How to Sing Singapore’s National Anthem: Majulah Singapura

Singapore's 45th birthday is just tomorrow! I'm so excited! Anyway, a few days back, Abang Long have posted a blog post about past national day songs. It was a hit blog post for me these few days. Do remember to vote for your favourite songs.

Other than official theme national day songs, I'm very sure, without fail, the whole of Singapore will be singing the national anthem "Majulah Singapura" together with the pledge.

By the way, the whole of Singapore will be reciting the pledge at approximately 8:10pm on National Day itself.

Since the national anthem will be sung, why not we recap how to sing it. You'll be asking.

"Abang Long, why must we recap again?"

Well, we have sang it numerous time during our school days. Unfortunately, when you go to the working world, there aren't many opportunites to sing it again.

Let's admit it, many of us would forget the lyrics of the song. Not only Taufik.

Singapore's national anthem, Majulah Singapura, was composed in Malay by Zubir Said in 1958. Besides the original Malay lyrics, there are translations of the Singapore national anthem in the other three official languages; English, Chinese and Tamil.

History
Majulah Singapura was played for the first time by the Singapore Chamber Ensemble as a concert item to mark the reopening of the Victoria Theatre on 6 September 1958. It was written before Zubir Said himself became a Singapore citizen and was originally intended for the City Council. However, the City Council was dissolved in 1959 when Singapore became a self-governing state. Toh Chin Chye (Dr), then the Deputy Prime Minister, chose the already popular song as an anthem to unite the new city-state. After slight amendments, the song was approved by the Legislative Assembly as Singapore's national anthem on 11 November 1959.

Majulah Singapura was played for the first time by the Singapore Chamber Ensemble as a concert item to mark the reopening of the Victoria Theatre on 6 September 1958.

On 3 December 1959, during Loyalty Week, the song was formally presented as Singapore's national anthem, along with the Singapore flag. Upon Singapore's independence in 1965, the song was adopted as Singapore's national anthem.

On 19 January 2001, the anthem was relaunched in the key of "F major". The original version is in the key of "G major". This version, which offers a grander expression, was rearranged by cultural award winner, Phoon Yew Tien, and recorded on 20 November 2000, played by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra at the Victoria Concert Hall. This is not the first time the anthem had been sung on a lower key. In 1983, schools were given an educational tape describing common mistakes made in singing the anthem, and they were also given the option to sing in "F major". An abridged version of the anthem has been used by official bodies since 1965 although an expanded version exists, used only in grand ceremonial functions. The version before Phoon's was by Englishman Michael Hurd and was first recorded by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra in 1989.

Majulah Singapura means "Onward Singapore" and is written in Malay. Other anthems had been sung as Singapore's national anthem prior to using Majulah Singapura.

Hi guys, this is Abang Long. Thank you for dropping by again. I've seen that there's an increase number of people looking for "Past National Day Songs". That blog post can be located here. Do vote for your favourite songs.

Anyway, a few days back, I blog about an Icelandic top flight side, Stjarnan, about their "Best goal celebration ever?" So after awhile, I wanted to see whether there are any new updates about them.

Maybe another goal celebration that beat that goal celebration?

Maybe they say, enough is enough, we should get serious about our football.

Heck,maybe they say "Since we are famous in the internet, we should do this more often."

August has arrived and it's 8 more days till Singapore will be celebrating her 45th birthday. Let us recap all the NDP songs of yesteryears and this year too. In the list below, I've added all the past NDP official theme songs and some of the songs that are not. I've even added some funny songs that I've seen on YouTube.

It's been quite some time since I've heard most of the songs. I remember when I was in primary school, I love this period. Singing patriotic songs with your friends. You can even remember the lyrics by heart and sang it to our parents at home. Fast forward to the year 2010, with the power of technology, we bring back those moments and share it with our children.

"Hey Ah boy arh, this is what daddy and mummy sang during National Day period in our school."

Best goal celebration won't happen if not for spectacular goals. I saw another video that is going viral, 'Best Penalty Kick Ever?'

Best Penalty Kick Ever?

Spain U19 star Ezequiel Calvente shows just how it should be done by scoring an audacious 'switch-hit' penalty against Italy at the U19 European Championships in France.

Calvente runs up, pulls his right foot back, aims and just before the right foot makes contact, he stubs it with his left foot into the opposite corner, leaving the Italian goalie utterly bemused. Simple, eh?

I've seen this trick before, but it's not being done in a match. Take a look at the video below. It was done by Thierry Henry during his Arsenal days.

Best Goal Celebration Ever?

I've seen many goal celebrations, whether in YouTube, while watching soccer in stadiums or live match on TV. Recently, I saw this YouTube video that is going viral around the net. The last I've seen is that the video made over 1,300,000 views.

If this video is anything to go by, goal celebrations have certainly come a long way since Roger Milla wiggled his hips down by the corner flag, when Cameroon go against Colombia in World Cup 1990.

No longer is a mere dance good enough for some players, as Icelandic top flight side Stjarnan proved in their game against Fylkir at the weekend.

Having previously celebrated goals with displays of ballroom dancing and a marching band routine, their latest effort has captured the imagination of fans across the globe.

With the game seemingly heading for a 1-1 draw, the home side were awarded a penalty in the dying moments. Up stepped Halldór Orri Björnsson to score with a delightful chip over the keeper.

While it was undeniably a fine strike, if some way off the best penalty ever. But the goal will be remembered for what followed - a beautifully choreographed manoeuvre in which Björnsson cast an imaginary fishing rod before 'reeling in' team-mate Daníel Laxdal.

The 'fish' was then picked up by several members of the team and held aloft as if he were a trophy, while another team-mate 'took a photo' for posterity.

Stjarnan held on to win the match 2-1.

About The Singapore Government Budget

The Singapore Budget is prepared for every financial year, which begins on 1st April of every year. For example, the 2010 Singapore Budget is for the period 1 April 2010 to 31 March 2011.

The Budget shows:

1. Approved expenditures and the usage of government funds of the past financial years; and
2. Planned government revenue and expenditures for the following financial year.

The annual budgeting process takes place in the following steps:

The Minister for Finance will present the Government-approved Budget to the Parliament before the new financial year begins. For Budget 2010, that will take place in February 2010. Members of Parliament will then ask questions on the past expenditure of the funds during the Budget Debate and Committee of Supply sessions. They will also debate on the proposed Budget for the following financial year.

Once the Parliament agrees with the proposed Budget, it will give its approval by passing the Supply Bill. The President will then need to give his assent to the Supply Bill to allow the Bill to come into effect.

If the President gives his assent to the Supply Bill, it is then enacted as law known as the Supply Act. The Supply Act controls the Government’s spending in the following financial year.

