Actually Allan’s report is not too bad though there is definitely room for improvement in certain areas going by the results of his recent exams. One or two disappointing results but that was through not enough study put in – something we intend to correct before June!

He still is not sure what he wants to do when he leaves school – he is quite talented in cooking and got a very good result in Hospitality, he had to cook a two course meal and really did very well. I am not sure if he has been considering any Jobs in IT but there is another area he has a flair for. I would really like to see him go into something creative like being a Chef or in the catering trade as he likes creating recipes and presenting meals – now there’s a good thing come to think of it…a man who can cook!

Who would they insure with – and what conditions would be imposed…?

I suppose the age of the astronauts – they are all well over 25 so that should be relatively cheap then; the speed of travel – very fast I’d say so are there extra rates for that…?; what area will the spaceship be travelling in…? a long way from earth – so what cost for that? one thing is certain though, there would be no third-party needed because who are they going to bump the spaceship into!

Whether you are irresistible to the opposite sex or not may be a direct result of how sweet your sweat smells to the object of your desire. Research shows that clues to the genetic make-up of a woman could be held in her perspiration – or in her looks. According to Australian scientists, who studied the DNA of almost 150 university students, the secrets of attraction are hidden in immune system genes that we inherit from our parents.

Clues to this could be contained in a woman’s appearance or sweat – which signals to potential partners that children produced would have the greatest chance of fighting disease. The volunteers, including would-be doctors and engineers, also filled in detailed questionnaire about their love lives. The DNA was scrutinised for variation in genes known to influence the immune system. The more diverse these genes, the stronger a person’s defence against disease. The results of the genetic tests were then matched up with the survey answers. This showed that the women with the most varied major histocompatibility (MHC) genes, had the most sexual partners.

Previous studies have shown that the more different someone’s sweat is to yours, the more pleasant you find them – and their sweat. It is thought the phenomenon evolved to prevent us unintentionally mating with relatives – or others who are genetically similar to us.

Astronomers have discovered the youngest planet orbiting a solar-type star outside our solar system. The giant planet is 35 million years old and six times the mass of Jupiter, according to astronomers. Our planet is more than 100 times more ancient at 4.5billion years old. Named BD+20 1790b and situated 83 light years away from Earth, it is the youngest planet orbiting a star of a similar size to our Sun.

Only one young planet, aged 100 million years, was previously known but the newly-discovered planet is about three times younger. University of Hertfordshire astronomer Dr Maria-Cruz Galvez-Ortiz, who was among the international team which identified the planet, described it as ‘an exciting discovery’. Young stars are usually excluded from planet searches because they have intense magnetic fields that generate a range of phenomena known collectively as stellar activity, including flares and spots. This can make it difficult to disentangle the signals of planets and activity.

They are known as one of the deadliest creatures on Earth but according to a shocking new study great white sharks are also one of the most endangered. Wildlife experts say there are now fewer than 3,500 great whites left in the oceans, making them rarer than tigers. Yesterday, marine biologists called for an end to mankind’s long battle with sharks and demanded urgent action to prevent them going extinct.

Great white sharks have a deserved reputation as ruthless and efficient killers, who use ambush techniques to attack fish, dolphins and seals from below. They can grow 20 feet in length, weigh up to 5,000 lb and are found in any warm coastal waters – from the Mediterranean to New Zealand. Most, however, live off the coasts of California, Mexico, Australia and South Africa. The new estimates of their population are due to published later this year by scientists at Stanford University who have been studying the migration of sharks tagged with radio transmitters.

They found that great whites are incredible long distance swimmers, capable of travelling 12,000 miles in nine months!

And he has been at it again. Of course, as last time, this will all run to textbook form. Cheryl will lose a lot of weight while she is hiding out in the US, she will come back to the UK ‘gaunt and fragile’ , all doe-eyed and perfectly made up.

Not quite how the rest of us look when we suffer the same sorrows. I would not say that having an unfaithful partner is the best best fat burner you will find – effective yes, but not desirable – but women like Cheryl are so accustomed to self-deprivation when it comes to food that they hover between thin and gaunt all the time. Just dump him Cheryl, do us all a favour.

Cellulite remains a woman’s number one enemy even though men really don’t get our obsession with it. From special tights to a style of hotpants, from specially designed flip-flops to dubious oils and creams, we women are always after the perfect and effective cellulite cure, but does one exist?

Hard to say. I bought the elancyl glove and gel when I was 20 and remember having to be bothered to use the thing in the shower every day – after the novelty wore off, and seeing nothing changing, I left it lying in the bathroom for months later. Of course there would not have been any change to see because on reflection I never had cellulite!

Our son was diagnosed with this awful skin complaint when he was 12 months old – he was itchy and not sleeping well and these lesions were creeping up and all over his face and head. That began our ordeal which is only now starting to see some relief. James was lucky in that the eczema was generally restricted to his wrists, back of the legs and around his neck – his skin is very dry and I cannot count how many hours I have spent rubbing cream into his skin. We also used cortisone cream as his eczema treatment but only sparingly as it is a steroid and can be harmful.

This past year I have been bathing him in a kelp extract which makes the bath water smell like the sea and this is a brilliant concept. He is almost eight and although he still has the dry skin the red lesions and the itching is becoming rarer – if he eats something spicy or chocolatey we will notice a flare up but in general it looks like he will be eczema free by the time he is a teenager. So hang in there – there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

My partner is always at the studying – he has worked his way through a variety of diplomas over the past 20 or so years so that he now has a raft of qualifications and letters after his name. Right now he is working his way through his 3rd Degree and I’d say a Master’s is not too far in the future. One of the craziest things he says he ever did was combining studying for his MBA with working a full-time job, in fact he reckons if he had to do this today he is not sure if he would not crumble under the pressure.

These days so many people are now taking the very challenging GMAT prep and undertaking their MBA’s that I’d say he should build on what he has because he did his in 1993 and has had so much more experience since then. He has been able to put every diploma he has received to good use – the MBA was useful when we bought the hotel and he finally put that marketing qualification to work.
