edit the photos you have uploaded to your Library. This module is divided up into three sections.

On the left side, you’ll find panels that allow you to browse your folders and collections to find the photo you want to edit. You’ll also be able to access different stages of your editing process and apply global edits.

The middle part is the canvas, where you can see the photo you’re editing. You can change the view to access other functions, such as soft proofing or before and after comparisons.

On the right side, you’ll find the panels that carry all the editing tools with various properties.

Now that you know where everything is, let’s see how to edit photos in Lightroom.

Editing in the Develop Module

It’s important to know that all your photo edits in Lightroom are non-destructive. If you access your original file on your computer, you’ll notice that nothing has changed.

To save your edited image, you’ll need to export it.

Having said that, let’s see how to edit photos in Lightroom.

What order should I edit?

To get the best results from your photo editing, you should use certain tools before others.

Adobe regularly updatess its recommended order as it releases updated tools. So, I’ll share the current order here. I’ll also explain why each tool should be used before or after others and their basic functions.

Review the Adobe websiteAfter any major update, check to see if the recommendations have changed.

1. AI Denoise

The AI Denoise tool arrived in Adobe Lightroom in early 2023 – so make sure you’re using a later version to have this tool available. Otherwise, you’ll only have the basic Denoise tool.

If you have the tool but it’s greyed out, you don’t have a supported file type. AI Denoise currently only works with Bayer and XTrans Raw files.

Adobe recommends this tool if your photo is in need of this edit. This is due to the fact that it could alter the results of other tools used before.

The AI Denoise Tool is located in the Detail Panel on the right side of the Develop Module. To launch the tool, click on the Denoise Button in the Noise Reduction section.

Denoise will be selected by default in the dialog box. The intensity can be adjusted using the slider.

To decide how much you want, you can use the preview window – press and hold to see the previous version.

You’ll see the estimated time underneath – the higher the amount, the longer the time. Once you’ve decided on the best balance between intensity and duration, uncheck Create Stack and click Enhance.

Lightroom will then create a new DNG, which will appear alongside the original in both the Filmstrip and Grid.

2. How to Use the Content Aware Remove/Heal/Spot brush

Adobe recommends using the Healing tool in Lightroom only if you need to correct a few spots – for example, removing a few people from the background or garbage on the floor.

However, if you have to fix hundreds of spots – such as the specks of dust resulting from a poorly scanned negative – Adobe advises you to use Photoshop.

Photoshop is best for portraits, too. Blemishes can be removed with easeFrom skin.

Lightroom’s Healing tools allow you to fix specific localized areas in your image. You can fix something as small as a spot on the sensor caused by dust.

Not all pictures require you to use this edit, but if you want to use it, it’s best to do so after the AI Denoise but before other edits.

You can activate the Healing tool by using its keyboard shortcut ‘Q’Find it in the Toolstrip on the right hand side of the Develop Module. This tool is identified by the bandage icon.

There are three ways to use the Healing tool: Heal, Content Aware Remove and Clone.

The Content-Aware Removing tool will fill the selected area by generating new content from a previously sampled area.

The Heal feature will match the lighting and texture of the selected area, as well as the shading, to the sampled area.

Clone will then copy the content from the sampled area, and paste it in the selected area.

All three let you change the size of the feathers, opacity, and opacity.

Visualize Spots allows you to invert a photo and see the imperfections clearly. This option is available with all three of the healing tool. Simply check the box at the bottom of the canvas.

All lenses produce some sort of aberration. The following is a list of possible distortionsThe following are some examples of how to get started: chromatic aberration.

Most manufacturers provide a correction for the lens profile. This is then included in photo-editing programs like Lightroom.

Adobe recommends that RAW images be corrected with lens profiles for optimal results. If you use another format, such as JPEG, you may get unexpected results.

If this is your case or your lens isn’t included in the available lens profiles, you can manually correct the lens distortions. You can then save these corrections to a custom lens profiles.

Open the Lens Corrections panel located on the right-hand side of the Develop Module.

