2015-06-14T13:31:00.002+01:00

been a hell of a long time since i did one of these blogs mainly because ive been busy doing stuff and forget completely about it but maybe its time to rehash it a bit and get a few things out that i have found again or found on line ,the derby music scene is as healthy as ever as in occasionally it coughs and someone takes notice for a few seconds, remember though the talent in this city is just as good as anywhere else you just need a bit of luck.

in a few weeks time the enemy will be supporting the vibrators at the hairy dog with the ruins here are the enemy playing at the dog a few years ago great gig with some new tracks enjoy.

i will take a keen interest on this blog over the next few months so expect to see a few more things worth seeing untill then cheers jv.

friday night ends with a legend of the derby music scene in nick jackson and canker opera ,there first gig in nearly 20 yrs anything could happen musically so expect the unexpected but that voice ,no one sounds like him either then or now .and im really looking forward to hearing it again,in there time they supported such greats as throbbing gristle..and had a legendary fight with the fall although tonight its all about the music.. tickets for day one can be got from here..http://www.gigantic.com/nick-gasgoine-memorial-festival-tickets

2013-10-26T18:06:00.001+01:00

well its been a year nearly since i last did this and its about time i had a look back again ,yep its been a year of hell but also some good moments so i suppose i had better get on with things .first up then a few interviews and a few gigs then.here are a couple of gigs ,the first is the enemy at derby there last performance,in the city as they have called it a day.its been a bad year in some ways as a few derby bands have had to stop but as always others take there place..ok so what else can i put up ,yeah i know its a band i am in but hey i do the bloody thing and its worth it ,so here are the ruins recording there new track which is avalible to get on soundcloud and reverbnation.

the ruins at dubrek.so have a listen http://www.reverbnation.com/theruins4/song/18853887-new-clear-life

next up nick jackson ad for his new album everywhen that comes out next week.yep its a hard listen at times but when that voice comes in bloody hell its still good and for me still one of the most original vocal around .this interview is from the 1980s just after a gig with the fall who nick had a lovely fight with mark e smith over some cigurettes.anyway more soon ,it wont be as long next time i promise..jv

should work..

the sitwell 18th nov come and see this lot for free

2012-11-11T22:01:00.001+00:00

ok all so here is something worth going to and if you want to hear some of the bands first here are some clips its free remember so well worth going...first up at 1 1-130 FIERCE MORGAN who are from sheffield way used to be called kerplunk ,sorry i no bugger all about them .then its 145-215 SANE RI\/ER who have an album out and this is a clip of them live .....

next up is a band i now to well as im in the damned thing a new album out next year called everyday objects exit the network have been described as many things but i have to say when we are on the ball is a cracking sound here is the new single called run.

the electric shite orchestra have been going a few months and are gaining afare few followers although we dont have any film or anything i suggest you sit up and sing along to some cracking tracks you may know ,jonny march from feeb is in them.so its bound to be good.

400-430 AS8O PEEPSHOW are from nottingham and as my knowledge of nottingham bands aint that great here is a vid of themwith a track called bring back smoking.a four track ep can be found on itunes if you fancy a further listen.

445-515 3 STONE MONKEY 3 stone monkey are quickly becoming an act to be reconed with as this tongue in cheek video proves ,i paticulaly like the bass line in this for some strange reason probebly because one time i used to play one.i dont know how much this cost but a lot of fun seemed to be had makeing it and thats what this music malarky should be all about it certainly aint the money.

are then its tea time so we can all have a break an ice cream and a trip to the loo.and then the evening entertainment will begin with 600-615 EAGLE SPITS
im quit looking forward to this as its an act i havent seen before and its always a good thing to see.

