The Dead Cities of Syria

Syria continues to be in the news as its government persists in its use of violence to crack down on protests inspired by the Arab Spring. It is the latest of many upheavals the country has been through since its formation as a state. In the northwest of the country are reminders of past turmoil and upheaval. Over 700 abandoned settlements bear the collective name The Dead Cities of Syria.

Crazy Fruits Animation

Today we want ot show cool fruit animation created by designer from Ukraine Alexander Zapadenko. His series “Crazy fruits” cosists of several animated fruits. “At first glance, it is quite common fruits. Their distinctive feature is that they do not want to be eaten. They will plead you watch you with sad eyes, but do not believe them.” Animation is quite simple – each gif image has only 13 frames but looks great. Have fun!

Germany based artist Walter Mason has an affinity for pulling things apart and then putting them back in to place – but in a subtly changed way. Chunks of ice can become upended, forming a chilly henge, elm leaves are stitched together then allowed to float away on the stream. Beech leaves, torn asunder, find a new home on a lily leaf. Yet the result is something quite extraordinary – intriguing but temporary, organic art which is recorded for posterity only on camera. Dubbed land art, you can see more examples of Mason’s ingenious art at his Flickr photostream and on his tumblr page.

With more than 30 years of practice, Guy’s work has been seen and heard in galleries and theaters around the world. And when he’s not involved in his artistic pursuits, he finds time to pursue an investigation in the field of anthropology.
Below you will find a collection of his incredible book carving work from his series’ titled The Great Wall and Biblios. In these series, Guy carves magnificent landscapes into relevant volumes of work, some pieces using well over ten books. Enjoy!