On the Profile tab, select the boxes for Remove Chromatic Aberration (Remove Chromatic Aberration) and Enable Profile Corrections (Enable Profile Corrections).

You’ll see the brand and model of your lens appear in the profile section. If there’s a mistake, you can open the drop-down menu and select the correct one from the list.

Sliders are also available to adjust the amount of distortion and vignetting.

3. Using the Transform panel

Transform allows you to correct vertical or horizontal distortions. These distortions are created by perspective – not by the lens.

This is why the lens profile won’t fix them, but it’s important to apply the profile first to know which ones you still need to correct.

The adjustments made in the Transform Panel will overwrite any crops you’ve made previously. This is why it’s important to use it before you use the crop tool.

In the Transform panel, you’ll find several options called Upright modes. Auto is the most popular option. It corrects horizontal and vertical line. It will also maintain the aspect ratio.

If you only want to correct one of them, you can use Vertical for the vertical lines and Level for the horizontal ones.

The Full mode combines the other three – however, it won’t protect the crop and aspect ratio. If the correction is too extreme, you might find that the corners are empty.

You can prevent this by activating the Constrain Crop feature. However, this may crop too much of your image – so use it carefully.

You can also manually adjust the sliders to find out which option looks better. You can also manually adjust the sliders.

4. How to Crop in Lightroom

After you’ve corrected the lens and perspective distortions, you can crop your photos. You can crop a photo to change its aspect ratio or improve its composition.

You’ll find the Crop tool in the toolstrip. You can lock the aspect ratio to resize an image without changing the aspect ratio.

You can use the dropdown menu to select a preset, or drag the border to create a custom one.

It’s also possible to rotate the photo by using the Angle slider. If you want to crop your photo as you rotate it, check the Constrain Image option.

5. Profiles

Now you can begin color photo editing. Adobe Lightroom profiles can be a great place to start because they tell your program how to interpret colors in your photo.

You may be familiar with color profiles like Adobe RGB or sRGBYou can also use Lightroom profiles to control this. Lightroom profiles allow you to do this.

Learn more about Lightroom profiles can be found here.

You can ensure that all of your photos are based on the same profile by using Lightroom profiles. This will make it much easier to achieve a uniformed look.

Profiles are not presets. To find the profiles, click on the Basic Panel to the right of the Develop Module.

You can now adjust the color and brightness of the entire image. You’ll find all the tools for this part of the photo editing on the right side of the Develop Module.

First, there’s the Basic panel. You can adjust the white balance by using presets, or the Temp and Tint sliders.

Next, you’ll have the sliders to control the tone. The exposure slider will change the overall brightness of your photo. You can use the other sliders to choose which settings to adjust.

The Whites slider controls the brightest and darkest shades of the photo. The Highlights and Shadows sliders control the light areas of the photo.

You can also adjust vibrance, saturation, dehaze and more.

Next, there’s the Tone Curve. You can adjust the brightness and darkness of the image with more precision. You can read our in-depth article. Tone Curve: A guide to its use if you’re unfamiliar with it.

The Parametric curve allows you to work in zones. The Tone Curve lets you work with color channels separately.

Under the Tone curve, you’ll find the Color Mixer and the Color Grading (previously Split toning) tools. These tools let you adjust or change colors to create an artistic effect.

The Color mixer uses sliders and the Color wheel for Color Grading.

7. Lightroom: Applying local adjustments

Adobe Lightroom allows you to fine-tune your editing by using local edits. You should make these after the global ones – otherwise, they’ll be affected when you begin editing the overall image.

Use the Brush tool and the Mask tools to make your selections and to determine where you want to apply the edits. Then, you’ll have the usual editing controls from the Basic panel.

Using Lightroom Presets

Finaly, you can use presets to give all your edited photos a uniform look. This will help you to maintain consistency in the way you edit your photos.

Adobe Lightroom comes with some presets. However, you can import more – many professional photographers sell them.

It’s also possible to create your own preset. You can follow us. Lightroom presets guideLearn how to.

The presets, unlike all other editing tools are located on the left-hand side of the Develop Module.

