They're not Sharks, they're Surfers!

When I was about five months here in the US, my husband wants to take me to many places as much as possible before I will find a job and will no longer have the opportunity to see many wonderful places without having to rush to see it because I have to go back to work.

We went to La Jolla, San Diego to visit a friend but since we arrived there an hour early, my husband took me to a nearby place that overlook the ocean. As soon I turn my head to see the ocean, I was shocked because I thought I saw many, many sharks. I immediately told my husband what I saw and he was laughing out loud. He told me that they're not sharks, they were surfers. But because they were too far away and their wetsuits were mostly black or dark blue that's why they look like sharks from a distance. I asked my husband why a surfer has to wear wetsuit, he told me to keep them warm while they're in the water waiting for the waves.

After that hilarious incident, we went to the small shops just a block away to look around and we may find something for ourselves or for our dear four-legged friend who was waiting for us at home. Guess what we ended up buying? A ball thrower for Bones. It was a fantastic day!

Cherries are one of my favorite fruits. I like it when it's still a little bit hard because it's crunchy. But this fruits come with a price. I am just glad that most of the time my husband will always grant my request when I asked him to buy me Cherries.

Cherry is small, fleshy round stone fruit that is typically bright or dark red in color. These fruits are rich in vitamins, nutrients and minerals. But actually that's not the reason why I love Cherries, I just love the taste.

Cuisinart Compact Deep Fryer

My husband surprised me last christmas this Cuisinart Compact Deep Fryer. I never thought that he would buy it for me because I've been telling him for more than a year now but he will always denied my request. He said it is not good for me to have especially I am prone to having acne.

I already used this deep fryer for three times now. It is really very convenient to have especially to a busy woman like me. I know it is not good to always eat fry foods not only because of my skin issues but it is very unhealthy. I will try my best to just used this deep fryer maybe once in every two weeks. Cross my fingers for that, lol.

Magna Cart Personal Hand Truck

My husband bought this cart as a christmas present to my father. He thinks that my father could use this cart when he wants to transport anything that is 150 pounds or lesser. He can use it when he works to move sacks of cement rather than carrying it himself which he did for many, many years. It extends to over 39 inches height and folds flat for easy storage. It is lightweight makes it perfect for traveling as well.

We just hope he will like it.

Rugs are an elegant decoration for any room in our house

It has been a while since we're looking for a rug for our recreation room. We still can't decide what color that will look the best in that room. Shopping for a rug was very stressful because we already did that for a couple of times and yet we still can't find the one that we like. We don't want to end up spending any amount of money like the rug that we bought almost a year ago for our living room and the quality was really poor. At first glance you won't be able to notice it but after few weeks of having it in our house, that's were we noticed how poorly it was made.

Many companies that sell their products online has a very competitive prices and good return policy, that is why many people like us who are not fond of going to a very crowded stores prefer to shop online rather than in-line. I find it very convenient to do the shopping in the comfort of my own home without having to beat the crowd.

Since holiday season is approaching. It would really be nice to give the rooms in our house a different look by simply replacing that very old rugs that we have to a nice wool rugs. When I first came here in the US and got married, there were two things that I asked from my husband, a vegetable garden and a dog. That is why it is really hard for me to choose who is cuter, a baby or a puppy? Everyone has their reason or reasons why a baby is cuter than a puppy or vice versa. TVee model 25 sound system

When I first moved into my husband's house he already had a complete surround sound system set up in our recreation room. He changed a few of the devices like purchasing blu-ray player. In fact now he is considering buying a TVee Model 25 sound system when we have enough savings to replace our surround sound speakers because it seems they are no longer functioning very well. This audio system is a sound bar speaker and wireless subwoofer with virtual surround sound.

I love watching movies and my husband, on the other hand, likes watching documentaries, sports and travel programs. We also have a new 55' flat screen TV and having this TVee model 25 sound system will definitely give us the best enjoyment and experience in watching TV. It will deliver clear dialogue for television, cinematic surround sound for movies and gaming. It will also enhance stereo for music which is an additional feature. Grilled Pork Tenderloin and Peaches

I got this recipe from our friend when we went to their house for a dinner. She told us that she got the recipe also in one of the magazines which I can't remember the name. I made this recipe for few times now and I really like it. In fact last christmas when we invited my brother-in-law and his girlfriend in our house, we served them with this grilled pork tenderloin and peaches.

Note: Read the entire recipe before making it

Grilled Pork Tenderloin and Peaches

Ingredients:

3 tbsp. Canola oil

2 tbsp. fresh rosemary - finely chopped

Coarse Black Pepper

1 pork tenderloin

Kosher salt

Peach Glaze

Rosemary sprigs for garnish

Whisk the oil, rosemary and pepper together. Add meat - let sit covered 1 to 8 hours in refrigerator. Heat grill to high. Remove pork from refrigerator 20 minutes prior to grilling. Salt liberally.

