Growing Family

The clients featured in today’s blog have been friends of Andie’s family since long before her last name was Hamilton. They came in with their first sweet girl a couple of years ago.

We watched her grow from a sweet baby into a fun little person in that first year.

And then she became a big sister! We recently finished her little sister’s newborn shoot. So precious!

Two wonderful girls make a great addition to Andie’s long-time family friends. Congratulations!

We’ve had some clients who have been coming to Andie Hamilton Photography since the very beginning. As we look through our archives, we can almost watch their children grow up as we flip through the images Andie’s captured over the years. We think it’s fun to see how they have grown, and thought you would too. So here is the first installment in a new series on the blog. We are featuring the Clark family. The first session we did was back in 2006 and there were just two kiddos, but soon after they had three and we have had a great time coming up with creative holiday cards for them every year!

This first session took place at our original Greenville Avenue studio:

This shoot was really fun, taken on location at Uncommon Market. I love the editorial feel of these!

It’s fascinating to watch the children as they grow up in photographs and we feel so fortunate to be able to document all those stages. In their most recent shoot, the oldest just had braces put on and it really brings home how much they’ve grown!

Arboretum at a Glance, Part I

For two weeks in March, we battled the crowds at the Dallas Arboretum to get the once-a-year shots afforded only during the Dallas Blooms season. Everyone was so friendly and every session went amazingly well. The response was overwhelming and the sessions filled up within hours of the announcement; we even had to add an extra day! We certainly appreciate our clients and their support and enthusiasm.

So our Mommy and Me event is Friday May 11th. A twenty minute session with you and your little ones is a great way to celebrate being a mom. Tell your husband it’s what you want for Mother’s Day. Or purchase a print to surprise him for Father’s Day! Sessions are $100 and approximately 20 minutes long. They will be held in our natural light white room at the studio.

February and March

So I thought I would do a little post on what we have been up to the past couple of months. We have kept very busy redecorating and reorganizing the studio in between our sessions! We can’t wait for you to come by and see what we’ve done with the place.

The following are a little sampling of some of the sessions over the past few weeks. This does not include all of the Arboretum sessions we did, because they deserve their own post. But here are a few of the babies and children that we have seen lately:

Any photographer will tell you that photographing their own children is the hardest thing to do. Compound that with adding my nieces in as well and, well, let’s just say I don’t shoot the three of them together all that often. But the girls sadly moved to Laredo last week so we had to do a session before they left. We brought the kids out to the Dallas Arboretum, bought them some cute clothes, and hoped for the best. To my surprise this has got to be one of my favorite sessions we have ever done with the three of them! So I am sharing a ton of images. Sorry their are so many, but a proud mama has to show off, right?

Mini Me Mini-Sessions

Carrie Barnard over at Mini Me and Baby Bliss had Andie come in for her semi-annual fashion party, Project Mini Me. Andie’s assistant Catherine, a fashionista with an amazing eye, had a blast going through the clothing racks and accessories to put together some spectacular outfits for Andie to photograph some of Carrie’s best customers. We really like the results!

Outtakes, Part 9

Today’s featured mom is frequently at the studio so we’ve had the pleasure of getting to know her family as it has expanded over the years. After three children, she just knew her fourth would be another girl but she received a happy surprise when the little fellow was born!

I love watching my children together, interacting with each other, and the last time my kids made me laugh was watching them play Dance Moves on the wii. It’s hilarious watching the little ones try to keep up with their big sisters.

I realize I have turned into my mother too often, but especially when I catch myself spitting on a napkin and wiping a child’s face. I’m like, “Really, did I just do that?”

I think what surprised me the most about parenting was how vulnerable you feel. It’s truly like having a part of your heart, outside of your body, walking around in the world.

The gadget that saves me the most time? That’s easy–the sliding doors on my mini! Oh, and the thing that cuts the crusts off their sandwiches…

We have a lot of family friendly places in Dallas we enjoy, but one of our very favorites is the park at Scottish Rite Hospital. It’s good for a range of ages, and the ground is padded.

One of our favorite traditions is spending the night at the Adolphus Hotel the first Friday in December, then getting up early and going to the parade the next morning. We have done it every year since 2003.

If I had a day to myself…I would sleep in, finish my own sentences, and read.

My session went great as always. We got really great images and it was PAINLESS! I love watching Andie with my kids–she’s really very calm and natural with them, and this brings my anxiety level WAY down. Picture days used to be so stressful, but once I get there, and they are all dressed and ready, I just relax and let her work her magic.

I love all the images we have gotten with Andie over the years, and what makes them so special for me is that she has an uncanny ability to capture their personalities at that stage, so I am filled with memories of that time when I look back at the images.

I don’t really have any “advice” but I’m always happy that I go simple on the clothes–lots of solids, simple styles and light colors, so my kids are the focus.

Studio Valentine

Shortly after Valentine’s Day we had a special visitor who we consider our Valentine’s gift. This adorable girl was born on Valentine’s Day and Andie and Catherine had a fabulous shoot with her that we can’t wait to share. She was so new with her little umbilical cord still on her belly!

We loved our Valentine’s Day present and can’t wait to see her again!
