Moving from Delaware to New York City, a young couple seeks to get their tyke into a prestigeous private kindergarden.  With only one placement available at the top school in the city, the couple, along with the help of a conniving "educational consultant," design an elaborate scheme and take on new personas in order to convince both the high-profile school donors, which include a Senator and her celebrity husband, and the school’s headmaster to admit their child. Ed note : I’ve read the script for this, and it seems like it could be a pretty fun movie. Amy has a sizeable supporting role as the educational consultant, and I’d actually say that she’s one of the main characters.

Amy plays a dance teacher in the new Wayans Brothers’ dance movie spoof, Dance Flick, which opens Friday, May 22nd. She can be seen in the trailers, which you can view on the official movie website.

According to a good friend of mine who saw the movie last night at an advance press screening, Amy’s three scenes are worth the price of admission. From his review: “As Ms. Cameltoé, the invaluable Amy Sedaris (2008’s “Snow Angels”) delights in her name-says-it-all role, and even gets a chance to beatbox with musical backup from, let’s just say, a part of the anatomy.”

GRAND CENTRAL PUBLISHING TO PUBLISH NEW BOOK BY COMEDIAN AND ACTRESS AMY SEDARIS

New York, NY – April 30, 2009 – Grand Central Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Group, announced today that it will publish a new book by comedian and actress Amy Sedaris, currently untitled, tentatively slated for publication in Fall 2010.

A follow-up to her critically acclaimed entertaining book on entertaining, I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence, which was published in October 2006 and quickly became one of the most successful books of the year, the new book continues her unique approach to home life through the use of fun, long-forgotten crafts.

Jamie Raab, Executive Vice President and Publisher, Grand Central Publishing, who acquired U.S. rights for the book said, “We are thrilled that our successful relationship with the wonderful and gifted Amy Sedaris is continuing. Working with her proved what her legions of fans already know – that she is multi-talented and extraordinarily creative.”

Amy Sedaris has appeared often on screen, both large and small.  She’s co-creator, with Stephen Colbert and Paul Dinello, of Comedy Central’s hit show Strangers with Candy and half of the Obie-winning “Talent Family” (with her brother, David).  Amy lives in Manhattan with the ghost of her imaginary boyfriend, Ricky, and her rabbit, Dusty.

The deal was negotiated with literary agent Tracy Fisher at the William Morris Agency.

One of my buddies from Flickr, Debbie, participated in a press/conference call interview with Amy about her upcoming guest role on The Closer . Amy will guest star on the February 16th and 23rd episodes of The Closer as Fritz’s psychic sister, Claire Howard.

Closer creator James Duff tells me that Sedaris’ Claire Howard whiles away her days as "a psychic who’s wandered the occupational landscape, taking on, at various times, the job of yoga instructor, glass blower, Cirque de Soleil student…." Since federal agent Fritz is a bit embarrassed by Claire’s "overt spirituality," Brenda winds up spending quality time with her soon-to-be sister-in-law — to the point that Claire brings her mad skillz to one of the MCD’s cases. In doing so, Ms. Howard will form a "special bond" with one of the detectives, I am told.

The gang from How’s Your News? paid Amy a visit to learn how to make cheeseballs for their new series, which premieres in February on MTV (Amy’s episode will air March 15th).  You can already watch her segment online, complete with a bonus clip that definitely won’t be airing on TV. (Warning: Not safe for work unless you’re wearing earphones!)

How’s Your News? features a group of reporters with disabilities who travel across the country, documenting their experiences along the way. If you haven’t seen the 1999 documentary, it’s definitely worth checking out!