Singapore Budget 2010 Highlights

* S$20.5 billion “resilience” package to try to save jobs,
boost businesses. Package includes:
* S$5.1 billion on training and other measures to save
jobs.
* S$5.8 billion to stimulate bank lending.
* S$2.6 billion in grants and tax incentives to help firms
* S$2.6 billion to support families
* S$4.4 billion on infrastructure, education and health.
* 2009/2010 budget deficit to be 6 pct of GDP, before accounting for transfers.
* largest deficit to date.
* will fund S$4.9 billion of stimulus package by tapping government reserves.
* budget deficit for 2008/09 will be S$2.2 billion, or 0.8% of GDP.
* Overall budget deficit for 2009/10 will be S$8.7 billion, or 3.5 percent of GDP.
* cuts corporate income tax to 17 percent from 18 percent from Year of Assessment 2010, which will cost government S$400-S$500 million a year.
* one-time 20 percent rebate on personal income tax for Year of Assessment 2009.
* rules out cuts in employers’ contributions to Central Provident Fund.
* to create 18,000 public sector jobs over the next two years.
* to share risks for banks’ trade financing
* provide 40 percent property tax rebate for industrial and commercial properties for 2009 at cost of about S$800 million.
* government agencies JTC, HDB and SLA will provide 15 percent rental rebate to tenants.
* to defer property tax on land approved for development
* to improve cashflow of firms that want to defer projects.
* 30 percent rebate on road tax for goods vehicles, buses and taxis for one year.
* to provide support to banks to ensure S$11 billion worth of loans are available to companies this year.
* S$1 billion over next five years on sustainable development initiatives.
* grant for first-time home buyers raised to S$50,000 from S$40,000.
* tax deduction for charitable contributions raised to 250 percent from 200 percent.

Have you heard Superman fart before?

Have you ever watched this show before? Kids Say the Darndest Things. Abang Long used to watch it when I was younger. I find the kids reaction to the questions asked was funny and cute.

Kids Say the Darndest Things was an American television series hosted by Art Linkletter and co-hosted by Bill Cosby that aired on CBS from September of 1996 to April of 2000. It was based on a popular feature of Art Linkletter's television series, Art Linkletter's House Party, which aired five days a week on CBS for more than 20 years. Cosby also provided some of the humor in the show. The premise of the show is that the host would ask a question to a child (around the age of 3-8) who would usually respond in a "cute" way. Wiki

Because I pissed in its ear..

A kindergarten pupil told his teacher he'd found a cat, but it was dead. 'How do you know that the cat was dead?' she asked her pupil. 'Because I pissed in its ear and it didn't move,'answered the child innocently. 'You did WHAT???' the teacher exclaimed in surprise. 'You know,' explained the boy, 'I leaned over and went 'Pssst!' and it didn't move.'

Haha! I would have the same reaction too if I was the teacher.

So a weekend ago, Abang Long was at grandma's house. Before you think that I'm going to do the same thing and asked questions to my cousins, I wasn't. You see, Abang Long is the eldest cousin in my family. The rest of my cousins are much younger.

Especially the younger ones, they have so much energy in them, always buzzing around. They remind me of my younger days when I was like them too.

As I was sitting around with the rest of the relatives, an idea came out and Abang Long decide to ask one of my younger cousin to pronounce a word that I just coined up.

Total Defence Day is commemorated on 15 February. On this day in 1942, Singapore fell to the Japanese. It reminds us that everyone has a part to play in the Total Defence of Singapore.

Total Defence is Important
Total Defence is important becaue modern wars no longer involve only fighting among armies of soldiers. With advances in technology, Singapore can be weakened in many ways. Singaporeans must always be united and ready to defend their country at all times.

Total Defence Logo
The five arrows in the logo represent the five aspects of Total Defence: Military, Civil, Economic, Social and Psychological Defence.

The arrows point in the same upward direction. This signifies concerted effort towards a common objective of safeguarding the progress and future of Singapore.

The logo's outline is significant because:

It is, firstly, the outline of a hand, symbolising action and representing unity and completeness. Total Defence is deficient if any of the five "fingers" is missing.

Secondly, the logo is in the shape of a house, and symbolises Singapore as our homeland. With Total Defence, the security of our homeland is therefore safeguarded.

The tagline "It's personal. Play your part." in its handwritten format emphasises the personal nature of and involvement in Total Defence, reminding Singaporeans that they have a part to play in the defence of Singapore. The rounder edges of the logo give it a softer feel, reflecting the personal stake in Total Defence and encouraging Singaporeans to embrace Total Defence in their daily lives.

The crescent and five stars, and the colours of red and white, are elements from the National Flag. They represent nationhood. Total Defence brings Singaporeans together as one people.

Taken as a whole, the logo symbolises all Singaporeans doing what they can in Total Defence to ensure peace and security for the future. Source

A memorial service is held on 15 February every year at the War Memorial Park. Many people attend the service held at the Memorial to remember the civilian victims of the Japanese Occupation.

Public Warning System

The Public Warning System (PWS) is a network of sirens that the SCDF has placed at strategic points throughout the island. The purpose of this system is to warn the public of imminent threats that could endanger lives and property.

The Public Warning System will be used to warn of attacks from the air, land or sea, as well as natural and other man-made disasters. The table below shows what the various signals mean. It would be a good idea to memorise them.

Later at 12:05pm, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) will be sounding the “Important Message” through the island-wide network of PWS sirens. Members of the public are advised not to be alarmed by the minute-long sounding exercise. When the signal is sounded, members of the public can immediately tune in to any local FM radio stations to listen to a special info-mercial broadcast and learn more about the three PWS signals.

This is sounded when an air raid or shelling is imminent. It means move to a shelter immediately.

For today's post, Abang Long is going to talk about a building that was visited by many and still being visited daily.

What is Abang Long talking about? Well, take a look at the picture. Have you seen the building in the photo before? If yes, do you know what is the name of the building? What do you like about that building? Okay, Okay. Enough of guessing and questioning. Abang Long shall reveal to you what's the name of this building in the picture.

It's The Cathay.

The Cathay has came a long way before it became what is is today. Let's go back to history and learn more about this building.

History
Cathay building is one of the most stunning architectures with a rich historical background. It was opened in 1939. The Cathay building was meticulously designed by Frank Brewer and was completed in the year 1939.

Cathay Building is visited by tourists round the year. The history of the place goes back to the year 1941 when Colonel Ferguson Warren from the Royal Marines came to Singapore to train the guerrillas in order to infiltrate Malaya.

This is when Cathay Building played an important role as the headquarters of the Special Operations Executive Orient Mission. This also became the military base for his operations.

In 1942 in the month of February, before the British surrendered to the Japanese, Cathay Building was the shelter for hundreds of British army deserters who sought refuge from the Japanese aerial and artillery bombardment.

Well, there is alot of history behind this building.

Let's take a look how it appear now.

Nice right? You have not step in yet. But before we step in into this building, for the benifit of doubt of those who are not sure how to get there, Abang Long will point it out below.

How to get there?
There are four ways we can get there. There are:
1) By Train
2) By Bus
3) By your own vehicle
4) By taxi

1) By Train
One of the easiest way to get to The Cathay is by taking the train. Take the train and alight at Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station. It takes around 55 minutes to reach Dhoby Ghaut station if you come by the North-South line from Jurong East. It takes about 2-6 minutes if you come from City Hall or Raffles City.

2) By Bus
Another way to reach The Cathay is by bus. There are quite a number of busses that you can take to reached there. The name of the road that you need to look out for is 'Bras Basah Road'.

Watch out for the main building itself. The bus-stop is near a church.

3) By Own Vehicle
If you are driving, follow the instructions below to reach The Cathay. There are many ways to reach The Cathay, but the instructions below is for those going through the expressway.

1) Drive to Pan Island Expressway (PIE)
2) Whitley Road, Take Exit 19 - Whitley Road / Stevens Road, onto Whitley Road
3) Whitley Road - Slight right to stay on Whitley Road
4) Stevens Road - Turn left at Stevens Road
5) Scotts Road - Slight right at Scotts Road
6) Orchard Road - Slight left at Orchard Road
7) Handy Road - Slight left at Handy Road
8) The Cathay Carpark - Turn right at The Cathay Carpark

If you have the GPS, better still. Use it!