Editing in Lightroom with Other Programs

Lightroom is a fantastic editing program but you may prefer or need to use other programs for certain tasks. That’s why you can edit in other programs from within Lightroom.

Adobe Lightroom can be used in two ways. The first one is to go to the menu Photo > Edit In.

Here, choose the software you want to use – it may be from the Adobe family, such as Photoshop, or a different developer, such as Luminar.

The second option is using plug-ins. Let’s say you’ve rated and culled your images in Lightroom, and now you want to move on to Topaz Photo AI.

Well, simply go to File > Plug-in Extras > Topaz Photo AI.

Once you’re done editing photos in a different program, apply the edits or save the file to access it in your Lightroom Library.

As I mentioned at the beginning of the article, Adobe Lightroom doesn’t apply your edits to the original image – it simply saves them as a set of instructions.

After you edit photos with Lightroom, you must export them in order to save the edited versions on your computer, share them online, or print them.

To export your photo, go to the menu File > Export. You will be presented with a dialog where you can select the file name, type, size, image quality, metadata, etc.

Adobe Lightroom offers a variety of options for exporting your images. Check out this article for a more detailed look. You can also find out more about this by clicking here. article.

What’s the best way for a beginner to learn Lightroom?

There isn’t a right or wrong way to learn how to edit photos in Lightroom. I suggest that you start with a tutorial or introduction guide. Then, start practicing with your own photos and see where you’re getting stuck or which doubts you’re having.

At this point, you can choose more specific tutorials to master Lightroom’s multiple tools. Take the approach you find most helpful. Remember that practice is the most crucial thing.

How do I edit photos like a professional?

If you want the ability to edit photos as a professional, learn the basics of your program. Once you understand how the tools function, you can control your edits.

Using one-click solutions without knowing how they work will give you inconsistent results and won’t help you develop professional skills.

What are some of the basic adjustments you can make in Lightroom

You’ll find most basic adjustments in the Basic panel, including white balance and exposure correction. It is important to apply a lens profile.

Does Lightroom automatically edit images?

You’ll find an Auto option in the Basic panel that automatically adjusts the basic settings. However, this option doesn’t consider crucial edits like fixing the lens distortion.

Presets are a great way to get creative. They apply a set of automatic adjustments that will change the final look of the photos.

What are the different Lightroom Editing Techniques?

Adobe Lightroom Classic is more powerful than Lightroom CC. Also, using the Lightroom app, you’re using a smaller screen, which makes it more difficult to make precise targeted edits.

How can I edit my photos in Lightroom without paying?

Lightroom is available in a limited version for free. Otherwise, there’s a free trial for all versions of Lightroom.

Ikelite Releases TT5 Canon TTL fiber optic transmitter and RC2 TTL receiver for DS Strobes

Ikelite’s DS-series strobes have electrical bulkheads and are designed to be wired to housings similarly fitted with an electrical bulkhead. All you need to do to get the best automatic strobe exposition is add a TTL converter between the housing(s) and the strobes. Then you can switch between TTL and manual modes on the fly. (You don’t even need a battery for the converter because it’s powered by the strobe.) What if you’d prefer a fiber optic connection between housing(s) and strobes? Ikelite now offers two new products that make this possible for Canon shooters. TT5 Canon TTL Fiber Optic TransmitterThen, there is the Receiver RC2 with TTL.

The TT5 Canon TTL Fiber Optic Transmitter replaces your electrical bulkhead or 1/2-20 accessory port plug in your Ikelite housing (50DL, 200DL or 200DLM) and allows you to use the camera’s flash menu to switch between TTL and manual strobe exposure. The device supports rear curtain sync and high frame rate burst photography when used with DS160 or DS230 series strobes. The transmitter is powered using two CR2032 batteries. The RC2 Receiver converts the electrical bulkhead of your compatible DS strobes into a fiber-optic cable.

Ikelite offers the TT5 Canon TTL Fiber Optic Transmitter at a retail price of $325. The RC2 TTL Receiver is priced at $150. Note: Ikelite says that the transmitter is not designed for use with other manufacturers’ housings. Below you will find more information about the product.

