Available in print and ebook, Myth makes a perfect companion for Legend.

Book Description:

All the glory you could ever dream of shall be yours.

Marek Rhihart, the legendary ‘Stormheart’, was once an infamous and mighty warrior. His reputation for skill and bloodlust in battle and a desire to conquer spread across the lands.

In a final confrontation, the Stormheart gave his very life to stop the corruption of his soul and the world around him, but now evil has returned.

A dreadful darkness threatens to descend from the heavens and burn all in its path to ashes. Only one man can stop it. One man with the heart for battle.

Returned to life, and haunted by the horrors of his past, the Stormheart must once more stride into battle.

Edward Drake brings us the concluding part to the Stormheart duology. A vivid and daring pulp fantasy adventure of swords and sorcery in the spirit of Robert E. Howard.

The Noose & Gibbet by Craig Saunders is a horror novel unlike anything else in the genre. It’s quirky, darkly funny, grim, occasionally gross, creepy, and above all, hugely entertaining. Craig’s vivid imagination and larger-than-life characters shine in this story of struggle, survival and destiny.

Blrub:

A quirky, dark horror novel by Craig Saunders

There’s a street sweeper who walks the streets of Frampton. Some see him, some don’t. He’s a preacher too, and he’s preaching death.

People are dying to feed the dark apostle’s faithful. The townspeople find themselves fighting against those who would do them harm in the name of the street sweeper’s dark god.

Warren Johns, the last of a dying breed, knows the dark god’s name and he’s come to fight.

His name is The Hangman, and he rides a dark horse. He holds sway over the town and the one man that can stop him is already too late.

And yet, in the middle of the battle for the town, a young woman and a boy find there are more important things to fight for than just life itself…

Can they stand up to The Hangman and save the town?

We’re pleased to announce the release of the first of pair of short story collections from Edward Drake featuring his iconic character Marek Stormheart.

As part of the Pulp Line series, the two collections (Legend and Myth) represent the biggest releases of the imprint so far with a combined 80,000 words of stories across the two titles.

The cover is by the brilliant Thomas Boatwright who has supplied all but one of the illustrations for the Pulp Line imprint. The book itself (Legend) is a linked series of short stories charting the rise of Marek Stormheart: warrior, hero, legend.

Marek Stormheart made his first appearance in Day of Demons anthology. He proved popular enough that requests for more stories were made. Edward took that story and worked backwards to get Stormheart’s past, represented here in Legend, and also took it forward and wrote about his future in the follow up (due in about month) Myth.

Blurb:

All the glory you could ever dream of shall be yours.

Marek Rhihart was a young warrior with a burning ambition for conquest.

His actions of bravery and skill with a blade preceded him, and he became known as the Stormheart.

Throughout his adventures, he learns more about the force inside that keeps him alive against the odds. As Marek grows stronger, leaving a river of blood in his wake, he starts to wonder if his abilities are a curse rather than a blessing.

Marek has to face his ultimate challenge and discover what he truly is before he’s completely lost.

For fans of Robert E. Howard and the Solomon Kane stories. Edward Drake takes us back to the golden age of sword and sorcery with this collection of tales guaranteed to fill your mind with adventure and high stakes.

You can order the ebook package direct from Anachron Press or from one of our many partners.

Howdy fiction fans. Hope you all survived xmas and new year in one piece, and you all got book tokens or something. It’s been a crazy couple of months, and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon with a bunch of new stuff all lined up. So without further ado, here’s the skinny on what’s going down at Anachron Towers.

Pulp Line goes from strength to strength

Not only did we release two volumes in Dec, 2012, but we have 2 more ready for January. First up we had No. 1 – Curse of the Jade Amulet… and other tales by Jack Calico, then we had No.2 – Hookers & Blowe by Mhairi Simpson. January’s releases are No.3 – The Harker legacy, and No.4 – O’Leary’s Luck (both by Teel James Glenn)

Other new releases for 2013

We have two more exciting Pulp Line releases coming from Edward Drake in March/April. He wrote us a short story in Day of Demons centred around his Sword & Sorcery character ‘Marek Stormheart.’ He’s taken Marek and written two collections of short stories charting his ascent to glory and subsequent descent. If you’re a fan of Robert E. Howard’s Soloman Kane, you’ll enjoy these. Covers to come soon.

Then we have our big project from last year: Urban Occult. That’s currently in copy-editing and we’re aiming for a March release for that. I was originally hoping for a February release but we extended it slightly so we can add more awesome to the book.