Take note of the carpark rates.

4) By Taxi
Last but not least, you can take the taxi to reach The Cathay. No instructions needed. Just tell uncle that you're going to The Cathay. He better know.

When you talk about The Cathay, what will come out from your mind first? I'm sure most of you will say that the big screen will be one of the few things that will come out first. But do you know that there is much more than that? There are shops that can cather to different types of people and needs. We'll take a look at what type of shops are there.

Did you know that The Cathay have been entertaining generations of Singaporeans for over 70 years?

Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day are around the corner. Still unsure about what to wear or doing some last minute shopping? There are shops that cater for both men and women.

From what Abang Long have seen from the shops, there is a wide variety of clothes available. I'm sure for most of us, after a long day of walking and shopping, we will be tired and hungry. From Abang Long's observation, there are so many variety of food available in The Cathay. You can eat outdoors, by the fountain, or snack while walking. The main bulk of the food stalls at located at Basement 1. For those kids who are following mummy and daddy, if you behave yourself you might satisfy your sweet tooth with some ice-creams from Ben & Jerry's.

So as you can see, there are so many type of shops available in The Cathay that can satisfy different needs. That's the reason why Abang Long like about The Cathay. From relaxing, to shopping, to catching up with friends over ice-cream, the windy and cooling atmosphere while sitting outside The Cathay during night time, to getting to know the history of The Cathay? Yes, history of The Cathay.

For those who want to know the history of The Cathay, visit The Cathay Gallery at Level 2. You can see unique collection of memorabilia includes items such as photographs, cameras, the old-skool seats available back then to preview of some of the movies in the past. There is so much history in them!

Talking about history, Abang Long found something interesting about The Cathay. So Abang Long decided to do a video survey. Yes, you are seeing right. A video survey. Abang Long go around looking for preys. Haha, no. Not preys, but visitors to The Cathay and asked them a few questions. Out of all 7 that agree to stop, two boys were sporting enough to do the video survey done by Abang Long.

The Cathay was the first and tallest skyscraper not only in Singapore but also in South-East Asia, with a height of 79.5 meters.

Hi.. Im one of her aquantaince.Not close but close enough to know what sort of person she is. First n foremost, lemme clear the air.
As u can see, this hacker is very smart. I was once duped by the hacker, thinking that its was her (nadia). This happens sometime last yr. Fyi, we used to live overseas.I moved in back to sg last yr.

The 'hacker' created an account in fb using her name. Not knowing that it wasnt Nadia herslf, we chatted quite a number of times. until one day, she posted a pic of herself n 2 other frens and started tagging all the pple in her list. I was quite upset cos the caption she put in that photo makes them look like whores!! those 2 girls in the photos are my 2 closest fren. And that pic was taken 4yrs ago in a water theme park.. and i was the one taking the pics!! (*and of cos we r wearing swimsuits..its a water theme park in dubai, so do u expect us to wear arbaya?*)So i made an overseas call to her.. And to my surprise!!!, she know nuthing of that sort. and she didnt hv any fb acc!!!

After knowing all these, i decided to call all our common friends to beware of this imposter "Nadia Fazlini" in fb. Later that day, another close friend of mine , E (another Suria actress) chatted with me asking me bout the private mail she received with regards to the imposter. I started to talk to her venting out my anger towards this imposter, he/she was not just trying to destroy Nadia's life but to any associates that are close to her.. while i was talking to E, i sense something is amiss.. so i decided to make a direct phone call to E, while im still online thru the internet chatting with E.
To my greatest horror..it wasnt the real 'E' that i was chatting with..its the IMPOSTER!!! when spoken to E over the phone, she cant recall any of the conversation i had earlier in her fb acc!

This is getting too far.. so i decided to call all my friends to trap her. Yes indeed . we manage to trap her. she logs out in 'E' acc and log in as Nadia. she started to chat with all of us.. Little did she knew that we were about to trap her.. we started asking her ques like..where is she staying now.. personal questions that she doesnt know bout Nadia. true enuff...!! she keeps making this error like 'dbx', which is supposed to be 'dxb' in short, for dubai. She doesnt noe her address in dubai, giving vague answers like only the street name.. even so , her spelling is totally wrong!!

We reported it to fb and her acc was then deleted. Nadia did mention that its just a matter of time that this hacker will rise again of any sort just to destroy her life. True enough. A yr later, the video is nothing in comparison with any of her other harrasment.. When i asked Nadia bout the video, she regrettedly admitted that she had done that, and the only one who had access to that video is her ex bf whom she dated 5 yrs ago..!! (of cos i knew who he is, he is now married with 2 kids!!!)

Nadia had personally warn us, that this hacker will never ever stop from harassing her. And she also reminded us that she has no other online contact such as friendster, msn, tweeter, or wateva sort. So everyone pls do not add her if another 'Nadia Fazlini' comes along and wanted to be your friend.

To the hacker, i know you are out there reading.. you know i am... Remember, GOD is watching. You may be reading this and laughing your ass out.. Karma will come to you.

It was posted by an Anonymous person but I knew her e-mail. So since Abang Long want to know more about the situation, I decided to e-mail her and asked her a few questions.

Qns 1) Could the hacker be the ex-boyfriend in the video? (In reference to my question in my blog post)

Qns 2) Why would the hacker keep harassing her? What have Miss Nadia done to that hacker till that hacker could do such thing to her? (In reference to your comment 'that this hacker will never ever stop from harassing her')

Qns 3) What have the things that the hacker do to harass Miss Nadia?

Qns 4) Do you know who the hacker is?

Qns 5) How can the hacker get hold of the video if that video is between Miss Nadia and Ex-boyfriend themself?

Qns 6) What can we do to stop this hacker?

Qns 7) Was last Sunday's Suria Sedap show being planned way ahead or changed at the last moment to create more hype or cause embarrassment to her?

So, a few days of waiting and I managed to get her reply.

Q1) Could it be Nadia's Ex?
Well maybe yes.. Maybe not... i believe they have a clean break-up back then. Moreover, he's married now. I dont think he wants to jeopardise his own family with that video of his.

Q2)Why would the hacker keep harassing her? What have Miss Nadia done to that hacker till that hacker could do such thing to her?
In my opinion, he/she is seriously jealous of her. I have tried asking that to Nadia before.. She dont even know. But the way this hacker get back to her is unethical.. He punishes Nadia as though she has commit a murder!! And that's something which is so wrong.. ; to post an explicit video for the world to know..sigh..
To add on, its not just her. The hacker did that to her own elder sis as well. The harrasing part.

Q3)The things the hacker did to Nadia?
Goodness.. you never want to be her. The hacker has 100% control over her email address, So he/she can create any account using her name.

1. The hacker has hacked to Nadia own's personal Multiply account. Fyi, Nadia used to have an account with Multiply. But it wasnt for long before she couldnt have access to it. Slowly pics of her and other,different guys she used to date started to show up. The pics are fine to me.. Like a normal couple taking a pic.. But it is absurd, when the hacker creates an album with pics of herself(nadia) with different men in 1 album.. What makes it worse, the captions that were put up were just too slutty. eg " ouh , this is pic of me & xxx. Handsome than the last french guy isit he?" , " just me & xxx to phuket" ..things like that..