PRODUCT INFORMATION

TT5 Canon TTL Fiber Optic transmitter for DL/DLM Underwater Housings

Since the dawn of digital, Ikelite TTL algorithms for underwater strobes have been renowned for their accuracy. You can now enjoy the most reliable Canon TTL strobe with a fiber-optic connection between your Ikelite Housing and DS strobes.

This compact, individually sealed device can be used to trigger an Ikelite DS Strobe using fiber optics (requires RC2 receiver). When used with the Ikelite DS160 or DS230 series strobe, burst shooting at high frame rates is supported.

The TT5 camera supports rear curtain sync, and can switch between TTL exposure and manual strobe exposure by using the flash menu.

The transmitter is powered with two CR2032 lithium batteries, either single-use or rechargeable (not included). The Transmitter comes with a built-in power saving mode that prolongs the battery life. With average usage, you can expect to dive for at least one week. It is always recommended that you travel with an extra set of batteries.

There’s nothing like having your images displayed on a wall for everybody to see, admire, and respect. Even higher is seeing these little spherical purple stickers beneath the prints to point that the work has been offered.

For many artists, exhibiting work is a driving drive – and that’s very true of photographers who make photographs meant for partitions and gallery shows.

However placing collectively a images exhibition could be tougher than you assume. You need to take into account an array of questions, comparable to:

The place do you have to exhibit your work?

How do you submit images?

How do you value your work?

Do you buy insurance coverage?

How do you have to body your images (if in any respect)?

Exhibiting your work will also be very costly, so it’s vital to grasp the fundamental prices earlier than you’re taking the leap.

On this article, I purpose to reply all of those questions (and extra!). That method, if you happen to do determine to maneuver ahead with an exhibition, you know the way to make it as profitable as potential.

Why do a images exhibit?

If I have been to do an exhibit right this moment, I would come with this picture!

Artists have been exhibiting their work for hundreds of years, and right this moment is not any completely different – although a number of the causes for displaying your images have modified.

Earlier than the web, exhibitions have been probably the greatest methods to showcase your work, and artists used them to generate profits. They’d invite particular shoppers or benefactors to the openings, hoping they’d purchase one or a number of items.

Promoting artwork is tougher nowadays, so in case your sole cause for exhibiting is to promote your images, then you could be very disenchanted. Nevertheless, in case your aim is to place your work up on a wall to point out folks what you’re able to as an artist, then an exhibition could be very rewarding. Take it from me: Having all of your greatest work up for everybody to see can really feel like fairly an achievement.

Another excuse many artists exhibit is to place the exhibitions down on their artist’s CV. The CV (or curriculum vitae) is a listing of all of your exhibitions, in addition to your training and some different issues, just like a résumé. It’s what galleries have a look at when contemplating whether or not they’ll present your work.

If I have been to have an exhibit of solely my macro images, this picture can be an excellent alternative.

Prices and budgeting

Exhibitions are usually not low-cost! Subsequently, earlier than you determine to go all-in on an exhibit, there are numerous elements you’ll want to think about, together with:

What kind of area will you exhibit in and the way a lot will entry value?

What different bills will there be?

What number of photographs will you put together for the exhibit, and what’s going to the replica outlays value?

Ought to you may have a solo exhibition or begin with group reveals?

These are all questions it’s worthwhile to take into consideration, and that I tackle in larger element under.

Group vs solo displays

Solo reveals are implausible, they usually’re in the end what each artist needs. (Think about having a whole present devoted to simply your photographs!) However solo reveals are additionally very costly, particularly since you gained’t have anybody with whom you possibly can share the bills.

Subsequently, as an alternative of diving headfirst into solo exhibiting, most artists begin with group reveals. Then, if they’ve some success, they transfer as much as solo reveals.

Group reveals are a great way to get your ft moist and begin constructing your artist’s CV. There are a handful of various methods to get began with group reveals, however I’d encourage you to search out some associates who’re additionally excited by exhibiting, then apply collectively to galleries to see if you will get an exhibition.