Blurb: Behind urban life, weird and horrific things fester.

The whispers and chills of things long gone… the promise of power from the darkness… the seduction of those that lie in the shadows… the occult is all around us: in town houses, in mansions, and in your very own street.

Editor Colin F. Barnes brings together a critically acclaimed cast of authors from around the globe who look into the stygian gloom, explore the dark corners of our houses, and peer into the abyss of human temptation.

The Noose & Gibbet

The horror doesn’t stop there!

Oh no. We have a brilliant horror novel scheduled for April time by Craig Saunders called ‘Noose & Gibbet.’ Blurb and details coming soon, but we’re all very excited about this one. Craig’s a fantastic writer and he’s produced a fast-paced, horrific and occasionally comedic horror story that is a whole lot of fun and chills.

Like all our releases here, this will be available in both print and ebook. And we’ll have an opportunity for bloggers and reviewers to get all these books as early ARCs. We’ll put out a call on that soon as we’re developing our own special area of the website for reviews to gain access to these ARCs.

Remaining News

We’re also pleased to announce we have signed two more Pulp Line stories. The first a collection of great pulpy Sci-Fi from the brilliant Alasdair Stuart (He of Pseudopod and Hub fame), and a third story from Teel James Glenn (Another Bob Howard adventure) titled ‘Fist of the Fae.’ Kung fu leprechauns and boxing centaurs for the win! Both of those are scheduled for around May.

Lastly we’ll be publishing Colin F. Barnes’ two follows up to Artificial Evil. Titled Assembly Code and Alpha Omega respectively. We’re looking for May to July window for those. More details to come when we have them.

My name is Anna. I was in coffee shop when it happened, one of the big chains, drinking some overcomplicated coffee it had amused me to order. There was a man in my eyeline collecting his drink, suddenly he just stopped walking, placed the coffee on the floor and collapsed next to it. I got up and looked around for someone to help and then I noticed, absolutely everyone else had collapsed too. I went from body to body at first but they were all dead. I didn’t know what else to do so I wandered back to my apartment. Where I heard or saw pet in homes I smashed windows so they could get out. It was an odd sort of auto pilot but I couldn’t stand the
thought of them trapped.

I lived alone so I went in, made a cup of tea and watched dvd’s till I fell asleep. There was no activity on any of my online forums, twitter, facebook, I guess no one I knew survived. I tweeted that I was still alive just in case, but no answer. The next day I noticed the smoke. I headed towards it. If someone was starting fires and, I realised as I could smell it long before I got close, burning the bodies, then someone else was alive. I followed the smoke until I saw the fires, then I could see an area was being deliberately cleared. I headed into that and saw a few of you outside the cinema smoking, so I came in. I don’t understand what’s happened. I don’t
understand why? How can everyone just be dead suddenly?

A little bit of flash fiction for you. I had an idea for a story and I may revisit the character for something longer, but just getting a feel for who I was dealing with here. Hope you enjoy it.

My phone woke me. Seeing which phone it was, I was instantly awake and all business, never mind that it was two in the morning. When my clients call I never let on that I’m sleeping or tired, or in the bath, or the middle of sex. It’s important they see me as somehow more than human.

So I took the call. “Jones specialist cleaners.” I listened. ” I’ll be right over.” I grabbed what I thought of as my uniform, a simple, mid range grey suit, unremarkable in every way, and was dressed and out less than ten minutes later. When I arrived at the door of the penthouse suite of the most exclusive hotel in the city the occupant was waiting the other side, I didn’t even have to knock. “Your lawyer sent me sir, if you’ll show me where the problem is?” It’s always the lawyer that calls me, or the manager, sometimes their deal. I provide a very exclusive service and the people who use it never have to call me direct. They wouldn’t know to and it’s better that way.

Usually whoever called me ushered my client away before I arrived and then removed themselves once I’d been let in. It didn’t do to associate with me too much. “I was expecting a man.” I looked at the scrawny young man, this was apparently the future of the rock scene. He was high. “Mostly people do.” I replied flatly as I followed him towards the bed. Looking at the mess on the sheets I nodded. “If you’d like to dress and go down to the bar sir, maybe organise yourself some more company, I’ll be done in….” I considered. “Seventy five minutes.” I like to be precise. It would take me about an hour, give myself an extra fifteen just in case and to be well gone by the time he returned. It sounded better to just give the client a specific figure, they felt comforted and I knew I’d be left in peace. It was like the suit, allowing me to move around unnoticed, just expensive enough to look as though I might meet someone in a district like this but cheap enough to mark me as unimportant. No one looked at me too carefully then. I’m a little flat chested, wear my hair short and people don’t usually realise I’m a woman until they speak with me. I’m good at being ignored. My real uniform, the tools of my trade were neatly folded into the bag I carried. If I needed anything else it was all in the non descript van I had driven here, if I needed extra hands I had two men in my employ that I would call, but not before I’d assessed the situation.

