A cultural festival that aims to attract more foreign tourists is underway in Bintan, Riau Islands
The 10-day event — Bintan Cultural Festival (BCF) — commenced Saturday evening and was highlighted with traditional dance performances from regions across Indonesia.

The event was jointly organized by the Bintan regency administration and the management of the Lagoi International Tourist resort at the 23,000-hectare reservoir.

“We look forward to having this event annually,” Bintan Regent Anshar Ahmad told The Jakarta Post after the opening ceremony.

Around 500 foreign tourists and local people joined the opening ceremony that evening, which
was opened by West Sumatra’s traditional dance Tari Piring (Plate Dance), followed by Naik Lanting dance from Kalimantan and other traditional dance performances from other regions including Bali and Jakarta.

Anshar said the various traditional art permances should appeal to foreign tourists.

Traditional handicrafts and foods are also on display until March 23.

The hosts were applauded for their presentation of the Rentak Bulian dance and the theatrical opera Mak Yong.

“That way they will learn that this region is also rich in culture,” Anshar said.

The Bintan regent called on the Bintanese to actively involve themselves in the tourism promotion, following the example of Bali, which is the country’s most robust tourist destination thanks to its people’s preservation of traditional culture.

“We have to do the same in Bintan if we want to make this regency a developed tourist destination like Bali,” Anshar said.

Event organizer Chin Chow Yoon said a sustainable art concept must be implemented in Bintan if the region wanted to transform itself into an attractive tourist resort for foreigners.

“Tourists from Europe, Asia and Australia visiting Bintan through Singapore have been fed up with ‘plastic’ presentation in Singapore.

“They want something natural, like Indonesian traditional arts,” said Chow Yoon, who is also Vice president director of PT Bintan Resort Cakrawala (BRC), the management company the Lagoi International Tourist resort.

The retired brigadier general from the Singaporean Army, said through the cooperation with the regency administration, his company wanted to emphasize Bintan’s positive aspects to tourists.
Chow Yoon saw the need to preserve arts in the region to attract tourists.

“In the long run, tourists will be settled to extend their stay here that in turn will as well make a better tourism industry in our region.”

Chow Yoon added the tourist visits in the region were steadily increasing annually.

In 2006, the region saw 330,000 tourists.

The figure increased into 340,000 the following year and into 370,000 in 2008 and 400,000 last year.

“Some 80 percent of them are foreign tourists from Europe and China,” Chow Yoon said.

Barça again lifted the European Cup at Wembley after a great performance whish saw the Club claim their fourth European Cup. The team repeated the success of 1992, when the Club took its first European Cup and with goals from the great trio of Messi, Villa and Pedro, they brushed aside the challenge of a competitive Manchester United to win 3-1.

The first half saw Barça dominate much more than the scoreline might suggest, with Rooney pegging back Pedro’s opener very much against the run of play. Even so, the first 10 minutes of the game recalled the 2006 final, with United coming out of the blocks the stronger, which Barça answered with some solid defending and a gradual development of their trademark possession football. Valdes showed his worth early on with a punch out when Rooney closed in on a Van der Saar clearance.

Messi-Xavi-Iniesta

After Valdes’ intervention, Barça really began to turn on the style as Xavi, Iniesta and Messi began to combine and there was nothing that Ferguson’s much vaunted tactics could do to stop the trio as they began to put Villa and Pedro into dangerous positions.

That goal just seemed to push the Barça players to even greater control and they had a number of chances to take the lead again before the break, including a great set piece move that nearly undid the English defence.

Two great strikes

If the first half was dominated by Barça, then the second was an even more one sided affair as two great goals on 53 and 69 minutes gave Guardiola’s team a well deserved 3-1 lead. Messi hit home a wonderful strike from outside the box to culminate a lovely team move for the second goal and Villa hit a beautiful curling shot home for the third. It wasn’t just those moments of magic that were doing for United though, it was the almost total control that Barça were showing that was silencing the Manchester fans and leaving their team helpless to respond to Guardiola’s men’s domination.

Back to Wembley and back for a win!

