The 61-team field was announced on Monday morning with the Ravens drawing No. 20 Carthage (34-8) in the first round of the Illinois Wesleyan Regional at 2 p.m. (CST). Anderson (30-10) will be the No. 6 seed after clinching the automatic bid on Saturday by winning the HCAC post-season tournament championship.

“We’re excited to be a part of the NCAA national tournament for the second consecutive season,” said AU coach Tony Holloway. “We have a lot of players who played in the regional last year and we hope that experience will help us in this year’s tournament.”

Illinois Wesleyan (36-6) will be the top seed in the region and is joined by No. 7 Benedictine (33-9), No. 8 St. Norbert (17-18), No. 5 Fontbonne (27-10), No. 4 Wisc.-Eau Claire (32-12) and defending national champion No. 2 Linfield (38-5).

The top-seeded Ravens will play either Manchester or Bluffton (11 a.m., Saturday) in the championship game at 1 p.m. All games in the tournament will be carried on Stretch Internet and Live Stats from Anderson. Complete tournament results and schedule are at the bottom of story.

“It was a good start, but our only goal is to win the tournament championship and advance to the national tournament,” said AU coach Tony Holloway. “We still need one more victory and both Bluffton and Manchester are good teams that have played us tough this season. It won’t be an easy game and we will have to play well to win.”

Against Manchester, Monica Crowe tossed a one-hitter to improve to 17-2 overall on the season. The senior didn’t allow a run while striking out seven with two walks.

Natalie Moorhouse led the Raven offense with a grand slam and Yardley Collett and Lauren Smith added RBI singles.

Against Bluffton, Collett had two hits and all four of the Raven RBI in the game, including a two-run, game-winning home run in the fifth inning.

“Yardley has been swinging the bat extremely well the last several games,” said Holloway of Collett, who has seven home runs this season. “Anytime she is at the plate, she has the potential to hit the ball out of the park.”

Devin Moorman won her 10th straight game, allowing six hits and two earned runs while striking out eight with three walks.

“Devin hasn’t lost a game in her last 11 starts and her ERA is under 2.00 since we got back from Florida,” said Holloway. “Both of our pitchers threw well today and have been very consistent all season in keeping us in every game.”

Tournament Schedule

Friday, May 4

Game 1 – No. 2 Bluffton 3, No. 3 Transylvania 2

The Anderson University softball team swept at Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader against Franklin College on Saturday at Raven Field on Senior Day. The Ravens won the first game 3-2 and the second contest 8-2.

The victory was the 13th in a row for the Ravens at home and the 14th straight in HCAC play this season without a defeat. AU finishes the regular season a perfect 10-0 at home and has won 19 of its last 20 home contests over the last two years.

The Ravens have also won 18 of their last 20 games this season and have already clinched the HCAC regular season championship and home-field advantage for the post-season tournament.

“It’s important to win at home and we feel we have done a good job of protecting our home-field over the last two years,” said AU coach Tony Holloway. “But today was about Senior Day and our four seniors that have done so much for our program these last four years.”

The seniors all had a big hand in the sweep on Saturday. In the first game, senior Monica Crowe improved to 15-2 overall and 7-0 in the HCAC on the mound, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out three.

“Monica holds eight school records and has been the ace of our staff for the last three years,” said Holloway. “We couldn’t ask for any more from her and we feel anytime she takes the mound, we are going to win the game.”

Senior Kelly Rusterholz drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning of the first game with a double and finished with a pair of two-baggers in the contest. She added another RBI double in the first game.

“Kelly has persevered through a lot of injuries in her four years, but they couldn’t replace her heart,” said Holloway. “She has really bought into the program and been a leader for us these last few years.”

In the second game, seniors Megan Kruse and Stephanie Atkins both had home runs and accounted for the last five RBI of the second game. Kruse had a three-run homer in the fourth inning and Atkins added a two-run blast in the fifth frame.

“Those two kids have been linchpins for us at first base and catcher for the last four years,” said Holloway.

Devin Moorman won her eighth straight decision on the mound in the second contest, improving to 8-4 overall and 7-0 in the HCAC. The junior allowed four hits and two runs while striking out a career-high nine Grizzlies.

Sophomore Katie Lee and junors Natalie Moorhouse and Katy Ogden led the offense with two hits each.

AU (25-10, 14-0 HCAC) travels to Mt. St. Joseph next Saturday for the regular season finale at 1 p.m. AU will host the HCAC post-season tournament starting on May 4.

The Ravens won both games by a 2-1 score.

AU improved to 23-10 overall and 12-0 in the HCAC, clinching the regular season title and home field advantage in the post-season tournament on May 4-5.

“We have accomplished our first goal that we set this season and that was to win the regular season championship,” said AU coach Tony Holloway. “Now we need to finish the conference season strong and get ready to defend our tournament title and reach that second goal of advancing to the NCAA National Tournament again.”

In the first game, Monica Crowe earned the victory on the mound, improving to 14-2 overall and 6-0 in the HCAC. The senior allowed eight hits and one run while striking out nine in the complete game performance.

Katie Lee led the Raven offense with a home run (Pictured left) and Natalie Moorhouse drove in the game-winning run with a RBI double in the sixth inning to score Amy Wuestefeld, who had also doubled earlier in the frame.

In the second game, Devin Moorman won her seventh straight decision to improve to 7-4 overall and 6-0 in the HCAC. The junior allowed six hits and one run while striking out one in the complete game performance.

Nichole Frazier drove in the winning run in the seventh inning with a single, scoring Megan Ream, who had reached base earlier in the inning.

Stephanie Atkins had a double and a run scored and Moorhouse added another double.

AU hosts Franklin on Saturday for Senior Day at 1 p.m.
