Very early in the morning, I often walk to the market in Zihuatanejo. It is bustling with activity as the local people walk from store to store filling their brightly-colored bags with fresh fruits, vegetables, cheeses and tortillas. Many towns in Mexico are arranged so their residents can live without a car to take them to their markets, banks and hospitals. And there are small buses for those who are not able to walk. This painting is about all that, and it is about the long shadows created by the morning sunlight.

El Paseo del Pescador is a corridor that runs along Playa Principal, the municipal beach in Zihuatanejo’s bay. Along the paseo are shops, restaurants and the fish market. The town’s fishermen return here at dawn from a night of fishing to sell their fresh catch to the locals.