Koeman’s brilliant free kick gave Barça their first European Cup at Wembley in 1992, but it was the collective play of Guardiola’s team that brought the trophy back this time. The win puts a fantastic end to the double winning season and it was achieved with the team’s trademark domination based on their great understanding and control of possession. Alzheimer's is a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior. Symptoms usually develop slowly and get worse over time, becoming severe enough to interfere with daily tasks.

Alzheimer and dementia basics

Alzheimer's is the most common form of dementia, a general term for memory loss and other intellectual abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life. Alzheimer's disease accounts for 50 to 80 percent of dementia cases.
Alzheimer's is not a normal part of aging, although the greatest known risk factor is increasing age, and the majority of people with Alzheimer's are 65 and older. But Alzheimer's is not just a disease of old age. Up to 5 percent of people with the disease have early-onset Alzheimer's (also known as younger-onset), which often appears when someone is in their 40s or 50s.
Alzheimer's worsens over time. Alzheimer's is a progressive disease, where dementia symptoms gradually worsen over a number of years. In its early stages, memory loss is mild, but with late-stage Alzheimer's, individuals lose the ability to carry on a conversation and respond to their environment. Alzheimer's is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. Those with Alzheimer's live an average of eight years after their symptoms become noticeable to others, but survival can range from four to 20 years, depending on age and other health conditions.
Alzheimer's has no current cure, but treatments for symptoms are available and research continues. Although current Alzheimer treatments cannot stop Alzheimer's from progressing, they can temporarily slow the worsening of dementia symptoms and improve quality of life for those with Alzheimer's and their caregivers. What Is Bipolar II Disorder?

Bipolar II disorder (pronounced "bipolar two") is a form of mental illness. Bipolar II is similar to bipolar I disorder, with moods cycling between high and low over time.

However, in bipolar II disorder, the "up" moods never reach full-on mania. The less-intense elevated moods in bipolar II disorder are called hypomanic episodes, or hypomania.

A person affected by bipolar II disorder has had at least one hypomanic episode in life. Most people with bipolar II disorder also suffer from episodes of depression. This is where the term "manic depression" comes from.

In between episodes of hypomania and depression, many people with bipolar II disorder live normal lives.

Who Is at Risk for Bipolar II Disorder?

Virtually anyone can develop bipolar II disorder. About 2.5% of the U.S. population suffers from some form of bipolar disorder -- almost six million people.

Most people are in their teens or early 20s when symptoms of bipolar disorder first start. Nearly everyone with bipolar II disorder develops it before age 50. People with an immediate family member with bipolar are at higher risk.

What Are the Symptoms of Bipolar II Disorder?

During a hypomanic episode, elevated mood can manifest itself as either euphoria (feeling "high") or as irritability.

Symptoms during hypomanic episodes include:

Flying suddenly from one idea to the next
Rapid, "pressured," and loud speech
Increased energy, with hyperactivity and a decreased need for sleep
People experiencing hypomanic episodes are often quite pleasant to be around. They can often seem like the "life of the party" -- making jokes, taking an intense interest in other people and activities, and infecting others with their positive mood.

What's so bad about that, you might ask? Hypomania can also lead to erratic and unhealthy behavior. People in hypomanic episodes might spend money they don't have, seek out sex with people they normally wouldn't, and engage in other impulsive or risky behaviors.

Also, the vast majority of people with bipolar II disorder experience significant depressive episodes. These can occur soon after hypomania subsides, or much later. Some people cycle back and forth between hypomania and depression, while others have long periods of normal mood in between episodes.

Untreated, an episode of hypomania can last anywhere from a few days to several years. Most commonly, symptoms continue for a few weeks to a few months.

Depressive episodes in bipolar II disorder are similar to "regular" clinical depression, with depressed mood, loss of pleasure, low energy and activity, feelings of guilt or worthlessness, and thoughts of suicide. Depressive symptoms of bipolar disorder can last weeks, months, or rarely years.

What Are the Treatments for Bipolar II Disorder?

Hypomania often masquerades as happiness and relentless optimism. When hypomania is not causing unhealthy behavior, it generally goes untreated. This is in contrast to true mania, which nearly always requires treatment with medications.