Many galleries additionally maintain group reveals of their very own, they usually’ll typically promote for artists to take part – so you possibly can typically look out for these and apply!

I exhibited this framed picture in a gaggle present for road images.

The place to exhibit your images

Truthfully, you may in all probability create an infinite checklist of exhibition potentialities, however the commonest locations are galleries focusing on the kind of work you create.

Nevertheless, there are different locations, like cafes or eating places, that prefer to have exhibitions that includes completely different art work on their partitions. There are advantages and drawbacks to every of those approaches:

Exhibiting at cafes, eating places, and foyers

These locations typically will let you exhibit free of charge, they usually don’t all the time have schedules, so you possibly can generally have your work up for longer than you may in a gallery.

Cafes and eating places might not desire a fee from the sale of labor, however they could need you to deal with all of the gross sales, so that you would want to go away contact data. And so they often gained’t take any duty in your artwork items, so pay attention to that (in different phrases, loss and injury gained’t be coated).

That is one in all two photographs that I exhibited in a restaurant down close to the coast.

When exhibiting at one in all these locations, you gained’t have entry to a mailing checklist, and also you’ll need to do all of the promoting your self. Individuals usually don’t simply wander in to take a look at the work; positive, the shoppers will see your photographs, however they’re there for particular causes (e.g., to eat lunch), and shopping for photographs isn’t one in all them. Whilst you can promote items from a restaurant exhibit, your viewers isn’t there to purchase what you’re promoting, which makes one of these present a bit extra passive.

Your work will more than likely should be framed for hanging, and you’ll in all probability have to put in it your self on the exhibit area.

The opposite picture that I exhibited within the cafe by the coast!

Exhibiting at galleries

There are various various kinds of galleries, and it’s as much as you to determine which sort will work greatest in your images. Listed below are the fundamental gallery classes to remember:

Artist-run areas

The most affordable areas to make use of are usually artist-run. You pay much less to point out your work, however you’re anticipated to “sit the exhibition.” Meaning it’s a must to be there when the gallery is open to observe your work and handle any gross sales.

Attending your entire time the gallery is open could be time-consuming. Many artists will get collectively for a gaggle present, break up the prices of renting the area, and draw up a roster to take a seat the exhibition. For artists beginning out, this generally is a a lot better choice. If you wish to do a gaggle present with a break up schedule however don’t know anybody to exhibit with, attempt contacting the gallery; they could know some artists trying to share a present.

Whereas artist-run areas don’t include hefty upfront charges, you’ll must tackle a lot of the remaining bills. The price of the opening is roofed and arranged by you. You have to additionally pay for a lot of the promoting, although some galleries can have a mailing checklist so that you can use.

One in all my photographs, nonetheless packaged from when it returned from an exhibition final yr.

Staffed galleries

Staffed galleries are the subsequent degree. They value extra, however you’re relieved of the burden of getting to take a seat the exhibition.

There are two kinds of staffed galleries – industrial and non-commercial – they usually typically work in several methods.

Non-commercial galleries

These are sometimes smaller galleries that cost you for renting the area and to take a seat the images exhibit for you. They’re typically the most costly galleries to make use of for an exhibition. Non-commercial galleries will assist promote the opening, however they’re usually not excited by selling you and your work past the exhibition; in different phrases, the connection is short-term.

Non-commercial galleries make their cash out of your rental charge. In addition they take a fee from any work you promote (often round 30%). These galleries are a great way to start out getting work in your CV. Some additionally do loads of group reveals, so I’d advocate seeing if you will get work into them.

Non-commercial galleries aren’t usually choosy about what they exhibit, so long as the standard of labor is sweet. They gained’t thoughts if one exhibition is all summary work and the subsequent is all panorama pictures. It may be quite a bit simpler to get a present at one in all these galleries than on the industrial galleries.

One other nice photograph for a future macro exhibition!

Industrial galleries

Industrial galleries are quite a bit tougher to get exhibitions with. They’ve many artists to select from and often have a specific sort of artist in thoughts. They’re much less excited by a short-term relationship, and are extra excited by serving to you determine your self as one in all their artists – in different phrases, they need to signify you.

