bloodmilk for auxiliary magazine

auxiliary magazine released an interview in their newest issue with jl schnabel of bloodmilk and featuring my photos from our recent show in philadelphia's gallery 309, the conjurer. the photos feature some of the styled display cases from the show as well as some of bloodmilk's personal jewelry modeled on lovely tina nguyen.

i was looking through the selby's photographs of pamela love and jordan sullivan's home and was struck by how similar the styles in our homes were. by comparison, pamela and jordan's home is much further along then ours; it looks like i'd imagine our house to look like if we weren't renting.

lying on the beach in december was amazing! i enjoyed a week of frozen drinks, boutique and consignment shopping, avocados every day, and sand beneath my feet. i was so excited to wear the youreyeslie shorts i just got at the latest URBN sample sale - thought i'd have to wait until summer to finally try them on! i also picked up and shopped through a ton of beautiful finds in naples - handkerchief tops and dresses, leopard loafers, pearl and abalone jewelry, hand dyed scarves, and peruvian blanket flats. stepping off the plane in philly where the weather was fifty degrees cooler was a real bummer - i'm counting down the days until my next getaway!

la-based company lumi uses light sensitive dyes to print. you could probably make amazing cmyk images using similar layers as you would when printing in gum bichromate.

i'm counting down the days (and weeks and months) until i get to go on vacation. even though it seems like a lifetime away, i'm still can't help but window shop for swimwear. these graphic swimsuits from black milk clothing are unbelievably awesome. i think i'm just going to buy a few and be the craziest girl at the resort.

i love these nebulae layers on jaime martinez's photos. the galaxy textures are definitely nothing new, but the simplicity in the portraits meshed with them makes them feel fresh and inspiring.

the styling of color, floral, animal, and 70s prints is gutsy in and of itself. i especially love the more graphic backgrounds - they make the model look like she just stepped into a klimt painting.

i'm flying down to florida to enjoy a holiday in the sun. i'm unbelievably excited to get another taste of summer. looking forward to breakfasting in the lanai and vintage shopping all week.

swim 2012 from wildfox couture featuring anja konstantinova, who i recently found out stands at a mere 5'4" (my height as well). for all of us short-stacks out there: you get 'em, girl.

the palomino pony graphic one piece is currently available at urban outfitters for $136. the rest of the line will be available through wildfox later this month.

i'm really starting to love the duality of graphic swimwear. just pull on a pair of denim shorts or highwaisted pants and the suit turns into a form fitting top. black milk also has some really great graphic swimsuits; they have quite a lot more than wildfox couture, which seems to be just trying out the style.

i've always admired alison scarpulla's work - her dark and dreamy images illustrate such lovely visions. i was so happy to see her collaboration with audrey cantwell of ovate (the montreal-based clothing line that we used with the bloodmilk lookbook last august).

while we were in the pre-production of the bloodmilk shoot, i tried on and fell in love with the "curse of busla dress" in taupe silk. finished with a raw hem and featuring rune script from an ancient norse poem, i felt so very delicate wrapped in its length.

printed on black, white or grey french paper, the print measures 19 x 25. including a beautifully nuanced shimmer effect via fine mica powder, the prints appear luminous and intriguing in their well balanced design of hand drawn elements via Paul Romano, an image captured from the lookbook via Christina Brown and text directly lifted from the lookbook.

these are limited 30 in black and 10 each in white and grey and are ready to ship.

tomorrow! first friday in philly at 309 gallery in olde city located at 309 cherry street, i will be showing large scale images from the lookbook, 'the conjurer', alongside curated cabinets of bloodmilk by jl schnabel, with personal objects from her collection and objects from paul romano's & jeremy hush's home and studios.

the opening this friday is from 6-9. the show is open until january 15th of the new year.

bloodmilk: the conjurer will open at gallery 309 on december 2nd 6pm-10pm and will feature original photographs by yours truly from bloodmilk's 11:11:11 lookbook and displays of jl schnabel's most personal pieces. the show is curated by renowned artist and gallery owner paul romano.

gallery 309 is located at 309 cherry street philadelphia, pa 19106 and is two blocks away from the 2nd street stop on the market/frankford el.

i've always loved elastic bandage and bodycages - they remind me so much of milla jovovich in the fifth element. chromat began as an extension of design becca mccharen's background in architectural design - this upcoming season was inspired by gothic architecture and features items like the hood cage, pentagram harness and face cage, and trinity suit. via chromat.

radlands weekend freakout

last weekend we drove out to harleysville, pa for a combination party weekend/lookbook photoshoot for radlands, a graphic label founded by guys whose philosophy on tees is that "when the t-shirt wears down to holes and you can’t recount where those blood stains came from, you’ll still put it on for another day of abuse, another day of drifting and droning, of cruising and stoning". and i know they mean it.

i'm also involved in a group show curated by my dear friend jl schnabel of bloodmilk - "spirit board", an exhibition at loved to death's articulated gallery in san francisco, that is focusing around the dark tales of the oujia board and featuring plenty of friends and artists that i admire, including jeremy hush, jason goldberg, margaux kent, paul romano, buddy nestor, and dave miller weeks.

the show is on november 5th from 8pm-11pm at articulated gallery (in loved to death) 1681 haight st, san francisco, ca.

style leader and philadelphia native joan shepp, local designer bela shehu of NINO brand collection, and local artist denise fike teamed up for the event "dressed up", where bela styled a model in her own designs and others from joan shepp and displayed the styles in joan shepp's walnut street window while denise created figure paintings of each look. "getting dressed" was, without a doubt, the most exciting and interesting of all the events i was lucky to be involved with - there was a crowd around the storefront the entire day!

arcadia boutique/bus stop shoes x designphiladelphia

local philadelphia boutiques arcadia (northern liberties and rittenhouse locations) and bus stop shoes (queens village) combined forces to create a lookbook featuring some of their best customers as models. the faces of philly launch party was held at arcadia boutique in northern liberties where the lookbook was given away free with purchase or for $5. it was really great to see some dedicated customers celebrating local fashion.

but what i really couldn't believe that i live just a few blocks away and had never been inside until the other night! arcadia has such a great collection of pendleton and jeffrey campbell that i nearly pinched myself for not believing such a great little boutique could exist all the way in northeast philly.