615-645 THE PARENTS ar the parents what can i say well for a start dont play this to your granny as she might get the wrong ideas in her head.and you might get something you dont want for xmas.the parents live are brilliant and im really looking forward to seeing these and especially the track teleconisis and hopefully gasman .the new album is out very soon and by all accounts its a cracker so keep your eyes open and go and buy a copy.

and last up is 700-730 CERTIFIED hard core and in your face although this vid is a bit dodge you get the idea and should just about bring the house down .before we all troop of to bed .can i just say thanks to jonny for putting on the gig and thanks to the sitwell who like many venues are trying hard to keep going under difficult times ,if it wasnt for these people we wouldnt have anywhere to play so good luck to him and all the other promoters .so we hope to see you all next sunday the 18th nov,for a cracking afternoon of free entertainment and oh i nearly forgot this is going to be compared by dwayne reads a local poet who ive known for years and is really working hard and going places .it would be great to see you then.......ps the reason this blog hasnt been done much is the fact ive been flooded out and currently waiting to go home so wish me luck.cheers take care jv.

go on then......reverends review sods law feeb.

2012-07-08T13:19:00.000+01:00

Yes the last one didnt happen then im still doing it ,well people kept saying nice things about it and wanting to see more ,will just have to see what happens then if i have the time will carry on with the odd page .anyway with out further a do here is the review on the reverends album.

The Reverends … The new addicted. Album review.

You could say im biased as I have kept a keen interest in the reverends ever since I filmed one of the early practices, in fact it took me twenty seconds to realise 1. what have I been missing, and 2 what the hell did I just hear, well folks it’s the reverends angry, honest and quite frankly one of the best bands I have had the pleasure to see live many times over the past year. They are an experience in themselves live, tight as fuck, catchy songs that stick, and a lead singer who jerks around the stage trying effortlessly to keep your attention, but what about the album I hear you say well not since the early days of punk in Derby has there been anything released on this level .Bands have come and gone many promised a lot and didn’t deliver. The new addicted does deliver and in spades, yes it has its anthems pick up the pieces and take the money and run which are really catchy and great to sing along to, but forget them for a minute, there is more to this album than meets the eye, scratch the surface and under the guitar riffs and rock steady bass and drums there is a darker feel to it .The album kicks off with deranged and shows how poetic frank stridents lyrics can be. “I’ve seen you before in poison puddle rain” yes it’s a punk album but it’s also poetry of a very high standard. The second track pick up the pieces is a great sing along track and a crowd favourite about keeping going when all falls apart, then the album gets a bit heavier with big society a political rant about government scams. Community workforce and left for dead keep the pace going before uptight citizen and for me one of the best on the album and shows that the band don’t have to rely on verse chorus to produce a good song, 40 yr olds with walking sticks shows that frank has keen eye for not just the obvious but things that matter to people of all ages an awareness not really seen in other punk bands material. And so like watching them live the tracks keep coming a relentless stream of classic material each one will have you singing along within seconds, camps, sings his life, give it up son ,all hit the mark. It’s a bit hard to be critical on the album that’s cost £800 to record and produce and it’s worth every penny to be honest but let’s have a go. A couple of tracks don’t hit the mark fat frank and yellow cake, Fat frank well is just too easy for them, it’s a throw away song an old one admitted but the quality of the others is so high it didn’t need to be on the album and yellowcake plods a bit but that’s two of the 14 tracks and name me one album that hasn’t had a couple of tracks on it that ain’t as good as the others and I will call you a liar. The only other thing if I was being really critical is the front sleeve printing it makes it a bit dark but hey who plays the fucking sleeve anyway. The new addicted then will go down in the history of the derby music scene as one of the classics to be up there with anti-past and the enemy, you may think I am being over the top but I ain’t, if Charlie Harper from the subs didn’t want to follow them at a recent gig stating it will be hard to beat that, then you know how good the band are ,so don’t take my word for it go and see them live and get the album you really won’t be disappointed. The reverends then have shown what can be done and have raised the bar for other bands it’s a (sit up and take note moment) on what can be done with little funds and a lot of hard work you can really achieve what you set out to and well done to them for that. johnny v.

and so on to other stuff and a couple of bands that i have filmed lately one is sods law who with new singer ani mositi are currently in rehersal and expected to be gigging later in the year ,i will leave it to the band to explain themselves saves me the fuckin work..