Industrial galleries will hold a few of your work in a stockroom and promote what you do. They attempt to get collectors to view your work (so the collectors will start gathering and supporting you, as nicely).

Industrial galleries often signify a distinct segment market. In case you ship your images to a gallery that solely offers with Indigenous artwork, they’re not going to have an interest. Subsequently, when approaching these galleries, it’s worthwhile to do your analysis. Make certain your work suits in with the opposite artists they signify. On the identical time, if they’ve one other artist who does work that’s nearly the identical as yours, then they’re not going to have an interest, both. The trick is to search out galleries the place your images match however are additionally considerably distinctive.

Industrial galleries typically value quite a bit much less for an exhibition. Nevertheless, they’re tougher to get reveals in and can take a better fee. (Right here in Australia, that charge is often round 40%, in comparison with the 30% taken by non-commercial galleries.)

One other picture that I would come with in an upcoming exhibition of my work.

Submitting your work to galleries

Most galleries promote when it’s an excellent time to submit proposals. Whilst you can ship inquiries at different occasions, it’s best to examine their web sites for submission dates (i.e., occasions when they’re asking folks to ship in exhibition proposals).

Commissions and pricing your work

All galleries cost a fee, and a few cafes do, too. When pricing your work, it’s worthwhile to take into account this quantity. Ensure you discover out the fee proportion when first inquiring about exhibiting within the area.

Additionally, with regards to pricing, try to be lifelike. If you’re new to the artwork world, charging 1000’s of {dollars} in your work isn’t possible. Solely established artists can command costs like that. To get an concept of what you possibly can realistically cost, have a look at the area by which you’ll be exhibiting and see how a lot earlier artists have charged for comparable work. If you’re proud of the costs, you may attempt charging the identical.

As your repute grows and extra folks begin shopping for your work, then you possibly can take into account charging extra.

Dealing with loss on account of injury or theft

Once you hire an area to point out your work, you additionally tackle the duties of it as nicely. Even galleries are unlikely to cowl any theft or injury to your art work.

That is typically within the contract or phrases. Ensure you are conscious, and if you happen to’re frightened, then insurance coverage could possibly be an choice.

Insuring your work

As I stated, most locations is not going to cowl your work if it’s broken or stolen. Subsequently, insurance coverage is one thing it’s worthwhile to take into account when displaying your artwork. Do you want to buy insurance coverage? In fact, most artists don’t fear about it, however that doesn’t imply it’s best to do the identical. I’d advocate doing a little analysis; see how a lot it is going to value and if it feels value it.

Now, if the work has value you some huge cash to supply, then insurance coverage is extra vital. You may also speak to the gallery and see if they’ve had issues previously, particularly with theft.

Additionally, if the work goes into a high traffic zone, like a walkway, the place it may be broken or somebody might stroll off with it, then it’s undoubtedly value contemplating.

On the finish of the day, whether or not you get an insurance coverage coverage ought to rely upon the work itself, but additionally on the exhibition area. In case your work is displayed in a restaurant, then the workers might not have the time to observe the work in any respect, particularly throughout busy intervals. A gallery goes to be in a greater place to observe – however provided that they’ve the workers. If it’s a must to sit the area your self, are you able to watch all the pieces?

Must you body your work?

I used to be testing out a framer and had this macro picture printed on canvas.

Many locations will reply the query of framing for you: They are going to both say the work must be framed or that it may be pinned to the wall.

If the work must be framed, then it’s essential to determine if that’s one thing you possibly can afford. Getting work custom-framed could be very costly. For that reason, loads of artists make all their work the identical measurement (or use the identical measurement frames and simply alter the mat sizes in line with the pictures). They then go to a spot like Ikea and purchase cheaper frames. In case you do the framing your self, then you possibly can reuse the frames each time you need to do a present.