2. The hacker has also create an account in fb using her name. Which I just relate earlier on.

3. Whenever she was on transit in SG, she used to received threat notes.. On one occassion, she received a bomb threat saying that she is going to die..or something like "there's a bomb" in e plane that she is flying.. i cant exactly remember the exact words that is written. But i know for sure, that the aircraft was delayed 4 hrs to have to have it screened. Since then, whenever she is on transit in sg, she was always on a different 'General Declarations'. Her profile was made confidential by the airline company when she travelled.. even her room no in the hotel.

4. There are occasions whereby, her cargo bag was scratched badly.. and her cargo bag tag was stolen. Those kind of small small stuff.

5. Nadia has changed her hp no a million times.. she keep receiving unnecessary phonecalls from unknown pple that will threaten her with vulgarities, despite having her no as private.

Q4)Do i know the hacker?
ermmm.. It could be anyone, i do not know. Mayb one of Nadia's close friend or relative ..?? Maybe there's a group of them..i seriously don know. if i have known the hacker, i would have skinned him alive!!! Not only he is a jack ass.. but he has created alot of stirs, in many innocent lives..!! Just look at Rosita Husin. For no reasons, she was being accused for spreading the link?? and those 2 girls in the photos with her.. what have they done to deserve this? And the parents.. esp the father and her husband..Just look at the damages done here. Its catastrophic!

Q5)How can the hacker get hold of the video?
Nadia has no access to that video at all. It is stored in her ex-bf hp. How it got leaked out..i dont know. Maybe his wife..?? Maybe the ex's friend ..?Its defintely not her for sure. Nobody in the right mind, would want to post that kind of info in her account..The same way goes to her other personal pictures with her family/friends and her other ex-es in her life... even before she met the guy in the video. I, myself have not seen most of the pics.. i dont even know it existed! In short, Nadia has been a target all along. And the hacker had it all nicely planned indeed.

Q6) How can we stop it?
Can you give us some ideas. Im speaking on behalf of Nadia friends who are indirectly affected.. who had their accounts hacked... who had their personal stuff in the net stolen. Tracing IPs..?? Emailing to all our friends..Reporting it to the authorities?? We have done that. So what else is left..?

Q7)Suria Sedap Tv programme featuring Nadia??
I dont know. Im not the TV person. And im not her close friend to know bout her glitz n glam side of her life.

There was a one hour interview on CNBC with Warren Buffet, the second richest man who has donated $31 billion to charity. Here are some very interesting aspects of his life:

1) He bought his first share at age 11 and he now regrets that he started too late!

2) He bought a small farm at age 14 with savings from delivering newspapers.

3) He still lives in the same small 3 bedroom house in mid-town Omaha , that he bought after he got married 50 years ago. He says that he has everything he needs in that house. His house does not have a wall or a fence.

4) "I never attempt to make money on the stock market. I buy on the assumption that they could close the market the next day and not reopen it for five years." - Warren Buffett

Safari Zoo Run 2010 After Action Review

Have you ever heard of Safari Zoo Run before? What? Safari Zoo Run? Yes, Safari Zoo Run. I believe not many people know about that run and what's the reason behind the run. Let Abang Long explain to you about this event. But let me recalled and share with you a conversation I had with Mr Taxi Driver.

Mr Taxi Driver: Eh, how come got so many people one? Zoo got promotion is it?
Abang Long: No uncle, it's the Safari Zoo Run.
Mr Taxi Driver: A Safa-what?
Abang Long: It's Safari Zoo Run uncle.
Mr Taxi Driver: Ohh, how many kilometres?
Abang Long: Around 6.2km.
Mr Taxi Driver: Woah, like that Uncle will be pancit (means exhausted in direct malay translation)

Woah, luckily he didn't ask me what is the run for. Or else he will be more shocked.

So what's the purpose of Safari Zoo Run you may ask. The purpose is because of this animal below.

The animal on your left is Ah Meng. Ah Meng, Singapore Zoo’s most famous and well-loved orang utan, passed away last two years due to old age. She was 48 years old.

Born in Sumatra, Indonesia around 1960, Ah Meng came to the Zoo at the approximate age of seven in 1971 when she was confiscated from the Chinese family who had kept her as an illegal pet. In 1982, the Zoo introduced ‘Breakfast with an Orang Utan’ programme and Ah Meng was the star. She shot to fame instantly and became a celebrity both at home an overseas. By 1986, she had featured in almost 30 travel films and had appeared in more than 270 articles in newspapers and travel magazines.

A devoted mother, Ah Meng leaves behind two sons Hsing Hsing, Satria, and two daughters, Medan and Sayang and six grandchildren. As a tribute to Ah Meng, the next newborn orang utan to be born at the Zoo will be named Ah Meng Junior.

So Safari Zoo Run is a run to mark the death anniversary of Singapore’s most beloved Sumatran orang-utan, Ah Meng!

Last year 4,000 enthusiastic walkers, joggers and runners of all ages took part in the Safari Zoo Run, the first-ever run at the Night Safari and Singapore Zoo to remember Singapore Zoo’s icon, Ah Meng.It was a non-competitive run that took runners on a 3.2km route inside the Night Safari and a 3km portion through the Singapore Zoo.

Singapore Zoo and Night Safari are located on 68 hectares of lush greenery overlooking the Upper Seletar Reservoir, and participants will be soaking in the beauty of nature during their jogs.

This run not only offers families and individuals the opportunity to enjoy the wonders of the parks in a different way, it also aid in wildlife conservation as part of the proceeds will be donated to the care of endangered animals in the Singapore Zoo and Night Safari.

So anything different this year?

Abang Long didn't attend the running event last year because Abang Long didn't know that such run exist. Call me Katak Dibawah Tempurung but Mr Taxi Driver didn't know about this event too even though it's in its second year already.

But from what Abang Long have read and research, I can assure you that this time round, there are more runners participating in the Safari Zoo Run.

Abang Long going to do an 'After Action Review' about this event on an outsiders point of view.

Firstly, Abang Long didn't run in the event because I didn't managed to book in time. Marffin and her sister managed to book it on time, so I'm giving her my support in this event and do what I love to do. Taking photographs.

1) Toilet
The position of the toilet is totally unacceptable. Knowing that there are more than 4000 runners in the event. The event organizers place the portable toilets at the very beginning of the race route.

Hello! Why would anyone want to pee when the run had just started. The location of these toilets make runners think that there was only one toilet for both genders, which was part of the zoo. Runners didn't know that portable toilets were available to them. It's not visible!

And goodness me, you should take a look at the queue for the female toilet. It was so long that the queue came out of the toilet and the end of the queue make it to the entrance of the Zoo. How bad is that?

2) The Host
I love the host. He's very comical and funny. Initially, upon hearing only his voice, I thought he was the host of 'Gotcha'. He's very lively and supportive. He keep pushing the kids to run faster till the end. He's very attentive to the runners needs like a parent who lost her child, a runner who lost her mp3 player. I don't mind the committee hiring him again for next year's run. He's good!

3) Running Route
Okay, Abang Long didn't participate in the event but from observation and feedback from others, I've something to point out.

Imagine that the running route is the number '8' The starting point is in the middle of '8' So can you imagine if the first wave of runners had run the bottom part of '8' and when they are reaching back to the middle part of '8', they realise that the other runners are still waiting for their turn to run. Here's how Abang Long will describe it. "Cock-up will soon be bound to happen"

Initially the organizers wait for five minutes before they will allow the next wave of runners to run. But when they know that the earlier waves are coming back to the starting line, they decide to minimize the waiting time to two minutes. Okay. Good effort in thinking on the spot but the problem arise soon after.