The name I give is Jo Jones. I offer a specialist cleaning service and my number is passed around among those who leech off the extremely rich and powerful. My services are exceptionally pricey. This is not, you understand, your usual janitorial service.

I looked again at the mess, switched from my suit to the maids uniform I had folded in the bag, keeping just my thin gloves on, and checked inventory on my little PDA, to make sure I had the right sheets with me. I did. I always did, but I always checked anyway. I checked for evidence in the rest of the room, gathered the traces of what had occurred, dropped them on the sheet with the mess I was being paid to clean. I checked once more, to be thorough and destroyed anything that might cause me problems later, the SIM card and the like. I wrapped everything up in the sheets and carried the bundle down the service stairs to the basement garage. I popped my burden into the van and grabbed the replacement sheets and returned to the room. Using the little dust buster to do a quick sweep of the bed. So many people came in and out of these rooms it was a fine line between not taking precautions and cleaning too well. No one should be looking for anything here anyway, not if I did my part right. I made the bed, changed back into my suit, did a last check of the suite and my own mental list before letting myself out and vanishing from the rock stars life forever exactly sixty three minutes after my arrival.

Thorough disposal was all part of the service, on those occasions where the problem required disposal. I clean up all sorts of messes. There was one last bit of business to attend to before I actually got rid of the evidence though. Before driving to a small local crematorium to drop off with my.. disposal expert, I made a quick call. “The jobs done. Make the transfer.” I watched on my PDA and five minutes on the funds appeared in my account. Opening the back of the van, to complete the last stage of the job I paused, thinking about pale slender fingers. It doesn’t do to think too much about the nature of the work, so I handed over the bundle and waited to be presented with the little bag of ashes and a few scorched metal parts. Those would get a shallow grave in the woods. Much easier than burying the whole body.

It’s another wonderful day at Anachron towers as we announce the launch of our second Pulp Line stories. Hookers & Blowe, by Mhairi Simpson is a fantasy crime novella following the exploits and transformation of detective Robert Blowe.

Blurb:

Detective Constable Robert Blowe has put away more criminals than most of his colleagues combined, but in a world of plea bargains and witness protection, he’s starting to wonder what the point is. His fatigue on the job gets worse when a murder of a local drug lord has Blowe on the back-foot and searching for answers to questions that go back to his childhood—to the scene of his own father’s killing.

The murderer is no average criminal and seemingly always one step ahead. You can’t touch it, let alone cuff it, and if you see it, it’s probably after you. Blowe is the only person ever to survive an encounter with the shadowy killer. That was over thirty years ago—a distant memory. Until now.

Blowe isn’t one to hide from a challenge, however, and with the aid of a peculiar informant, a little faith, and a considerable amount of guts he faces down his nemesis. If he doesn’t stop it then no one will.

Hookers & Blowe – A pulp line fantasy crime adventure by Mhairi Simpson.

Pete & Dan

Hi, I’m Pete, this is Dan. I was actually just outside when it happened. My mate was driving us down the front, we were going to meet up with friends for a beer. He just pulled the car over, stopped and slumped over the steering wheel, dead. It was really creepy.

Everyone around was just stopping what they were doing and dying, but so quietly, like they were ok with it. I got out and, well you know it’s a busy spot and there was only one other guy still standing, Dan, so I ran over and asked what was going on. Like he should know any better than I do.

Anyway the cinema was shut still, didn’t have a showing till evening so we figured at least there would be any dead in here.

We smashed a window on the department store down the road and got sleeping bags and food and stuff, neither of us lives within walking distance so we brought everything we needed back here, broke in through the side door and made a camp. Dan used to work in a projection room, so he found something cheerful and put it on.

A few more people wondered in during the night and then the next day after someone started clearing bodies into piles, more people came. I hope this isn’t everyone in the City who survived though, I mean there’s what? Twenty people here? That’s not many.

Anyway, I’m glad you’ve come. Thanks.
