I was very lucky to attend a retreat on Medicine Buddha practice that took place here in Russia about 100 kilometers from Moscow where I live at the moment. It was a very inspiring event leaded by Gyetrul Jigme Rinpoche – a great person and a wonderful teacher.

One part of the practice includes visualization of Medicine Buddha. Within this quick painting I was trying to share the joy of seeing a deity with a body of light and healing energy emerging from him. I wish you all feel the love I’ve put into this image and I hope it might help you feel better somehow.

It’s been a while since I’ve started this psychedelic art and design blog – in fact more than a year. I’ve been posting lots of inspiration and free content during this period. What I always want to add to this blog was a psychedelic art shop where people could find trance clothes, psychedelic posters and different organic objects that will make their reality more vivid, intense and magic.

I know there is a button “Shop” up there but unfortunately it’s not a real shop – just links to my Redbubble portfolio.

As you might already know I’ve been traveling for the last 5 month and right now I’m in Northern Thailand far away from my home in Moscow (Russia). I’ve been surrounded by beautiful Nature most of time while me and my girlfriend went to Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and Thailand again. I knew that it’s not going to last forever and by April 17th we’ll be back to Moscow, which is not the most eco-friendly and inspiring place to live in.

I know many people have the same problems. So I was thinking of how I can make living in concrete jungle more green and psychedelic at the same time. I came up with lots of product ideas that can serve this cause. Some of them were self-invented and some were inspired by other peoples art and design. Take a look at my Pinterest profile to take a look at some concepts I’ve found on the web. Here is a short list of product categories for my psychedelic shop:

• Clothes
• Accessories
• Lights
• Bio-spheres
• Meditation helpers
• Green walls

When I come back home in late April I’m going to start right away creating different objects. Some of them are for decorating your home (Bio-spheres, Green walls, Light) and some are for putting on (Clothes) or for active usage (Meditation helpers and Accessories). I think it’ll take me about a month to create several products and set up the shop’s web-site.

Speaking of a web-site it’s going to be in two languages – English and Russian. Most of the products will be available for sale worldwide, but the ones that contain living plants will be sold in Moscow only. Anyway I’ll be posting tutorials on most of the artworks and objects I create for the shop.

First I wanted to make the album cover artwork very bright – almost white like it should be in winter in Siberia (Psyberia refers to this part of Russia), but we were not sure it could be printed. So here is more contrast but still winter version.

There is a personal Fungus Funk’s album coming up. It’s called Kremlin Gremlin. I’ll post its artwork once the album is released.

Step 1

I always start with a sketch – digital or analog. The name of the party is “DNA Mutation”. This is why I decided to use a human face as a central object. I’ve made it of different objects to make it “mutated” from a regular human. There core objects are snakes and DNA molecules. Snakes and dragons symbolize wisdom in Asian cultures and this is I guess DNA mutation is about – not 5 legs or a crocodile jaw!

Step 2

First I’ve made a burning cobra using regular round brush. Then I’ve added a flame-like colorful background on a separate layer. I was using one of the brushes from “Good brush” set. These shapes formed a cheek

Step 3

Next was a small pyramid for the eyebrow.

Step 4

And a turtle for the eyelid. Turtle and pyramid both symbolize knowledge, wisdom and something solid. You know these stories about turtle holding the world…)

Step 5

Then it was the time to add some DNA molecules and “planets”.

Step 6

You know, I’m still in Thailand – there are dragons all around. I mean the the ones in the Buddhist temples designs and lots of lizards. So I wanted to add a dragon to my design. It was made with 3 brushes – one for the coloring (same as the one I used for the background) and two others for texturing – sorry I don’t remember which ones.

Step 7

This is an easy step. I just reflected the left part of the image and deleted the unwanted parts of the dragon’s tales, so the twist like DNA molecule.

Step 8

Then I’ve added the nose, lips and ears to the face and added more details to dragons.

Step 9

This was kind of speed painting to create a landscape-body for the head.

Step 10

Here you can see the further background with stupa-like buildings and DNA molecules tornados.

Step 11

Added some stars of different colors.

Step 12

Next thing is adding the text. I use Akashi font for all Earthstar Gatherings flyers. It’s sort of branding thing.

Step 13

Then I’ve added some DNA molecules to connect the artwork with the text.

Step 14

Finally I’ve made these abstract cloud-like background elements to make to whole composition look more solid.