The earlier waves of runners have only a small track to run towards the Zoo. That cofused some of the runners when ushers frantically ushering them to the small track. Cones do help but they should place some signboards or the host visualising with the runners what to expect in the run.

When the later waves of runners came back to the middle part of the route, most of the earlier runners have ended their race and collecting their goody bags. This create confusion too.

1) Should they continue running towards the Zoo?
2) Should they stop running and pretend to have finished the race and join the queue?

It was so messy!

And for your info, Abang Long caught some guys who pretend to be calling on their phone when they should be running towards the Zoo to complete the race. And guess what? They join in the queue to collect their goody bags.

Okay, I know it's a fun race. You can run, jog or walk but what are you portraying to the kids beside you? Yeah you Mr Father! What moral values are you teaching to the kids beside you by doing that?

4) Crowd Control
Definitely lacking. There are people who are controlling the crowd but I guess it's too little. People are cheating. People are confuse about what to do next when they ended their race. The Zoo personnel aren't the one who should be doing that. They have their own work to do.

Apart from the four points above, I believe it's a good event, which can be improved further with 2 years of experience. Hope the next one will be a better one.

Since Abang Long didn't run in the event, I was busy taking photographs. It felt like as if I was one of the official photographers for the event. As I was shooting some random photos. Some couples, groups of people, kids stop infront of me and smile! Since I love taking photographs, that inpromptu experience made me love taking photographs even more. A couple ask me to reshoot their photographs again when they didn't show their tag number. The next question one of the lady ask.

Lady: Is the photo will be shown in the website?
Abang Long: (A litle bit lost) Huh? What website?
Lady: The Zoo Website.
Abang Long: (Smile, I was thinking what to say since I just took photos for fun) Nope, it'll be in my own personal website.

At that moment, it really made me feel like an official photographer. =D

Why Nadia Fazlini Sharip, Singapore Actress Sex Scandal, Will Be Different From RP Girl and NYP Tammy?

A GRAPHIC video clip of a former Singaporean air stewardess and part-time actress having sex with a man has been circulating online.

The four-minute clip, which focused nearly entirely on the woman in explicit poses performing sex acts, is the latest in a growing and dangerous trend among young adults who take compromising pictures of themselves or let others do so.

But unlike the other clips that have surfaced online of relatively unknown local victims, the woman in this video is a celebrity of sorts.

The New Paper believes she is a part-time actress who has appeared in television dramas on the local Malay TV channel Suria.

The video looks to be taken by the man.

It also appears to have been taken with the actress’ knowledge, as she is the focus of the video throughout.

The woman in her 20s, a former air stewardess, did not want to say much about the video when contacted by The New Paper yesterday.

When asked if she was the person in the video, she simply said it was “personal info” she did not wish to divulge.

When asked if she was upset by the video, she replied: “If you were in the video, would you not be upset?”

A hotline caller who claimed she was a friend of the woman in the video said that the clip surfaced in the last two days on a US-based media-sharing site that also included two still photographs of the woman in a bikini posing with friends.

The site allows users to create, share and discuss blogs, photos, videos and music with others.
The video of the woman was taken down by yesterday evening.

According to support staff from the site, the account of the woman was created on Tuesday and cancelled by the creator earlier yesterday.

The support staff have also said that “if this was an illegal act and the authorities contact us with a subpoena, we will provide whatever information we can”.

This same clip of the woman and two others that showed her naked also appeared on a site popular with Malay artistes in the region.

Those too were removed within a day.

The friend of the woman said that the woman was “very upset” when bikini pictures of her appeared last year, but these videos were “shocking” in comparison.

The woman acted in several drama series.

The New Paper understands that the woman is no longer on contract with MediaCorp.

Those familiar with the woman’s TV appearances were “shocked and disgusted” by the video.
Mr Muhammad, a driver in his 30s, said that he found the link to the woman’s video through a Facebook friend’s profile and watched the video yesterday morning.

“I was shocked to see it, especially since she has not been on television for the last few years. It is strange that this has suddenly surfaced,” he said.

A media executive who only wanted to be known as Serena, 31, said: “The video was disgusting. Who knew that a ‘girl-next-door’ type like her could be so naughty.”

Lawyers and counsellors interviewed yesterday touched on the growing trend of “camwhoring” and the dangers it poses.

More people are open to the idea of taking such pictures these days, while the Internet and the wide range of gadgets with cameras make it that much easier to film, and distribute the images.
According to entertainment lawyer Samuel Seow from Samuel Seow Law Corporation, it is an offence to make such videos.

Said Mr Seow: “They ought to know that such content is considered obscene. As long as you are the one filming it, you are the maker of the obscene content.”

According to Section 29 of the Films Act, an offender can be fined between $20,000 and $40,000, or jailed for up to two years, or both, if found “making” or “reproducing” obscene films.
It is also an offence to possess obscene video clips or pornographic material. Those caught can be fined $1,000 per film, up to a maximum of $40,000.

In the case of a woman who is a willing party in the clip, Mr Seow said she “she cannot claim that someone has infringed her privacy”.

However, because the reputation of the woman is reduced through the dissemination of this private video, it can constitute “defamation” of the woman and she can try to file a defamation claim against the person who leaked it.

The Straits Times reported in July last year that counsellors say there is an increase in people who indulge in “camwhoring”.

Mr Mani Joseph, the assistant director of the Asian Women's Welfare Association Family Service Centre, said he sees about five young people who have taken such photos – some of whom have posted them online – each day.

This was rare in the past, he said. “Youth used to be shy. Now, they are bolder,” said Mr Joseph, who has counselled some who post topless photos of themselves online.

Dr Carol Balhetchet, director of youth services at the Singapore Children’s Society, said she has had to counsel one teen every fortnight against such behaviour. Such acts were previously unheard of, she added.

“Many don’t realise how easily the material can leak out to the Internet.”

What Abang Long think about it?
Singapore is getting exciting in these few days. Recently, a Republic Poly student having her topless photo exposed, now an ex-actress having her sex video exposed. She is Nadia Fazlini Sharip, or better known as Shahnaz in ‘Anak Metropolitan’.

Abang Long think it's a well planned move by the "hacker" or whoever posted this video online.

Think about this.

Who could be the one posting the video in the first place? Is it Nadia's ex boyfriend? The friend who post the video in her facebook account? A very smart hacker?

The Ex-Boyfriend
He is the one who took the video so he is the one who have access to it.

The Friend
Why would she want to waste her time uploading that 4min video on to facebook account when she is currently seven months pregnant and busy with her other two children?

The Smart Hacker
This is what I could think of yesterday. The hacker got access to the video which he could have found it in the internet, posted by the Ex-Boyfriend. To make use of the power of social media, the Hacker go through Nadia's friend list. Maybe the Hacker chose a few of friends then the process start. Hacking. So the Hacker managed to hack into one of Nadia's friend, which happened to be another part-time Suria actress. Bingo! Video Uploaded! World Wide Web knows!

I couldn't think of any other possibility. Maybe you can share with me below with your comment.

Or maybe The Smart Hacker is The Ex-Boyfriend himself.

So please people.

1) Don't video-taped yourself having sex. Have sex, have sex lah! Don't have to video-taped it.

2) Please choose an appropriate password. Not password123, qwerty, iloveyou, asdfg, 123456. Choose a more complicated password please to avoid unnecessary things happening. Abang Long old e-mail have been hacked before and I don't want myself or you to have the same problem.