Grill on all sides until golden brown and slightly charred, about 2 minutes each side. Brush with peach glaze, continue grilling until temperature reaches 145°F (in center of meat).

Remove to cutting board. Tent with foil for ten minutes. Slice into 1/2 inch thick pieces. Place on platter with peaches, add glaze.

Note: I used a ziplock bag instead of a container to store the pork tenderloin with the marinade because it is easier for me to let the marinade be on the pork all the time. I just turned the bag upside down for several times.

Peaches

Ingredients:

1 cup red wine vinegar

¼ cup water

½ cup clover honey

Salt and fresh pepper

3 slightly under ripe peaches, halved, pitted, sliced (or if peaches are not in season, I used a jar of peaches in syrup I bought from Trader Joe's)

Bring vinegar, water, honey, salt and pepper to simmer over medium heat. Add peaches, cook, stir until slightly soft, about five minutes.

Remove peaches. Continue cooking the liquid until slightly reduced, about 5 minutes. Transfer half the glaze to a small bowl to use for basting.

Three days ago, the retail store where I work introduced a new way to improve the services we offer to our customers by using an iPad. Besides the regular computers we have in the store, designated employees have the opportunity to carry around the iPad in a certain period of time a day to help customers whether just for a price check or if they want to order a product in our online store. This is still an undergoing test but I think this is a pretty cool idea. If this test will work out, the company will provide the store more iPads in the near future. This only means, we have to take care of it not only from people who may try to steal it but also protecting it from getting scratch or broken. Thus, ipad cases and covers are a must have if you own one of these greatest invention we have in our time.

For almost ten years working in a retail store, I know that companies are doing their best to ensure great service to their customers even during this difficult times we have at the moment. I am just glad that the company where I work right now is doing great and we still trying to keep improving our services to assure that our customers will leave in the store happy and satisfied. Having an iPad or iPads in our store is I think will enhance our customer service and will make our job much easier too.

Biko (Sweet Rice Cake)

My husband and I went to the Filipino store last Wednesday. As usual, I was so excited and grabbed my favorite foods like instant noodles, junk foods, string beans, tocino, fish ball, and the most I am excited to try was the frozen Biko (sweet rice cake) which was sitting in our freezer for more than two days only until I steamed it this afternoon.

I was taking the chance to grab the frozen Biko because I don't have any idea if it tastes good or not. But I was surprised because it was definitely delicious. Next time when we go to the Filipino store, I will surely will buy at least two boxes of this frozen Biko.

My mom told me to go to giveadish.com for the master bedroom since we were in the middle of redoing our house. I couldn’t wait for it to be done and we were at the technology stage – my husband was looking into alarms and surround sound and I was just trying to keep this place from falling apart. Having work done on your house is no picnic and I feel like it’s been overrun with contractors and workers for like the last year of our lives. That’s probably because it has! But you know, there’s something to be said for a totally redone place just the way you like it and we knew we were in for a long haul back when we started renovating the place. I’m excited to get done so I can start decorating but you know, at the end of the day it’s going to look like any other home you’d see. My decorating sense isn’t as good as I like to think it is – and I certainly am too broke for a professional!

Degreaser

My husband did not notice that our car was licking out oil. The oil was on our driveway and it really bothers him. He tried to clean it with soapy water and a brush but after it dries the oil was still there. So we went to the store to buy a multi-purpose cleaner hoping that it will do a better job than soapy water. I was amazed how many choices we have. After reading the labels of different brands of cleaners we narrow our choices down to the degreasers, we finally decided which degreaser we think will do the job. We were satisfied with the result and even use the remaining degreaser to clean our stovetop after I fried my favorite chicken wings and fish. I am willing to try it on my clothes that have oil stains one of this day and I am willing also to pay the consequences if it will ruin my clothes, but I am hoping not.

Right now, we are on our second bottle using the degreaser. For a very affordable price, it was really a good buy. Sometimes, we just have not to be afraid to try products that are cheaper and not that well-known because in many instances these products could be the one you are looking for.

Green Beans

I can't exactly remember when we went to Armstrong Garden Center near where I live to buy flowers for our front yard and I decided to buy a green bean plant for one of our empty pot which was just setting in our backyard for more than a month.

Our recreation room

We are very fortunate to own a house. It is not very big but it is enough for me, my husband and our big dog, Bones. We have a small backyard and a recreation room with roofdeck which is separate from our main house. The recreation room is large enough to be very useful. Inside we have our new 55" flat screen TV with a complete surround sound system, a sofa with glass table, a pool table with complete accessories, a bathroom, an office area and a washer dryer. Our recreation room is spacious enough to hold a party to accomodate many people. What I also like about this room are the large photos taken by my husband that are hanging on the wall. When our guests come to this room they will always be mesmerized by my husband's work.

I am just glad that during the last party that we had, none of our guests seemed to notice our washer dryer that is just behind the light blue sliding doors which is adjacent to the bathroom. My husband was very creative because when he purchased our house more than ten years ago, he did a lot of renovation and one was to put sliding doors where our washer dryer is located. He built it by himself and I am really very impressed with my husbands sense of creativity and resourcefulness.

