A Nearly Perfect Day

Today was nearly perfect. Nearly because my little man was feeling a bit under the weather but everything else was delightful. We stayed home from church this morning as I don’t like to share kid sickness with anyone else. The day was filled with cinnamon rolls, tent building, oranges, dancing, color time and so many other wonderful things.

While Noah was taking his nap I was catching up on some work fun in my office. Natalie ventured in (still wearing her jammies) and sat down next to me to keep me company. She sat there humming and being sweet and I knew I had to remember the moment. It was just one of those seconds in life that is so simple but filled me with so much joy. I told her not to move and let me just take a couple of pictures. After the second shot, literally, she said, ‘Uh, Mom, that was two.’ I asked if I could have just a couple of more. It truly was a rare moment that she let me.

This wedding was amazing. It was perfect to every last detail. Despite the fact that it was supposed to be in the dead cold of winter, the day was 70+ degrees with amazing light the whole day through. Every now and then, photographers will be blessed with someone who is insanely comfortable in front of the camera. This couple had that gift and it makes the day delightful beyond words. I am so grateful to have been part of this unique and beautiful wedding. I was so blessed to be able to shoot with one of the most amazing people I know, Ashley Rodgers. Like her, I will be posting part 1 and 2 of this because there are so many it might overload your browser if I did them all at once. Until then, enjoy this beautiful, crazy in love couple and their beautiful day.

I love these sweet girls! They are all so beautiful and unique in their own way. Cecily is the newest to the bunch and she is already gorgeous just like her sisters. I look forward to watching them all grow up, and who knows, maybe one day my sweet Noah might just marry one of them!

Happy Birthday Surprise

I painted Natalie’s room a few years ago with a color that I thought looked good. I was so wrong. In fact I couldn’t even find a real picture of it in my old hard drives (just an old picture from my phone). I tried to tell myself that the lime green walls made her pink accents pop in such a nice way, but whatever I told myself… it didn’t make it look good. Natalie didn’t like it either, in fact, she downright hated it and all the more as she got older. She would keep her dark pink curtains drawn just so that it would make the room appear a different color. I have to admit that is just sad.

With her birthday around the corner, I thought of the best birthday gift I could give her this year- A room makeover! My brilliant self thought of this only two days before her birthday so I had to really hit the ground running. [Because of that the pictures are fewer than I know you would have enjoyed.]

I can’t begin to express how much I LOVE opening a new can of paint. I LOVE painting… love. it. It is so enjoyable and my heart smiles with the ‘pop’ that comes when opening a new can of paint. I covered the hideous lime green with a soft, serene blue. Natalie claims blue is her favorite color so I hope she was serious. She is crazy about zebras so we ran with the theme. We bought new bedding, made new pillows, and raided Hobby Lobby.

My mom and I devised a plan to keep Natalie out of the house yesterday so she spent the night with Mimi and Papa. When she got home from school her big birthday surprise was waiting for her. I should say it was a 100% complete success.

She has said no fewer than a billion times that this was the best birthday ever.

I just want to make note here that I have absolutely no control over the way that Natalie looks when she comes home from school. I can spend 15 minutes doing her hair in the morning and somehow she will come home looking like Animal from the Muppets.

Heather’s Gender Reveal Party

A new type of celebration has started in the last couple of years and I was so honored to be part of Heather and Ryan’s gender reveal. Many don’t know what a gender reveal party is, so allow me to explain. Instead of finding out at the ultrasound what gender their baby is going to be, a couple will have the doctor seal up the answer in an envelope. The envelope is then given to a close friend or family member for safe keeping. A party is planned and everyone wears either pink or blue (depending on what they think the baby is going to be). The friend who has the envelope is given the task of revealing the gender during the party. Some people have a box of either pink or blue balloons that is opened by the couple. Some have a special caked baked and the couple finds out when they cut into it (inside of the cake is either be pink or blue). Heather and Ryan were surprised with either pink or blue confetti… take a look and find out what they are having! Congratulations, Heather and Ryan!!! I am so very happy for you.

I apologize for the lack of blog posts. I have been insanely busy with the holiday season though I know that is a terrible excuse. Here in Lubbock, we have had a little bit of snow, a little bit of rain and some of everything in between. Since I have posted last things have been fun around here as usual. Noah has dubbed himself ‘Marshmallow Boy’ (which he acquired from Sully on Monsters Inc.), Natalie has performed for her school Christmas production, and I got to see about twenty of my images blown up over six feet tall at the Nutcracker! The sugar thing has it’s ups and downs but I have officially broken my Diet Coke habit and only have one a couple of times a week (as opposed to all day long). I have been learning to sew since my wonderful husband bought me a sewing machine, and I try to find as many ways as possible to incorporate it into my packaging.

Overall though, a wonderful December! No promises of catching up on blog posts for a while… but here is a cute one to tide you over while you wait for me to get my act together.

The Rodgers

Every week Ashley Rodgers and I get together for coffee to discuss life, business, and all things mundane or wonderful that happen during the week. Basically, she keeps me sane to survive a few more days. As we were talking, she told me that her daughter came home from kindergarten with homework to bring a family picture to school and Ashley realized they did not have a current picture of her family. This seems to be the curse of being a photographer as we aren’t able to take a whole family picture for ourselves. We are only able to take children alone or together and if we are really lucky our husbands might jump in for one quick shot. This would be the reason that my Christmas card typically only contains my children. It is almost impossible to attempt a tripod because as photographers we are way past control freaks and this would leave too much to chance. Ashley’s children are so precious and well behaved that I had to include some shots of them as well. Anna is 6 (a few months older than my Natalie) and Grey is 3. Here are a couple of favorites …