Looking at the trend, it won't be stopping for quite some time yet. Just look at the Singapore Google Trend on your right. That is what Singaporeans have been searching for the past 24 hours. All in the Top 9, 3 of them are related to this scandal. Nadia Fazlini, Nadia Fazlini Video Download and Rosita Hussin.

Wow! Singaporeans are so eager to know who is this Singaporean actress? I myself don't recognize her name until I saw her photo. That's where I go "Oh no!" Me too didn't expect something like this to happen to her.

Not forgetting Twitter too. Just search for 'Nadia Fazlini' in Twitter searchbox and you can see what people have been tweeting about her.

There are some people who are daring enough to post the link of the scandal video in their tweets.

Now it'll be spread like wild fire. Thanks to the advancement of technology.

There are some racist remarks too and thanks to technology we can identify easily who are all these people. How I wish that there is no race, but I know God is fair and there's always a purpose in what he do and I believe in Him.

So back to the title of this post "Why Nadia Fazlini, Singapore Actress Sex Scandal, Will Be Different From RP Girl and NYP Tammy?"

Everyone have their own views about this. Abang Long too have his own view too. So allow me to answer that question.

Unlike RP Girl and Tammy, Nadia Fazlini is more famous. First of all Nadia was an actress with Suria. Honestly, if you ask me whether I remember Tammy's face, I will say no. I don't remember her face at all. So after awhile, it died down for Tammy unless these kind of things happen again.

So to RP Girl, yes you may be traumatized right now by that accident. Just fight on during this period of time. Sooner or later, everybody will be busy with their life, nobody will remember your face. Just take Tammy as an example. I don't remember her face at all.

This ex Singapore MediaCorp actress will be having a hard time facing the society. Apart from being an ex actress, everyone have the perception that she's the "Girl-next-door type" through her face and her acting roles.

It's harder for her too because almost all the Malay society know her through her acting role with Suria. She can't walk on the street as how she used to because there are Malay Singaporeans out there walking on the street too.

Wait.

She can't even go to Geylang Serai! Oh no! Can you imagine her walking at Bazaar Geylang during Ramadan period?

To the relatives, She needs all of you right now during this period. Hope she will fight on!

Was anybody at home just now around 6.30pm to 7.00pm? Did you watched the Suria channel during that period of time?

For those who did, did you see somebody familiar? This time round with clothes on.

Yes, Nadia Fazlini was in Suria programme just now in 'Sedap'. 'Sedap' is a cooking show with veteran DJ, Asmah Laili.

Abang Long was at grandma's house when the show started. My aunties was saying "Hey! That's her!" They were careful though in choosing the words they are saying because my young cousins are around in the living room too.

One of my cousin ask my auntie.

Young Female Cousin: Auntie, what's wrong with her?
Auntie: Ask her lah. Auntie is so angry and digusted with her.

My young cousin still confused by my auntie's response.

As that was happening, I was thinking to myself this question. Maybe you can share with me your thoughts below.

Suria have been showing this programme, Sedap, for the past few weeks. It's not some programme that suddenly appear this week.

But the question that Abang Long want to ask you is this.

Was today's show with Nadia Fazlini was being planned way ahead or was it being switched at the last minute to create more hype or cause embarassment to her?

Muhammad Haikal Abdullah Zain, only 13 and ready for university

For today's Talented Thursday, we'll look into this guy. A whiz kid to be exact who is only 13 years old but is ready to go for university. Let Abang Long introduce to you to this prodigy, Muhammad Haikal Abdullah Zain.

A SINGAPOREAN boy sat for the British equivalent of the GCE A-level examinations last year and aced all his papers - and he was not even 13 yet.

Muhammad Haikal Abdullah Zain, a former student of Rosyth School, scored straight As in Biology, Physics and Chemistry, which he took last November.

He turned 13 a month later and plans to apply to study medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS).

The A-level exams Haikal sat last year carry the same weight as the GCE A levels taken by junior college students here, said the British Council, which administers the exam.

NUS confirmed it would accept students with those qualifications.

Said its office of admissions director R. Rajaram: 'We recently learnt of his interest in applying to NUS. We will be pleased to assess his application when we receive it.'

The son of an engineer and a housewife, Haikal told The Straits Times at his family's maisonette home yesterday that he wanted to try the higher-level exams four years ago when he heard about Singaporean boy Ainan Cawley, who at seven became the youngest person in the world to pass the GCE O-level chemistry examination. 'I thought this guy was only seven and could get a C at the O-levels. Since I'm older I should be able to get an A,' he said.

During Haikal's study leave, he also took time off to pursue his other interests such as chess and computer programming. He has won medals at international and national competitions for chess, holds a Grade 8 certificate in violin, and practises taekwondo.

He studied for the exams without any coaching from anyone, said his mother.

Haikal said he has dreamt of studying medicine since he was six and hopes to become a neurologist because 'the brain controls almost all the functions of the body and I think it will be interesting to study how it works'.

From what Abang Long have searched about this whiz kid, there are few things that I can say about Muhammad Haikal Abdullah Zain.

Time is definitely on this guy side.

He is 13 and is ready to be enrol to a local university. He sat for A-level equivalent papers last year in Maths, Physics, Biology and Chemistry and scored As in all four subjects. Muhammad Haikal is aiming for a place to study medicine at the National University of Singapore this year.

By the time Haikal complete his university studies, he's still in his teenage years. I hope he do make Singapore proud and I believe he can contribute a lot to Singapore.

From my research about Muhammad Haikal, he's an all-rounder.

Anak Boyan Singapura blog is no longer a personal blog that it was once used to be. Those personal posts have long been removed from this blog and transfered else where. So now Abang Long is creating a new different type of blog.

Basically, Anak Boyan Singapura (A.B.S for short) blog is a blog that revolves around Abang Long's life. It will be about matters that matter to me in our everyday life. Let me explain to you as we go along. Although I've said that the past personal posts have been transfered, there will be some personal posts in this blog. But the difference is, it won't take the majority part of this blog.

Since Abang Long have said that this blog will revolves around my life. It means every single day, I've something to talk and share with the readers.

I've been thinking about this since a long time ago and it was interesting to think about new ideas on how to make this blog interesting.

I've had past visitors that came to Abang Long's blog that search for Fauzie Laily, Abbas Saad, Singapore Soccer and some others. Infact, there's nothing about Fauzie that I've blog here apart from the post that I've blog years ago when I happened to came across him. Other than that, I did not post anything about him.

So I thought about something that is really part of the blog. Here, let me share with you what are the categories.

Since we talk about everyday life, I've put 7 categories for this for every single day. There are:

1) Monday Motivation
Most people dread Mondays. Why? I've posted about this before. So I want to change that mindset by posting something meaningful to start the week. Monday is the start of the week and if you start it badly, or with little energy, can you imagine how your week is going to be?

Abang Long is a Virgo and Virgos are perfectionist. They go through every single detail and Chef must oversee every single detail in the dish that they cook. Interesting huh?

Anyway, Temptation Tuesday will bring to you all the makan places that Abang Long have visited, be it alone or with his Marffin.

4) Thursday have two sub-category. There are Tech-Thurs & Talented Thursday
The reason I put two categories here is because there are no other "T" days in the week. Meaning to say that apart from Thursday that starts with the letter "T", Tuesday is the other day. There are no other "T" days left. I can't put any of the sub-category into Tuesday because I want to dedicate that day just for food. So I'm afraid I have to pair them up together. Well, Thursday will be shared by Abang Long about latest technology gadgets like the recent Ipad news. I'll scout the net for useful informations. I'll learn in that way, my readers will learn something too. Learning is so fun! Hehe.

