So why would you want to become a sales superstar? There could be lots of great reasons: You want to have a lot of money; You want to provide a lot of value; You want to pay off your debt; You want to feel a sense of accomplishment and personal fulfillment; You want to provide security for your family or just create security. These are all motivating reasons to get you up everyday. To begin becoming a sales superstar, you have to first embrace that you actually want to become this… that you CHOOSE to become this. Then you must let go of the past. Let go of all the excuses that have held you back and choose to begin solving every reason that has held you back. So, here’s how this works. Let’s say you have a problem, for example… “I don’t know how to be a sales superstar.” Your new response is… “great… how will I get to know how? Who can help me? What can I read? Who can help groom me?” You have to be committed to your goal and focus on it like a laser. Commit that nothing will get in the way of you achieving this goal. If you do that… then, NOTHING WILL GET IN THE WAY OF YOU ACHIEVING YOUR GOAL. That’s what successful people do. They never give up. They solve their problems and don’t allow distractions to get in their way.

I’d like you to start by making a commitment to get the support you need to become a sales superstar. Then, I’d like you to begin saying these affirmations daily:

Affirmations for Change:

1.  Before I start my day, I get in touch with my vision and purpose

2.  Before I start my day, I write out my goals and to-do items so I am set up for success.

3.  My success happens as a result of my bringing value to existing and potential customers.

4.  I deserve abundance and am willing to receive it because I provide incredible value.

5.  I make time to prospect every day.

Sales is the lifeblood of your business. It’s the food and water your business needs to survive and more than survive… be healthy! And there’s a big difference between “just surviving” and “being healthy.” When you are just surviving, there is typically a lot of stress in your life, money worries, uncertainty, hoping for the best. “Just surviving” means that there is an underlying struggle daily that penetrates your body and mind. It takes its toll on you and your business. Whereas being healthy means that you and your business are in optimum condition; you and your business are thriving, enjoying, and growing. So… which do you want? And if it’s “healthy” you want… then it’s time to make some changes once and for all. Someone asked me last week, “Is it ever easy… being an entrepreneur?” I thought about it and said, “No… it’s not. Is it supposed to be?” I have not found that life is easy: relationships, health, and business. I have found that the only thing “easy” for me to do is to sit in front of the television and watch Grey’s Anatomy. But I get no satisfaction or sense of accomplishment from that. It’s good for a check-out and to “renew” myself but it doesn’t “do” anything for me.

She then said, “So what’s the key to success.” And I thought about that and wanted to respond with some profound answer and I couldn’t. So, I responded truthfully, “It’s hard every day that I put myself out there. If you want it to be easy, don’t put yourself out there. Putting yourself out there means there will be rejection, falling down, failure, upset, and it means there will be exhilaration, energy, excitement, adventure, fear… I LOVE all of that. I don’t think I always loved that. I think once I adopted a good relationship with fear, entrepreneurship became fun for me.

I think if someone enters the world of “entrepreneurship” thinking it will be easy and that there won’t be a fight, there will be disappointed. But, if you want and are determined to be an entrepreneur, then go for it and keep going for it because it’s a ride that never stops. Know that you are in for a fight… a fun, scary, awesome fight. Not a nasty, “bruise people” fight but a fight for your freedom, a fight for your ideas, a fight for the things you want. It’s all part of it. So, the key, accept that it will hard, challenging and scary and then you won’t be disappointed when it’s all of those things.

Well…Do Less!! Why do we insist on working 15 hour days… stop it already! Unnecessary and your creativity will be sapped!! Put a cap on it. Prioritize. You don’t have to accomplish everything yesterday and you won’t. You never do, so why try? End your freakin day at a reasonable hour. You will be more productive, more creative and get more results.

Schedule Fun Time Daily!! You now know what you HAVE TO DO because you prioritized and narrowed your responsibilities to only those things you MUST DO. Right? Of course right! Now… what are you going to do for fun? Did you schedule anything? No? Why not? Everyday shouldn’t you enjoy? How will you get that day back? Enjoyment is a critical part of your life isn’t it? Shouldn’t it be? Ok then, schedule “free, fun” time daily. Make plans, have phone or in-person dates with friends, see a movie, make a nice dinner… whatever is enjoyable for you but ENJOY! DAILY!!!

Add “the fun” During Work. There are so many ways to have fun WHILE working. And why not? Why would you want it to be daunting, boring, “un-fun?” Hello…. You wouldn’t! So, how to make it fun? Listen to music; do work in an awesome environment like the beach, coffee shop or somewhere you love; include others while you work: friends, family, significant other… why not? If you think of “how” you can make it fun, chances are you will figure something out. It’s just that most won’t do that. But not you… you’ll do it, cuz you’re a rock star entrepreneur who LOVES advice from “moi!”