and quickly on to feeb who hail from chesterfield way ,cracking band who gig relentlesley and about time people started to take more notice of them this was filmed at the hairy dog derby which although is having trouble at the min with various issues as a place to play its top notch and i can only hope the venue can sort its problems out asap and get the venue up and running very quickly.

so thats it just a quick note my band exit the network play next saterday at the flowerpot in aid of oxfam so would be nice to see you there and look out for my coloum in moonshine mag alythough i dont know what the fuck to write about in the next issue.all the best cheers johnny v.

the last alternative derby blog.

2012-06-05T11:39:00.000+01:00

hello and so this is the last one and the blog will dissapear in the next few weeks.i have reasons for doing this which i will keep for myself but mainly its because its no longer fun anymore.its been a hell of a journey finding stuff and doing films for people to see but everything comes at a price and yes i have had some stick for it.Some deserved some undeserved .On the upside there are many bands who have got back in to music because of what they have seen and its rekindled there intrest which is great and good luck to you.i would like to thank all those who helped in variuos forms but this is the time to move on to new things.take care and look after yourselves cheers johnny v.

so here are a few highlights past and present.

ok sods law from a gig at the sitwell last week ,the ten year old drummer is a real star.

101ers derby cleos

the reverends good luck with the album chaps.

2012-03-09T19:19:00.000+00:00

sham,dury ,crompton ,.news

2012-02-27T10:59:00.000+00:00

yep been a month but its not that i havent been busy or anything oh no, ive filmed a few bands seas of mirth,in lies truth ,cromptons thresher and other bits and bobs which hopefully can put up at a later date ,my computer memory is about full so got to spend a while sorting out the files ,mundane dull stuff ,so just to keep ticking along a few pics and the odd bit of film.a nice little ticket for the yardbirds at bass wreck ,is there a punks picnic this year will have to see.

video work ,and yes its bloody time consuming but i always try my best with the footage ive got sometimes it works sometimes it dont last week i filmed a band called cromptons thresher and added a bit of footage and tried to make it a bit more intresting ,one of the main reasons i do this is to give the band a slightly different angle on to what can be achieved with what they have, visuals can ad alot the there act and can make them stand out a bit more ,i really enjoyed doing this one and i think all were pleased with the result ,so it made the whole process worth while.

i do get sick of putting up some of the stuff i was involved with but i can only use what i have unless people want to send me stuff then it gets harder to find anyway here is a gig i did in 1991 very young with a tube ,which i regulaly smacked the other singer in the face with, fun times the gig is from the wharehouse derby. and so to a few posters, these get harder to find all the time as once its found thats it especially the old stuff..

a poster from sham 69 from 1977 dont know who the support was if you do let me know.

a punk band who played at keddleston road who dissapeard whithout trace.

and a ticket stubb from ian dury gig....

finally next time a new damned headline and hopefully some new bands its going to be a busy year so enjoy it take care all the best johnny v.

the enemy live gig/stranglers/soul at cleos/

2012-01-23T20:12:00.000+00:00

Two blogs in 3 days bloody hell i must be keen ,well not particulaly but when i get something of intrest i like to get it out to you all so here it is a gig by the enemy who by all accounts will be back in the summer for a few gigs one at the bell and one up at blackpool way apparently the practies are going well and hopefully i can bring some live footage to you all one day .ive not bothered doing a big film thingy just press play and listen there are 9 tracks in all so enjoy.even the band didnt know about this and thats why i try and find stuff ,things missing or not heard in years if you have anything let me know so we can all enjoy it.got some other bands coming up soon from the 80s inc a live gig from liberties 1984 time.anyway here is the enemy

And so on to something else and from the stranglers website and derby punk phil coxon who used to follow the stranglers gig after gig and he did a diary of the la folie tour its fasinating reading and if you want to see more go to the stranglers website but here is a taster about the gig in derby assembly rooms