In case you don’t have to border your prints and might pin the pictures on the wall, that doesn’t imply you can’t get the work framed. Once more, you’ll need to take your finances into consideration. Nevertheless, if you happen to select to pin your photographs on the wall, it’s worthwhile to work out the easiest way to do that. If the aim of the present is to promote your work, then pinholes in your images may not be fascinating to potential consumers. Additionally, unframed prints don’t look as skilled or completed (the customer can’t simply take dwelling an unframed print and cling it on the wall).

What number of photographs do you have to exhibit, and at what sizes?

One other photograph that I would come with in an upcoming exhibit!

Figuring out how a lot work to arrange and the way large to print comes down to cost and area. Your exhibition finances can solely be decided by you – and what number of items you may make, and the scale at which you will get your work reproduced, goes to be decided by your finances.

It is usually vital to understand how a lot area you may have out there for the exhibit. If the area has solely 3 m (10 ft) of wall area, then placing up three photographs which might be one meter (39 in) throughout will make it crowded and never permit sufficient area between every photograph. Nevertheless, in case you have 10 m (33 ft) of area, and you place up 4 photographs which might be solely 50 cm (20 in) throughout, that provides you with an excessive amount of area between them.

Take into account the area rigorously. In case you assume your work appears to be like nice when enlarged, then maybe having fewer, massive items is best. However the bigger they’re, the extra they’ll value.

The identical goes for the variety of photographs. You don’t need to utterly fill the area – giving every picture room will permit them to be proven higher. Simply since you paid for the area doesn’t imply it’s a must to fill it up. And if you happen to select to border, take into account the scale of the frames, as nicely!

Editioning your images

I attempted out completely different papers to see which one would work greatest for this picture.

Editioning can also be known as “limited editions” and is one thing to think about with images. Printmakers have been doing this for hundreds of years. It signifies that you’re promising your potential shoppers that solely a sure variety of these photographs (prints) will probably be out there on the market.

Editions generally is a good method to make your work extra helpful. When you have a picture and do an version of 20, then it’s worthwhile to guarantee that the customer is aware of what quantity within the version they’re receiving (8/20, for instance). It’s essential to hold information of this so you know the way many prints of the picture you’ve offered. When you’ve offered 20, you possibly can’t promote anymore. You made a promise to those that purchased the primary 20 that you’d solely promote 20 of them. Take into consideration what number of prints of a photograph you may promote from the beginning, and be lifelike.

One other factor it’s worthwhile to watch out about with editioning is ensuring the images are all printed precisely the identical. All of them need to be constant. In case you put a bit in a present and promote it a number of occasions, folks gained’t be completely happy if the picture they obtain is just not the identical because the one they noticed within the exhibition. You don’t need to get all of them printed on the identical time, however be sure you use the identical printer for all of them and that the printer is aware of how one can replicate them identically.

Deciding on a printing medium

The medium you select for printing ought to be decided by your finances – however you must also take into account how one can make your work look its greatest. Would you like prints in frames? Or is canvas higher for the kind of picture you’ll be printing? Getting work printed on metallic is changing into standard now as nicely, although additionally it is very costly and (arguably) solely fits some kinds of images.

No matter you select, it’s worthwhile to watch out. You need to exhibit your work in the easiest way potential. Take into account printing a few of your photographs a number of other ways, then deciding which you want the most effective.

My new printer did a number of assessments so I might see which of my photographs would work the most effective on what medium.

Selecting which photographs to exhibit

Selecting the pictures to incorporate within the exhibit is the toughest half for most individuals. How are you aware what photographs would be the greatest to point out? There is no such thing as a actual method to inform.

If you’re working with a gallery that employs a curator, you possibly can possible get loads of assist from them; they’ll use their expertise with the gallery and what sells to offer you recommendation. If a curator isn’t out there, you might need to enlist the assistance of associates. Ask them to determine their favourite items. Maybe your social media websites may also allow you to see the pictures that have been hottest on-line.

With regards to curating the present, there ought to be a cohesiveness to the work and to the ultimate exhibition. Make certain all of the work suits collectively and flows nicely. Be clear in your imaginative and prescient for the exhibition. The higher your photographs look on the partitions, the extra you may promote.