1.  Stop Judging & Instead ACCEPT

All right, you got off track. The past is the past. Let it go. Accept that is what happened so we can get to the business of doing something about it in THIS MOMENT.

2.  Re-Commit… RIGHT NOW!

The problems really arise when you, because you got off track, say, “forget it” and abandon your goals because you dropped the ball. Don’t do that! Just get back on the horse. Don’t say, “I’ll start next year.” Don’t waste precious moments beating yourself up. Get back on track NOW! Re-Commit NOW by saying, “I re-commit right now.”

3.  Determine 30-Day Action Steps… RIGHT NOW!

So what has to happen to get back on track? What do you need to do? Make some calls? Drive to the gym? What steps do you need to take to achieve your goal? Write them down… please. Pretty please… with sugar on top. It will take 10 minutes of your time.

4.  Schedule the “Action Steps”… RIGHT NOW!

Just go to your calendar and start scheduling the actions in your calendar. That’s how you “intend” to follow through. Schedule.

5.  DON’T QUESTION

Now, follow your schedule. Don’t question what’s in your schedule or come up with reasons why you can’t. Just do what your schedule says to do. Why? Simply because you have integrity and you said you would. If you keep the promises you make to yourself, you will succeed. If you don’t, you won’t. It’s that simple.

So… that’s it. The past is over and now, let’s just get back on track!

1. Identify What You Value: Your brand is a reflection of what you value. For example, if you value honesty, then your brand will likely reflect the way you’re always honest with your clients and prospects. So what do you value? What is important to you?

2. Identify What Makes You Unique: With your values as your foundation, the next step is to determine your specific uniqueness. How is your company unique? It could be: quality, pricing, the story behind your company, etc. Something has to have you/your company stand out from the rest.

3. Identify How You Want To Be Perceived: Branding is about other people’s perceptions of you. So, how do you want people to perceive you and your business? Think about how Nike is known for inspiration and “just doing it,” and Volvo for safety. What are you known for? What do you want people to think of when they think about your company?

This is a good start. Once you have done this, start integrating this into your company right away. Awesome!

POPULAR MISCONCEPTION: There is a popular misconception amongst entrepreneurs that you have to pretend to be something you are not when you create your brand; that you can’t be YOU; that you can’t show your quirks and vulnerabilities and personality; that you can’t share what’s important to you; that you have to hide behind an image.

THE REALITY: You MUST bring personality to your brand whether it’s your personality or someone else’s or a product personality. Think of Nike vs. a Generic Running Shoe or Rachael Ray vs. Gordon Ramsey. Personality behind products and services is crucial. We, as consumers, want specific brands because they represent “who we are.” Am I a Coca Cola girl or a Vitamin Water girl? Am I a Whole Foods Shopper or Ralphs Shopper? Branding helps your customers know whether you are the “right” product/service for them. It helps you attract the right customers. For example JC Penney attracts a different crowd than Bloomingdales? This is why knowing your target market and what they want is so important.

The majority of entrepreneurs that come to me don’t understand branding, don’t know what steps to take to create their brand and therefore have no brand. Let me help. Branding starts with you embracing that you want a brand vs. just a product/service. Once you have embraced that, then, scroll down for your assignment this week that will help you get started building your brand!

When setting goals, it’s great to set them high so that you have to reach. But don’t set them so high, you can’t reach them. This is setting you up for failure instead of success. So, let’s talk about how to avoid this is the future. Here are a few things to consider when setting goals:

1. Look at your “whole” life.

Besides achieving your business goals, you may have health goals, relationship goals, family responsibilities, etc.  Write out all the things that you are working to achieve in all areas of your life.

2. Honestly determine how much time you can dedicate per day/week.

Now, look at ALL the things you listed in #1 and take those into consideration while you determine how much time you can dedicate per day/week to your business. And, don’t overshoot because if you do, you are setting yourself up for failure and you’ll be back to square one.  If you can only dedicate 2 hours a day, don’t pretend you can dedicate 8. Make a commitment you can keep.

3. Determine your business goals. 

Now that you have looked at your whole life and determined how much time you can dedicate to your business, create some realistic goals taking all of that into consideration. Be realistic in your projections. Does it have to be prefect? Of course not, but it should be well thought out given all the information.

Why am I telling you this? Because working too hard is frustrating and will kill your productivity. I have been avoiding daily updates on my social networking sites because it was too difficult to deal with. Imagine how silly that is… not communicating with your community because it’s too hard – especially when I don’t have to.  I avoided it because I was afraid of the new technology and was set in my ways. Now that I have this phone, I can’t believe I put this off. All communications are easier for me.

Am I saying go out and get the iPhone. Not necessarily. You have to do what is right for you in terms of setting up systems. What I am saying is look at what is NOT working in your business. Look at what’s too hard or frustrating and figure out a solution so you can get to the business of doing what you’re great at.