February 3rd Derby Assembly Rooms
P: The one I've been waiting for-my home town gig! It's the first time I've seen them in Derby but it's the band's third visit here. The first was in 1976, at a rockers club called Cleopatras, and the next was on The Raven tour in '79 when unfortunately I was in hospital and couldn't make the gig.
I've used my last holiday today so this is my final gig of the tour and I want to make the most of the day. Get to the venue early to meet up with Dean, Krista and Lyndsey are also there. We manage to see the band and have a good chat especially with JJ. Mark arrives with Tiny and we make our way to the Bell Hotel, a mecca for Punks, Skins and Mods, and have a couple of pints. Tiny decides to do a bit of mooning and we all get kicked out so we go to the venue and meet up with all my mates who have been touring partners in the past.
I see support band 'Boys In Darkness' for one last time and wait for The MIB. I get right down to the front and end up virtually on the stage by the speakers right next to JJ. I've got a brilliant view so start working with the camera. As ever on this tour, they start with Sewer and Tiny leaps on stage, struts about for a few minutes until his trousers are down and he's mooning again!! It gives the crowd a good laugh. It's a great gig with quite a few stage invaders towards the end. After the encore JJ says in my ear "See you at the Midland hotel". The Midland hotel indeed-very posh! So, after the gig, quite a few of us make our way to the Midland, which is possibly the poshest hotel in Derby but the doormen aren't going to let a bunch of young punks like us in so we decide to make our way home.
M: Got the train to Derby at midday, the venue was the Assembly rooms and Greg Herman was already there when I arrived. The band very professionally carry on oblivious to the storm of spit being unleashed from the crowd in the direction of Tiny's backside! The hotel weren't letting anyone in ( by this time we were getting bloody good at getting into hotels and it was obvious immediately that none of our techniques were going to work at this one), and we slept in various cars, bus and railway stations. Luckily I had the sleeping bag with me.

moving on and a few fliers from cleos from the derby soul scene i know very little about this as i was only 8 at the time but if anyone wants tow write a bit about it for the blog email me and will sort it out.

an finally an old video i did a few years back about the blue note i was watching this yesterday and realised the havana has since been demolished and there is a quick glimpse at the start of it what a place that was ,if they knew you you were fine if not you had some bloody weird looks anyway thats it for now .hope you enjoyed it,keep safe and see you all soon.

anti pasti live,test tubes, strummer,bbg

2012-01-21T18:25:00.000+00:00

hello and so today we mark 9 months on the blog and the hunt is on for more stuff occationally i concentrate on finding stuff on certain bands and ignore others this is not done on purpose and in time i will get other stuff up depends on how i feel and more to the pointwhat i can find,it shocked me really that between 76 and 79 no record releases came from the city but i guess thats how it was i could be wrong but hey if you know better let me know.dont forget to check the blog pages from the past there is probebly more on it that you realise andso on to todays stuff and a live gig from anti pasti from preston in 1982 this is what i found some of you may have it and others wont have heard it so in all its glory here it is the sound aint that great but who cares eh.i have also found a gig by the enemy from the 100 club and will get that sorted in good time as well.always on the look out for anything i havent heard from the past so if you have it send it this way and keep the stuff alive.

another track from cleopatras in derby and the great joe strummer signing heartbreak hotel.i didnt film this from peter and the test tubebabies at the bell but the quality is brilliant so fare play to the person that filmed it and its well worth a watch.

a nice pic of the stage at the ajanta the radiator can still be seen when the punk bands played but for how long.

and so for you football nuts and the baseball ground a nice 90 minutes of film.

so thats it this week hope you enjoyed it pass the link around to al your good friends and take care .cheersjv

Michael writes - "Tea break during band rehearsal. We were the first, though not the last, punk band to emerge from this area. This photo is from one of the first rehearsals with this line-up. We were called 'Waifs and Strays' and were managed by the owner of the only alternative clothes shop in Derby.
Nick and Oliver had left Ecclesbourne by this point to go to sixth form college. I had remained at school and I can now confess that I had to bunk off on more than one occasion to attend rehearsals."

