Notre Dame memorial service for Air France victims - Update

Paris - An investigation into the cause of the Air France disaster was formally opened in France Wednesday, as the country began a period of national mourning with a service for the dead in Notre Dame Cathedral. President Nicolas Sarkozy and other government members will attend the memorial service in Paris later Wednesday at the cathedral.

Meanwhile an investigation was formally opened into the crash, after fragments found in the Atlantic Ocean were confirmed as debris from the Airbus A330-200 aircraft, which was carrying 228 people.

The investigation into the world's worst commercial air disaster since 2001 was formally opened just hours after Brazilian Defence Minister Nelson Jobim said there was "no doubt" that the debris discovered belonged to the Air France flight that vanished early Monday on a flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris.

The fragments - metal pieces and wires, apparently part of the structure of the missing plane, and a passenger seat - were found by Brazilian army planes late Tuesday some 640 kilometres off the island of Fernando de Noronha.

Two investigators from the French Office of Investigations and Analysis (BEA) were already in Brazil when the debris was found. The BEA is to head the enquiry in colloboration with its counterpart Brazilian agency CENIPA.

Early Wednesday, the French military said in a statement that "there could be no doubt" that the debris belonged to the missing airliner, even if formal identification remained to be carried out.

Captain Christophe Prazuck, of the French army chief of staff, said that Wednesday would be "a day of transition" in the search for the aircraft.
"We will move from an air operation covering a large zone to a naval operation over a restricted zone," he was quoted as saying by the online edition of the daily Le Figaro.

The merchant ships and navy vessels in the area will gather the debris floating on the surface before submarines are deployed in the coming weeks to search for the wreckage itself, he said.

In addition an Awacs surveillance plane will carry out a "cartography" of the debris in an attempt to determine the precise place where the aircraft crashed into the sea, to enable the eventual recovery of the plane's black box flight data recorders, Prazuck said.

With the site of the crash now established, attention has turned to commemorating the victims.

As well as the Paris memorial service, late Tuesday, the Brazilian government declared three days of mourning for the crash victims.

There were 72 French nationals, 60 Brazilians and 26 Germans among the 228 people on the plane.

Goldbase.be is a Facebook Scam: DO NOT Visit [WARNING]
It seems there’s no end to the Facebook spam and phishing attacks. Today my Facebook inbox shows there’s another attack underway that’s suckering even some of the most tech savvy users: I’m receiving Facebook mails with links to “.be” sites which are obviously nefarious. The subject line of the mails is “Look at This”.

If you receive such a mail, DO NOT click links to the following sites:

goldbase.be
greenbuddy.be
silvertag.be
picoband.be

As we saw with Twitter’s Mikeyy attacks, these scams are particularly effective at weekends because the websites have less staff on hand to deal with them.

What To Do
If you receive one of these Facebook ( ) mails, simply delete it - one of your friends is infected but not you. If you find, however, that your account is sending the mails:
1. As a precaution, go to your browser settings and clear your cookies.
2. Change your Facebook password
3. Make sure your antivirus software is up to date and run a full system scan

Lately, Facebook Worm Malware phishing attacks virus continues. After Koobface, fbstarter.com, FBAction.net. Facebook 151.im, ponbon.im, and now again areps.at virus attacks, bests.at, check kirgo.at, nutpic.at, brunga.at and continue to trick users facebook.

It seems that did not stop phishers to trick users facebook. I wish facebook users take more care to the virus that always lurk their account.

One way to make sure that it's the real Facebook site you're logging in to? Simply put in a made up e-mail and password in the login page. The phishing sites have been putting out a "502 Bad Gateway" error, while the real Facebook would ask you to try again. Note that this is not a 100% fool proof method (check the address bar!), but few phishers, particularly for a scheme like this, are likely to go through the trouble of a complicated input verification scheme, said Softsailor.com

Looks like Facebook has another phishing scam to deal with. Today’s is a message that appears to be appearing in users’ inboxes with the prompt to “Check areps.at.” Similar to last week’s 151.im phishing scheme the domain is not automatically hyperlinked in Facebook, but email clients, like Gmail or Yahoo, will auto-link it. Don’t click on that link and don’t copy and paste it into your browser.

Apparently the link will lead you to a Facebook log-in page. If you login to the site, the site will steal your email and password and will send all of your friends the same message. Twitter reveals that the same has been taking place all morning but I just received a Facebook message from a friend who was sucked into the scam a half hour ago.

Pilot's company faced $533,564 federal judgment

A company owned by a pilot who intentionally abandoned his plane Sunday over Alabama was recently ordered by a federal court in Maryland to pay a $533,564 to OM Financial Life Insurance Company.

The default judgment against Marcus Schrenker's Heritage Wealth Management Inc. was issued on Friday. According to the Indiana Secretary of State's office, Schrenker is president of the company, which is based in Indianapolis.

In May of 2007, Baltimore-based OM Financial Life Insurance Company filed suit against Schrenker and his Heritage Wealth Management company claiming "unjust enrichment." The company claimed the defendants repeatedly failed to pay back "unearned" commissions they received relating to OM Financial products. The defendants sold insurance and/or annuity plans for OM Financial.

"Defendants have refused to return, and did not return, the $433,314 in commissions paid to them by OM Financial arising out of products that were surrendered, lapsed, reversed and/or free-looked within the chargeback period," an amended claim reads.

The judge also ordered the company to pay $33,852 in interest and attorneys' fees of $66,397.
Schrenker's small plane crashed in the Florida Panhandle Sunday night. He had reported turbulence, and said his windshield was blown out. Authorities said he exited the plane as it flew over Shelby County on Sunday night.

Schrenker, 38, was last seen early this morning when he spoke to Childersburg police at a store there and said he had been in a canoeing accident with some friends. He was wet from the knees down, and had no other injuries, according to a statement released by Wendell Hall, the sheriff of Santa Rosa County, Fla., where Schrenker's plane crashed.

Authorities said he was identified by the Childersburg officer as Schrenker through his driver's license and also had some goggles that looked like they were made for "flying," Hall said.