Talented Thursday will be about stories or videos about individual or group of people that attract my attention. It's good to share with my readers too what Abang Long like.

5) Fighting Fit Friday
I love this category too. Infact, I'm blogging about categories that interest Abang Long. In that way, the articles that Abang Long have posted will really be interesting! Good right? Hehe.

Anybody want to join Abang Long in getting the body shape that you want? Join Abang Long in his journey to get back in shape. Yes, you've seen it right. 'Get back' in shape. Abang Long was in a good shape during my National Service days but slowly decrease when out of it. I think I've to put it to stop and get back to shape for good. There are many positives to think of when getting back in shape. Not when you have a good figure but the process to reach that target.

6) Sexy Saturday
Sexy Saturday is about relationship. Readers can expect lots of informations that Abang Long learn throughout his life from friends, own experiences and the net.

Gifts that you can make for your love ones? Surprises that you can do to him/her. Interesting ways to show your love towards your love ones. Many other topics that we can talk about!

7) Sunny Side Up Sunday
Sunny Side Up Sunday is about anything under the sun. There is no particular topic that Abang Long want to talk about on this day. Since Sunday happens to be Abang Long's family day, Abang Long also want to rest.

Something light, something that don't require Abang Long to post a long entry. Need to rest this fingers too. Hehe. Or maybe you can tell Abang Long what will you like to know. How's that?

Who is Abang Long?
My name is Muhamad Zulhairy and you can call me Abang Long. Basically, 'Abang Long' means Eldest Brother in direct Malay translation. I'm the eldest brother of 2 siblings, a brother and a sister. I've other nicknames but I prefer to be called 'Abang Long' or 'Along' for short.

What is Anak Boyan Singapura?
As stated above, 'Anak Boyan Singapura' means Boyanese Singaporean Child in direct translation. Those three words sums up my nationality, where I stay and my race.

Reason Why You Set-up This Blog?
The reason I set up a blog is hugely because I want to chart different phases of my life. The blog started way back in January 2004 where it was a personal blog. I want to note down the events that happen through my life. We live only once and I want to remember all these events again sometime in the future.

Hobbies?
I'm a big fan of Liverpool. I've been supporting them since I was 10 years old. I've grown up to the ups and downs of Liverpool and will always remain loyal. I'm a fan of Steven Gerrard but he's not my favourite player. I have a kick-a-bout with my friends once in a while in neighbourhood parks.

I'm also a huge fan of running. I like any sorts of running activities like jogging, sprinting or going through a maraton. Recently, I managed to go through the full marathon run in 2009 where I participated in Adidas Sundown.

I love taking photos. The hobby started way back in 2006 when I own my own digital camera but the hobby hits a new level since getting to know Marffin. We love taking photos of each other, scenery, buildings and all of sorts of things that might interest us.

You've always talk about your activities together with Marffin. But who is Marffin? Is she a real person?
Haha. Yes, she is a real person. She's my childhood sweetheart.

Is that all you can tell us?
For the time being, yes. But you'll get to know her in blogs to come.

Ohh,ok. Achievements?
I've many in my life and I have sweet memories of every single one of them. But the most memorable three will be:

1) Reaching summit of Mount Kinabalu at the age of 14. I was picked together with about 20-30 guys among a group of 60 to be chosen to go for the expedition. I have to thanked my teacher, Mr Chua for having faith in me although the other teacher didn't agree with Mr Chua's choice. I was glad to prove that teacher wrong by reaching to the summit while some of his chosen students didn't managed to hit the top. I was really proud of myself back then.

2) Performing foot drills with my Drill Squad in front of 1000+ of people. It was a memorable moment for me. I've always wanted to be a National Day Parade Sergeant Major. To be able to perform in front of the country. But winning the Drill Squad Competition and performing infront of the school is the next big thing. Competing against 9 other companies, my drill squad was the champion of that batch. Performing infront of School Commanding Officer and other big names was memorable for me. Too bad the squad didn't managed to perform during their Passing Out Parade in front of their parents.

3) Lastly, to be able to be in contact with Marffin again. Priceless!

Ris Low Condom Spokesperson?

Ris Low is a condom spokesperson? Oh no, she's done it again. After winning the Miss Singapore World Title, which have been stripped of, her debate for her poor fiction, creating new Singlish words with "Boomz" and "Shingz", she's back again with another shocking headline.

It seems to me that she wants more news about her. Something "rad and loud" some headlines that will go BOOMZ! Ris Low is being appointed as a youth ambassador for condom company Espire.

We've got to take our hats off to Ris Low. Like watching an out-of-control car career back and forth across the highway from one accident to another, you feel horrified, yet strangely fascinated. And somehow the Ris Low vehicle keeps on running. She's got the media equivalent of a flak jacket -- scandal, mockery and open criticism just bounce right off. She's been stripped of her Miss Singapore World title, diagnosed as bipolar, convicted for credit card fraud, bombasted for her poor diction, laughed at for creating nonsense terms such as "boomz" and "shingz," yet she just shrugs and goes on to do something else, just as jaw-dropping.

When she was ousted as a beauty queen, she publicly stated she wanted to make a comeback as a beauty pageant organiser and was looking for sponsors for an as-yet-unnamed three-in-one beauty pageant. Then she stirred another round of controversy by the liberal use of vulgarities and expletives on the Shan + Rozz show on radio station 98.7.

But now, condom company Espire has appointed her to be their youth ambassador, to promote its latest product as well as advocate safe sex to Singapore youths.

Understandably, the reactions online have been mixed, with most expressing bewilderment and a strong sense of "oh god not her again." mllx4rt2 posted on the Diva website, "This girl is like a recurring nightmare that refuses to cease... And now she's selling Expire [sic] condoms. Why isn't her probation officer monitoring her activities?"

Chieftain chuckles at it all, writing that "we're at fault for giving her the infamous publicity to be infamous. Her determination to be a celebrity knows no bounds of decorum or sense of ethics."

On the Temasek Review website, Andrew Chen thanked the writers for "alerting us to a brand of condoms to AVOID. The Espire people can’t be very smart, I can only imagine the failure rates on their products."

no way commented, "To me, Ris Low is just another attention seeker. What “boomz” and “shingz,” really nonsense. So what if she was a former Miss Singapore World? She lost it, she doesn’t deserve. She’s a failure."

The only semi-positive response we spotted was from SeeWhoDie, who said that "we should respect her as a person. She is earning a decent living promoting this product."

Ris low has done it again and again. I've to salute her for her perseverance for all the unwanted publicity.

Ris Low is back in the news again and I thought I was late in posting the video above. One question that I was thinking about. Is Ris Low abit too much? Have Ris Low gone too far? Is she really that thick skin? I'm not too sure what is she thinking or what does she really want. She was the spokesperson for Espire but did not consult them when she did the safe sex video.

Said Ms Joy Tan, executive director of Zander Asia, which owns Espire: "They (producers) approached Ris directly and she went ahead without our knowledge. We are also upset by the video as it portrayed Ris in a silly manner."

The worst thing is, Ris Low claimed that Espire knew about it. Something is wrong here.

She claimed that Espire was aware of the video, and that they were "fine" with it.

Of course sooner or later they will be aware of it, but "fine" with it? I'm not too sure about that. If you were in Espire situation, what would you have done to Ris Low? Think about it and comment below.