2012-01-01T12:30:00.000+00:00

hello and a very happy new year ,and welcome back to the blog so here we go again and in to 2012 what happened to you last year dont count as its just a memory this is a new one so all the best to you whatever we do .i always get excited when i find something of intrest from the past and was delighted to finally find a bit of footage from the old derby playhouse only took 5 years and there must be more out there ,my aim is to find footage from when it became the ajanta but thats going to be impossible i think but this will have to do for now.i added a few pics and slowed it down a bit as it was a short clip so here it is and enjoy.

a couple of adverts for ajanta gigs

the furs gig is avalible to buy but im having a bit of trouble downloading it but will hope to get that up later in the year throobing gristle can be found also for those intrested .

GREAT NEWS
Anti-pasti have reformed and will be playing some gigs this year so hopefully will get some footage of them if they play in derby ,with them and the enemy doing gigs it really gives us old timers somethingto look forward to.

moving on here is a link to a gig at the vic inn from nappy rash promotions featuring the vaxines from 2005 its great that other people put stuff up for you to see and if it helps promote the bands venues and promoters in derby then it can only be good .
.

http://www.archive.org/details/NappyRashProductsPresentTheVaxinesLIve

and so on to something different and this is some old footage of allenton area in the snow taken by dave upton in 1965 i love seeing this stuff just to see how the are decays as much as anything.

and thats about it today remember if you have enjoyed any of this stuff check out the adds and the odd click every now and again (if you see something you want :)) always is appreciated.last year this blog made me a whopping £3.65 which doesnt help pay for 6 scans from the local studies libary .about time i paid it a visit though to find some new gems wonder if they have any film i can use mmmm thats a thought good day jv.

2011-12-17T20:09:00.000+00:00

hello again, yep its been a long time but i have been rather busy doing stuff ,so without further ado lets get on with it.and to start with a band that was around the derby scene in the early 80s called terminal 2
.its funny really as i am starting to get blamed for good things like bands getting back together and hunting out there own stuff from the loft .to be honest im rather pleased about it as it shows that they still have a love for the stuff they produced and hopefully they will do a gig again.so the first vid is about terminal 2 from the willington area and here is a link to their first demo http://soundcloud.com/user829450/sets/that-one-ep-from-1983-demo-1/

also if you want to view them and i must say i really enjoyed the pics in this here is a vid.complete with some posters from mickleover youth club and willington.

next up and here is some footage from the reverends that hasnt been released yet its from the gig at the bell when they supported the angelic upstarts.its been a hell of a year for the band and they are going from strenth to strenth in the derby area and also doing rather nicely abroud,i say abroud anything further than ten miles out the city is bloody good but these have managed newcastle and leicester.they are at present recording an album and i will look forward to hearing that in the new year.

another band i have some footage of left over from the year are luddite bastard and to be honest i dont know how they are doing support wise but they played at the bell the other week with zounds and eastfield and look to record some new stuff next year

and so to my own band the stance who called it a day last month,if you havent seen the documentary on the year its on you tube and has had many a good responce i wont bore you to much about it just go and watch it but here is some unseen footage of the gig at the vic 19112011 and the track is money and love.we made over £100 for charity and they were delighted with it so all the effort was worth it.i will start a new project next year but dont really no what yet.

he had some great news last week as derby band the enemy will be doing a gig hopefully in june next yearat the bell and will look forward to that one with keen intrest.if you havent heard them before here they are in all their glory.

so thats about it then for now have a great xmas and a happy new year and next year i will put up some new bands and see what the world has to offer in the streets of sunny derby all the best johnny v.