What Are the Treatments for Bipolar II Disorder?

People with bipolar II disorder can benefit from preventive drugs that level out moods over the long term. These prevent the negative consequences of hypomania, and also help to prevent episodes of depression.

Mood stabilizers

Lithium: This simple metal in pill form is highly effective at controlling mood swings in bipolar disorder. Lithium has been used for more than a century to treat bipolar disorder. Lithium can take weeks to work fully, making it better for long-term treatment than for sudden hypomanic episodes. Blood levels of lithium must be monitored to avoid side effects.

Depakote: This antiseizure drug also works to level out moods. It has a more rapid onset of action than lithium, and it can also be used for prevention.

Lamictal: This drug is approved by the FDA for the maintenance treatment of adults with bipolar disorder. It has been found to help delay bouts of mood episodes of depression, mania, hypomania (a milder form of mania), and mixed episodes in people being treated with standard therapy.

Some other antiseizure medications, such as Gabitril, Neurontin, Tegretol, Topamax, and Trileptal may also sometimes be prescribed.

Antipsychotics

For severe manic episodes, newer antipsychotic drugs -- also called atypical neuroleptics -- may be necessary. Abilify, Risperdal, Seroquel, and Zyprexa and are often used, and many other drugs are available. Antipsychotic medicines are also used for preventive treatment.

Benzodiazepines

This class of drugs includes Xanax, Ativan, and Valium and is commonly referred to as tranquilizers. They are used for short-term control of acute symptoms of mania.

Antidepressants

Common antidepressants like Prozac, Zoloft, and Paxil can set off a manic episode in a person with bipolar disorder. For this reason, the first treatment for depression in bipolar disorder should be lithium, Depakote, or an antipsychotic. If these fail, after a few weeks an antidepressant can be safely started. Psychotherapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, may also help.

People with severe or frequent symptoms of bipolar II disorder (mania or depression) should take medicines on a continuous basis for prevention.

Can Bipolar II Disorder Be Prevented?

The causes of bipolar disorder are not well understood. It's not known if bipolar II disorder can be prevented entirely.

It is possible to prevent some episodes of hypomania or depression, once bipolar disorder has developed. Regular therapy sessions with a psychologist or social worker can stabilize mood, leading to fewer hospitalizations and feeling better overall. Taking medicine on a regular basis also leads to fewer hypomanic or depressive episodes.

How Is Bipolar II Disorder Different From Other Types of Bipolar Disorder?

People with bipolar I disorder experience true mania -- a severe, abnormally elevated mood with erratic behavior. Manic symptoms lead to serious disruptions in life, causing legal or major personal problems.

In bipolar II disorder, the symptoms of elevate mood never reach full-on mania. Bipolar II can be thought of as a milder form of bipolar disorder.

Look and feel: The PlayBook design rivals the sleekness of the iPad 2. At just 14 ounces, it weighs less than the 1.3 pound Apple and the 1.6 pound Motorola tablets. But with its ingenious minimalist elegance, the iPad is still the winner.

E-mail: The PlayBook loses big-time. It lacks e-mail clients for Yahoo, G-mail and Hotmail. Those icons on the desktop simply link to the e-mail client Web site. Don’t be fooled into thinking the e-mail icons represent an actual program.

Camera: The PlayBook wins, with 3 megapixel front- and 5-megapixel rear-facing cameras that take pictures with great resolution, even indoors.

Web browsing: The PlayBook wins again. Though its web browsing speeds are a bit slower than the iPad 2, it has Adobe Flash player support that the Apple device lacks.

Media viewing: Though the Motorola Xoom has higher screen resolution than the iPad and PlayBook, the Playbook wins. Its HD video playback was impressive and didn’t miss a beat, whereas the Xoom was a bit more choppy.

Apps: This is the PlayBook’s biggest downside. Most of the 3,000 apps in its store are useless. Incredibly, there’s no Facebook or Twitter app available.

More apps and e-mail clients would go a long way toward making this device a worthwhile buy, and hopefully those features will be updated soon.

