Sorry for the lack of posts this past month (if any of you fags care) but I've been preoccupied doing art for a game that may or may not ever exist. Fun shit though. I'm also trying to learn 3ds max and zbrush at the same time, though I doubt I'll be able to learn how to model proper in-game assets without classes on the subject.

I've also been distracted the past couple days with Fallout: New Vegas. Been enjoying it more than Fallout 3, and actually finishing missions instead of wandering around. Now if only some bug fixes and decent mods would come out already...

So apparently we're supposed to be visited by aliens or something today? That would be pretty neat. Or I think it was also speculated that it might be meteors. That would be kind of shitty.

I'd really like the end of the world to be something more interesting than a giant rock destroying the world. I want my Pip-Boy and bottle caps, and horrible mutant creatures that roam the land.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Well, fuck. Just finished this game a few days ago, and I've dropped 50 lbs and lost 10 years off my lifespan. I had played the Penumbra series before, so I had an idea of what to expect, but really didn't expect it to be that bad.

Survival horror is arguably my favorite genre in gaming. There's just something masochistically enjoyable about getting so immersed in a game that a book falling off a shelf makes me shit my pants. Silent Hill has always been my favorite horror series, it got under my skin like nothing else. Yet I dare say that Amnesia terrified me even more than that. Mind you, I'm not saying it's overall scarier or better, they're very different games, and I rarely pick favorites. But holy fucking bitch tits, I have never felt so terrified trying to hide or run from those monsters, or even the occasional inanimate object. Hiding behind a box staring at the ground as something breaks the door down, thinking "oh god I hope it can't see me oh fuck just look at the ground, just don't move an inch, just go away oh fuck".

Those fucking... THINGS, man

I dunno, I'm sure it's different for everyone, but for some reason this game really and truly scared the shit out of me. It's probably due partially to the oh so gradual build up, as well as the mind-fuckingly horribly appearance of those monsters. Not to mention the nature of the story, gradually revealing itself to be more and more fucked up.

The only thing I'd say wasn't 100% would be the ending(s). It seemed a little weird and lackluster, but I'm not saying it's bad at all. I was still thinking "man fuck this shit, I'm out of here". That and the lack of replay value, but hey, I'd say it was WELL worth $20.

It is depressing in a way though, it seems like the true survival-horror genre is dying in gaming, and I'm betting it will be a long time, if ever, before another game this good comes out. But hey, I'm still ever the optimist.

On a side note, holy shit 100 followers! You guys are awesome, keep up the support and I'll keep up mine.

Seeing through someone else's eyes

Skip to 2:00 for the bit that really blew me away. The whole series is pretty fascinating, browse through it if ya get the time.

The part with the cat watching the movie was freaky as fuck though. They could actually scan the brain and reassemble the activity of the visual neurons into a picture, essentially recording what the cat sees. It's pretty low quality at the present moment, but wow. I can only imagine in the future it will be possible to watch through someones eyes, recording how they see the world around them.

The way the image taken from the cat's brain showed a "cat-like" appearance, though it may have just been the noise distorting the image, really freaked me out. Maybe in the future this technology will be better refined, and we will be able to see better what the world looks like through someones/somethings eyes.I won't even get into all the shit about different people's perceptions, like is your blue the same as my blue?

Andromeda Galaxy

The massive, seemingly empty space outside and around our planet has always been a subject of great interest for me. When you look up at night and see a beautiful starlit sky, most never really consider what they're looking at. For most it's just another ceiling, they never really pay it any thought.

Here's some fun facts---

Our Sun is the closest star to us, though still impossibly far away. We haven't even put a man on Mars yet. So what's the closest star to our own? That would be Proxima Centauri, a measly 4.2 light years away. But how far is one light year?

One light year covers the distance of about 5.8 trillion miles.

In one trillion miles, you could circle the earth a little over 200 million times. Ever tried counting to one million? These are big fucking numbers.

That star is somewhere around 20 trillion miles away. And that's the CLOSEST one. So let's look at our galaxy as a whole:

From end to end, the Milky Way galaxy measures 100,000 light years across. Don't even try converting that to miles.

The galaxy itself contains an estimated 100 billion stars. Each with the possibility of having a system of planets orbiting it like our own.

At this point my head is already full of fuck. You can't even begin to fathom the size of our own galaxy. Then, it gets even bigger.

Hubble deep field

I don't feel like looking up all the details, but the Hubble deep field image covers "a speck of the sky only about the width of a dime located 75 feet away." -from hubblesite.org. The image shows 1,500 galaxies of varying size throughout varying stages of evolution. Holy fuck, son.

This is the kind of thing I feel we as a species were never really supposed to see. That's not to imply a divine being watches over and forbids us to know, it's just impossible to comprehend. We're looking at things that exist, yet we will never ever visit them. I think it's unlikely humanity will ever even reach the closest star, much less beyond our galaxy.
I'd say the possibility of life existing out there is 110%. A hundred and ten goddamn percent. It would be impossible for there not to be life elsewhere in the universe. There's probably an impossible amount of "alien" life in our own galaxy, but we'll probably never see it. Is it possible that said aliens are capable of visiting us? Perhaps. I find it hard to imagine any technology that would allow one to travel such vast distances, but it's not impossible. There really isn't such thing as 'impossible'. It's just a matter of one's limits in intelligence and perception. But that's a whole new topic entirely, haha.

So, here's a blog I decided to make. I figured it would be based around concepts and ideas that make ones head hurt. Like imagining the vastness of space, multi-verses, and other paranormal-esque themes. Shit's deep, man.

Also just random stuff I find interesting. Vidya gaems, art, the future, the past, hopes, dreams, all rolled into a giant ball and turned into a burning star.