Although the major projects that we want for our house have already been accomplished, we still have some other chores that we need to do. We still have to clean our rooftop deck and garage, change the paint in the bathroom, plant flowers for the winter season and probably change the 6 pocket baskets of our pool table because all of them are ripped. Hopefully we will be able to accomplish these things before this year is over.

It's been a long time since I last participated in Mellow Yellow Monday. My entry for this monday is my niece, Aimee

Aimee is my first and only niece. She is very sweet, so curious and loves to wander around in our neighborhood there in the Philippines. She has a lot of friends and not to brag very popular probably because she is very pretty and a meztiza (half-Filipino and half-Icelander).

He prefers an electric razor

My husband was using a disposable razor when he shaves for more than 30 years. But more than two years ago I talked him into switching to an electric razor because it is much easier to shave, very easy to operate, convenient, less messy and it doesn't require a lot of preparation like using a shaving soap or a shaving cream. Although electric razors and replacement razors blades are more expensive than disposable razors in the short run, eventually you will get your moneys worth in due time. Besides, electric shavers are good to have for men who are always on the go like my husband.

Unlike disposable razors, electric shavers are usually dry shavers. The hair you want to shave should be dried so that the shaver will glide smoothly along your skin making the whiskers easy to cut. Although it is not necessary to use any pre shaving products when you use electric shavers, some men prefer to use a pre-shaving lotion that is specifically designed for electric shavers to let the whiskers stand straight up, making it faster to shave.

Most men will probably use an after shave balm, an after shave lotion or a moisturizer after they shave to smooth their skin. Just make sure that these products will not clog your pores. Always read the entire label before using the product and follow the instructions carefully.

Also, a very important reason why I want my husband to use an electric razor is that he has very sensitive skin. Some people may not like an electric razor and still prefer the traditional way of shaving. But according to my husband the electric shaver is the way to go because he says it is simply faster and he can still get a very close shave.

Covering the Plants

This post is supposed to be published few months ago. I did not realized that I forgot to make it live.

We usually covered a part of our plants with plastic wraps when we know that we will be having a very cold weather. We put most of our delicate plants that are in a pot inside our garage. We don't want these plants to die without even trying to rescue them. Plants are very expensive and by doing some extra work during colder weather we were able to save dollars because we only have to buy those plants and flowers that are usually planted in the ground and did not survive when the temperature drops. My tomato plant is still alive and has fruits although it is not looking good right now. Hopefully my tomato can make it until spring. I usually just cut it back and for some reason it grows again. It may not be as healthy as the first time I planted it but it still bear fruits.

I have always been someone who believes that it is our job to take care of the environment. I recycle everything that is possibly able to be recycled, and my wife and I do our best to be responsible with the resources that we use daily. I find it so aggravating that so many people do not share my sense of responsibility for the planet on which we live. This planet will not last if we continue to treat it poorly. Ingredients:

2 cups all purpose flour

2 cups bread flour

½ cup white sugar

5 tbsp butter, melted

1 tsp baking powder

1¼ cup fresh milk, warm

1 pouch rapid rise yeast

1 tsp salt

1 cup bread crumbs

1 piece raw egg

1 tbsp cooking oil

Cooking procedure:

1. Combine the yeast, sugar, and warm milk and stir until the yeast and sugar are fully disolved

2. In the mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients starting with the flour then the sugar, salt, and baking powder . Mix well by stirring

3. Add the egg, butter, cooking oil, and yeast-sugar-milk mixture in the mixing bowl with the dry ingredients then mix again until a dough is formed. Use your clean hands to effectively mix the ingredients.

4. In a flat surface, knead the dough until the texture becomes fine.

5. Mold the dough until shape becomes round then put back in the mixing bowl. Cover the mixing bowl with damp cloth and let the dough rise for at least 1 hour

6. Put the dough back to the flat surface and divide into 4 equal parts using a dough slicer

7. Roll each part until it forms a cylindrical shape

8. Slice the cylindrical dough diagonally (These slices will be the individual pieces of the pandesal)

9. Roll the sliced dough over the breadcrumbs and place in a baking tray with wax paper (makes sure to provide gaps between doughs as this will rise later on)

10. Leave the sliced dough with breadcrumbs in the tray for another 10 to 15 minutes to rise

11. Pre heat the oven at 375 degrees fahrenheit for 10 minutes

12. Put the tray with dough in the oven and bake for 15 minutes

13. Turn off the oven and remove the freshly baked pandesal.

14. Serve hot. Share and enjoy!

This is what I did differently in my second attempt to which I personally like the result better:

* 2 pouches of rapid rise yeast

* I used 1/2 cup powder milk and mix it with 1 1/4 cups warm water (I was out with regular milk)

* In the first cooking procedure it did not say how much sugar you have to put. I used only 1/4 cup and set aside the other 1/4 cup for the second cooking procedure.