2009 Singapore-Cambridge GCE Ordinary Level Examination

The 2009 'O' Level results are out. I hope those who get their results today are happy with them. For those who didn't get the results that they wanted, please don't give up. It's not the end of the road for you. Life has to go on.

Here are the list of top students for this year 'O' Level results.

SINGAPORE: The GCE 'O' level results are out, and this year's top student with ten A1s is Lai Kai Rou from CHIJ St Nicholas Girls' School.

The school had more reason to cheer. Out of the 44 students in Singapore that scored nine A1s, about a third or 13 students were from the school.

Crescent Girls' School also produced a bumper crop, with eight students scoring nine A1s.

Overall, some 37,400 students sat for the 'O' level examinations last year and about 81.1 per cent scored five or more O-level passes. This is similar to last year's 80.8 per cent.

The results were released at 2pm on Monday.

Happy New Year 2010!

I hope everyone had a blast celebrating the new year wherever you are. As for me, I celebrated my day with my Marffin. We went to Harbourfront to eat our lunch before heading to Vivo City.

I had my favourite Chicken Fried Rice from my favourite stall while Marffin had Roti John, which takes too long to be ready. I finished eating my food and yet the Roti John is not ready.

So dissapointed with them!

When I reached to the stall, it's not yet ready. A customer before was complaining to them to be faster as they were waiting for quite some time.

When I request for my Roti John, the reply was "Roti John makan right?"

You mean, I have to come to you and request for it and then you serve it?!

Gosh!

But neverthenless, my Marffin was calm about it. So after eating, we head down to Vivo City. We planned to catch a movie. But it seems to me that everyone is wathing movie on the last day of 2009. It was so crowded.

But then, we still want to watch a movie.

After some considerations, we head down to Kallang to watch a movie. Apparently, the shopping centre is not crowded but then again, lots of people are watching movies today but not as much as Vivo City.

We decided to watch Alvin and the Chipmunks 2! Our last movie for 2009!

I like Theodore the most. Alvin is too Yaya-Papaya to me, full of himself. Simon is too geek-y.

One conversation that shocked me was when my Marffin asked me this question.

"H1 & 2 right?"

I was looking at the posters at the wall. So I wasn't paying attention to what she said at first. That question shocked me because I thought she asked "H1N2 right?" I was like "Huh? New virus attack?" Haha. It's actually our seats number, both H1 n H2. Hehe.

Overall, i like the movie. A good movie to end the year.

After watching the movie, it's time to go back home. Marffin bought KFC meals for her and her sister at home. Took a cab to go back home as it was getting late.

Had a good day with my Marffin.

Let's give some solutions, make it 20 solutions to beat the Monday Blues. Ready? Let's go!

1) Early start - bad things happen when you are late, the tension level is high, you are in a rush, you don’t have time for breakfast, when you arrive at your office, people are shoving work into your face. It may seem like a punishment to wake up earlier on Monday but trust me, when you have enough time to organize yourself, you’ll feel like you can conquer the day easier.

2) Wear your best clothes or the cheeriest colour from your wardrobe. You’d be surprise how much your clothes could affect the way you feel about yourself. I guess this is extremely true. Refrain from wearing blue for obvious reasons.

3) Feeling the blues can be later. Is a gloomy cloud forming above your head? Ignore it - you’ll give your attention to it later, not now.

4) Treat yourself like the king in the morning - Sit down and eat. Enjoy your food. Eat well - although it’s ok to treat yourself, make sure you eat well. Have enough to drink too. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

5) Have a list of why you’re having the blues - you might be surprised that there will be things on the list that you can easily work on to make your Mondays better. My problem used to be wondering what I need to do for the week. It's because of this small things that make you feel the blues.

6) Complete as much work possible on Friday - you’ll have less work to worry about on Monday, which lead to the next point:

7) Have everything laid out the day before - your clothes, files, etc. Saves you a couple of minutes in the morning so that you can concentrate on other, more important things or urgent matters (like going to the toilet).

8) Plan your day in small gentle steps. Infact, I suggest you to plan your Monday before the start of the week, let's say on Saturday or Sunday. You just need to take a couple of minutes to plan for your week.

9) Talk to a friend - it’s most likely he/she is having the blues too. Keep your conversation short. Talk about the positive stuffs that you'll like to do for the week.

10) Laugh and smile and greet someone. Recall happy memories or a good joke. If you can’t think of any, do it anyway (fake it till you make it) Some research is saying that even the thought of laughing raises your endorphin (feel-good hormones) levels and a fake laughter provides similar benefits to a real one. Or do a good deed like giving up your seat to those that need the seat more than you do.

11) Affirmative statements - Today is a great day!! I will complete my report today. Stick positive messages around your notebook or diary and take them seriously.

12) Choose to feel happy. If you don’t already know, being happy is a choice, so choose happiness! No one wants to choose sadness!

13) Buy something new for Monday - it doesn’t have to be big or expensive - a pen, a sketchbook, fancy post-it stickers.

14) Try something new - you’d be surprise how easy it is to feel energized by doing something you’ve never done before. A new dish, a new song, a new route to work, a new puzzle, try to beat your personal timing when you're working.

15) Start working. The thing about work is, it’s usually not the work that makes us tired, it’s the thought of starting work that makes us procrastinate and go into a cycle of unproductivity. Quit thinking about starting work and just work instead!

16) Take short breaks - too much work can be overwhelming and when this happens, it is easy for you to give up. Remember to take short breaks to recharge. If your schedule allows it, you can also take a 10 minute nap after lunch.

17) Plan something special for Monday after work - meet your girlfriend or boyfriend or friend for dinner. The day will be easier when you have something to look forward to. It helps alot, especially for my other half. :)

18) Dance - just move that body! Jog in place, stretch, do yoga, moonwalk. You’ll feel less lethargic.

19) Listen to happy songs - a tune can affect your mood. Let cheery, happy songs be the soundtrack to your Monday. I'll include this on my next "Motivation Mondays with Zul"

20) Do not get distracted. Youtube, Facebook, personal emails. Once you allow yourself to get distracted you will be sucked into hours of time-wasting activities. If you don’t have the discipline to limit your distraction to 10 minutes, don’t attempt to do it at all. Actually after reading this blog, it's already 10 minutes my friend. So now that you’ve reach the bottom of the list, why don’t you get working!

When you are feeling down and emotional, what will you do and why did you do it? Different people have different opinions. Some will just run away from the problem. Some will face the problem and handle it. Some will ask someone to handle it. Which one are you?

As for me, I've different ways to handle the different problems. I'll choose what I believe is the right at that point of time.

It's a pity I don't stay in the east. The reason is because 2 of my favourite beach in Singapore are in the east. Changi beach and East Coast Park.

One of the reasons I love the beach is because it runs in the gene. My mum's family used to stay at Changi Village before being shifted by the government to HDB flats. Grandma used to tell me how my mum and her siblings love to go to the beach which was 10 minutes away from their kampung house.

Many people love to go to the beach because of the calm and peaceful environment. I love to go to the beach for that very reason. Having the sunset will be a bonus. I love to think about my problems at the beach. Lots of ideas about overcoming the problems will come easily in that environment.

But I said that the beach is too far away.

Another way that I'll do that I always do every few nights is to think on the bed. When most people are sleeping, I'll be on my cosy bed thinking. Thinking about anything that will come to my mind at that point.

Listening to music is another way that I practice sometimes. I have this favourite 'jiwang' song that I listen to sometimes. It's by a group called Slam.
