Cheap, paper-thin TV screens that can be used in newspapers and magazines have been unveiled by German electronics giant Siemens. (Kind of reminds you of Harry Potter!) One of the applications being suggested for this technology is retail packaging. Can you imagine a cereal box adorned with a moving picture of a rabbit chasing Fruit Loops? How about a can of Green Giant peas with the Giant on the label waving at you? How to assemble instructions for a childs toy in a movie format? The list can go on and on. Keep your eyes peeled for these labels and technology sometime in 2007. The world will never be the same once this technology hits the scene.

Light Transmitting Concrete

A wall made of LitraCon has the strength of traditional concrete - but thanks to an embedded array of optical glass fibers - enables a view of the outside world ( such as the silhouette of trees, houses and people) which are transmitted inside the building. A door that slids open only far enough to let an individual, animal or space alien enter a room. This would be great for walk in coolers and freezers. To think of it, I could really use one of these to replace my backdoor. My kids run in and out of my existing backdoor all day freeing all that expensive air-conditioned air into the great outdoors. My electric bill surely would be cut by 25 percent with one of these gizmos. Click on the link above to see a really neat video of this door in action.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://andthatsthewayitis.blogspot.com/2005/08/automatic-door-japan-style.html' title='Automatic Door... As all of you probably already know, when an aircraft breaks the sound barrier one can hear a large boom or what is referred to as a sonic boom. However, during certain weather conditions, a sonic boom cloud can appear which can readily be seen by the naked eye. A rare photograph here illustrates the point quite clearly.

Paris Hilton Reveals Her Engagement Ring

Link to more pictures

I couldn't resist posting this picture of Paris Hiltons engagement ring. What this means is - starting three years from now, if you live or work in the United States, you'll need a federally approved ID card to travel on an airplane, open a bank account, collect Social Security payments, or take advantage of nearly any government service. The federal ID card will more than likely replace the State drivers license possibly adding your finger and retinal prints to the face of the card. The application process will include making digital copies of your birth certificate and Social Security card which will be verified and stored permanently in a national data base. I'm not sure what to think about this - needing a Federal ID card to have a bank account? Lots of questions here.

Dog Feeds Tiger Cubs

Dog feeds tiger cubs - Link

A brave dog has offered her services to save two little tiger cubs from starving to death at a Zoo in East China.