demo from derby bands avoid and molotov rain.review from2004

2011-10-20T17:29:00.000+01:00

well hello been really busy but just to keep ticking over here is a nice 15 mins from derby band avoid this is the last of what i have on them so enjoy ..and so to a band from 2002 ,(it seems not that long ago but its nearly 10 years) so lets have a listern its a demo by molotov rain and bloody good it is to so sit back and enjoy and whilst your listening you can read a review of an all dayer from 2004 at the duke of york (sg peppers as it was ) when they played many other bands get mentioned so its a good resource. the link for the review is here http://www.musicshed.co.uk/alldayer.html

i will be takin a closer look at some of these bands in good time but as i say untill the end of novemer i have to concentrate on my own gig .then i can spend more time on putting stuff up.take it easy all and look after yourself.cheers johnny v.

the reverends bell gig /doc part 1 and something else.

2011-10-02T22:02:00.000+01:00

The Reverends. hello yep its been a few weeks ive been away to bath and been busy in rehersal ,to be honest ive about had enough its completely shatters me out, a gig is hard work but today we nailed the first ten minutes so 20 top go ,ive never felt so stressed for years and the more tickets you sell the more people come the more expectation there is,but thankfully its for charity so what do you really expect led fuckin zeplin.anyway on to this week and ive revisited the reverends why you may ask well its like this ive followed them from the start and its been an intresting journey watch a band grow and every time i catch up with them they seem to take it to another level ,from the early rehersal to first gig then studio and now supporting the angelic upstarts last night and i have to say they really gave it everything so here it is 5 songs from the set.

you may notice and i have to say the bell light show is great and really adds to bands gigs so well done to them.hope you enjoy it.

ok i will apolagise in advance and i know everyone is bored of it but its important i dont like putting my own bands stuff up on here it seems a bit of a shit thing to do but as others have said its only one gig and plug it as much as you can so here is part 1 of the documentary on the stance and anyway ive nearly run out of things to put up so if you have anything of intrest please let me know .this represents the first 4 years part two will be up shortly....and you get to see what i actually look like which is a bit worrying still it has a good tale to tell.

i have also done a 12 min film on bath with a re-enactment of the american civil war but that really has nothing to do with derby so wont share that with you.anyway talks are under way with other bands to get some footage to put up so will be getting alot more after november.when ive more time.anyway one last thing click on an ad this blog has left me about £104 pound out of pocket i enjoy it yes but i like electricty to.take care all see you later cheers johnny v.

hello folks.progress.sewer system.

2011-09-17T00:44:00.000+01:00

hello so as you can see its been a bit quiet lately ,like i expected it to as i knew i would be busy so just bear with me as i get a few things sorted out,,there are some great gigs coming up so i will be out and about getting some footage to see.and a few other things.im just having a short interlude but we all need a rest.and to be honest it is hard work doing this .anyway ive found a few different things on the net to look at and this is quite intresting its whats under a part of derby so have a look.the second vid is from progress at time in 1999 you may recognize a few people if you went, personally i hated dance music...basically only put this up so you know im still here and havent given upcheers jv..

the clash prt 3 live kings hall/bga/plus other stuff.

2011-08-28T21:56:00.000+01:00

hello again, and a welcome back to the history of derby music and other stuff if it happened in this city the we can put it up ,and so today part 3 of the clash at the ass rooms. and some live rock from the kings hall in 1975 with ginger someone and some long winded guitar solos but hey it was 1975..oh and i may put a bit of footie up just to show the world what a great place the bbg was.although i like doing the films and stuff it takes a long time to do it so occationally like today apart from the clash i may just borrow what other people have done and put it up.so with out further a do here is the clash ...

and one part left to come of the clash gig ,if you want to hear the other parts check through the other months in the search tab on the left ,there is alot of stuff on that that people arnt looking at as the site only covers ten most popular so have a look in june and it should be there.

and so to the kings hall and a gig recorded in 1975

and a bit of blerg to read about it...BGA Space Machine from the Live in Derby 1975 CD. Recorded at the Kings Hall, Derby Tuesday 21st October 1975 Vocalist Marc Storace went on to Krokus. All for £1...!

its footie time and enjoy this classic match between derby and fulham when the pitch got invaded..and after this watch this classic from 1936 but what kit are we in .

and so thats it for today but im off tomorrow so may put some more stuff up then oh and pass the link around numbers have dwindled to around 20 a week which hardly makes it worthwhile to do.and please click on an ad for my 6p it all helps pay for the cat food.and filming./.cheers jv.

