Ear in Provence

This is more than a year in Provence. This is an intimate portrait of the south of France where living is saturated with savoir faire. *** The French have a lovely saying -- "Croque La Vie". It is one of these sayings that has no direct translation. It means "Bite of Life". But the word croque means "crunch". So it is a crunchy bite of life, like a zesty dill pickle. And that is the way I feel in Provence -- very much alive and full of life.

<atom10:link xmlns:atom10="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom" rel="self" type="application/atom+xml" href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/AnEarInProvence" />
<atom10:link xmlns:atom10="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom" rel="hub" href="http://pubsubhubbub.appspot.com/" />

Some House Pictures of Provence

Many of the houses in the south of France are made of field stone. In the first photo, we have a hilltop village house that has been modernized and updated.

The second picture is a farmhouse in a hammeau or a farming village compound.

Both of these construction techniques show a use of the indigenous building materials that make the domiciles part of the terroir.

I consider these buildings to be beautiful.