The only consumers that the PlayBook will currently appeal to are those who live and die by their BlackBerrys, and Research in Motion has left those die-hard customers waiting over a year for a tablet.

A Bluetooth connection will sync the PlayBook with your BlackBerry e-mail and calendar, but even that feature is lacking because it doesn’t update without the phone being connected.

Though the media viewing, camera and Web-browsing experiences lend a lot of potential to this tablet, the bottom line is the PlayBook feels like an unfinished product.

Hopefully, the PlayBook’s upcoming 4G version is upgraded significantly. For now, the tablet market continues to primarily remain an iPad market.

Right Hand 3 Finger Technique
There are many ways to use 3 fingers in the right hand. Here we will cover an idea that is based on one simple alternating pattern. In this column, we will start out with a popular way of using this pattern to less common unease of the technique.

Chapter 1 - Grouping in 3

- Introduction

3 Finger Technique is used most often to play fast phrases in groupings of 3, like 16th note triplets. Physically it makes a lot of sense, and that is the first topic that will be covered.

- Basic Technique
Playing triplets or 16th note triplets with 3 fingers are very easy, and it almost makes too much sense, to the point where you could only worry about the finger you start on, in this case, the ring finger “3”. The down side is “2” and “1” only have to follow, so it is easy to lose track these fingers. One of the goals of playing with three fingers is to have even control over all the fingers evenly. (We will cover this more in Chapter 2 - Grouping in 4.)

- 16th note Triplets
Using 3 fingers, one of the most basic patterns to play triplets is to go 3 - 2- 1 - 3 - 2 - 1 etc....

The following two are simple variations of the above example that starts on different fingers.

- Considerations
Applying this 3 finger pattern to playing a scale is the next step in understanding how well this technique works on the fretboard of a bass, as the fretboard of a bass lends itself very nicely to playing three notes per string. By combining this right hand technique with a scale, you can play them very fast and with ease. Yet having just the ability to play triplets with 3 fingers becomes limiting very quickly. To fully utilize this concept of 3 fingers with one basic pattern (3-2-1), it is important to take a different approach as well. It is difficult to play any other type of grouped notes (example 4 or 5) and also be able to accent in that grouping. This is what we will explore in Chapter 2 using grouping of 4.

Chapter 2 - Grouping in 4

- Introduction
After mastering the concept of playing/grouping in 3 (triplets), start working on grouping differently. Any kind of grouping is a variation on being able to switch the accents between index, middle or ring finger. Here we will explore the possibilities of grouping the 3 finger technique in 4, such as 16th notes and 32 notes.

Basic Technique
We will start out with great value notes, in this case 8th notes. You can start with even greater value notes such as quarter notes. It is always important to start slow and make it possible for yourself to make a good connection between your mind and your fingers. Start without a metronome, the first goal is to get used to the idea of grouping 3 fingers in 4s. Once you are familiar with the idea, gradually introduce the metronome to the technique and slowly practice. The index finger will be numbered “1”, middle finger “2”, and the ring finger “3”.

- 8th Note Exercise
There is basically one pattern in this 3 finger technique, which is 3 - 2- 1 - 3 - 2 - 1 etc.... everything is a variation on that. Basically starting on 3 would be 3 - 2 - 1 If you start on 2, it will go 2 - 1 - 3 , start on 1, 1 - 3 - 2. First exercise should start out with just muting the strings with the left hand, then pick some notes, and try playing scales. Here is the written out of the basic pattern starting from each finger. Remember to accent every 4 and to really really feel each finger to make a good connection between the fingers and the mind.

- 16th Note Exercise
The same principals apply to practicing the 16th note grouping. Once you make the connection between the fingers and the mind, you should move on to 16th notes and again start practicing slowly.

- Going back to triplets
After learning to group and accent in different numbers other than 3, go back and play triplets again, and you should find that all the notes are much more even, clearer and cleaner.

- 5
Another quick and usefully way to practice accents in the right hand with 3 fingers is to group in 5. No matter what kind of 3 finger pattern you use, by grouping in 5, the accent will always come around to different fingers. It is recommend to start this exercise by muting the strings with the left hand and to practice it with all the strings.