Atv/lurkers live the vic2002 .luddite b vid track.pics /tickets etc

2011-08-21T16:29:00.000+01:00

about time i hear you say ,well its only a week and ive been a busy boy so you will have to be patient, anyway today ive dug up a recording from 2002 at the vic inn featuring atv and also a few tracks from the lurkers at a different gig but the same venue so hope you enjoy the listen...

here is a jolly ticket from 1983 and a gig i did at finden village hall that turned in to a riot as mentioned at the start of the book if you have it if not buy a copy or download it.the bands are just blue and the well of pity obviously with the toilet damage we wernt aload back..
a few tickets from the ass rooms..stiff little fingers, dexys who i never really got on with didnt see the point of what they were trying to put across and the buzzcocks with guests who i think were joy division, but dont quote me on that..

and so to the next stop and if you want some good old fashioned punk a band i would certainly go and see at the moment are luddite bastard with there album brown noice you can find them on facebook and well worth a listen .i had some footage left so added it to the track deadend baghead a rather brilliant minute of fun about asking for 50p on the street.

the vids dont always come out as expected with the transfer and some of this didnt quite come off but its the song thats more intresting than the vid and thats what you should be looking for anyway contact them if you want to get it.

and so on to the gig in november and what a pain in the arse being in bands and arranging a gig is ,so far in the 3 months we have lost 2 guitarists broken another guitar ,broken drums had an argument got frustrated ,angry ,and elated never mind a band cancelling but hey its only cost us £250 so far and it is for charity when we will make about £50 so something seems to be a miss with it.anyway thats your lot speak soon cheers jv.

hazel climbs a mountain/fuetus/whitetown

2011-08-14T19:03:00.000+01:00

hello again,so yesterday i went to see a few bands in support of hazel who is going to climb a mountain to make money for charity so good luck to her for that ,i took some footage of the first band mud from london but felt i bit iffy after that and went home so sorry for those i didnt get but still catch up next time eh,its good to get out and see some of these bands and to be honest the quality of some of them is really good so give them your support.anyway here is the film footage. remember click on an add if you enjoyed it for my 6p royalty.

last week i made another vid for ephereal fuetus and by all accounts it came out pretty well (got sick of typing out there name and spelling it wrong though but you should know that by now).anyway i used some footage that i had spare and put in some bits of peter cushing playing a scene from 1984 in 1956 which seems a bit od to type but i think it worked well.the bit with the tv getting smashed was from you tube ,the things people do to make a few viewers is beyond belief.anyway here is the vid and as normal all comments welcome.

this afternoon went and had a band practice and to be honest it didnt go well ,we all have off days i guess but is this the only thing in the world that gets me angry well yes most the time im pretty chilled but in the band jesus i can be a nightmare at times ,wanted to kick the bloody door in ar well i will have to try harder next week. a track by poundaflesh is still going to happen but things keep cropping up and i also want to do stuff with cryo genics.also.anyone who wants some help in any way with filming bands get in touch its all good fun...and so on to something new and a new track from joyti mishra called missing her again.its great to see him keep producing music and not loseing the appetite so good luck with the new album mate. so thats your lot for the min have a good week and speak soon..ps one last thing ive done about 60 posts and a lot have been archieved so if you want to see something from a while back use the search button or look athe month thing at the bottom of the page..
White Town - Missing Her Again

thought he had packed it in..well no/ Ephemeral Foetus/canker /silent one/ and other stuff.

2011-08-05T21:21:00.000+01:00

hello yep its been a week or two i know but ive been busy and lazy if thats possible .anyway straight on to buisness and so yesterday i went and filmed a relatively new derby band called Ephemeral Foetus and filmed them at the music shed before editing this morning, to me thats the fun part .i actually enjoy going out and meeting these people and filming them and just like doing a gig you never quite know how its going to go anyway the band were great dead easy going and really made an effort to make me feel welcome .And so to the film pretty basic at the start but then went a bit overbourd with effects on the second track some works well some dont but if you dont try you dont get.anyway hope you enjoy it and remember if you like it click on an add to help raise the 36 p electric it cost to do the film.

Ephemeral Foetus

a bit of blerg abouty the band.

A four pack of bummers from Derby, UK. Started jammin in 2010 and recorded a demo which you can listen to on a selection of links listed somewhere on ere, a little slower than they're played now but you get the idea. Recording over the summertime, so the tracks will be updated in due course.

Our influences are from the darker side of the punk spectrum; if it aint wrong we're not interested. We draw our inspiration from bands such as rudimentary peni, neurosis, police bastard, his hero has gone, from ashes rise, wolfbrigade.

First gigged in early 2011 in and around Derby and got gigs lined up over Nottingham, louhborough & London in the near future. Always looking for more so if your interested just drop us a message at ephemeralfoetus@hotmail.co.uk, all we ask for is for good night and session afterwards (petrol money will always be gratefully received tho!).

Poster making.

last week i had to make a poster for the my gig in november an easy task you might think well actually its bloody difficult and took me nearly 5 hrs the amount of hassle to try and make things fit and more to the point try and make it intresting (probebly failing miserably) but you can have a look was really tricky.do real promoters like them at the vic and the bell have the same problem probebly not..but still this is the effort i came up with and if someone comes up with a better one there is a free packet of jaffa cakes in the post.

on to something to read then and 1985ish and a derby band called the silent one remeber double click to enlarge

and music yes its canker opera again i here you say well two things one they are a great listen and 2 its something someone else put up so i dont have to go to all the effort.so thanks to pete for doing this .the song is called hollow row and i think i first heard it at markeaton park many many moons ago. So thats it for todays entertainment from the derby music scene past and present see yoou all soon cheers jv.

Evening ,its tuesday back from work shattered but thought i would put one up so please pass the link around ,and make it worthwhile doing for me ,if people dont come i get bored as its a lot of work for 6 people to see but i suppose i will carry on anyway not much else on the tv.so today well somebody called john not me a better version probebly put up on facebook a vid of the egyption kings and as i have been after one for a while i asked if i could put it up so here it is complete with a few pics ive got of them.

same band but different people.

the Allies one of the first derby punk bands

it all becomes clear when you read jubilee city . a fasinating insite on the early derby bands .this to me is one of the most favorite peices ive seen.double click to enlarge...

and so on to Politicide ,based in london but originally from the derby area in about 1982 they were on the bullshit detector album v4 on the crass label..here is a couple of tracks one was written in the early 80s ..facless figures and the other early 2000ish called same old shit.very crass like but well worth a listen...
lyrics if you need them. ....

Same Old Shit Aint gonna listen to you any more

So don’t come knocking on my fucking door

You got nothing worthwhile left to say

Well, I guess you never really did anyway

Shit scum slime, you lying old fucker

You think I’m so thick that I can’t see through you?

Shit scum traitor, bastard, fuckhead

Someone kick down that fucking fence

So now it’s a crime to be out of work

Too many people getting off on the perks

Let the rats starve, lock them away

Any sign of life, make the bastards pay

Best be regal if you’re an OAP

Or it’s three fucking weeks ‘til they find your body

Ninety years old, and she’s dead from the cold

No, I didn’t see that on the BBC

So what happened to her two minute fucking silence?
.........and so comeing up in the future the final part clash gig from the assembly rooms, barbed wireless from 1980 something and well much much more so hang around and have a look..you can also check stuff using the search engine as there are nearly 50 blogs up you should know something by now you like....all the best take care johnny v.ps dont forget to click on adds ive made a staggereing 12p in the last fortnight.:)