Chapter End - Considerations

The simple goal of this chapter is to know how you feel or react to your own fingers when using 3 fingers though out the entire fretboard and each of the strings. It is important to discipline yourself and keep a consistent pattern while practicing, but the ultimate idea is not to limit yourself with a technique, but to know yourself better with the practice of a technique. Repetition and dedication (to a technique) is very important, yet always be open to what works for you!

Barça made it into the semi finals of the Champions League without having to suffer for it by winning 1-0 away to Shakhtar. A Messi goal before the break banished any fears of the Ukrainians putting together a comeback.

Barça stayed solid and made sure of their Champions League semi final place in convincing fashion. With the safety net of the 5-1 win at the Camp Nou beneath them, they dealt with the situation intelligently. Once the early flurry from an enthusiastic Shakhtar had been nullified, they settled into their trademark possession game and a 43rd minute goal from an outstanding Leo Messi coupled with some extraordinary saves from Victor Valdés meant it was plain sailing through to the final whistle.

All five senses
Memories of the cup tie with Betis on their mind, Barça defended tight as the Ukrainians came flying at them in search of an early goal to refuel their dying European dream. But the game in Donetsk was very different to the one in Seville, to a large extent because Guardiola was risking nothing and sent out his first-choice eleven. But things could have been different had Valdés not produced a point-blank save in front of Douglas Costa in the 8th minute, the first, but most spectacular, of his many interventions. Shakhtar were piling on the pressure, to the extent that we occasionally witnessed the unusual sight of FCB opting for long punts of the ball up to the forwards.

Settling down But as the clock ticked by, Barça started getting back to the game they know and love, and tried their first few pops on goal, from long range at first, and then from closer, with Rakitskiy clearing an Adriano effort off the line and goalkeeper Pyatov preventing Messi from scoring with a cheeky chip. Just before the break, Messi got his revenge with a terrific piece of control, followed by tricky run that he finished off by finding the net to make it 1-0. That was the 48th goal of the season for the top scorer in the Champions League.

Time to rest The magnificent Donbass Arena had less thrills to enjoy in the second half. Shakhtar’s distant ray of hope was gone, and Barça opted not to do any more than they really had to. With some big games around the corner, the Catalans wanted as calm a game as they could get, and with Mascherano playing colossal football at centre back and Valdés as inspired as ever, they had little to worry about. Guardiola even opted to take off Piqué, Xavi and Villa, clearly with other matches in mind.

Moreno almost managed to pull one back for the home side in the 83rd minute with a heroic leap, but he failed to find the target. This was never going to be anything but Barça’s day, and they’re back in the Champions League semi finals for the fourth season in a row.

Play BASS with Drop D Tuning

In the modern rock era, Drop D is fast becoming one of the most common tunings for the electric bass. The only difference between Drop D and standard tuning is that you are going to lower (drop) the 4th string from an E down to a D. Everything else will stay the same.

This lesson will assume that you already know how to read tablature, understand basic tuning, understand harmonics, and tuning with harmonics.

Getting into Drop D from standard tuning

Since the only note that is different from standard tuning is the 4th string, here is an easy way to get into Drop D tuning. Play your 2nd string open, which is a D. Then play the 12 fret harmonic on the 4th string (touch the string lightly right above the 12th fret bar). Tune that harmonic note down a whole step so that it sounds like the open 2nd string. When both notes are ringing at the same time, you will then hear them "crash" against each other when they are out of tune. The further those crashes are from each other, the closer you are to being in tune.

Sometimes bass players will tune the 4th string open to the 2nd string open, understanding that the 4th string will sound an octave lower. Try playing both notes at the same time and listen for the same "crashing" sound that you heard when using the 12th fret harmonic on the 4th string.

First tune the 4th string to a D using the MIDI note below.

When using the basic tuning method for standard tuning, you would play the 5th fret on the 4th string and tune the 3rd string open to that. In Drop D tuning, you are going to play the 7th fret on the 4th string, then tune the 3rd string open to that. From there, you will tune everything the same as standard tuning. You could also tune the rest of the strings using harmonics.
